Bit rundown pub, that has its glory days long gone, but surprisingly great selection of food including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, which was really surprising to find. Otherwise everything you can expect from pub plenty of beers to chose and even tea if you after one. Service very nice and kind. Sever seating options at bar, separate dining area more quiet behind and few outdoor seating. Something for everyone

The Royal Oak was absolutely buzzing on Sunday evening when we went for dinner. It was a cosy and electric environment. It was our first time at the pub and we enjoyed our meal. Two steaks were ordered rare and came out well done but we’re not fussy eaters and enjoyed them all the same.

Pleasant catch up with friends. Lunch was very nice. Many of us had the fish and chips special. $18.50 including a glass of Chardonnay.. Only one piece but very nice....

Service great, but I have never been in a venue where people are vaping, smoking cigars and openly pulling joints. Oh, hang on yes I have, but it was in Southern Mexico. I couldn't believe this was going on in and outside the Royal Oak

Memorable Friday night, acoustic gig from an interstate traveling musician. Background music & drink's while relaxing after hectic work week.

This is a very eclectic place with many interesting curios scattered around the interior. I could not complain about the service. The drinks were reasonably priced. I didn't have a meal so can not comment on the food. Well worth a visit, especially when they have live music.

Nice chill atmosphere. Stopped in for a couple of quiet drinks and loved the place. The band was great, and the place had several different areas, so still able to hear a conversation and the music at the same time. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area. Looking forward to trying the food on my next visit.

Wow what a visit. Our booking for lunch was for 1215pm but a prior appointment finished early so we arrived early abound 1130 thinking we could maybe sit inside and have a cold drink out of the heat of outside it was already 33 degrees and what unfolded was downright disrespectful and rude. The front doors were not open so we went around to the gaming entrance to find that entrance to the dining area also to be closed so thought maybe while we waited for the dining area to be opened my wife and 8 yr old son and I could just sit quietly in the corner of what I thought was the waiting area as there was no where else to sit and wait. Well the gaming room attendant made it known very loudly and very clearly and very rudely that we cannot sit there with a minor. In fact he was so aggressive and rude that he completely ignored his customer and would not listen to my question. He kept saying rather loudly you can't be here you can't be here My question was if we can't be here where can we wait for the dining room to open coz it's too hot outside. His reply was a rude and abrupt you can't be here. I asked him not to be so rude I'm simply asking a question of where can we wait and he even tried to justify his rudeness that we were in a place we could not be in. This scenario could easily have been avoided if there had been somewhere else to sit for the dining room area to open as the gaming waiting room area was the only option I could find I was really surprised the dining area was not open in the first place but the most disappointing aspect of the entire saga was the rude, aggressive and dismissive behaviour of the gaming room employee as he would not listen to my question of another place to wait or provide any assistance whatsoever thru his rude and aggressive behaviour. I really wish I got his name so I could make a personal complaint to the hotel management but I guess people reading this review will just have to do. And for the record we never made it into the dining area. We were never going to eat there after that experience and it would take a miracle for us to even contemplate visiting again.

I recently visited Royal Oak with a group of friends for dinner, and I must say, our experience was highly disappointing. The decline in the quality of their food over the past few years was evident in every aspect of our meal. We ordered a margherita pizza priced at $22 and a grill share platter priced at $50, expecting a delightful culinary experience. the pizza we received seemed like it had been hastily thrown into the oven straight from the freezer. The crust felt more like bread, lacking the authentic crispness and flavor one expects from a well-made pizza. As for the grill share platter, it was a sad sight to behold. The presentation was underwhelming, and the portion size did not justify the hefty price tag. The selection of items on the platter seemed meager, and the overall quality was subpar. Even the cocktails, while not terrible, were far from impressive. This experience was the final straw for us, and we have decided not to return.

Great service for my partners 30th last night! Excellent food and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Michael was amazing ensuring we had everything organised the way we wanted and that everything ran smoothly on the night. Thank you again for all your help! Jaz was an absolutely amazing bartender and ran the room so well. Definitely hit this girl up if you're not sure what you feel like drinking - she has some killer recommendations. It was a very busy night with the main bar having a live band - and I could not say one bad thing about how the whole staff ran the night for us. Apologies again for staying so late! Would 100% recommend the Royal Oak for anyone's birthday or celebration! 🍾

Food is excellent. Solid serving size. Came out very quick. Staff are very friendly. They were able to accomodate our 11 people. Ended up spending a couple of hours to enjoy the live music after dinner. Food for the kids was great.

