(Translated by Google) He combined the enormity of the building, the subtlety of the industry, and the diversity of decorations, so it deserved to be described as a pure architectural masterpiece, which is the Sultan Hassan Mosque in the Citadel area in ancient Egypt, which is the pride of ancient Islamic architecture. The buildings of Cairo and Islam, and deserves to be in the first place for Arab architecture thanks to its high dome, the height of its minaret, the greatness of its breadth, the grandeur and the abundance of its decorations. ”The Moroccan traveler“ Al-Wortlani ”described it as“ a mosque that has no second place in Egypt or any other country in the splendor of the building and its splendor. Al-Maqrizi described it as "no Muslim temple is known to replicate this mosque in the Islamic lands." Sultan Hassan As for Sultan Hassan, he is one of the most prominent of the Mamluk sultans, who is Al-Nasir Hassan bin Al-Sultan, Al-Malik Al-Nasir Muhammad bin Al-Sultan Al-Malik Al-Mansur Qalawun, and the nineteenth king of Egypt is considered one of the Turkish Mamelukes, and your seventh of the children of Al-Nasir Muhammad your son Qalawun, took the Sultanate twice, one of them in 748 AH and your age At that time, he was 13 years old, then he took over again in 755 AH after being imprisoned for three years. "Hassan" began to act as a true sultan after the tutelage period ended and he reached the age of adulthood, but after a few months, a scene occurred that was frequently repeated in the Mamluk era, which is the princes' struggle for power, and he was arrested and removed from power and imprisoned, and the installation of his brother, Saleh, who was called the king Al-Saleh Salah Al-Din Saleh, and soon the war broke out again and the princes also deposed him and decided to return Sultan Hassan, and this time he returned strong, after he became a young man with experience in conflict matters at this early age. Historians described him as a firm, majestic, and courageous king, who possessed a powerful word. He did not use alcohol and did not commit apparent immorality. This beautiful mosque is 700 years old. Built by Sultan Hassan around 1360AD. The Sultan unfortunately was murdered by his army commander before it was finished. It is a beautiful piece of architecture, that is associated with the Mamluk period. It is open between 8am and 4.30pm. It would be wise to take a guide who knows his way around, than to fall prey to hustlers who will show you around and ask for a tip. I was surprised to see them within the mosque premises. There is a place to keep your shoes, for a tip of course! Wear thick socks as the floors are cold and hard on your feet. Carry a water bottle and wear clothes that cover your legs. For women, a scarf over your head, would be nice. It is not necessary, but would act as a mark of respect.

Massive mosque built in the 14 C. It used to be the largest mosque in the world at that time. It was so massive that some rebel emirs used it as a fortress from where they attacked Cairo Citadel, located on top of the next cliff. In 1500, Mameluke Sultan Janbalat, anticipating another rebel attack from the mosque, ordered it demolished; however, after three days of unsuccessful demolition attempts on the mosque's southeastern (Citadel-facing) walls, he was forced to give up. In 1517, the very last Mamluk sultan, Tumanbay, took refuge inside the mosque in an attempt to evade capture by the victorious Ottoman army as it took control of Cairo, resulting in the Ottomans bombarding the mosque with cannonballs from the Citadel. These demolition attempts, however, drew criticism from Cairo's population, which subsequently pressured authorities into repairing damages. It is challenging to figure out how this construction impressed the people after inauguration, back in 1363. It is also believed that limestone from the Pyramids of Giza was quarried for use in the mosque's construction. The mosque hosts four Islamic schools (madrassas) and accommodation for their students. There’s a shoes wardrobe at the entrance where the visitors can leave their shoes before visiting the mosque. It’s OK to tip the shoes keeper with 5 Egyptian Pounds for the service. A few kittens were playing around while I was removing my shoes.

Looks quite imposing from the outside. The city and courtyard is hot and dusty. You pay 80 egp to enter and once you get into the building its at least 3 to 4 degrees cooler and very peaceful! High ceilings and some impressive architecture. Highly recommend a visit.

Great mosque and there is a great The pulpit and qibla of Sultan Hassan Mosque The mosque and school of Sultan Hassan in Cairo is the most harmonious monument of Cairo, and represents the stage of maturity of Mamluk architecture. The building consists of a mosque and a madrasa for each of the four schools of thought (Shafi’i, Hanafi, Maliki, and Hanbali).

A man of the market give me a tour of this mosque. What stood out to me were the alabaster pillars. It's very large and forms a perimeter with a bare ground courtyard in the midle. There is some gold in the design as well, I'm told 18k. The lights and fans distract from the design, and do not compliment it. The doorways are amazing! There are however some Arabic design low hanging lights that do compliment the design. I tried to capture those. The Koran design in the ceiling is neat. If you are into mosques, this is for you. If you're not, this won't be worth your time.

(Translated by Google) Sultan Hassan School in the Citadel Square - Architectural pearls decorating the 100 EGP . ♥ ️🌍 It is located on the Citadel Street, and a relic is registered under the number 133, and it is the most beautiful building ever built in Islam. Student residences and also to be a mosque, with an area of 7906 square meters, and a height of 37.70 meters, and it is one of the most luxurious and highest entrances. The shape of the mosque is difficult to determine, and we can say that it is polygonal. It is 150 meters long, 68 meters wide, and 37.30 meters high at its north gate. And in the middle of the courtyard of the mosque is a beautiful ablution topped by a dome - and on the sides of the courtyard are four iwans, the largest of which is the eastern iwan in which the qibla is located. once the largest mosque in the world, it is still impressive after 700 years. The best part of the mosque is the Madrassa and the four enormous arches beneath which four schools of Sunni Islam are taught. If you visit one mosque in Cairo, visit this one. you'll not regret it.

The architecture of the place is magnificent. It has a long old history. Even Obama visited it before. It has small corridors then you enter a huge center which makes you feel the majesty of God. It used to be a school for the four Islamic doctrines. Yet, the government needs to take care of it a bit more.

Beautiful mosque and architecture. Please be aware that there is entrance fee of 80 Egyptian dollars for adults and 40 for students. I felt although this is an archaeological place there should be no charge for Muslims coming to offer prayers. Nevertheless I piad the money and Prayed jumma at the mosque and was amazing. Very close to Citadel. There are also tombs in the mosque which is open to public. The complex has two different mosques close to one another.

This is a must see on any tour of old Islamic Cairo. The mosque itself is a gem of a place to visit. If you can ask your tour guide to see if he can arrange a reading of the prayers inside sultan Hassan burial room. The acoustics are amazing to listen to the prayers.

After visiting the mosque for like nearly ten times through the past four years, I can say it is at the top three three mosques in Egypt as If you are ever searching for inner peace, this is for sure the place to visit and it is absolutely for free, you can feel the greatness at every inch of the mosque and praying in Ramadan is just another level It is for sure a must visit place while visiting Egypt

Majestic structure with picturesque design, built across it Rifa'i mosque also with magnificent depiction. But last time i visited it, was too crowded with bulk amounts of human, a bit difficult to perform prayer properly. But overall, such a pleasurable moments been there.
