We arrived with family and left exhausted! Had a great time taking in most of their animal collection. However, it was minus the penguins, flamingoes, and other wildlife that are affected by the bird flu. Most animals were displayed within viewing distance except the lions. Three hints. First, the modest train ride takes all of two-three minutes in a small loop and back. Don't expect it to last any longer. Second, the wind machine is three dollars for a few minutes but it's lots of fun. Third, most of their drinks around the park are $2.00 for a typical sized can of Coke and water. Too much if you ask me. The Merry-go-round does go for about five minutes. Gift shop items are expensive. You can get a stuffed animal somewhere else cheaper. Facilities are clean. Maps are clear.

Absolutely the best. Hands down 100% better than the Cleveland Zoo. Clean, full of animals to see, Aquarium included. Only 9$ + parking. Takes about 2+hours to see it all. Well laid out, and easy access for everyone. More animals than Cleveland, now that Cleveland Zoo is in such disrepair. The animals are all out, happy and playful. ☆ only downside the food is nasty, undercooked and over priced, just bring snacks and water with you.

If you haven't been to the Akron zoo yet, you definitely need to get it on your bucket list and put it down as a priority. Hands down, this is such a relaxing, peaceful place to spend any day. Alone, or with family and/ or friends. It's never overly crowded, it's affordable and easy parking and entering. Not only well maintained animal exhibits with fun and interactive walkways, but beautiful garden areas with many Ohio native plants that help to sustain local wildlife and our pollinators. We went for the Christmas lights called the Wild lights and wasn't disappointed. What a wonderful experience for the entire family.

We had a wonderful time at the Akron Zoo! From the moment we walked in the door the staff were so nice and helpful with our membership gift certificate we had. The were really kind and engaging with my 8yo son. It was a hot day so some of the exhibits the animals were hunkered in the shade but by the afternoon things had cooled off so we were able to see almost all the animals being active. The zoo is so walkable that going back to an exhibit is very easy. Definitely looking forward to going back!

Awesome light show. Great activities for the kids. Carousel, train ride, s'mores making station and characters walking around. Great price. Set up of the zoo is great with the layout. Plenty of animals and hands on experience for children indoors and so much fun outside!

We got to see a baby white faced (golden) gibbon!! It was just a beautiful day at the zoo with the family. Most of the animals were sleeping during midday but were usually close to the observation areas. Weather was perfect (remember to pack sunscreen), not too many crowds, and we got to see all the animals we hoped to. Akron zoo is just the right size to visit all the exhibits while lingering at your favorites, all in one day! Can't wait to take the kids back to see the new areas once they are completed.

The zoo is beautiful however I did not see any animals as I expected. A chipmunk 🐿️ ran in front of me and the penguins looked sad. The garden is beautiful and it appears the children can always have fun anywhere.

Great zoo. Not very big, but very well designed. Definitely a great zoo! We went in mid December. Everything wasn't open of course, but we had plenty of room to wonder.

I was a kid of the '80s, so I pretty much grew up at this zoo.The Akron Zoo was pretty much a city park with exotic animals in cages way back in the day and now I stand in awe and amazement of what they have done with this piece of beautiful land that was donated she did city of Akron way back in the fifties I believe and all of the exotic animals they have helped with a home. This will always be one of my favorite little zoos, I had always enjoyed bringing my sons here as they were growing up. My recent trip to the zoo was just awesome I was accompanied by my service dog who is in training, this was her 1st time at a zoo and also accompanied by my 17 year old son. The zoo welcomed my service dog with open arms, they even announced over the allowed speaker there was a service dog in the zoo. That in itself helped relieve a lot of my anxiety and made it so much easier to concentrate on training. But boy howdy how the memories just come flooding back walking through the zoo. I absolutely love the new addition wild Asian!!! Great time at the Akron Zoo even though it's small and doesn't take long to walk through as an adult it still an awesome place, especially for family with young children to come and hang out for the day. Can't wait we'll be back real soon for another visit!!!

