Huge, gigantic and not sure how should I describe it. Felt blessed to visit such monument in this era. Nicely maintained. An hour trip is sufficient to discover this place which also has a ancient museum.

It's second largest dome in the world after St Peter's Basilica. This building / monument is an finest example of applied physics.A true Marvel . Be there early to avoid crowds. Better to hire a guide to visit and to get proper explanation of monument. At first climbing 100+ steep steps looks like a challenge, but it's not in reality. There are places to rest at every level. Good and huge lawns outside for relaxing.

A precious gift from our brave predecessor! Its an alarming structure that puts hundreds of wonders in maths, science, architect, civil engineering, sound engineering and so on. How did they calculated its arithmetic? Its a wonderful experience to watc it from out, in and standing over its balcony. Visitors do make noise and enjoy its echo. Its open at 7 am and close at 6 pm. Rs 25 is charged as entrance fee. Steps are hundreds in numbers and climbing and experiencing at least once in life is worthy experience. I🙏 to our great ancestors 🙏🙏🙏

Really an amazing architecture. The dome size has no match. One of the biggest in India. It has total of 7 levels which can be climbed. But little tough to come down as stairs are very steep. But it is a really good experience.

Beautiful monument!! Amazing to see such a huge dome, standing tall, with extremely large and wide walls, without any center pillers. Great architecture!!. Unfortunate, name of architect is unknown. It's a tomb of Mohammad Adil Shah of Adil Shahi dynasty who ruled bijapur in 17 century. The whispering gallery is amazing. It is recorded that, even the smallest whisper can be heard anywhere in the gallery and it reflects 7 times. We could not experience the intricate features as other visitors were making loud and irritating noises, which gets reflected multiple times in the gallery and becomes unbearable noise altogether.

First most important thing. This place is open from Sunrise till sunset and not what Google says. The best time to visit this place is at 6 am because then you can really experience the multiple echo and the clarity to hear the whisper even at a distance of 37mts. These two effects are mind blowing and must be experienced. During the day time visitors scream and yell and one goes mad by the noise level. Please visit early morning and the experience is amazing.

Gol Gumbaz During our family tour to ‘Bijapur’ in Karnataka, we visited first to the world famous tomb of Adil Shah ‘Gol Gumbaz’ in ‘Bijapur’. This dome is considered as the second largest in the world and the central huge dome stands without any pillar support; it’s really an amazing thing! There are 4 octagonal towers at every corner of the monument. It is well connected with steps on both sides. On top floor there is a whispering gallery, after whispering in this gallery we were shocked to hear our echo sound 7 times. Do not miss to visit this gallery. ‘Gol Gumbaz’ is surrounded by a beautiful & well-maintained green garden compound that houses a few other attractions like a mosque & an Archaeological Museum. Entry Tickets charges: Indian Visitors:- Rs.25, Foreigner visitors:- Rs.300, Archaeological Museum Entry charges:- Rs.05 and Parking charges Rs.50 for car. The best time to visit ‘Gol Gumbaz’ is from the months of October till the end of February as the climate remains pleasant at that time. If you’re an architecture lover, you are surely going to have the best time here, after visiting it you’ll fall in love with the place automatically. You will require at least 1 hour exploring this beautiful place.

The great gol gumbuz, say one repeats several times a great technology of that time people. Gol Gumbaz at Vijayapura is the mausoleum of king Muhammad Adil Shah, Adil Shah Dynasty. Construction of the tomb, located in Vijayapura , Karnataka, India, was started in 1626 and completed in 1656. The name is based on Gola gummata derived from Gol Gombadh meaning "circular dome". It follows the style of Indo-Islamic architecture. Even a slight whisper by someone standing in its gallery can be heard everywhere else in the gallery, and if somebody claps, the sound of it echoes several times. The structure is composed of a cube, 47.5 m (156 ft) on each side, capped by a roof 44 m (144 ft) in external diameter. Eight intersecting arches created by two rotated squares that create interlocking pendentives support the dome. At each of the four corners of the cube, is a dome-capped octagonal tower seven stories high with a staircase inside. The upper floor of each tower opens on to a round gallery which surrounds the dome. The dome is one of the largest domes constructed before the modern era. Inside the mausoleum, hall is a polygonal podium, with steps on each side. In the middle of the podium, a cenotaph slab on the ground marks the actual grave below, "the only instance of this practice" in the architecture of the Deccan sultanates. In the middle of the north side, "a large semi-octagonal bay" protrudes out. With an area of 1,700 m2 (18,000 sq ft), the mausoleum has one of the biggest single chamber spaces in the world. Running around the inside of the dome is the whispering gallery where even the softest sound can be heard on the other side of the mausoleum due to the acoustics of the space. There is a museum within the complex. The museum was established during British rule in 1892.

