Was staying at an Airbnb down the street which originally was built and owned by the same person who built the British Hotel. So I just wanted to go down and try out the food. I had some friends join along and we were satisfied and happy with all the meals. Staff were friendly and would highly recommend for a night out.

Adelaide is full of swanky eateries and craft brewery pubs but I was in the mood for an old fashioned nosh and found The British on Google Maps not far from where I was staying and working and ended up stopping by for a feed and a pint 3 nights in a row. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere was (spoiler alert 🤣) typical of any English pub in the Mother Land. The bangers and mash or silverside were easily on top of my list of faves but there were heaps of modern dishes as well. Got hooked on the Bridge Road stout which was perfect for the chilly Adelaide evenings and the price for a feed and a couple of pints was extremely reasonable. Thanks Team British, see you again soon.

My partner and I came here for our anniversary. We ordered caesar salad, beef scotch fillet and beef sirloin served with broccolini, chat potatoes. Daine sauce was excellent for steaks. My partner really enjoyed his steak as it was perfectly cooked the way he liked. However, my steak was a bit over cooked in that I was asking for medium, but it tasted like medium well. Otherwise, the atmosphere was great as well as service. Waiter and waitress were attentive.

I went to the British Hotel on 16/10/2021. I had to wait over an hour for my food order. The plate of Salt and Pepper Squid I received was greasy, oily, over cooked and unpalatable. I certainly won't return. There are so many other fantastic hotels in North Adelaide to choose from.

Great place, good environment, great beers and nice staff ☺️ 🤙🍻🥂. Just few minutes away from the center and very close to Melbourne street, you can drink inside or outside, both are really nice and very cool. The food is amazing, specially the schnitzel, good options and also have vegetarian meals 🍄 🥔 🍔. Totally recomended 😊 👌.

We had an okay dining experience at the British Hotel. Slow serving but it may have been a once off. Sides with the steak incorrect as well as the level of cooking for the meat. Nevertheless, still a good meal

This is by far my favourite pub in Australia. I travel a lot for work and frequent many many many pubs and this is the absolute best place to eat, drink, laugh and get super funky toasted. I've taken a lot of people here and one time a guest said "this isn't the best pub in Australia" I replied "I never said that. I said it wasy favourite pub in Australia" they never got invited back.

Food and service were good. They had a good range of drinks. The atmosphere was loud and the tables were very close together and difficult to move between. Theres a lot of uneven flooring towards the back. Would be a real nightmare if you have mobility issues.

The British is a good pub, nice old school pub atmosphere with lovey food , which includes some nice old school dishes, not the Modern Aussie pub rubbish bucket food you get everywhere else.. Great job by the kitchen staff.. I highly recommend this Pub for a Pint or a Meal..Well done team

This hidden gem is an amazing one You instantly feel like you were teleported to a country pub in Britain with beautiful cozy yet roomy architecture and beautiful lighting you feel right at home you first walk in to the front bar greeted with a warm friendly welcome and the customers are just as friendly with a happy smile through to the restaurant the atmosphere is on another level with beautiful staff and good English hardy meals which are also delicious and don’t cost an arm and a leg most expensive meal being only 40 Kids eat free mon and tues and other specials throughout the week I had a beautiful winter soup which was like grandmas homemade chicken veg soup Kids meals were large and fresh huge wine list for the wine lovers and of course a good stout if your in North Adelaide put this amazing hotel on your bucket list you won’t be disappointed

Great place to go for a meal and a drink. We were there for a birthday celebration and had a fantastic time. The food was good but it was the service and staff that made our visit. Wonderful, friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend.

One of the best Chicken Parmy's I have had. Decided to return and have the beef Parmy this time. Wasn't disappointed.

The staff are great. The food is good standard Adelaide pub food. We went on a quiet Easter Monday night, so it would be difficult to grade the atmosphere on a normal night. It's a beautiful looking pub, though that was comfortable and accommodating.

We last visited the British over 40 years ago when it was the best Adelaide pub for cooking your own meal in their back garden BBQ. Although the BBQ is gone the food and service are still great!! The Beef & Mushroom pie is absolutely marvellous!!! Full of beef chunks and yummy gravy! One of the best pies I’ve had!! Wonderful place for dinner!!!

