I could drink their HK milk tea all day...Continuing my desultory review of all the restaurants on Valley Boulevard ( i should live so long) i stopped off here for breakfast while getting my brakes done at Tommy's. I loved the menu -- one of the things I love most about LA is having so many interesting options. This is a Cantonese café, i think, with many specialties that i wouldn't consider typical breakfast food -- similar to the giraffe cafe in Berlin, i say for cover. I got the omelet, hash brown and pineapple roll . Omelet was done with machine like precision, hash brown was just like McDonald's (maybe less crisp) and pineapple roll was tasty, the slab of butter inside was so think at first I mistook for a slab of white cheddar. I turned the sweet butter into a schmear and enjoyed it early. Along with the milk tea. The service was outstanding and friendly, i was only haole, and I'm building up my confidence to have the pork shoulder and crab congee the next time I'm here

I am so bummed about our experience at the Garden Cafe recently because I used to love going there a few years back. First, they took about 15 minutes or so just to acknowledge us at the table and take our drink order. When the food was finally brought to our table, the order was wrong. The employee told us as he brought the dish that the cook had gotten confused and asked if it was okay for us to keep it. We felt bad and didn't want to waste food, so we kept it. The chow mein (wrong order) was actually not bad, but the shrimp fried rice and the curry were so disappointing! The shrimp fried rice had almost no flavor at all; it tasted as if we had ordered white rice with minimal shrimps sprinkled around. I was so bummed out because I remember the shrimp fried rice was my favorite from there. The chicken curry was not very good either, it had so much skin hanging around. I've never had curry with that much skin in it. We tried to order a banana split at the end because you can't mess up a banana split, but a worker angrily said no. The waitress then told us they did not have any bananas. Overall, the quality of this restaurant has diminished greatly and we will definitely not be going back. My husband wanted to give it one star, but for old time's sake, I'll give it two.

11-27-21: Came here for lunch and ordered a bunch of noodles! Beef Chow fun was pretty good. Chinese pan fried chow mein was very tasty. Singapore noodles were also very good. Also ordered a few vegetable dishes that were cooked very well! Overall, the noodles are great. Traditional Cantonese style cooking. Would definitely come back again for more noodles!

Pandemic visit: (menus depicted are from June) Indoor dining available; seating is *mostly* separated, some tables weren't separated enough in my opinion. Dinner was busy but not overly crowded; I didn't have to wait to get a table. Service was decent (only 1 waiter). The food is consistently good. They are sometimes able to make custom dishes that aren't on the menu for me. 3 adults, the bill somehow came out to over $100 for 3 main dishes and 2 drinks. I wish I knew what expensive dishes the other 2 people had but mine was low priced by menu standards. Depicted is the Thai basil chicken with rice and egg.

The Hong Kong style breakfast sets are tasty and portions are just right. The taste is just right for me, not too salty or too bland. The food quality is always very consistent. Prices have been creeping up just like other places. They are understaffed so service is a hit and miss, mostly a miss or just OK. There is a parking structure available. I always like their German Pork Knuckle #56, braised Ox Tongue stew #37, beef stew & won ton lo mein #162, smelt roe & seafood fried rice #224, club sandwich #88, New Zealand rack of lamb #28 and #31 combination grilled lamb rack, chicken steak, pork chop, beef tenderloin and sausage. There is also a kids menu as well, high chairs are also available upon request. The menu is very extensive with a wide array of western dishes with Asian twists to Cantonese Chinese food.

I came to this place because of a friend's recommendation. I ordered the chicken steak with black pepper sauce. The chicken was tender, moist, and super delicious. It had a thin layer of crispy skin that went very well with the moist meat. I would definitely come back and have the meal again. And, did it mention the portion was huge and the milk tea was tasty as well.

I'm a regular customer here and I’ve always enjoy dining here. However, something unpleasant happened last week that left me quite dissatisfied. Just as I finished my meal and handed them my bank card to settle the bill, they informed me that their card reader was not working and they could only accept cash payments. Unfortunately, I had only brought my bank card, phone, and keys with me that day and had no cash on hand. I asked if I could use an online banking service like Zelle to transfer the payment to them right there, but they refused and insisted on cash payment. They suggested I find a nearby bank to withdraw cash and I agreed, but then they asked me to leave something as collateral. This angered me because it was clearly their issue with the card reader, so why were they asking me to leave something as collateral? They even requested that I leave my ID with them. All this fuss over a $20 lunch bill.

Big varieties on the menu. There is so much selection to choose from. Great food, good service. Just don't understand why they automatically charge 18% tips on the bill. That was the downfall. If you order steak or pork or chicken steak, it's a wait time. Other dishes are quick. They also have a kids menu.

Overall tasty food with good service, friendly staff and a typical HK style restaurant atmosphere. We had the dishes with steak, chicken steak, and pork trotter which were all pretty good. The milk tea was kinda mid, although i felt the food is better at this location than the Arcadia one.

We love this place!!!!! I have been here since my childhood and they never disappoint. Such a cozy atmosphere for family dining. Their menu selection is HUGE and there's always something that will fit the taste of everyone in your party. On top of that, the price is so affordable wow! I highly recommend any of the fried rice (pick your favorite one but mine is the Fu-chow fried rice 😋). Veggies, soup, and all the classic Canto/Chinese dishes yum!

Came during Christmas and the wait to be seated was pretty quick since we only had two people seating. Our order took forever to come out if you're expecting to get great service you won't really find that here. Got ignored a couple times when I wanted to order which was very displeasing despite them seeing my hand up and having eye contact. Some workers said they'll get someone but they never came back.

Related Hong Kong Cafe type place. Like 300 different dishes to choose from. The pasta with shrimp and Scallop was delicious, especially if you don't like cheese. It is creamy with lots of umami and the Scallop cooked well...shrimp Marinated. Mmmm. The pork belly dish was delicious but super duper fatty. The veggies underneath (cabbage and pickled mustard greens) soaked up all the goodness but it was really fatty. The prices are a little higher now ~$17 for each of these dishes but I still really enjoyed it. The pacing of the food being brought out is weird though. We finished the pasta before the pork got brought out.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Everyone in that restaurant was rude to us the moment we sat down. Extremely dismissive to even the smallest request, like asking for some chopsticks. Even when we told them they got our order wrong, they tried to gaslight us. Let just say the food was not great. My cousins ordered their stakes medium well, and it came out looking only seared for a very thin piece of meat. At the end of the dinner, they tried to rush and clean our table only to spill food on my sister. We couldn't even walk out of there without a waitress pushing through us just because she was on her phone. Will not ever recommend.

I mostly go to garden cafe for breakfast because they have some very good porridge/congee. It is served in a clay pot so it stays hot longer. Perfect for the cold winter mornings. I've also tried their all day menu but it seems it's not always available in the mornings. The chicken steak with ground beef and sunny side-up egg on top of fried rice was a lot of food for 1 person but I managed to finish it.

Decently priced (for LA) good tasting HK style food. Good place to eat as long as you're not trying to be a health guru. Not gourmet so don't expect Gordon Ramsey level food and service either. Just good standard HK food.

Comfort food and open late. Consistently good comfort food with a large menu. Arguably too large of a menu but so far, all of the food has tasted great. Service is always good as they are attentive and prompt.

Under $15 for a decent HK style breakfast set.
