Truly amazing Lamb biryani, was sublime. The selection of street cart dishes we ordered were good. The staff were very welcoming and on the ball with the Covid measures, we felt well looked after and safe eating in. The only reason I can't give a 5 star is the value for money, the portion sizes are small with a high price point for the size. I don't doubt we will be back, but not as often as if the price was that little bit more reasonable.

Such an excellent dinning experience! The menu was full of dishes I’d never tried before and I’m excited to try something different with every visit. The Dosa was huge!

All those 20 or so 1* reviews from 29/08/20, are trolls, their attempt to sullied name of this restaurant. You will notice they are from India, I am unconnected to this establishment what can say is I have visited curry houses in over 20 countries this one is one of nicest yet different cuisines, don't expect Ruby curries here, unique flavours to each dish.

I have ordered food from them a few times and was never disappointed. Today I visited them for the first time. A nicely decorated little restaurant with a wonderful service! Really liked the atmosphere. The food was quite good as usual and highly recommended! It's a shame that they dont serve Indian coffee/tea. Suggest the management to try and include that in the menu in the future!!

Honestly this place was heavily over priced. Food was okay, slightly above average, but certainly not worth the over inflated costs. Unfortunately won't return! -- Edit, quite the rude reply from owner. Yes some of my recent ratings were in Portugal due to a holiday (not like that has anything to do with it, bit of a weird personal attack). But i live in Manchester and these prices are way higher than better quality restaurants in pricier areas like city centre, Altrincham, even Hale. Clearly out to price gouge and blame it on cost of living!

Had a quiet Sunday lunch at Amma’s Canteen and we were delighted with the food! Chicken 65 was excellent and a highlight for me personally. Chicken Thoran dosa was fairly good. The chutneys and sambar that accompanied it were excellent. The meat in the Kerala Beef Curry was cooked to perfection. The curry itself, although very tasty, had some room for improvement to add that extra oomph and some more depth of flavour that one would expect in an authentic Nadan Beef Curry. Parotta and Beef is a classic combination, and I absolutely loved the Malabar parotta here, it was served hot and was perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good South Indian cuisine experience in Manchester.

Amma's Restaurant is definitely a place worth visiting if you're in the area. I recently tried some of their menu items and was pleased with the overall experience. The masala vadai was average, but the chicken 65 was absolutely amazing. The lamb biryani was also really excellent, although it's worth noting that it's not a dum biryani. The chicken ghassi had great flavor, and I couldn't get enough of the Malabar porathas - they were really good, and my son loved them too. Finally, the masala dosa was very crispy and tasty. Overall, my only complaint would be that the portions were quite small and the prices were a bit high. However, the high quality of the food made up for this, and I would recommend giving Amma's Restaurant a try if you are in the mood for some great Indian cuisine.

Great food and great service! I went here last week with my wife (obviously taking advantage of EOHO) and staff were friendly and covid safe. Ordered the dosa, Indian pizza, lentil doughnuts and lamb curry. All delicious, wish I could have had more and will definitely go back again one day Insha'Allah. P. S I heard about the fake 1 star reviews on this place and it sickened me. But made me want to write this honest glowing review.

Some of the best Indian food I’ve ever had - the chilli paneer was incredible, so order that if you can! 90% of the menu is gluten free which is always a bonus find. The staff were all lovely and very attentive and they had lots of safety measures in place for Covid too. I’ll be rushing back and telling all my friends about this place.

In my top two restaurants in Chorlton. The manager is so nice as are all the staff. I know they have had to do seriously long hours over the Eat Out period and having been this evening I have seen for myself how busy it can be. I hope some of these people who have come during this period will continue to support this business when normal prices are resumed. I certainly will. The food is fantastic and there is something for everyone. If you haven't been, please do.

WOW is an understatement, this place is amazing. First time tonight, but it will not be the last. We ordered around 9 different things and was guided through the menu from a very informative waiter and if he couldn't answer any questions we had, he went into the kitchen to seek the answers. If your looking for some authentic cooking made with the upmost care and attention then this is the place for you. Another thing that made it better was, the chef come out to ask if we were enjoying our food and that kind of thing goes along way.

We have been to Amma’s canteen many times with our children. Authentic Indian food with unique dishes. My kids favourite are chilli paneer and karuveppillai eral (curry leaves prawn). Their Milagu kozhi and kari kulambu are are our favourites. The lamb just melt in mouth and reminds mom’s cooking as the name of the restaurant sounds and brings back memories of hometown. Oh and their parottas... so fluffy, flaky and soft!

Love the food and the owner is very friendly. Better than the other South Indian places by a mile. Reduced menu at the moment during lockdown however their menu is SO TASTY. When I've eaten inside, they've had good service and explained items on the menu I hadn't heard of.

Solid, authentic South Indian food. We had the Dosa, Chicken 65 and Allephey Fish Curry. The fish was slightly too fishy for me but that might be a personal preference.

One of (if not THE) best Indian restaurants in Manchester. The street cart section of the menu is ace, but by our reckoning the best thing going is the Kari Kulambu. Incredibly tender lamb, in a sauce that is so packed full of flavour it boggles the mind. And a nice fluffy poratha on the side! The guys here work so hard and are so passionate about their food, and it really shows. Not you standard sauce mixes, hand crafted deliciousness! Would highly recommend. Get to Amma's folks!!!

Have been here twice here recently after being recommend by a friend. Menu is different to your typical Indian as has a lot of different dishes on offer and a lot of vegetarian and vegan too which is great. Food is so tasty the sauce is unreal! Staff are lovely, can tell it’s a small business as they all care so much about your experience. Would 100% recommend to all.