Family fun! Not every gift has to be under the tree, they can be experiences. This is an experience to be had. The lights are amazing. The atmosphere warm and inviting, even on a cold first day of winter❄ in Akron Ohio. Great exercise, hot chocolate,🍫 smores, concession stand (I doors). Carousel 🎠 rides and a great view of the city from the top of the wall. Don't forget to visit SANTA !!🎅 ENJOY! Like and follow for more adventures 😀 Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays 🎄

Zoo lights 2023! Enjoyed by the whole family. Lots and lots of gorgeous lights. We saw the snow leopard! The outside fire pits were a nice touch. S'mores kits were available to purchase and hot chocolate with Bailey's or peppermint schnapps as well. The very best part was the goats! My kids wanted to stay and pet those goats all night. The Grinch was hilarious and available for pics.

My boys and I love this zoo. We go pretty regularly. My boys love to ride the carousel and go down the otter slide when we visit. This slide takes you under the water of the otter exhibit and the otters can swim over and around you. Definitely their favorite.

Medium sized zoo that took 2 hours to go through. Only a couple exhibits were closed for renovations etc. You paid for parking inside and it was kinda pointless since you didn't put the receipt in your car so it was just free money for them unless you left and came back. There were staff at the popular exhibits to give facts and teach about the animals. There was a good amount of shade at viewing areas and then the aquatic animals so it wasn't too miserable in the sun. The gardens were out of bloom but had potential to be beautiful in the summer. Plenty of seating and random exercise posts in the park I saw one family doing. Extra money is needed to feed goats (($1 a cracker) and ride the train.

What a nice Zoo, perfect for young kids. You don't have to walk miles and miles. Even with family's there it was very quiet. It's a great place to go for an afternoon trip. The price is great as well.

Nice, quaint zoo, which allows you to see animals a little closer than other zoos. Very unique selection of animals as well. Went on a winter day, so it wasn't very crowded, which probably helped. But very solid experience for the price. Will be back.

Love this place. Small enough for the young ones. Lots for them to see and do. Easy to get to exhibits and I am older and was able to walk through it with the kids. Great for all ages as it is great to see the children and the exhibits. I did notice that the jaguar looked bored and a little stressed. I wish there was more for him to interact with in the exhibit. He just paced back and forth on the platform. He was healthy looking though. Probably just had a spurt of energy. Thank you for keeping the zoo well kept and beautiful.

What a wonderful zoo! It is the perfect size for little kids. You can take a packed lunch or enjoy the food in the Komodo Cafe. The carousel is beautiful. There is a place where you can buy snacks for the goats and even pet them. When the weather is warm, there is a small train for kids to enjoy. There is even a VR ride that you can go on. And you can go down a slide that runs through the otter exhibit. The gift shop is very nice as well. The staff is really nice. They were very diligent with keeping the park clean. There are extra fees for the carousel, VR ride, train, and feeding the goats. You can also rent motorized carts that look like animals. They also offer up close encounters with some of the animals. Those fees are listed on their website, and a staff member can also tell you about them.

Great smaller zoo (compared to Cleveland or Columbus) that only takes about 1 mile of walking to see everything. The paths are easy to follow with minimal backtracking. Some of the older exhibits feel a little cramped, but they are actively working on new, larger exhibits; and the animals look happy.

I love the Akron Zoo. They are always doing something fun to get the community involved. They've also been doing an excellent job keeping their facility clean during the pandemic and making sure all precautions are in place and being upheld. Seeing the Christmas lights this time of year is a great tradition for us!

We had a fun afternoon at the zoo! It was way busier than we expected for a Wednesday but it was great to see so many people out and about and enjoying themselves. We bought tickets and our parking pass online like suggested. It did make it easier and we didn’t have to wait in line so that’s a good tip! I would also suggest bringing food for your little ones. The food line was very long and kids weren’t enjoying waiting so long. The zoo wasn’t as big as we expected it to be but we still had a great time and think it was worth the money we paid.

Great zoo. Not the biggest in terms of size, but if you have little ones (under 12 years old) there is a Ton of stuff for them to do. Many playgrounds and like activity areas. The observation areas of all the exhibits have several viewing spots so everyone does get cramped in 1 area. They had a ton of staff around to explain all the different exhibits and how the animals interact. We make a point to come down at least once a year & would highly recommend everyone to come check them out.

We love visiting our Akron Zoo!! It's always fun and great exercise. Kids hardly notice the physical activity of exploring the zoo (if you have children who complain about walking) lol. It is all around great fun for both adults and kids.