Excellent venue, great food at good value. The staff are friendly and the service is fantastic, only issue is there are too many carparks (5+) allotted to the BWS for browsing shoppers, we have dined there for lunch the last 2 Saturdays and on both occasions all but 1 were empty so would be better served as carparks for hotel patrons rather than being empty given O'Connell St can be difficult to find a park in.

Great food affordable and value for money..staff were welcoming and accomodating the kitchen had closed and we were late ordering dessert but they went above and beyond to get a dessert for our mother and venue is superb. Would recommend.

First time in Adelaide and dropped in on a whim, really fun atmosphere, super friendly, and Brooke and Steph made me feel so welcome and kept me company and showed me the ropes. Will definitely be back!

Fantastic staff and love the cozy feel. We had three pizzas. Nice topping on all, but the bases were consistently under-cooked. Soft and bread like. Not an authentic pizza base. I know they have just started doing pizzas but please get this right. The pie and mash looked fantastic. Beers (great selection) are great and service is excellent. Love the grungy feel to the place. There is a great section out back for private parties. Front bar is cozy and feels good. Definitely going back for more. Another review says “run down”. They didn’t get it! It’s meant to be like that. Hah!

Joshua has gone out of his way to make sure we are all looked after, coming out the front and lighting all the heaters to keep us warm. Always there to serve up the beverages. Great work.

Great place. The Decor and atmosphere are fantastic. When your an Englishman it's hard to find a pub with character like you have at home. This has mountains of it. If only there were more like this.

Good little eclectic place, good plant based options for the vego friends, and a relaxing atmosphere. Went for lunch so it was quieter, but I would not hesitate to try a dinner there when our experience was so pleasant.

Pub was good, drinks well priced, however went in with a group of friends and was rudely and quite bluntly asked for ID (which is totally understandable) however the lady was extremely rude and walked off without serving us after she just checked our IDs. Would probably recommend not being so rude just because a group is younger, especially since the group probably bought $200 worth of drinks.

A great place to visit. Very quirkie but I loved it. Service was great with very friendly staff in all areas on the day we visited. Food was amazing with very generous serving sizes. Would recommend. Would definitely visit again next time we are in Adelaide.

Had a small function on a Friday night. Nick and the crew on the night were amazing and accomodating. Was easy planning it with Dan during the weeks leading up. Would recommend and will be back!

Food was tasty but it did take a long time to receive our meals. Also annoying that the happy hour drink specials were only available via the app and not at the bar... super weird.

I held my sons 21st birthday at the Royal oak in the beer garden as a private function. It was an amazing venue. All staff that were on bar or helping out were cool and kind. Mel the event Manager is also great to communicate with. I highly recommend.

The food was great, the decor interesting but my chair was a little uncomfortable. However that wouldn't put me off from going again and the 20% seniors discount was a bonus I hadn't considered prior to going.

I love this pub. Real staff that care about the drinks they make. Great service. Live music when they can and great food. Just ate the burnt ends and karaange chicken . Wow. This is a real pub.

Great atmosphere, live acoustic entertainment. Very busy but beer garden was closed for private function so space in venue was impacted. Albeit great food, steak cooked to order and a fun night.

What a disappointment waited and watched tables being served who came in an hour after we were seated after having booked for my party of 11. One member of our groups meal finally arrived after all others in our group had finished their meals. A birthday celebration completely ruined and finally trying to get a night cap drink before leaving was again a waste of time, it was obvious you needed to be a local to get the attention of the bar staff. All in all sadly a totally ruined night out, never again will I subject my family to such poor service, It's really sad to see how this once great pub has deteriated,

Great little place, perfect atmosphere for drinks when it’s cold. I was served by Natalie throughout my visit. She was absolutely terrific - friendly and attentive. What an asset to the establishment!

