Mercat Central makes it fun to do the groceries. We go almost daily, everything is fresh and local. There are many kiosks to chose from and we now have our favourites where helpful merchants offer a friendly service. Be attentive to prices as some have way higher prices than others for the same products (especially in the produce section). This market is however not a tourist trap, many locals and restaurateurs buy their food here!

Bustling with life, the central market of Alicante sells everything that the port town offers - from whole Iberico Ham Legs, the largest of sea produce, and the freshest of vegetables and fruits. We had freshly squeezed fruit juice for only a couple of Euros - the storeowner just walked over to the fruit store, picked out the fruits, and juiced it then and there for us. 🍊🍉🥭 There were Christmas carolers just outside the beautiful building, which really made for such a beautiful atmosphere. It definitely isn't winter wonderland, but it's a beautiful place to spend the Christmas in for sure ☀️😎

Popular market hall. Lots of locals around. Fish, meat, veg, bakeries. Wander around, taste and then go get a drink in one of the surrounding cervecerias. Mainly catered for people doing groceries.

Love this place in Allicante, great variety of fruits , vegetables and of course spannish meats. Little English is spoken but the locals really love helping with your Spanish so it's a fantastic place for getting a feel for local Allicante life😍

Kind of meat, fish, veg and fruit market. Great choice of everything that is fresh. It is very expensive but you are paying for high quality food. I have never seen better asparagus than in this place. As a British tourist I was very impressed and end up going there every 3 days.Again the prices are very high. There's no fish on Mondays and it's closed on Sundays. Beware of the locals they tend to jump the queue a lot but some stands use tickets numbers so be vigilant otherwise you end up waiting your turn for ages. Importantly most fish sellers are honest and gave me change back because i made lots of mistakes using the euros.

You must visit Mercado in every single country. You can taste all the country has to offer in one small area. The best food, the best wine, the best sweets. It is a must when visiting every city in Spain.

The food there is so good and such great quality!! We bought dates, wine, ham etc. and the people were really friendly. We were able to try most of the things we wanted to buy.

A big city central market with great produce, greengrocers, butchers, fishmongers and very busy with locals and tourists. Seems that every Spanish city has one like this and they are brilliant. Just wish I could buy more and cook it locally. Accessible with lifts and ramps.

A great place to wile away a couple of hours when the weather is a bit poor. All of stallholders are very proud of their offerings. Meat, seafood, cold meats, preserves, fruit, vegetables, plants and lots more besides, including cafes, bars and cake stalls.

Nice market. Not quiteas large as some others who have better looking and more vendors in their market. But here the souvenir shops have not taken over The fish and seafood and meat selection is great. Recommend if you are in the area. Not worth a special trip.

It's always a great idea to go to the markets they have such a variety of foods not just meats and cheeses but also cafes, sweets and a bit of everything. The staff there all seem really friendly although there can be a lot of people there. Well worth a visit!

Abundance of fresh fish and meats. I've seen some huge fish over here. Also a few bars inside but not really serving food at the market, which is a shame

Fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruits. Good prices, interesting atmosphere. The building looks very nice from outside.

Big market, which has special parts for fish, sea-products, fruits & vegetables, cheese, meat products and jamon. Prices for fish and sea-food are higher, than in the markets. But, it is interesting to see what kind of fish and sea-products possible to eat. Fruits are better and cheaper. 4-stars just because of prices.

The best place to buy food in Alicante!!! Fresh vegetables and fruits. Seafood area is amazing!! Extremely recommended!! There is an elevator from the park on -1 floor

A must visit when in the city of Alicante. Don’t get lured in by people trying to get you to their restaurant. Just go to this market and FEAST. Yes, feast. For the price you pay for a normal lunch in a cheap place in Alicante you can get a feast in the central market. Cured ham (like 10 varieties of it), sausages (around 10 also), cheeses (do I need to keep this on?), all in here is absolutely great. You can easily leave with 500g of food for less than 15 euro. And it is top quality. Best of the best

  • 5/5 Ginny L. 4 years ago on Google
Amazing food hall with authentic Spanish meats and seafood!! There are a few tapas bars within the markets which opens even after most of the stalls close! Went back here for lunch twice; very inexpensive and had fresh food!

  • 5/5 MDC D. 5 years ago on Google
I have never been to a market where every stall is outstanding. The meat section has a huge selection of dry aged beef, young lamb, pork fed on chest nuts corn fed poultry, rabbits, chacuteries and ofal. The seafood and greens are downstairs and for me held little allure. We spent around €50 and ended up with a lot of meat, now if I only had a BBQ. 🙄

(Translated by Google) Typical food market that you can find in any city. The one in Alicante has a history, as it was bombed during the Spanish Civil War, on May 25. A fascist attack where more than 400 people died. In one of the entrances you can see the clock that marks the time of the disaster, while on the other of the main doors, which overlooks the Plaza de las Flores, there is a plaque honoring the victims. In the central market you will find meat and fish stalls, as well as fruit and vegetables. Everything fresh and of quality.