Great experience with the family. Has plenty of ADA access. A wide variety of animals from different parts of the world with lots of educational information on the species and natural habitats. Cafe was great, we all loved the chicken tenders, and their salad was a VERY generous portion. We attended the Boo at the Zoo event, it was very well executed and organized.

1st time going to this zoo. It was an amazing experience! We loved the layout!! I highly recommend checking this zoo out! It may be a smaller zoo, but it's definitely worth the experience! We really enjoyed the Wild Lights exhibit!

Great zoo! Good layout and the perfect size to spend a morning or afternoon. Love the themed areas. Animal areas are large and the enclosures are themed, so you aren't just looking at cages... Super excited for the new areas to open! Get a membership, you'll definitely go back again and again.

I love this zoo. It is fairly priced and can be visited in a couple hours, which is perfect for everyone. Not too long where everyone gets grouchy. The new lion enclosure was our favorite. I like the one way path due to social distancing. I like following one way and knowing I will see everything.

The Christmas Lights were very nice! Animals were out as well, although some were sleeping. 😉 This zoo is not too big and not too small, it's just right. You can get a close up view of many of the animals.

The zoo is easy to get to, as it’s right within Akron city. It’s a cute zoo, with diverse displays. It’s not the largest zoo, so is manageable within a few hours time, and has a lot of educational moments for kiddos. The animals seem calm, relaxed, and we’ll cared for. I overheard a zoo keeper state they’ve had several babies recently, which is a sign of a good zoo. We saw one, an adorable gazelle! The Red Panda, Grizzlies, Lions, and Komodo dragon were particular favorites. I haven’t been as close to a lion another zoos and I could appreciate their size! A lot of the cafes and other stops along the zoo trail were closed, which was too bad, and I wouldn’t plan on getting a bite here. But, lots of places are nearby.

Love the Akron Zoo enough that I buy a membership. The staff is wonderful, the animals are well cared for and it's clean and nearby. They are a part of several endangered species programs which is important to me. The latest baby is a Gibbon which is adorable.

If possible, go on a week day right at opening. Most animals were out and very active! We had so much fun. We got through the zoo in just under 2 hours, but we didn't stop for the carousel or train ride or feeding goats or any extras (but we didn't hurry). We brought in water and easy snacks, and we have a membership because it pays for itself after 2 uses. Even with a corporate event happening, there weren't crazy crowds or wait lines, it's very easy to space out and get through things. Don't skip over the Gibbons because the baby is so cute and FULL of energy! We will for sure be back so many times, and I'm glad the birds are out again!

The zoo is beautiful. It is small enough that younger kids will be able to walk the whole zoo. It feels like you can get closer to the animals. My kids LOVED the otter slide and the otter seemed to have just as much fun swimming around the slide. Most of the birds weren't out because of the avian flu but we did see a couple of them.

This was actually our first visit to the Akron Zoo! I wasn't really prepared as a last minute decision to stop after an appointment at Akron Children's. I would have had sunscreen, extra frozen water bottles, snacks, hats, & water spray fans. There are a lot of nice areas to sit, relax and enjoy throughout the zoo, so we rushed a bit to get through it. Be prepared. Lots of school field trips when we first got there with kids running, screaming and sitting in display areas with little interest in the actual animals. They cleared out and we were able to enjoy most of the exhibits. The architecture and design was really nice, very different from the Cleveland zoo. The otter exhibit with the slide was really fun for the kids. Overall I'd say it was a really good experience, as Cleveland zoo members we only paid like $20, which made it well worth the cost of admission. We'll just be sure to be more prepared next time, so we can spend more time!

We love this zoo! Good selection of animals, it's a clean facility, there's an aquarium... Just a really nice place to spend an afternoon. The LEMURS and RED PANDAS are the best. If you live within a short drive I'd recommend the yearly pass. Pays for itself in a few visits and it's good for 12 months.