This beautiful structure built in 17th century is very grand and reflects the richness of the kings to build something like this to preserve their own dead bodies. Architecture is beautiful without any pillars as huge central dome weight is carried by stone arches and an acoustic wonder where echo of the sounds reverberates for such a long time. Outer Minarets on all the four directions are designed with window style arches and on the top with colourful miniature domes is aesthetic to the eyes reflecting the peace for the dead.

A must visit place if you are in Bijapur. If you're a fan of architecture and Marvel over ancient structures, this is a must visit. A true testament of the rich knowledge that our ancestors were blessed with. Suggestion to get a guide who can clearly explain the real stories and meanings behind the architecture and make you understand that it is not a mere sound reflecting building.

It's one of the finest architecture marvels. It's must visit place in Bijapur. Well maintained, with sufficient parking, other facilities. The whispering gallery has a narrow steep stairs climb and not suitable for elderly.

Nobody to control the crowd that keeps running around indecently. They only charge you money for entrance and after you enter, you're on your own. There's drinking water tap in the entrance and no other drinking water facility inside. Better to carry your own water.. you need to climb stairs to the whispering gallery. Each step is almost 2 feet tall. You get so tired climbing and there's no facility for basic drinking water. If there's an emergency in the whispering gallery, there's no quick way out as the stairs that lead to the ground floor are still big and very narrow. You can't even carry babies in the narrow passage ways, forget carrying an adult if there's an emergency. Whispering gallery has become screaming gallery. You'll definitely come back with a headache.

Gol Gumbaz disappoints on multiple fronts – from poorly maintained surroundings to lackluster exhibition displays. The interior lacks proper lighting, making it difficult to appreciate the historical artifacts. Additionally, the ticket prices seem exorbitant given the subpar experience, leaving visitors questioning the value for money. Overall, a visit to Gol Gumbaz might leave you with more frustration than awe.

This is a magical monument. You feel amazed by its magnificent structure. Its whispering gallery is unique and rarest in the whole world. District administration need to put efforts for enhancing the visitors experience. Better amenities are required. But you won't get disappointed in anyways as this monument mesmerizes and makes you to forget everything else. Visit atleast once in lifetime. Try to find a time when very few people are there in whispering gallery and sing out loudly. You feel great.

Gol Gumbaz counts among the finest examples of Deccan Indo-Islamic architectural style. The colossal structure is made out of dark grey basalt. It reaches up to 51 meters in height while the giant dome has an external diameter of 44 meters, making it one of the largest domes ever built. Four dome-capped towers adorn the edifice on four sides. Each of these towers is seven stories high and has a staircase built inside it. A square podium with an intricately carved wooden canopy exists inside the main mausoleum hall. The cenotaph slab in the middle of the podium marks the location of the actual tomb of the Sultan, in the ground below. The mausoleum hall boasts of an area 18000 sq. ft., which marks it as one of the world’s largest single-chamber spaces. An interesting feature of Gol Gumbaz is that a whispering gallery runs around the dome’s inner periphery. Any sound made here gets echoed at least seven times or more. When you are inside the whispering gallery, you can hear even the softest of sounds from the other side of the monument. This phenomenon is attributed to the impressive acoustics of the structure. Another impressive aspect of this structure is that there are no towers or pillars that provide support to the huge dome, which is an architectural marvel in itself. The dome, on the other hand, is held by eight intersecting arches from the inside.

Glorious and mighty structure standing firm in the test of time over decades. It’s so beautiful here when you actually visualise it right in front of you. Gol Gumbaz has its own piece of story you all ought to hear it when you visit there. Also visit the museum which costs just ₹5 for entry and it’s a lot to know and gain knowledge from it 🙌🏽 5 stars for the ASI for neat maintenance.

