Mixed feelings about The Rake at Admiral Maltings. Let's do the positives first. - Great selection of beer - Extremely warm and helpful staff - Nice overall vibe to relax with a few friends and lots of drinks Now for the negatives...well, there was only one negative albeit a rather large one. Their BBQ is awful. Not one single BBQ order was decent. The salads were better than the meat, and the tater tots were decent, but we didn't finish any of the plates we ordered. I would recommend eating somewhere else and then coming here for drinks.

Admiral Maltings doesn’t actually make beer, but at their adjacent pub/taproom, The Rake, they serve a variety of beers that have been made with their handcrafted malt. The Rake has plenty of shady outdoor seating, safely protected from the parking lot to keep your kids corralled while you’re sipping on a pint and some of the best pretzels around. We’ve seen many parents there with their kiddos at lunch on the weekends. The beer menu changes frequently, featuring different brews made from their malted grain. If you get a chance though, try their sours—they are a personal favorite.

Great selection of food and beverage for every palate. The pretzel was great! 🥨 They’re dog friendly too. 🐶

This place is is a pretty random area but... the building is a cool place to chill with a beer. Loads of outside seating. A nice menu. Clean bathrooms. The parking is under construction right now which only means good things for this little section of Alameda. They have two really great stouts and some pretty good little snacks. It's a warehouse but has an intimate vibe. Apparently they also offer tours on Sundays to learn about what you can watch happening from the windows inside! I should have asked more questions...

Live near by and have been here several times and they usually have at least 5 to 6 beers in my comfort zone. They have a limited food menu which includes a few appetizers and I really like the pickled quail eggs. Inside and outside seating is available, and they offer tours on Wednesday evenings.

I was very exciting about this place, and I love to support local business. The staffs are friendly and giving us a beer sample, and I can test the freshness of the beer. One of the biggest con are the foods, normally the brewery should have delivery a great food goes along with the great 🍺 beer. I order pull pork sandwich and tater tots, and tater tots is not crispy at all, tastes like it’s soaked in the water. I had to return it. The staff is nice enough to let us return it. Again, come here for good beer, but make sure you had a decent food before you come.

A true hand pulled English Bitter! Plus an excellent bratwurst on a bakery quality roll. Served on their sunny outdoor dining area. Brings me back to my cycling tours in Britain. Well done. Carry on.

Awesome Place. So much better than the Garbage Brewery called Almanac next door. Unlike the Almanac this place has a much more varied selection of alcoholic drinks. Friendly Staff. Awesome Malt Headmaster. Compared to the greasy food truck options of the almanac this place has great food and a full kitchen. Will be back again!

I would return for the beer but not the food. The tater tots were not crispy or hot and tasted as though they were made hours ahead of time. Also ordered the brisket sandwich which came with chips and a pickle. The brisket was tender but didn’t taste like it was seasoned at all. The sandwich had spinach, red onion, peppers, an orange sauce and was a bit odd. The flavors didn’t go well with the brisket and left me wishing there was barbecue sauce and a more traditional BBQ flavor profile. The service was friendly, prompt and welcoming. Loved the atmosphere, plenty of outdoor seating at colorful picnic tables and a fair amount of indoor seating as well. We arrived on a Sunday around 3pm, lots of places to sit. Kid friendly, there were lots of families with babies or school age children.

Excellent food, friendly service and of course great beers. Really nice staff, they let me plug in my electric scooter! Pulled pork plate was very good! Went back a couple weeks later for the tour, very cool! You gotta check it out.

Good pub food, great beer, and awesome.ambiance. Everything about this place is worth the visit. Limited menu, but the three different things we ordered were all great.

Awesome place, good seating options, and whoever is curating their beer list knows their stuff. The vibe is way more chill than their sort of chaotic neighbors. Food is also excellent. Hoping that they do a brined chicken or fried chicken sandwich (but the chicken salad sandwich is amazing anyway) Mad props to the staff, they the best.

You come for the beer but are knocked out by the food! Of course, they have a great selection of beers, including ones that are made with their special malt. There are a couple of breweries in the area so it might be difficult making your decision on which one to visit. The Rake is definitely worth a stop. There is plenty of outdoor seating (good for COVID times) and hand sanitizer on each table. The staff wipe it down between every customer too. It's right next to Almanac so it's kind of like a mini beer row. But let's get to the food. Make sure to get the pretzel. It's warm and delicious and served with cheese AND malt butter. I have never tried malt butter before and now I want it on every carb I can get my hands on. We also tried the mac and cheese (excellent) and salad (meh, but who orders salad at a beer place?) The staff are also super sweet and entertaining. It's a great place to visit on a beautiful day.

The Rake is my go-to spot whenever I'm in Alameda. The beer selection is always top notch, the food is great and the staff are always helpful.

Beer was phenomenal however the bbq plate was the most underwhelming bbq plate I’ve ever had for $27 you should get more than 4oz of sliced tri tip with two small cups of sides

This place is a little less crazy than Almanac next door. Seating is at picnic benches with plenty of umbrellas for shade. Decent food selection - I like the bratwurst (hotdog) which is a good size and ok price compared to the large expensive burgers next door at Scolaris.

Nice place, great staff and they definitely have a good beer selection. It's a good place to bring a party of adult friends. However there might be a small wait for food if you make a big order But the Bbq and tri-tip are totally worth the wait.

5 Star beer, 10 Stars even. Literally every single beer we had was absolutely delicious. 3 Star food though, it did the job but was kinda disappointing. Chips were stale, and everything else was either kinda plain or tasted kinda off. Get lunch/brunch, then come here and you'll have an awesome day

Beer and food was superb, had an Alluvium with tasty bean and rice bowl (with avocado and kimchi, the salsa was real flavorful) along with a delicious soft warm pretzel. The pickled cabbage and chips that came with the hotdog were a delightful combination, I was surprised at how good the sharp flavor n crunch went together.

I always wondered why the neighbors are always packed and these guys aren’t. So we decided to give them a shot. So clearly not a brewery, but you can’t hold that against them. Service was a bit odd, not very friendly, and I’ll leave it there. Beer was great, no issues whatsoever. The food wasn’t much to aspire for. And I’m comparing to other spots that offer pub food. I’d be willing to give them another shot, but probably won’t order food. The beer was good and the outdoor seating area was nice.

Beautiful brewery within walking distance from the port. Excellent food. Couldn't try the beer because I was at work but it looks amazing. They even have giant area to sprout grain.