It was an overall mediocre place. Well designed layout, plenty of unique flora & fauna, etc. Why the 3-star review? Advertising and inadequate shelter for many of the animals. I unbeknownst went during "senior safari", which was meant to admit senior citizens at a discount. That was great; more places need to do that. However, that "feature" also included *Insurance and retirement vendors* at literally every single "hot spot" throughout the entire zoo. I visited the entire place, and encountered well over 25 kiosks/tents trying to sell the elderly healthcare/ retirement plans, life insurance policies, etc. It was genuinely gross to see these vendors preying upon the seniors that were just there to see some animals. Also, the Galapagos tortoise display was just negligent and cruel. Yes, I'm aware of their natural habitat. They had one tiny mud puddle that they were both desperately trying to hide/ cool off in. It was about 90°F in full sun, and they had to share a tiny (less than 3" deep x 2' diameter), filthy mud pit. They were huddled together in that mud as if their lives depended on it. They probably did. The jellyfish enclosures were unethically undersized. Many of the animals just looked miserable and lacked sufficient protection from the elements. I don't blame them. This place had several cafés/ mini restaurants throughout. They were disgustingly overpriced. I expected a significant markup, but it was like $11 for a 300 calorie tray of nachos. The same could be bought at Taco Bell for $2 (which is still a rip-off). It's purely opportunistic pricing, and that makes me sick. Parking and restroom availability is a massive issue as well. This is not an impressive place.

Be prepared! I've visited this zoo many times in the past with my family but this pandemic has changed it for the worst. All indoor exhibits are closed, there is long lines to see the animals, most animals are not in their display areas for some reason....90 degree weather, trekking uphill with a air restricting mask to see the lions only to find out there is a 30 min wait line....sorry Akron zoo, I'll see you and the animals after this covid is done.

  • 5/5 NoTMe 5. 3 years ago on Google
Still really good all things considered, they've kept it going while keeping distance between people, all play grounds/interactive tunnel things are closed for contact reasons but still fun if you don't want to miss the zoo this year. I feel like they had some new animals too. They have it laid out so you follow a path of arrows all the way thru and back.

Proud to have a place like this in our little city. It's very restricted right now due to Covid but still worth the visit if for no other reason than to feel a bit like things are normal. Asian area construction has ground to a halt but when it's completed it should be something to see. Especially if it's anything like the Grizzly Ridge remodel. Love this place for a quick weekend visit.

The Zoo staff is doing a great job keeping things clean, supervising social distancing, limiting visitors, and still keeping the facility running smoothly. It was good to see the new attractions and peak at some of the new ones under construction. Love the Zoo.

The Akron zoo is small, but it allows you to get closer to the animals than any other zoo I've been to. It also has a lot of trees that provide good shade. The current covid-19 protocols make the experience even better because it limits the number of people in the park.

Went in 2018 when a friend and I had to stop in Ohio for some business. Believe it was around February or March. It was in the middle of the day and pretty chilly, so there weren't many people there. The animals all looked well taken care of and the place was rather clean. Even spoke with one of the staff at the tiger's habitat about Mike the Tiger (I'm from Baton Rouge, Louisiana). Overall, a nice break from a long road trip before driving back the 15 hours home.

I've come here since I was 5. It's pretty memorable. Nice exhibits. Anywhere that involves food is always insanely crowded though. Like you can barely walk sort of crowded. I would recommend packing a lunch or just eating before you go. And the price? Oh lord, don't get me started on the price (of food). Everything else is fine animals seem happy etc.

So I love this zoo, but unfortunately anyone wanting to visit should wait until it opens up fully. It's a smaller zoo and everything inside (except the gift shop, go figure) is closed, so there is quite a bit less to see. However, it is one very nice experience under normal circumstances.

Small zoo, but perfect for my 2 year old and I. The buildings and main cafe are closed due to Covid, so eating and the restrooms, are up the hill. Make sure you purchase tickets online first.

My family visited Akron Zoo during Covid and things were very organized. They had arrows directing you through the zoo to better promote social distancing. No buildings were open so we will have to come back again to check those out. It is a smaller zoo so not as much walking as Cleveland or Columbus. It's definitely worth checking out, even during a pandemic, because the price is only $8 a person.

Many years ago, the Akron zoo was a sad place to visit, but it has come a long way. All the exhibits are new and they are still adding new areas. The kids love the carousel and love the otter exhibit. They have done a great job to adapt to Covid with a set path to follow, markers for keeping 6 feet between groups and closing inside exhibits. The staff is always friendly and there to help out with any questions. Prices are what you would expect for a zoo.

