These ancient ruins were a sight to behold! Imagining the history in this place is unreal...it's ancient! Be prepared to walk- but it's well worth it. There are signs in both English and Arabic. There are nice walkways built throughout. It may not be accessible for disabled or handicapped people. (No rails and ramps).

This is such a special place full of history and soul. You can imagine the many glorious things that have taken place here over time. There is some reconstruction work going on and you can see the divide between old and new. The day I visited there was no one else, so it just felt like you could explore through the courtyards, the mazes all leading out spectacular views of the summer palace and the countryside, for awhile. There is a small museum with only one original relic - the rest restored and kept in mostly the museum in Baghdad.

Bible study of how God used this once feared nation to change other cultures (countries) by capturing & destroying cities. God wanted His people to turn from idol worship & return to Him.

Mesopotamia Map showing the extent of Mesopotamia. Shown are Washukanni, Nineveh, Hatra, Assur, Nuzi, Palmyra, Mari, Sippar, Babylon, Kish, Nippur, Isin, Lagash, Uruk, Charax Spasinu and Ur, from north to south. A modern satellite view of Mesopotamia. The cultures of Mesopotamia are considered civilizations because their people: had writing, had settled communities in the form of villages, planted their own food, had domesticated animals, and had different orders of workers.

Having visited the ruins myself, I think there is some serious work that needs to be done in order to reconstruct, and save the ruins from various sources of destruction, such as: weather, thieves, and most importantly, time. The place is great though, you are seeing thousands-of-years structures with a ridiculous attention to details. You can get lost in the beauty and the grandness of the ruins as you walk inside them. I think the ruins are an amazing site and I definitely recommend visiting them.