Nice place World's second largest dome construction India's biggest dome, bigger than Tajmahal. However crowd is making too much noise here. Some control measures must be put. The whispering gallery becomes noisy place. Does not create good image, specially in front of external tourists.

If echos so nicely inside the monument it’s a wondering fact how it would have been done. Lawns and monument have been maintained very well

This marvel of architecture has withstood the test of time with a lesson for history and architecture buffs. The most famous monument in Vijaypura, this is the 2nd largest unsupported dome in the world right after St. Peter's Basilica. If that is not enough of a feat, take a walk up to the whispering gallery. It's a 108 stair steep climb across 7 floors... Saat Manzili...through the minarets. The architecture is Indo saracenic. Once you reach the top, you can enter the dome. Our guide, Mr. Sridhar led us to the benches in the dome. If you sit at one end of the dome and whisper, the person at the other end... across 44m can hear it clearly! Any clapping or loud sound produces an echo 8 to 12 times over. Commissioned by the patron of arts and music, Mohammad Adil Shah, this monument is a must visit!

Place very close to my heart ❤️ as the memories keep rushing through whenever I visit it. Best time to visit is early morning hours as the crowd will be very minimal. You need to buy ticket of 25rs to visit inside Gumbaz. Singers can sit and sing a song as the echostic gives a different clarity to the tune.

The Gol Gumbaz is an impressive architectural marvel located in Bijapur, India. Its massive dome, considered the second-largest in the world, is a stunning sight to behold. Inside, the acoustics are remarkable, with whispers echoing around the circular gallery. Visitors also appreciate the intricate Islamic architecture and the panoramic views from the top. However, some reviewers mention that the interior could benefit from better maintenance, and the surrounding area might be lacking in amenities for tourists. Overall, it's a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts.

It is great monumental masterpiece with various aspects. It will be always great to visit these place to understand the great work done in the past. The suggestion is to avoid weekends due to rush hour and always double check to buy the tickets for both museum and the Gol Gumbaz. A place worth visit due to availability and maintenance of lawn to rest and enjoy the visit. I would recommend this place to anyone. Please make you do not take anything edible which is not allowed inside.

  • 5/5 Sudheer N. 3 years ago on Google
The engineering marvel. I am astonished. But also am not happy with the security arrangement. There was no social distancing nor Noise control foud for allowing proper visitors to enjoy the whispering for which the place is famous. Hope someone takes a note of same and enforce the rules strictly both for betterment of the monument as well as for safety of proper visitors.

Beautiful historic monument.... physical exertion will be there as need to climb 5 to 6 floors to reach the dome. Steps also are uneven and too large. Small narrow passage of stairs makes it difficult for children, old age ppl and hefty people to climb and get down from the dome. But at each floor there is a large open area with bench where you can rest before proceeding. Saying all this Its worth the efforts. Absolutely stunning monument. We can feel echo 3-4 times now and not 7 times as was previously. There is a museum also which visitors can visit There is fee of Rs25 for adults and children below 12 can visit for free.

About Gol Gumbaz " The Gol Gumbaz situated in Vijaypura about two kilometres from the city of Bijapur. It is one of the most intricate and noteworthy sphere-shaped architectural structures in the world. The entrance welcomes you with an interesting object called the 'bijlipathar' – a meteorite that is believed to protect the stone from lightning as it descended over the place during the Sultan’s reign. The tomb is a massive dice capped with a semicircular dome. The whole building is fitted on a 600 feet podium. The dome is the second largest in the world, with a distance of almost 600 feet in diameter, in close competition to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. It is one of the largest single chambers in the world with gorgeous petals covering the drum carved at its base. The walls have built-in staircases lead to the seven-story octagonal tower. The place is famous for its “Whispering Gallery”, an acoustic phenomenon located on the eight-story. It has been fashioned in a way that one can even hear the softest tick of a watch across a distance of about 37 metres within the massive dome. An admirable piece of civil engineering, this surprising reverb arrangement echoes any sound for about eleven times.

It had a great structure but personally feel not maintained properly. It was a little crowded. Horse-rickshaw rides were available outside its premises if anyone interested. After stepping 7 floors which had very steep steps, there is a dome shaped structure where your voice echoes. But you hardly can notice it if it is crowded as everyone is shouting at the same time and it becomes too noisy.