Decent Zoo. Staff were all working hard and sanitizing everything. Very strict time rules for entrance. I mean literally if you show up at 11:29am and your ticket was for 11:30am, they will make you wait that minute to let you in. Gift shop has a lot of cool stuff for kids. Animal exhibits look like they are kept pretty clean. I recommend checking Akron Zoo out for a quick fun experience.

Always love this zoo! First time back after pandemic measures in place and I think they are doing as best they can. The limited people, buildings closed, etc. Just watch out for others and be respectful and you will be just fine with masks on. Having the bathrooms be open was a lifesaver!

Nice visit. Not all exhibits are currently open due to covid19 as well as limited restrooms.

Any indoor exhibits closed. Had to wait in line to see any animals.really hot day and couldn't get a drink anywhere before 11. Definitely do not recommend going during covid.

  • 1/5 Justin B. 3 years ago on Google
Terrible trip..Not recommended at all! Had to reserve a spot, no animals were out, everything inside was closed! They just get you to walk through and then escort you out through the gift shop so you might spend more money, big waste of a beautiful day!

Tons of stuff to do here... probably when it's fully open again. Went here about 2 yrs ago. The place was pretty clean. Though I think the biggest problem would be how far the restrooms are at any point. The Pride of Africa was under construction. And there was talk of more to come. Can't wait to visit when it's fully functional again. The only thing I disliked was the awful smell before you got to the zoo. For a moment there, you'd think it was the zoo its self. No it's the surrounding area that stinks 🤮 like sewage. Inside the zoo smells fresh and clean. Food was freaking awesome. Parking is not free but a few bucks if I remembercorrectly, but jammed packed when we got there. Drove around for a few looking for a spot. The tickets were okay pricing for what you get to see, even with construction going on. My kids loved the bird area, the cute funny otters, the lazy lions, and the funny bear sitting in the water against the window. The carousel was cute and the gift shop was huge.

Took 5 kids ranging from 2-14 and my lady to the wild lights exhibit and they all had a blast. The light displays were outstanding and they even gave out free carousel rides which was nice. Took us an hour and a half to walk through it all ( lot longer than it should but All THEM KIDS lol!!!) Tickets are a bit pricy and they charge for anyone over 2yrs of age but was still alot of fun for all.

Went for wild lights Christmas. Always a nice experience. They sold tickets by a scheduled time which spaced people out very well. Worth the $13 adult price, great evening for the kids. $3 for parking once your inside the lobby.

We had a great winter experience with many animals we don't usually see active in the spring and summer. Clawdia is our new favorite. With the social distancing- it felt like we owned the zoo. As usual, the Akron Zoo always is delightful!

Had a blast at the Valentine's day event. There is a nice mix if indoor and outdoor spread out across the zoo. While not small zoo its not a the largest, about 2.5 to 3 hours to make around at a quick pace. Great size for a family.

Been going to the zoo for years; its a great local activity. I must say, I enjoyed this visit the most. Social distancing and lowered capacity meant that for the first time in years, we were able to actually see animals without a crowd of strollers, etc. Lovely time! My husband's first visit!

I think this zoo is a great value for the money and we enjoyed our visit. I was impressed that they had a komodo dragon but was a little disappointed that there were no crocodilians. It would also be great if they expanded the indoor tropical exhibits, especially for winter when most of the outdoor animals are sheltering from the cold.

The Akron Zoo is doing an amazing job of staying relevant and safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their admission intervals have done a good job of keeping numbers within the zoo quite manageable and well spaced. We love it for feeling safer, and also for being better able to enjoy the exhibits without feeling bunched or rushed. Happy to support our local zoo!

  • 5/5 Joseph D. 3 years ago on Google
Akron zoo is amazing. You are so close to the animals. A thin piece of glass is all that separates you from most of the animals.

It's a great zoo. Smaller than Cleveland but I think that is what makes it great for little kids because it's easier to manage

  • 4/5 Sheila P. 3 years ago on Google
This was my first visit to the Akron Zoo ever. I always lived more North and would just go to the Cleveland Zoo. Even though a majority of the animals we're not outside I enjoyed it quite a bit. I absolutely love that it's not some monstrosity of a park kind of like the Cleveland. It was nice to walk all the way through a park without my child complaining about how tired he was from walking LOL I definitely recommend anyone to give it a try. I can't wait to go back into the spring and summer.