  • 1/5 David B. 2 years ago on Google
Two of our meals took 90 mins to arrive, the other two about 15 minutes later. One of steaks was rare, bordering on blue so had to be sent back and took another 20 mins despite being assured it was being 'prioritised' and was medium-well, not medium-rare as ordered. But the worst part of all was that when booking our table 6 days prior, we told them one of the party was on the autism spectrum so it would be helpful to be placed somewhere quieter if possible. Instead, they put us in literally the loudest location in the entire restaurant. We were told there would be live music starting at 8pm, but it started at 7pm, further affecting our autistic person. There was no reason for this, plenty of other tables we could have been allocated in quieter locations in the restaurant.

Food and staff are amazing Extremely friendly staff and very helpful especially the gentleman helping me workout how to use the scan order and pay app that had plenty of patience. My wife and I love the atmosphere and the schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce was delicious. We will have the tapas on our next visit Thankyou to all

I can't believe how bad the service is at this place. The staff don't care, it's written all over there faces. They just look at you as saying oh well get over it. It all started when ordering our meals. They have seemed to not have ordered enough food for their kitchen. If you are looking for a schnitzel you need to order ahead of time because you may not get one. Dinners come out randomly so the first person finishes as the last person starts. "Annoying". Our meals were cold, lost 3 dinner's and a pint of Guinness. Finally we asked for our lost drinks and food to find that they had gone on a break. "Really!" What happened to this place.

Cute Alice of the 70s - lovely staff! Decor is unique and rustic. Food tasty and diverse menu choices. Reasonably priced. Entertainment as in LIVE music Wednesday, Friday to Sunday.

I love the Royal Oak! Great beers on tap and fantastic food. Could maybe reconsider the eclectic furniture. It looks quirky but not necessarily comfortable or practical.

Great retro feel with a really warm fireplace (great for winter), a little cosy but food was great and service was very friendly. Thank you at The Royal Oak for accommodating us.

Love this venue! Food is amazing, the beer selection is huge and offers lots of local micro brewery options. The decor has a retro and warming vibe and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Great to see live music back in venues like this! Get down here you won't regret it.

  • 5/5 Leanne S. 1 year ago on Google
Food was amazing, thankyou. My only critique is that when they take you to your table, we didn't get any menus or told to go to the bar to order. We just sat there waiting and we had to go ask for menus. Just a bit of customer service in that regard would be better, otherwise service was great. Young fella got our order wrong, but was corrected by staff.

I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately our meals were very average, cold oily and over an hour to get pub grub. My meal came out cold and oily and my friends waited about 40 minutes after for theirs. The loud live music in the dining room meant we all had to yell at each other the entire afternoon to have a conversation. Really could be so much better as the place itself has a great retro feel but terribly executed and the waitress was lovely. Poor girl was having to apologise for kitchen staff who clearly had no structure. Lower the volume and plan meals better!!! No point in people going out to eat lunch together if you can't communicate. Can't say I'll be back.

This is actually my first bad review, the girls at the bar must have had a bad day ,after being over charged on my card when I tapped they couldn't have been more unhelpful in trying to fix up the drink order. Their attitude is what the problem was, so we went down the road had a delicious meal at another pub where the staff were great 👍.

Was a really nice atmosphere but unfortunately the food was subpar. My chicken schnitzel was burnt and very dry & tough. And the chips were soggy and flavourless. I'd come back for a drink maybe but probably not the food

Royal Oak is the best venue in Adelaide to have a few pints of Guinness. Go and visit Joshua who is unprententiosly passionate and highly skilled at his craft. The atmosphere is funky and completely chilled. I visited from Sydney and will always come back here when in SA. Sláinte!

Have loved coming to this pub over the years, came in after the Australia England one day game and 1 female staff member was very rude. Have been back since and it's all been good. Came in tonight and the same female staff member was on, terrible rude service. Actually thinking of not coming again.

I ordered the crumbed lamb cutlet with pistachios and basil pesto and a side of chips which definitely did not disappoint. I was amazed by the quality and freshness and rhe chips were truely the best I’ve ever had. The staff were also very sweet and attentive and the atmosphere was really nice. Definitely would recommend!!