Fantastic to explore, fantastic to shop, great selections, great prices. It's a must in Alicante. Do yourself a favor and also learn some history like how the building survived 300 Italian bombs, the story of the clock at the entrance, and the memorial upstairs outside the market. There's always more than meets the eye.

I saw a lot of locals shopping there. The market is a two floor market in which the first floor is meat and the second floor is seafood and fruit. They have a variety of seafood. I recommend you buy some shrimp or fish. The Crab I bought was not asfresh and juicy as I expected. It is a very good market anyway.

Great food market in centre of Alicante. Meat, seafood, fruit, vegetables all top notch, & at a fraction of what they would cost in Ireland, if even available. Would definitely recommend a visit, if you're staying in self catering accommodation. Great chance to practise your Spanish too!

This is the place to go to buy great fish meats fresh baked goods etc. It's huge and lots to choose from. The only place that is walking distance if you are in the center . Otherwise to go to the supermarket you have to drive 10 minutes. Only other options are the express markets . Loved it !

  • 5/5 Cedric 2 years ago on Google
Great traditional market in Alicante with amazing fish mongers. You will find anything you want there for fish / seafood. No point to go to a supermarket. On other floor you will also have all the meat sellers.

  • 4/5 Letame 2 years ago on Google
You can find barely everything there. Fresh meat, cheese and fish downstairs also vegetables and fruits and dried fruit. There is also a big market that sells bathroom things and beauty stuff. In front of it there is a nice square with flowers shops and a bar where you can eat tapas, that's also inside the Mercado!!

  • 5/5 Olav C. 2 years ago on Google
What a discovery. This market can easily compete with the ones in Barcelona and Valencia. The assortment is amazing and the prices normal and not for tourists. I am sure we will make this a weekly trip

It was not as stunning as some of the other Markets we have visited in Spain (Barcelona, Seville). About 40% of the stalls were shuddered. Maybe we hit it on an off day. It is two levels. There are bathrooms and they were clean.

Fantastic food market in the heart of Alicante. Head here for an authentic atmosphere and to buy some of the best food products of Spain. There's also a selection of small, friendly sit-by restaurants on the edges of the market.

  • 4/5 Sharon A. 1 year ago on Google
This was open 7.30am until 2.30pm, Monday to Saturday. Unfortunately, due to only being in Alicante Saturday to Monday, we were only able to get there after checkout on Monday, about 12.30pm. By this time there were only a few stalls still open, so it definitely should be an earlier excursion. There is a meat floor, a fish and fruit and vegetable floor, and flowers outside.

I love to visit the local markets when I go to a new town and see what the locals buy, and shop like a local. This market certainly didn't disappoint. Great tapas and wine at local prices. Well worth a visit.

This is a must go place for those who love going to local markets. I really enjoyed seeing seeing a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood and processed meat and sausages. A bit touristic but I see a lot of locals also shop here. We can really get a glimpse of local products, and this market is centrally located, so it is easy to reach.

  • 5/5 Goffredo di R. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice Market. Developed on different levels. Meat, fish, vegetables and fruits, probably the freshest you can get. There are several bars there as well. Good luck to choose the butcher or the fish shop!

  • 4/5 CJ 1 year ago on Google
The city's biggest market. Lower/ basement level is for fruits and vegetables, and seafood..meaning a lot of meat products (unfortunately). Prices were varying for oranges ex . between 1-2 €/ kg. I had a better experience of freshness and prices in the city's largest open air/flee market (Mercadillo de Teulada). It is large, but certainly not a jaw dropping experience.

A lovely place to visit in Alicante. Now with trendy little bars for drinks and food. I concur with the positive comments about the architecture. I love the little Hermes sculpture / statue at the rear door which I've put another photograph up of. The Meat and especially Fish sections are not for the faint-hearted. Wonderful for fresh vegetables

A terrific traditional Spanish market. It is very clean and tidy. The selection of produce is fantastic, there are do many fish, meat and vegetable stalls, carrying such a wide and varied selection of fresh goods. The fish stalls are fantastic. This market is very central.

  • 5/5 Aaron H. 5 months ago on Google
The Central Market is awesome! Mainly meat upstairs and fish downstairs, with a few tapas bars on both floors. There are also public toilets here. I went late on Saturday afternoon and the shops were starting to pack away and the tapas bars were very busy. I really wanted to try a tapas bar but it was too busy for someone who doesn't speak Spanish. I will try again earlier in the day and on a weekday.

A beautiful building houses the fresh-market with loads of things to see and taste. I could have spent hours there. Be sure to get a taste of jamón ibérico and manchego cheese and I’m sure there were hundreds of other delights to try. Meat and cheeses are upstairs and seafood downstairs!
