The Dubai Museum is based on the Al Fahidi Fort (built by the British in 1817) in the 70s of the twentieth century. The museum is not as magnificent and massive as the countries in the West, but it still fully recreates the rise of the Arab inhabitants to be what it is today. Stepping through the museum gate, you will see the first image of the Al Banoush boat - a vehicle carrying people and goods downstream on the Dubai Creek connecting to the Persian Gulf. Next to that boat, a traditional Arab house made from wood and palm leaves. Ahead is a well of water, which is considered a lifesaver of a desert. However, the most impressive in this museum is probably Al Fahidi Fort. Built by the prince Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al-Maktoum (1912 - 1990), Al Fahidi Fort used to be a stronghold of the Emiratis in the fight against aggression. After many renovations, in 1971 this place officially became a historical museum

The iconic Dubai Creek area is the home to our museum, was developed as part of an initiative to transform the creek into a regional culture and traditional centre. Shindagha Museum tells the universal tale of human innovation, resilience, and the desire for progress which shaped the Dubai of nowadays.

Wasn't worth the trip over to check it out. Everything is fake old (or seems to be). If you're in the area it is worth a walk around but otherwise I would skip it and just learn about it from you tube videos.

The heritage of the people of this land is restored here in about 20 buildings with many displays…. Historical, poetry, handicrafts, fishing and pearl farming are all here. Foods from around the world. Nearby port and merchants and spice markets…. It’s basically the heart of Dubai. We dined in a Nepali restaurant 😊

This is where dubai started it’s humble beginning. Fishing and pearls diving as the primary source of revenue, it became tax free heaven for merchants who used dubai as their import export hub, attracting merchants from all over the world. It’s nice to see this place as its past glory is preserved well while dubai became a metropolis. Town planners here did a wonderful job.

Very calm and beautiful place....The Heritage Village was created in 1997 in Al Shindagha Historical Neighborhood in Dubai, close to the Diving Village, to embrace the heritage events and to display a live image of the old traditional life in UAE. It represents the components of wild, marine, and mountain life, where the visitor can identify closely the old traditional customs of the country and the special characteristics of old houses, handicrafts, patterns, and forms of living. It is owned and managed by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. Working hours at Dubai Heritage Village are Sunday to Thursday, 8:00- 22:00, Friday and Saturday from 3:00 to 22:00.

Serene. A quick fix of stillness from the busy city. Best in the afternoon during colder months. I was in awe watching the camel and its baby thought they are bound it seems that they are well taken care of. A nice walk from the heritage village to Al Seef then walk back to metro. It’s soothing.

A lot of museum clusters : pottery, poetry, history, perfumery, faith and religion, and many more. The outside area is super hot in June-August. But inside each museum section, it has air-con, even in the public toilet. Can be reached by metro green line and get off at Al Ghubaiba station.

Beauty of Old Dubai. A good place for photography. The boats on the seaside adds to the beautiful skyline. The angled positioning of the buildings creates mini gullies. Beautiful at night with all the lights that come to life in the dark.

It’s where everything started. It’s the soul of Dubai. It’s where art is made. That place is the real sense of the old Dubai where you can enjoy the small ally’s and the beautiful small buildings or houses . It feels so real and down to earth . And the markets around are all what you might be looking for from textiles to trailers and nice authentic Indian street food .

This is a famous place for the history of the culture of the people of Dubai. Their business starts in the water by going for fishing and in search of pearls from oyster , which they traded. The Emirats also engaged in the building of different kinds of boats like Abra and different nets to catch . They also engaged in diving, and they can stay in the sea for 3 to 4 months before returning to their families and homes. This place is an eye opener on how things were done in the olden days. A very place where kids can visit to learn about the UAE economic culture

This is where Dubai's humble beginnings began. The main sources of income were fishing and pearl diving, and as Dubai served as its import and export hub, it attracted traders from all over the world. It's good to view this location because Dubai became a metropolis while its former splendor was kept nicely. The town planners here performed a fantastic job.

