A small but no less interesting museum. At the time of our visit, the outdoor aspect of this attraction was inaccessible. We visited during the winter season. However, the displays about the local rock art, the Aurora Borealis, predators and the Sami people were fascinating. We would definitely recommend a visit. The car park is quite small, but there is a frequent bus service well within walking distance.

Nice wee museum although still appears to be getting set up downstairs. Worth a visit for great outside views and interesting bomb shelter.

Amazing experience! Historic and great place for a walk and see the Alta Fjord right in front of you! Lots of souvenirs at the shop and a restaurant overlooking the Fjord.

The Museum worths a visit. You can visit two areas with rock carvings some of them painted (that's what they used to do in the 90's) and some not painted. They have plenty of explanations in the guide they provide as part of the ticket price which is very informative. You can also visit a permanent and a temporary exhibition inside the museum. The permanent exhibition has lots of interactive stuff to do with students or kids. The cafè area is also very nice and offers wonderful views of the area. We were lucky to visit it in a lovely sunny day.

Amazing! Seeing cave paintings in loco, testimonies of human genius since prehistoric times, is a unique experience. Furthermore, located in a beautiful cove in the far north of the European continent.

Alta Museum is an absolute gem! Its captivating exhibits on prehistoric rock art and Sami culture are both educational and mesmerizing. The stunning Arctic landscape surrounding the museum adds to the experience. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. A must-visit for anyone interested in Norway's rich heritage!

Extremely friendly and professional staff. They are proud of their work and they know what they are doing! They ask the nationality of the tourist for a statistics purpose, just so you know. They explain well of how to enjoy the museum. They give you fast overview of the contents of the current exhibitions when you buy tickets so that you can enjoy the museum in the fullest extent. The museum is extremely clean and wonderfully curated in terms of its sounds, lights, color, and the organization of contents. Extremely interesting stuff that covers the history of Alta of various industries and various ethnicities. It is rich in content. Must visit if you are into history and society.

Very impressive. It is a must for those who are interested in history , culture and human evolution. The way how all is explained, makes you part of that times. The rocks there are full with history. The museum inside is also interesting because it goes almost to actual period of time. And the cookies at the end are delicious.

Nicely organized walking route outside to see the carvings. Also inside the museum there were interesting exhibitions. And a guide book at your own language, I appreciate.😁 Kept thinking that how exciting it must have been when the local children found those first carvings in the seventies...I wonder what was the first one.. maybe the moose pooping😁

Visiting in winter means that the rock carvings outside are not available to view. However, the museum has a very informative display, with some real examples to see. There are further displays of interest, such as Arctic predators, traditional costume, sporting heroes and historic ways of like. A very enjoyable visit.

The museum consists of a detailed indoor exhibition and the outdoor rock drawings. The drawings are very well presented and it’s quite fun (and hard!) to search them outside in the nice scenery.

Wonderful place - even Winter, when you cannot walking around. Three interesting exhibitions. I love candles, so I bought Sams hand made candle holder.

The museum includes an indoor exhibition of historical local cultures and industries, as well as an outdoor circular route (~1.2 km in length), which goes through the prehistoric rock art that has been discovered in the area via a well-maintained and mostly elevated path. Thousands of rock carvings from between 2000 and 7000 years ago have been registered here, most of which have been superbly preserved on the bedrock. They provide a glimpse into the lives, thoughts and rituals of prehistoric hunter-gatherers as they tried to understand the world around them both physically and spiritually.

Excellent museum. The petroglyph are interesting. The museum does a great job of making sure everything is posted in multiple languages. The walk along the coast is gorgeous.

Very interesting museum of ancient rock carvings. UNESCO world heritage site. Other good displays of animals and clothing. Even have a bomb shelter! Nice gift shop and café. Enjoyed visiting

Really interesting place with much to see. Café is superb, I recommend the coffee and my friend the hot chocolate. Balcony area worth a visit. The exhibitions on the lower floor is worth viewing. You'll find the toilets down there which are clean and modern. I think there's a lift to the lower floor. Shop area good and prices are reasonable for a tourist shop. All speak excellent English.

😠 I ordered 2 pizzas to take away and waited at the counter for them to be ready. After 30 minutes of waiting, I asked if they would take much longer to be ready and the 2 women working there looked behind them and handed me the pizzas which were already sitting there for 15 minutes. They just started...
