Sayyid
Ali
bin
Musa
bin
Jafar
bin
Tawoos,
known
as
Sayyid
Ibn
Tawoos
(589-664
AH),
one
of
the
Shia
religious
scholars,
the
author
of
the
book
Luhof
(The
Killing
of
Imam
Hussain
(AS))
and
the
leader
of
the
Shiites
during
the
Mongol
rule
in
Baghdad.
He
was
called
"Jamal
al-Arifin"
due
to
his
piety,
frequent
meditation
and
mystical
moods.
Ibn
Tavus'
tendency
was
more
towards
moral
and
spiritual
issues,
especially
prayer
and
pilgrimage,
and
he
wrote
a
collection
of
works
titled
"Tatmat
Misbah
al-Mutahjad"
which
is
the
completion
of
Sheikh
Tusi's
Misbah
al-Mutahjad
on
the
subject
of
prayer.
Allameh
Hali
and
Sheikhiosuf
Sadid
al-Din
(Allameh
Hali's
father)
were
students
of
Sayyid
Ibn
Tavus.
The
library
of
Seyyed
Bin
Tavus,
which
has
more
than
1500
books,
is
a
remarkable
personal
collection.
Abu
al-Qasim
Ali
bin
Musa
bin
Jafar
bin
Muhammad
bin
Tavus
Hali,
nicknamed
Razi
al-Din,
was
from
the
Tavus
family;
Therefore,
he
is
known
as
Sayyid
Ibn
Tavus.
Ibn
Tavus
was
born
on
Thursday,
Muharram
15,
589
AH
in
the
city
of
Halla,
Iraq.
He
was
also
called
Dhul-Hasbin
(the
one
who
has
two
noble
lineages),
because
his
great
ancestor
is
Dawud
bin
Hasan
al-Mathni,
the
grandson
of
Imam
Hasan
(a)
and
the
granddaughter
of
Imam
Sajjad
(a)
and
is
considered
one
of
the
Sadats
of
Hosni
Hosseini.
His
father,
Musa
bin
Jafar,
is
one
of
the
great
narrators
of
hadith
who
wrote
his
narrations
in
sheets,
and
after
him
his
son
collected
them
and
published
them
under
the
name
Farqa
al-Nazir
wa
Bahja
al-Khater
Mamma
Wali
Wali
Musa
bin
Jafar.
His
mother
was
also
the
daughter
of
Varam
bin
Abi
Firas,
one
of
the
great
scholars
of
Imamiya.
Also,
his
father's
mother
was
a
descendant
of
Sheikh
Tusi,
and
for
this
reason,
Seyyed
Ibn
Tavus,
when
referring
to
Ibn
Abi
Firas
and
also
Sheikh
Tusi,
called
them
his
grandfather.
His
brother
Ahmad
bin
Tavus
was
also
one
of
the
scholars
of
the
era
and
after
the
death
of
Seyyed
bin
Tavus,
he
assumed
the
title
of
Shia.
Ibn
Tavus
began
his
studies
in
Halla
and
after
a
while
he
migrated
from
Halla
to
Kazmin.
He
then
married
the
daughter
of
the
minister
Nasir
bin
Mahdi
and
as
he
says,
because
of
this
marriage,
he
settled
in
Baghdad
for
a
long
time.
According
to
a
report,
he
stayed
in
Baghdad
for
15
years,
which
some
have
considered
from
around
625
AH
to
640
AH.
After
that,
he
returned
to
Hillah
and
his
son
Muhammad
Mustafa
was
born
there.
A
few
years
later,
he
moved
to
Najaf
with
his
family.
And
after
that
he
migrated
to
Karbala
and
stayed
in
each
of
them
for
three
years.
His
son
named
Ali
was
born
in
Najaf
in
647
and
finished
the
book
of
Faraj
al-Mahmum
in
Karbala
in
650.
Seyyed
Ibn
Tavus
returned
to
Baghdad
again
in
652
AH.
And
in
661
AH,
he
assumed
the
leadership
and
leadership
of
the
Alawites
on
behalf
of
Hulako
Khan
Mughal,
and
held
this
position
until
his
death.
.
Seyyed
Ibn
Tavus
began
his
education
in
the
city
of
Halla
and
learned
elementary
sciences
from
his
father
and
grandfather,
Waram
Ibn
Abi
Firas.
He
made
significant
progress
in
the
study
of
jurisprudence
compared
to
his
fellow
students,
so
that
within
one
year
he
learned
what
his
fellow
students
had
studied
a
few
years
before
and
gained
superiority
over
them.
According
to
his
own
interpretation,
after
studying
jurisprudence
for
two
and
a
half
years,
he
himself
He
saw
it
as
unnecessary
from
the
teacher.
Later,
he
lived
in
Baghdad
for
a
long
time
and
studied
and
taught
there
Allameh
Halli
(died
726
AH)
has
described
Sayyid
Ibn
Tavus
as
having
some
dignity.
Allameh
Majlesi
also
mentioned
Ibn
Tavus
with
titles
such
as:
Seyyed
Naqeeb,
Moustaq,
Zahid
and
Jamal
al-Arifin.
Muhaddith
Qomi
has
praised
him
with
qualities
such
as:
noble,
pious,
ascetic,
happy,
the
leader
of
the
mystics,
the
lamp
of
the
night-lifers,
the
possessor
of
dignity,
Tavus
al-Tavus
In
the
city
of
Halla,
there
is
a
tomb
attributed
to
Seyyed
Ibn
Tavus,
but
Ibn
Foti
(AD
723
AH)
said
in
the
Book
of
Events
of
the
Community
that
his
body
was
moved
to
Najaf
after
his
death
and
buried
next
to
Imam
Ali
(peace
be
upon
him).
And
Sayyid
Ibn
Tawoos
himself
has
also
written
in
Kitab
Falah
Al-Saqeel
that
he
prepared
a
grave
for
himself
next
to
Markadmir
al-Mu'minin
and
supervised
the
preparation
of
the
grave
himself.
Some
have
suggested
that
the
court
with
the
name
of
Sayyid
bin
Tavus
in
Halham
belongs
to
his
son
of
the
same
name,
Razi
al-Din
Ali
bin
Ali
bin
Musa,
who
shared
the
name,
nickname
and
title
with
his
father.
It
has
been
narrated
from
Sayyid
Ibn
Tavus's
honors
in
the
presence
of
Imam
Zaman:
At
dawn,
I
heard
this
prayer
from
Sahib
Al-Amr,
who
said:
"O
God,
you
created
our
Shiites
from
the
rays
of
our
light
and
our
darkness,
they
have
committed
many
sins
If
their
sins
are
related
to
you,
forgive
them
because
you
have
satisfied
us,
and
if
their
sins
are
related
to
themselves
and
the
people,
correct
yourself
among
them.
And
give
them
from
the
khums
that
is
our
right,
so
that
they
will
be
satisfied,
and
save
them
from
the
fire
of
hell,
and
do
not
join
them
with
our
enemies
in
your
anger."

Bin
Tavus