Rich Cultural Experience at Al Sindhaga Historic District Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) Review: I recently had the opportunity to explore the Al Sindhaga Historic District, and it proved to be a captivating glimpse into Dubai's rich cultural heritage. The district offers a unique and immersive experience, showcasing the history and traditions of the region. One of the highlights of the Al Sindhaga Historic District is its architectural beauty. The traditional buildings, with their intricate designs and charming facades, transport visitors back in time. Walking through the narrow streets and alleyways, one can truly appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into constructing these structures. The district is home to several museums and cultural sites that provide a deeper understanding of Dubai's history. Places such as the Dubai Museum and the Heritage House offer fascinating insights into the city's past, showcasing artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays. Exploring these sites allows visitors to gain a greater appreciation for the cultural significance of the area. Al Sindhaga Historic District also boasts a vibrant atmosphere, with bustling souks and local markets. These markets offer a variety of traditional goods, including textiles, spices, and handicrafts. The lively ambiance, combined with the aroma of local delicacies, creates a sensory experience that truly immerses visitors in the local culture. While the district offers a rich cultural experience, there are a few areas that could be improved. Some of the buildings and sites could benefit from better signage and information boards, as it can be challenging to navigate and understand the significance of each location without proper guidance. Additionally, during peak tourist seasons, the district can get crowded, which might detract from the overall experience. In conclusion, Al Sindhaga Historic District is a must-visit destination for those seeking to delve into Dubai's cultural heritage. With its stunning architecture, informative museums, bustling markets, and vibrant atmosphere, it offers a captivating glimpse into the city's past. While there are areas for improvement, the district provides an enriching experience that is well worth exploring.

As a professor in ancient Gulf history, I found the Al-Shindagha Historic District a true 'pearl' in modern museology. Using the historical houses as a museum setting is already an added value to enhance a museum experience. However, it is especially the high quality and accessibly of the exhibitions that are worth mentioning. In the 'Culture of the Sea' museum, the museologists effortlessly succeeded in explaining the geomorphology of the Gulf, a highly specialised topic, on a broad audience level. The explicatory panels were at the highest international standards: not a single typo, copyright references to each photo. The museums contain a balanced mix of visuals (videos) and historical objects to make it interesting for everybody (children-adults, professionals-tourists). As for the archaeology museum, rather than displaying as much shiny finding as possible, the Suraq al-Hadid archaeological site was deliberately taken as case study to tell comprehensive and accessible story about Dubai's ancient past. Bold choice, but once again it paid off. Objects were cleaned for display with the most modern non-invasive restoration techniques. truly impressive. A place I would recommend to all students. Staff, guides and museum guards were very friendly and helpful guiding me to the next museum house in the labyrinth of small alleys. In sum, if you visit Dubai, give the al-Shindagha district half a day of your time and it will be time well spent!

Love walking through here at night on my keeping vaguely fit circuit - and tonight for the first time - I walked heading towards infinity bridge rather than away from it… And I found a car museum made specifically for me, featuring my two favorite classic cars, an old series 2 Land Rover and an old merc. To think I’ve walked past this 50 times and never knew…. Beautiful Landy!

Located on the Marina Mall Island close to the city centre, the traditional oasis village offers a glimpse at Abu Dhabi’s past. Here you can shop, discover artefacts and watch artisans make pottery, blow glass and weave fabric on a loom. The village is also home to the Emirates Heritage Club, which hosts workshops for traditional crafts. You can watch craftsmen demonstrate traditional skills such as metalwork, pottery, weaving and spinning yarn. They may even let you try your hand at their trade too. Don’t forget to check out the village’s little spice shop, which offers a range of dried herbs, handmade soaps and plenty of souvenirs to take home to family and friends.

Experience the traditional way of life in the emirate at The Dubai Heritage Village. Established in 1997, the attraction preserves a sense of the old Dubai through life-size reconstructions of stone buildings and tents laid out in a traditional village setting. A range of demonstrations and exhibits introduce you to numerous aspects of the cultural heritage of the region. Discover the ancient agricultural methods used by inhabitants of the region, traditional medical practices, and techniques used to make handicrafts, such as pots, jewelry, and whistles. Pick up some interesting souvenirs at the onsite shops selling pottery, sweets, and other traditional items.

Not a must visit, but pleasant. The development is going on so museum is planning to open over 20 pavilions. Even though there are very few artifacts they managed to make museum interesting. I deeply respect variety of interactive solutions and high tech gently added to museum. A lot of cats around museum make the place twice better.

Surrounded by the older architecture of Dubai. Most building are recreations. There is a small number of restored buildings. Definitely come here with a guide who can also take you to the surrounding gold, spice and general markets. There is a sharp contrast in terms of the feeling of this part of Dubai and the rest of this ultra modern city.