Been here many times. The atmosphere and service are fantastic. Nice, casual environment which makes you feel very welcome. The food can be pretty hit and miss, but generally better than average. Every flavour of the chicken wings tastes exactly the same, with no spice, which is disappointing. Great for dietary restrictions though.

The British Hotel hosted my son’s 18th birthday, the staff, service and food was outstanding! Many of our guests had never been to this hotel before and were very impressed. Thank you for making the occasion extra special! We look forward to dining there again!

I had the kangaroo. I love trying exotic foods in my adventure(s). The dish was lovely. Appealing visional, and wonderful flavors. Service was very attentive. I highly suggest exploring outside one's comfort zone in trying unique foods...

Waited 1.5 hours for meal to arrive then the steak was cold and had to send back and wait for another one. Then they forgot one of the meals completely so had to wait 20 minutes for that to arrive. Food was ok but nothing special.ordered another beer and waited but didn't arrive and when asked again it had been delivered to another table. Then ordered two large wines which they then tried to charge 21 dollars a glass for. Will never return again and definately do not recommend.

What a great hidden gem of a pub. Atmosphere is brilliant. Food was good, not excellent so 4 stars. The cheese and pumkin aranchini balls for starters was the highlight. Very good sugo. However the Angus Beef Scotch fillet steak and the Beef Cheeks dish coupled with Stone and Wood Pacific Ale was ordered also. Steak was over done and dry as ordered Med-Rare and the Beef Cheeks had a lot of gelatin not dissolved in the sauce. The waitress in the dining room was so attentive, smiling and checking on our meals and us, so was a great asset to this hotel so 5 stars regained.

Dinner tonight at the British. Amazing, amazing service. Food wonderful. Mentioned Blue Swimmer Crab Spaghetti had a little too much garlic for my taste, even though it was very tasteful. Management and Staff couldn't do enough for our table. Blew my mind. I have NEVER encountered such awesome personal service. I definitely recommend a visit. Thanks for a great night

We were looking for a pub that did a good steak. The steaks were so tender and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and quick. The place has a warm, comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. We were very happy.

The food was really good - when we got it! We turned up right on the booking time as we'd had drinks in the bar beforehand. The restaurant was fairly empty at the time. Saw others come in after us and eating before any waiting staff had even come to our table. Had to ask for someone to take our order. It was over 1.5 hours before we'd even been offered a bread roll. Apart from waiting 2 hours for food, it's a lovely venue.

Good food, staff and atmosphere. Great choice for a pub meal if you feel like something beyond a chicken parmi, but still want to keep it laid back.

Had dinner here, really nice atmosphere and delicious food. My wife got the grilled chicken breast which she really enjoyed. I had the Beef and Mushroom pie. This was one of the best pies I’ve ever had, so yummy! Would definitely come back.

Really enjoyed our work Melbourne cup lunch. The pub looks great and they serve delicious food. I had the kangaroo, they cooked it the way I wanted.

Had a wonderful lunch with friends. The share platter was fantastic with house made pork pie, pate and relish. All our main meals were excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. A bit dearer than your average pub meal but well worth the cost.

Good pub food and good variety to choose from. Wine and beverage list offers sufficient choices. Prices are up there for food and drink. Atmosphere is pleasant, not too noisy. Staff were friendly, service was slow though.

  • 4/5 Wimble W. 1 year ago on Google
The staff were very friendly, helpful and kind. The food prices and drink prices are higher than I would expect. The atmosphere in the bar area is slightly similar to a traditional British pub, with open fires etc. The on tap beers are pretty much all local with the exception of Heineken, they are good quality. The food is average and appears to be microwaved so in essence very similar to a lot of Wetherspoon pubs in the UK. All in all I would visit again but just for a few beers

I have been to the British several times this year & have always enjoyed the food. This time I had oregano rubbed chicken breast with spinach, lentils & raddichio. The chicken was moist & flavourful & there was plenty of it. The wine list here is very good & I think the hotel is well worth a visit.

Eight friends had dinner at the British. Every meal was fantastic- best steak, lamb blackstrap & calamari. Every dish had its own unique flavour. An added bones sensation Guinness on tap. Also, the staff were so friendly & helpful. Will be back :)