This is a great little zoo! It appears to be very well-maintained and there are some really great species of animals here. The red pandas are so beautiful. There are exhibits of plants as well as animals. Our children love it and now our grandchildren will as well. Kids love the boo at the zoo.

Great place for my 3 year old. Animals look healthy and well cared for. Likely the closest you'll get to most of these animals. They do a lot of events, especially for members. If you have a family, I recommend you get a family pass. You get your money worth in like 2 trips.

  • 4/5 Kelli S. 2 years ago on Google
We love the Akron zoo! Not too many animals out but the weather was great and my toddler loves running around and the merry go round. The new Wild Asia exhibit seems like it will be nice. We were there Tuesday and only one animal was out in all of the exhibits, maybe next time we’ll see more;)

  • 4/5 Kristie C. 2 years ago on Google
We just enjoyed Brew at Zoo. What a fun event! It's a unique experience to see the animals after hours, an experience all animal lovers should appreciate. There were a great variety of breweries there, we had plenty of time to stop at each one. We were a bit disappointed that several of the breweries ran out of tastings, but we still managed to get all 8 tastings in ;). We'll definitely do other special events.

  • 5/5 Melissa F. 2 years ago on Google
We had a blast with our Discover Camp kiddos. The weather was perfect and almost every animal was out and visible. All the kids seemed really interested in the exhibits and even paid attention to the signs outside each enclosure. Staff was readily available to answer any questions. The only negative about the zoo itself was that it's pretty small, so adults will probably get bored easily. But for kids it's the perfect size.

  • 5/5 Cassandra W. 2 years ago on Google
The zoo is always a fun place to go for little kids just to get them out of the house. The lions are always asleep when we go lately, but the animals don't look as miserable as they used to some years back. We love our Akron Zoo!

We love this zoo. It's great for younger kids. Not as much walking as Cleveland and exhibits are closer together. Animals are also closer to see. You can be inches away from a lion behind glass.

  • 4/5 Felicia W. 2 years ago on Google
I loved this Zoo, it's not as big as the Zoo near me but it was worth the 46 minute trip. For two adults and two children, I paid $49 for us all. It was really busy and super crowded so u was happy I purchased my tickets online, the ticket line had over a 30 minute wait. There are a lot of information on the animals all over the zoo and lots of interactive activities throughout the Zoo. The animals seemed to he cared for very well. I love how close you are to the animals. The lions were so close only a piece of glass separated us from them. It was a very enjoyable experience.

  • 5/5 K. S. 2 years ago on Google
Very beautiful zoo. It was hit so most of the animals were sleeping but they have very close viewing windows and the animals were sleeping in full view. The bears were so funny sitting in their pool of water. Again right next to a full view window. There is a water spray zone for humans to cool off. Loved this zoo.

Small zoo you can get through in a day. Makes it nice because it is a short adventure. Has a small selection of stuff that is newer and nice but in all not alot of exhibits. This time when we went over half of them was closed and was very disappointing.

  • 4/5 Hyabusa 2 years ago on Google
Great place for kids to see animals. Limited animals compared to Cleveland zoo, but worth a short trip if U’re in Youngstown area. Most of the birds were not on display due to concerns for avian flu.

  • 3/5 Kim G. 2 years ago on Google
We love the Akron Zoo. Disappointed today after for passes electronically on advance had to wait in the regular admission line just to get in. It was a beautiful day, crowded with lots of little kids as expected. I'm going to say half the animals weren't out. I know this varies according to weather (and avian flu the zoo is having to deal with), but walking from empty viewing area to empty viewing area is sad for little kids.

  • 5/5 Олеся . 1 year ago on Google
A beautiful zoo, there is a large square where you can walk, I saw few animals as they were sleeping. A beautiful garden that makes great photos. One minus is that you have to buy tickets in advance, we waited an hour for the ticket office to open. Once was enough)))

Been going to the Akron Zoo since the 1970's. This Zoo is a smaller one but over the years they have improved it a lot most definitely for the better. More natural habitat for the animals which is so nice. Bought a season family pass to take my grandkids which will pay for itself in only two visits. A no brainer. They are always improving and making it better for everyone. It takes about two hours or so to go through. We will be back soon. Love it!

