Beautiful location with a lot nice story about the history of how the dam was constructed. Please try to call or search and see if the dam is spilling before you go there. I think you can give a call and go. If not just looking at the dam will not be enough. Also you can get prior permission to go inside and watch the process as well. Also go after 9.00 am as the gates will be open only after that

Nice place to view the dam. Security personnel was very courteous and efficient. Can stay there for hours watching the beauty of the nature. There is a nice cafe and a car park.

If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and learn, the Victoria Dam Viewpoint is a great choice. It's easy to get there by car, and there's a huge parking. There's no entry fee, so it's a great place to visit if you're on a budget. The viewpoint is not crowded, so you can enjoy the peace and quiet. There are lots of things to learn at the viewpoint. There are signs that explain how the dam works and how it helps Sri Lanka. You can also see the dam up close and learn about its history.

I was there on a Tuesday and there were no one except the staff and us. Really nice place. You have to drive around 5km from the main road to reach to this place. That road is not carpeted but in good condition. Not damaged. Road also really calm but have to be careful with broken tree branches. There's a big parking area in the observation area. You have to take permissions in the entrance. Observation desk is really nice. There's a cafeteria but it wasn't operated at that time. Unfortunately the washrooms are not in good condition. Not recommended to travel in the evening due to the condition of the road.

    * motor accessible good road from the main * Totally free of charge. * Beautiful view from the top. * There is a cafeteria. * Good parking facility. * When we were there the water level was very low, so we couldn't witness the real scenery. Nice time to visit this place on rainy seasons when water level is very high.

The viewing area of the Victoria Dam is from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Try to plan your visit during a high rainy season so you can witness the water gates being open. When I reached there it was around 4.30 pm after the cutoff time but when we spoke to the military personnel who were there for security purposes, they were friendly and spoke to the management and they allowed us to visit the viewing area.

Great place to understand and acknowledge the engineering aspects of a dam. We were able to go to the inner part of the dam as well as the bottom of the dam.