Hyped place. Food was okayish. I have had better Dosa & vada tbf in Manchester. It's unjustifiably pricey. Edit - Wow! Are you from India, mate? If you are, then I must say you are incredibly rude being one. Anyway, let me tell you a few things- we were three people, one was my 4 year old son. We went to your restaurant for the first time so before spending exorbitantly, we wanted to taste. Standard approach. We didn't like the food as much to order more. Period. £8 ,£18 or £1800 , doesn't matter dude/dudette! Have you heard of Indian Tiffin Room? Located in the city center but Dosa cheaper than yours and much better than yours. Bhaji Pala- Dosa is just a £5.45.... taste is authentic south Indian. Chit-o-Chaat- Dosa is £8 and brilliant. I did not want to take names to compare you to others but if you insult me don't be under the impression that I will take it. I come from a country where we say ' Atithi Devo Bhava'. Assuming you are from my country, I am in a bit of a shock. Best wishes to you & your restaurant.

Had as a take away, thoroughly reccomend! One of the best Indians I've ever had! Really stands out from the miriad of standard "chicken tikka masala and a naan" curry houses around Chorlton. Some really delicious street food influenced dishes!

Went there last night, we really enjoyed the chilli paneer and the beef sukka. The malabar porathas were great too - very different from porathas I've had at other places. The desserts were also quite different and delicious. There's loads of interesting stuff on the menu that we didn't have chance to try so we will definitely go back!

Unfortunately food is not authentic at all - caters to western palettes, which is probably the restaurant's target market and totally fair enough. Bizarre fusion creations especially the lumpy, gooey uttapam. All dishes over-laden with way too much ghee!. The waiting staff look hapless and service is chaotic. On the plus side. the chutneys were tasty.

Lovely, good quality food. Excellent, friendly service. We have eaten in and taken out and would recommend both options. Amma's Canteen has real character. The owners appear to really care about the food, which is based on the home cooked food eaten in Southern India and this is obvious when you taste it. Highly recommended.

First time at the Amma's Canteen and won't be my last. Not the run of the mill indian restaurant. Food was brilliant, the waitress was helpful, efficient and welcoming. To everyone who wants to explore authentic Kerala Foods such Malabar Porrotta and Nadan beef curry better stay away from this canteen. and if you are from Tamilnadu You may like it as it's more of their style cooking with Kerala Names. You will get the malabar poratta in "Thattu dosa " size and the beef god knows from where the chef learned the recipe for Kerala beef curry. It's a heads up for all malayalis who wanted to bring back their memories with porotta beef combo. please don't ruin your memories. I just did and will never do it again.

I had such a wonderful experience at Ammas canteen today. It is South Indian food at its best. The staff r so friendly and experience was amazing. It is totally authentic food. This is not the first time I have eaten here but each time experience has been first class. A family run restaurant with such classic food & taste is such a pleasure to go to. I would say all people in Manchester who enjoy good food should go there. Will never be disappointed. We had a fantastic family meal this evening. We are all vegan and there are so many options, all of which were delicious. The staff could not have been friendlier and they even offered to make us a slightly milder curry when we asked for extra water because the kids were finding it quite spicy. Amazing, welcoming attitude in a lovely, cosy environment. Cannot recommend highly enough.

The food is AMAZING. I don't know how the chef copes with the huge range of dishes, but each dish was beautiful. (we were a large group ordering many different things). I love that vegans, vegetarians and meat-eaters are well catered for with many options. The front of house staff are friendly and professional and our waiter checked dietary requirements/allergies before we ordered. Will definitely go back.

WOW! Top marks for this unique restaurant! The food had different twists from the traditional Indian restaurant food. Each dish was presented beautifully as if in a Michelin Star restaurant. The freshness and quality of the food was of the highest, you could actually taste the love that had gone into the food. Service was exceptional! We felt very looked after by the owners and chef who came to personally greet us and also the waiters, particularly Ksharan, who shone out with his charming qualities, making us smile all night. Parking is easy and the atmosphere is very pleasurable. I can’t wait to go back! 😋🤩😊

A really delightful meal, superb service and real customer care, felt welcomed by all staff but especially Nye, nothing was too much... The food is delicious, the star of the show for me was the stuffed okra although the fried chicken, prawns and vegetable gyoza were very close runners up and I could have easily made my meal up of those 4 dishes for starter, again for main and again for dessert!! I highly recommend this restaurant for quality of food, service and ambience, I'll be back!

We reserved a table for two, table placement was ok but had door behind my back and I felt the draft the whole meal. So our starters were chilli paneer which was very nice, stuffed okra you get 4 pieces, was very disappointing for it was dry. The mango lasi and my beer was up to the mark. The menu is very limited and we ordered a masal dosa and a spinach and red kidney beans dosa. The spinach and beans were very bland no flavour at all with an after taste not pleasant at all. Safe bet was the masala dosa, the potato filling was ok had a burnt taste. The savor was the sambar and the coconut chutney. A bit pricey for what we got. Never been here before but worth a first visit see how you find it.

My girlfriend and I had high expectations when we looked at the menu, read of the spices and ingredients used and placed an order online for delivery. We even called up and the staff member we talked with was incredibly helpful, which gave us even greater reason to expect a great meal. Unfortunately, when it arrived, the level of blandness in the food made old memories of my school dinners seem quite exciting. My girlfriend said that it tasted very salty too. I couldn’t taste the coconut in the coconut rice and the gumfire potato wedges were basically just chips with no spices on them at all. For the money, I was going to complain about what I consider to be the small portion size, but as it happens, this was a blessing in disguise as much got thrown away. I’ll chalk this one up to experience and try somewhere different next time.
