Staff are extremely rude here (Costa Hale Barns Square). If you ask them a question they seem very inconvenienced and grunt a one word response to you. I thought this was a one off however it has happened most times myself or my wife have visited and this is despite our attempts to be friendly with them. It seems as though it is a cultural issue as the red haired male manager also exhibits the same behaviour. Shame as it is our local coffee shop but we have taken the decision to travel further away to buy coffee.

If I could rate this shop a zero I would, I’ve witnessed the staff in this store talk down to customers and laugh behind their backs. The problem is the management, he’s rude and has no people skills and makes women cry which this has been reported to head office but I’m assuming Costa don’t care and will do nothing. I would recommend they all go for customer service training, but I think that may be too late. Avoid this store, drive down the road to the drive thru it even better give your money to an independent coffee shop.

This shop has gone downhill, staff are always sat beside the till and look inconvenienced to have to serve, they never have frostino’s which is a massive let down as my kids love them. Where did the Irish guy go? I won’t be back, the store manager just argues with people and has a massive attitude. Off to Hale for me 😔

The coffee is a joke, it’s just milk, Extremely unfriendly staff, they’re just rude. You place your order, they roll their eyes at you and give huge sighs. There are people who actually want this job, if it’s too difficult for you to serve customers with a smile, find another job and give it to someone who would value it

The quality of the coffee was far inferior to the Timperley branch. Think the barista who made our coffees yesterday needs some refresher training. If you can’t even make a basic latte or cappuccino then there is a problem. We took ‘to go’ and ended up having to pour them away. The latte just looked so pale, too much milk and not enough coffee. The cappuccino was also lacking in flavour. The guy before me returned as no milk had been put in his coffee! Complete waste of money and very disappointed. Less bantz and more focus required.

Absolute joke! Miserable woman who served me. Been here a few times with my kids. Staff are absolutely horrible. This place needs to be closed down. Better off going to another branch. It’s obvious the manager doesn’t actually care about the reputation of this place. Just avoid this place. The quicker it closes down the better tbh.

The worst costa I’ve ever been to. Went in at 16:15 on a Saturday and told they’re not serving any hot food because the ‘oven needs to cool down’ - never heard anything so ridiculous! If you’re opening hours are listed as until 5, you should be serving your whole menu at 16:15, not being rude and dismissive to customers. Staff are just so desperate to get out early on Saturday. They really should just close this one it isn’t doing much business anyway.

Poor experience with a barista who read the order wrong and handed me a take out coffee instead of one to drink in. When informed politely, she said nothing, sighed and shook her head, poured it into a glass and turned her back on me. We all have bad mornings but it was no way to treat a customer. There a better places for a coffee in Hale.

What is it with the staff in this place? I've called in a few times and something is always broken. Today it was the turn of the dishwasher. I asked for a coffee and a brownie to stay and was given it in a take away cup and bag. I mentioned it and was ignored. I asked for a knife and received an Uber sarcastic reply: "there's a sign there that says the dish washer is broke". That came from the arrogant young man with short ginger hair. I've experienced his rudeness and sarcasm a few times now.....still, he's currently busy behind the counter watching videos on his phone whilst there is a queue of people. It's clear the dishwasher isn't broken at all, he just to lazy to collect and clean the used cups and plates.

Today an group work order was put in on the app for 8 coffees and 3 cakes for collection, upon arrival to the coffee shop then to be told upon arrival by Jane that she refuses to do the order. What could we say, the shop had people at the tables and no-one was at the counter waiting to be served. the vileness that can from the women's mouth was disgraceful and not acceptable behavior. Absolutely appalling as a company that this kind of behavior is allowed in "customer experience" the amount of business we put into this one coffee shop all the time, whether this is by single purchases or on the app as a larger order I find this unacceptable.

The staff here do not represent the Costa brand, you need a serious management shift here. They make you feel unwelcome it’s out of order. Get a job away from customers!

Excellent costa. Always happy to go there. Customer service very good.

I was served by a man who was very polite and pleasant, however the woman who made my coffee spoke to me horribly, all because I made the mistake of forgetting to ask for my coffee iced (bare in mind i changed the order before the coffee was made ). £4 for the worst iced latte i’ve ever had, i asked for vanilla syrup but it just tasted like milky water and coffee. To the woman who served me, i hope you see this and sort your head out.

Staff weren't very Friendly, the outside area had cigarette ends and a pile of rubbish just left under the window The standards have dropped dramatically. Why does this happen? It could be a great place

Visited this morning 11th August ‘23, With my parents. The place was very quiet and felt flat! Service was ok, but not warm and friendly as I’d expect from a Costa. Our drinks were automatically served in takeaway cups leaving myself feeling unwelcome to stay! The coffee was ok, but I as a group we all prefer to drink from ‘proper’ cups! I wonder if they didn’t want out of towners lowering the tone?

Echo all the reviews regards the terrible manner of the staff here. Very rude in response to polite conversation with them, really don't know what the issue was. Costa do better! You've hired angry goblins!

I have never left a review before but felt so unhappy with this coffee shop I feel I cannot. I work nearby and many of my colleagues comment on how rude some of the staff are in this shop and have done so for some time. I ordered a click and collect for everyone in work today for lunch which consisted of 7 hot drinks and a few pre made cakes/slices etc. I paid through the app and then 10 minutes later a colleague went to collect. There was no queue and no one else waiting for drinks. The staff however informed my colleague that they were too busy to make the order and refused to do it. They then refused to assist with the refund so I am now having to go through costas online customer service for a refund. I don’t think I need to say much more..speechless!

A really relaxed vibe, friendly and attentive staff. My iced Frappe was well blended which isn't always the case, no lumps of ice in it, and my sausage barm was warmed to perfection.

Very bad they didn’t ask me about takeway or eating inside’s and staff wasn’t friendly.

  • 1/5 Ben V. 11 months ago on Google
Never been inside this Costa but they cancelled my delivery order 7 times in the last 2 weeks. I’ve spoken to Uber eats about this and they said they have had the same reports from other customers.

The iced tea is dairy but they do not allow dogs in while you are eating. There is no notice saying so. This is completely at odds with other coffee places in the area where dogs are welcome. The coffee isn't good either.

Coffee in paper cups, and has been for ages. Get the dishwasher fixed or employ staff to wash up.

Disappointing, disappointing and disappointing. I went to Costa for the first time for breakfast with my family. I live in Costa almost and visit different Costas friending in where I am. This was the first time I was at this branch and I found the service so slow. The lady that was taking my order was very polite but very slow. But most disappointing of all was the breakfast. The egg and mushroom muffin was soft and soggy. The coffee is always good though. Sorry, to give such a low star rating, but please improve the service and sort out the breakfast and I'll be back.