Buy tickets online by scanning QR code because you can save 5 bucks per ticket. Best time to visit- Go early morning or visit post afternoon because reasons are many, so do follow it up. Do visit museum, it's amazing. Feel the calmness and cool atmosphere inside Gol Gumbaz. While climbing up, do stop over each circle floor and capture the monument. After seeing museum while you enter to see Gol Gumbaz try to capture photos of monument as much as possible. Read about it and visit, I'll truly appreciate the architectural marvel.

Gol Gumbaz is the crypt of Mohammed Adil Shah, who was the Sultan of Bijapur. He was the seventh ruler of Adil Shah Dynasty. This magnificent monument was constructed by the architect Yaqut of Dabul, in the year 1656. The monument derives its name from "Gola Gummata" or "Gol Gombadh", which mean a "circular dome". Constructed as per the Deccan architecture, Gol Gumbaz is one of the most significant monuments of India located in the state of Karnataka. The grand structure of the monument is composed of a cube on each side, which is capped by a dome in external diameter. Inside the gigantic dome, "whispering gallery" runs around. These are named so because even the slightest of the sound can be heard on the other side due to the acoustics of the space. The construction of Gol Gumbaz started in the year 1626, and it took about a span of thirty years to complete its structure. It is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India

Gol Gumbaz is the Tomb of the King Mohammed Adil Shah. Located in Bijapur. Most famous monument in Vijayapura. It is maintained by archaeological Survey of India. There is a whispering gallery and we can enter into the top of that. It is very amazing and well maintained. Whispering gallery is an amazing experience. We can go to the top of the tomb. View from there is a very good.

Amazing construction. Unfortunately the museum is closed on Friday. Government should think about it. Let it open for all the days as the people who travel from long distance will benefited.

  • 5/5 Mariam S. 1 year ago on Google
Very beautiful and amazing acoustics. Well maintained lawns, good for morning and evening walks. The monument is inside and a marvel to experience the acoustics. Best to visit early morning to be able to hear even the tiniest whisper across the dome. Later on, it gets crowded and can't enjoy the the experience. 108 steep steps to climb on top. Beautiful view of entire city of Bijapur from there.

  • 4/5 Avinash B. 1 year ago on Google
It’s a great monument to the cowrie century the early morning! Magnificent sunrise from the top of the monument. The sound travel when the public cacophony is least in early morning 6am is worth experiencing. The area has ample space for parking. Nov-Dec are the best months to visit.

  • 4/5 Aishwarya R. 1 year ago on Google
An beautiful structure with a long history and is a must visit location if you're in Bijapur. If there isn't much of a crowd, it echoes very loudly inside the monument, therefore it's best to arrive early. It is open every day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Very good upkeep has been done on the lawns, the garden area, the museum, and the parking (which costs ₹50 without a time restriction). Entry fee is ₹25 per person. If you want a thorough explanation of the monument's history, it is preferable to hire a guide. At first glance, climbing seven flights of approximately 100+ steep steps seems very difficult, however there are rest areas at each level. The perspective and experience of this place is quite incredible.

  • 4/5 Asmita M. 10 months ago on Google
One has to climb five floors to go inside the round dome. The stairs are also very steep. When you reach the top, your voice echoes whatever you say. The construction is also very attractive. In front of the round dome is the museum.

  • 4/5 Girish k. 10 months ago on Google
Everything went smoothly that day be it purchasing tickets for gumbaz or the museum (which is very cheap) moreover the maintenance of museum is exceptionally well but while climbing the gumbaz some hooligans have scribbled over the walls .

  • 5/5 Deepak G. 10 months ago on Google
Magnificent and extremely well maintained periodically by different rulers. I don't even see a single crack or defect in the structure. Great structure and architecture.

  • 5/5 Pratik K. 11 months ago on Google
The place is beautifully maintained, also known as black taj of South India. It has 5 graves of royal family as you enter the gol gumbaz main structure and for whisper gallery you need to climb around 7 stories high and it's mesmerising to see how can a beautiful architecture was built long long years ago. It's the largest dome in the world with out any support of columns. It's said that if there's absolute silence and you make a single noice the echoes are echoed 7 times. To have a very quite and silence experience one must visit early morning, less crowd good experience. There's also museum where you can find some of the old stuffs.