  • 4/5 Emery B. 10 months ago on Google
This is a small local zoo with well cared for facilities and it is highly accessible. The people here work hard and animals are well cared for, but it is small. They are reasonably priced and have lots of other things to try but if you want lots of animals and a lot of exhibits try somewhere else.

  • 4/5 Themistocles P. 10 months ago on Google
The zoo was great! There were a lot of different animals that we had not seen at other zoos. Will admit that many of the animals were sleeping, but that's just how it goes when its nap time. I know it can be frustrating for the little ones, but they need their sleep too. The best exhibit had to be jellyfish. Always seen them on the beach (dead) and in films. Sitting there and actually seeing them float around was awesome!

Our family enjoys frequent trip to the Akron Zoo. It's always a great trip for the whole family and it seems like we learn something new every time we visit. We recently went in the rain and it was so cool to see how some of the animals behaved versus how they seemingly hide when it is "nice" out. The newer Asia exhibit is a great addition and I am excited to see what the Akron Zoo has in store next!

  • 5/5 Karhy W. 9 months ago on Google
One of the nicest zoos we've ever been too. Not to big, not to small. The aquarium exhibits were super healthy. The landscaping was another plus. My favorite part was feeding the goats, they have these large crackers you can purchase such a clean way to feed them.

Our family had a membership and visited first time this year. Parking lot wasn't very big as i thought.. the zoo sign could use some creativity. The location is questionable. Like they ran out of space and put it by condos lmao. Staff are very nice and friendly. To compare this to Columbus and Cleveland Zoo's, Akron zoo is very detailed in most areas than CLE, way smaller than both Zoo's, on a hot day the penguins right when you walk in are very smelly lol. The zoo is very ADA friendly and all the ADA doors worked! Unlike the Columbus zoo... unfortunately the overpriced food was awful and bland, the chicken tenders were all gristle, pizza very bland. Was a little disappointed in the food options. There's a lot of hills to go up at this zoo. Kids loved the misting poles! Could do a little better with the bathrooms and add nursing rooms like the other Zoo's. That would be amazing. Gift shop was beautiful.

It was amazing. The animals were out and active. And I was disappointed that I didn't get to see the otters. But other than that. It was cool. I enjoyed myself. And so did my son.

We went as part of the Backpack Adventure. Kids from Akron Public Schools get a free backpack with school supplies. The kids and two adults get in free, which was very nice. There were also little stations set up throughout the park that had brochures and little treats (candy, pens, stickers, notebooks, etc). I do want other parents to know, that while the backpack and supplies are nice, they aren't all of what your child will need. If your child uses a Chromebook, the backpack doesn't have a place for it. The supplies are basic, we still have to get crayons and scissors. In my opinion it's still worth going, especially because admission was free. The zoo itself is small, but with variety. It was clean and the animals looked well cared for.

  • 5/5 Kaleigh L. 7 months ago on Google
Our time at the zoo was amazing and the kids had so much fun!! As usual, the staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a perfect variety of different animals within in the space of the zoo, which is noy small but not large either and can easily be walked through in 2-3 hours. My 3 and 5 year olds had no issues and walked he entire way. They really enjoyed the bat exhibit and the carousel. We will definitely be going back and I am seriously considering purchasing a family membership so we can enjoy this local attraction whenever the fancy strikes.

Took my great niece and two great nephews (ages 4, 3 & 1) for the free community event. They had a great time seeing the different animals, playing in the tunnel, walking across the rope bridge, and the slide through the otter exhibit!! I recommend packing lunch/snacks and having a stroller or cart of some kind to transport the little ones.

  • 5/5 Dorene Y. 7 months ago on Google
The Akron zoo is a great experience for you and your children or grandchildren. It's small enough to not be a burden for the little ones, yet big enough to have wonderful interaction with so many animals. I would absolutely recommend purchasing a membership for your family, and enjoying the benefits here in Akron as well as discounts when you travel to other city's zoos. So much more fun than sitting at home with a video game!

  • 5/5 Erika J. 7 months ago on Google
1st time going and I absolutely loved it. It is smaller then the cleveland zoo and really directed towards young kids. Having a 1.5 year old he enjoyed it and all the exhibits were low to the ground. I think if adult kids went they might he bored after a while. Great Cafe, cute zoo.
