The construction is impressive even though it isn't complete. This 12-story building was never completed because of the death of the monarch, but given its strong foundation, it presumably would have been taller than Gol Gumbaz. a beautiful location for photos. There is no entrance price, but there are no parking places, which is complete confusion and disorder due to the outside traffic. According to a common story explaining the failure of "Bara Kaman," the "Gol Gumbaz" may be hidden by the shadows of "Bara Kaman." The size and beauty of the Bara Kaman edifice that was planned mesmerised us. The most remarkable structure with in landmark of "Bijapur" would have been Bara Kaman had it been built to completion. One of best creation of Adil Shahi dynasty. Best time to visit in the morning.

Every beautiful thing has a little tragedy like Bara Kaman where Adil Shah’s journey ended before he could complete this beautiful monument monument.

Despite being incomplete, the structure is nonetheless remarkable. Due to the ruler's death, the construction of this 12-storey structure was never finished which probably would have surpassed the height of Gol Gumbaz due to its sturdy base. A great location to take pics. There are no parking spaces which is absolutely chaos and disorderly due to the prevailing traffic outside, but there is no entry fee.

Incomplete arch structure but impressive nonetheless. This was supposed to be a 12 storey building with the capability to be higher than gol gumbaz thanks to it's better foundation but was never completed because the ruler died. Good place to click some pictures.

An unfinished monument. If finished, it was supposed to be bigger than gol gumbaz. There is nothing much to see except the arches which are partially destroyed.

Almost in the centre of the city, and to the north-west of the citadel, is a large square building, roofless and with unfinished arches in dark basalt. This is the tomb of Ali Adil Shah II (1656-72). Probably begun on his accession to the throne in 1656 and intended to rival Gol Gumbaz, the tomb of his father, Muhammad Adil Shah. The building was conceived on a magnificent scale but was destined never to be completed. The platform is 20 feet high. This great elevated basement, on which the arches of this unfinished structure stand, is 215 feet square, while that of the Gol Gumbaz is 158 feet square. In the centre, on a raised platform, are the tomb stones of Ali Adil Shah II and some of his family members, the graves being in the crypt below, which is entered by a door on the east side. The whole structure with the lofty basement would, if it had been completed, have been a most graceful monument in Vijayapura.

Incomplete but still awe imposing! This structure was designed to be 12 arches each standing 12 storey tall - probably would have looked something like the Colosseum! It would have cast it's shade on the Gol Gumbaz. The structure could not be completed as the ruler having it built, died. Open till 5.40 pm on weekdays. Did not find Parking area for the structure. No entry fee here.

1672 AD was the time when Bara kaman work was commenced by Adil Shah II, Bara Kaman is an unfinished structure situated. As the name indicates Bara (12) which was supposed to have mausoleum of 12 beautiful arches vertical and horizontal surrounding the mausoleum of king Ali and his wives However, the mausoleum and the arches were left unfinished as Adil Shah II was murdered by his own father and the construction of Bara Kaman was left incomplete as he did not want Bara Kaman to lessen the architectural marvel of Gol Gumbaz Historical place like Bara Kaman always enriches you with knowledge and our history has so much to offer us Just stunned by how it was constructed in 1672 AD Must visit here

Beautiful structure but couldn't be completed as the ruler died before completion of this structure. It would have been a beautiful structure had it been completed. No parking charges and no entry fees to this monument.

It would have been better if there were cloakrooms and cleanly maintained washrooms in this area. Otherwise, it's good for photo shoots.

An unfinished project that is based on barah (12) kaman (arches). If finished, this would likely have been a base for a much larger structure (some kind of palace) on top. The arches are free standing, as they used to be in those days, without concrete.

Bara Kamanu fails to impress with its dilapidated structures and lack of proper upkeep. The site appears abandoned, showcasing neglect rather than historical charm. Poor signage adds to the confusion, leaving visitors disoriented and frustrated. It's a regrettable destination, as the historical potential is overshadowed by inadequate maintenance and a disappointing overall atmosphere.

(Translated by Google) Ali Adil Shah of the Adil Shahi Dynasty wanted to build an unparalleled architectural tomb. It was planned to place twelve arches vertically and horizontally around Ali Adil Shah's tomb. However, the structure work remains unfinished for unknown reasons: only two arches were raised vertically. Rumor has it that the tomb's construction has been stopped once its shadow hits the Goal Gombez. The remains of twelve arches that have been placed horizontally in the recent past can still be seen. This is quite an "inaccessible" archaeological site in a way - it just exists. There is no place nearby to park a four-wheeler, the place looks abandoned except for a couple of security guards, photography with a professional camera (DSLR/SLR/P&S) isn't allowed but mobile photography is, and I could find no plaques from the ASI to help me understand what I was looking at. Very confusing. Baara Kamaan (12 arches) is the incomplete tomb of Ali Adil Shah II. The pity of it all is that his tomb (and those of his wife etc.) is actually on the unfinished site, making the whole place seem more and more like an abandoned ghost house.

When visiting Bijapur, make sure to explore its rich heritage sites, including the famous attractions. Understanding the history behind these sites, especially the intriguing story of the incomplete structure, enhances the experience. While parking facilities may be limited and somewhat dizzying, they are manageable, given the relatively low number of visitors to these sites."

This Monument called Bara Kaman ( 12 arches ) is the unfinished mausoleum of Ali Adil Shah II and is situated in the heart of the town inside a crowded lane so can be missed easily. There is no entry fee to view this monument . Parking is somewhat difficult to find because of less space in front of it. The structure was supposed to have twelve arches vertically and horizontally surrounding the mausoleum of the king Ali and his wives. However as the history says, the mausoleum and the arches were left unfinished as Adil Shah II was murdered by his own father and the construction of Bara Kaman was left incomplete as he did not want Bara Kaman to lessen the architectural marvel of Gol Gumbaz.

Small monument - near the main market in Vijayapura ( Bijapur) . Makes for excellent photos and is a calm and serene place . Make sure you get in early morning or early evening so you get good pictures . Parking near the monument is very less and difficult , given it is the middle of a T junction and narrow roads - safer to park on the main road near the auto rickshaw stand and walk to this place .

A grand edifice meant to be the mausoleum ofAli Adil Shah II and the women of his family , was left incomplete . What we see now are impressive arches standing on a raised platform . The place is quite picturesque . The construction was undertaken in 17th Century. The monument is well worth visiting. But, sadly , the approach road is very congested and filthy . And no car parking space nearby .

Ali Adil Shah of the Adil Shahi dynasty wanted to build a mausoleum of unmatched architectural quality. It was planned that twelve arches would be placed vertically as well as horizontally surrounding the tomb of Ali Adil Shah. However, for unknown reasons the work on the structure was left incomplete: only two arches were raised vertically. Rumour has it that the construction of the mausoleum was stopped because once completed its shadow would touch the Gol Gombaz. Nowadays the remains of the twelve horizontally placed arches can still be seen.

It is unfinished, yes, but the beauty of this place lies in it being unfinished, it is up to interpretation and speculation what and how would it have looked like if it had been built, and it was supposed to be the burial mausoleum for the king Ali Adil Shah II and his wives. The incomplete structure inspires the heart as to how it would have been. how would it have looked, if it was completed for real.