  • 5/5 Saurabh 9 months ago on Google
Massive monument and an architectural feat. The whispering gallery on the 9 floor is a climb up a flight of stairs, not recommended for the elderly or someone with knee problem. The view from the top of the entire bijapur skyline and looking down at enthralling. The whispering gallery may not be enjoyable for some due to the over enthusiastic youngsters who probably need to be groomed on how to behave in public places. The top floor and the minarets up stairs and down stairs are so windy during July that they can literally throw you off balance.

  • 5/5 Jagadish l. 9 months ago on Google
Awesome historical place Gol Gumbaz is the most famous monument in Vijayapura. It is the tomb of Mohammed Adil Shah (ruled 1627–1657). It is the second largest dome ever built, next in size only to St Peter's Basilica in Rome. A particular attraction in this monument is the central chamber, where every sound is echoed seven times.

  • 5/5 ganesh n. 5 months ago on Google
Gol Gumbaz, a stunning architectural marvel, stands as one of India's largest domes. Its construction is remarkable for its pillar-less interior. Few important observations: Opens at 6am. Closed at 5:30 pm Ticket cost is ₹25. Camera charge ₹25.

  • 5/5 Ankan B. 6 months ago on Google
Nice place with historical significance. Plenty of parking available. Tickets to the monument can be bought online or through the kiosk or even by scanning QR code on the spot Does get crowded so try to go early

  • 5/5 Abhishek l. 7 months ago on Google
It was a mesmerizing experience regarding the whispering hall, awesome architecture, un-explainable building style, especially the tomb on the roof is wonderful though it is a tomb of Adilshah and his family we have a wonderful monument at its peak. The surroundings are well maintained with a greenery area. Overall a most memorable day.

  • 5/5 Neesat A. 5 months ago on Google
Gol Gumbaz is an imposing mausoleum that displays the architectural brilliance of the bygone eras. It houses the remains of Mohammad Adil Shah, seventh sultan of the Adil Shahi dynasty, and some of his relatives. Its vast dome is said to be the Second Largest Dome, unsupported by pillars, in the world, after St. Peter’s in the Vatican City of Rome.It is constructed in such a way that even a pin drop can be heard distinctly from across a space of 38 m, in the Whispering Gallery. The acoustics here are such that any sound made is said to be repeated 10 times over. The stairs to reach the whispering gallery are extremely narrow and it is completely dark inside it. Be extra cautious while coming down as the surfaces of the steps are uneven and quite steep. Entry with bags are not permitted here. A cloak room is available beside the ticket counter. With an additional fee of Rs 20 you can drop your bags there.

It was a very very spectacular ancient monument. 2nd largest dome in the world. You can only feel the beauty of this monument by visiting only. A must visit place I recommend..

  • 5/5 Yashaswini H. 7 months ago on Google
A very good place to visit and learn about history. You need to climb 150 steps approximately to get to the top of gol gumbaz. This is little difficult for old age people but it is recommended for others to try it. The architecture is so beautiful and the top floor is built in such a way where it echoes 7 times every time you speak with higher decibel. Apart from that, there is a beautiful museum at the entrance of gol gumbaz which is a must visit. This museum will be closed on Friday so plan accordingly. A great place to take your kids and teach them history practically showing them.

  • 5/5 Varsha S. 6 months ago on Google
The place is so so bful with the elegance of history. Don't forget to visit it early in the morning if you want to enjoy its whispering gallery at most. It has a museum also which u can also visit.

  • 5/5 Amit K. 4 months ago on Google
One of the most fascinating structures you will come across if you chose to climb a narrow 2 feet wide, pretty steep staircase going 7 floors up. Once there, you are inside the hollow gumbaz and it's huge inside. The hollow gumbaz also makes for a whispering gallery with a loud echo of the faintest sound. You can effectively chat with a person sitting on the other end of the gumbaz as if they were sitting next to you. Worth the climb even though it may feel dangerous and claustrophobic at times.

  • 5/5 Anu B. 3 months ago on Google • 42 reviews New
Must visit. To enjoy the great monument, to enjoy its echoing capabilities, it's recommended to go very early like 6.30 AM - 7.30 AM when people are less, because later in the day, everybody will be shouting with loud voices to hear the echo, finally they end up creating chaos and nobody can hear any echo ! Go for a guide, it will be worth it to understand the history of gol gumbaz and certain interesting details which are explained by showing the monument. I bet you don't observe those intricacies unless told by someone.
