Excellent bouldering centre, no longer has auto belays so it's purely a bouldering center. I think it's one of the largest in Europe. Check to make sure they're open for general climbing as they have events on that aren't advertised on their website and you'll be turned away at the door. They have a cafe with sandwiches, chocolate bars, pizza etc. Toilets, changing rooms (make/female), a shop with equipment and clothing with knowledgeable staff. There's also water fountains for on the spot drinking or refilling your water bottle. Cool vibe, friendly and professional staff. Very accessible for beginners and plenty of really challenging routes for experienced climbers. Training areas, lockers, plus a new gym area and cool large overhang cave area.

The climbing centre is one of the biggest I've been too, the staff were friendly, helpful and happy to be there. There are many different rooms including gym equipment and a cave. The routes were varied and the whole area was clean and tidy. Very large and plenty of space for many climbers, would highly recommend and will be returning.

Updated review - 2022 (Kids review) I’ve returned to this climbing centre with my 3 year old. We initially went when he was 1.5yrs old and he struggled because they only have vertical walls. They have 2 walls with a load of holds but no obstacle type area. This time he managed to climb to the top on both the areas. The area is small so he lost interest pretty quick. There’s a nice coffee shop at the enternece. And baby changing area if needed.

An absolutely cracking facility. Fully equipped training area, gym area, digital boards of 3 angles, a massive splatter board, a long overhand wall, and then 3 humungous rooms to choose from for bouldering, as well as a comp wall, and a shop, and a café. What more could you ask for? The guys and gals that run the place are a proper safe bunch too. Can get pretty busy at peak times, but for good reason, as you would expect. Can still always get on climbs - makes you actually rest in-between which is a good thing. Prices are bang on for what you get, I get the 10 punch pass card so that I can visit other gyms too to get a variation in climbing while new climbs are set, works out at a good price.

For a city based bouldering gym with THIS MUCH SHEER VARIETY, this place is a steal. Honestly, for £5 a year entry becomes £9 for adults. Unlimited monthly for less than £40. One-off entry at £11.50 iirc. And to top it off? Its a genuinely fantastic bouldering gym with insane route diversity and style diversity, as well as changing and training facilities. I've not tried any other Depot centers, but this one checks out. Impressed.

My daughter absolutely loves her climbing sessions and looks forward to them each week. The staff are very friendly and her instructor is great, giving her thorough instructions helping her confidence grow each week. The lunch menu is good too as is the coffee so always a bonus after a session. Recommend. 👍🏻

One of the best gyms I’ve ever visited. The scale of this gym is unexplainable as it just feels unending. There are 3 rooms of bouldering, 1 no rope lead wall with ramp mats and a training room. The training facilities are marvellous and encompass anything anyone would need to train for climbing: 3 training boards, 2 circuit boards, hangboards, a crack, 3 spray walls of varying angles. Classic weights barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, benches, squat racks and a rowing machine. The comp wall is actually fun unlike some other gyms I’ve visited even with some of the easier boulders which is always nice as I was climbing with someone that was not looking for the hardest climbs. But the hard climbs are just as creative and well set. One of my only issues with the gym is that their highest level (orange) is not that difficult, although this was not an issue for me, if you’re an >8a boulderer, I doubt any boulder in this gym will test your strength (But you can always use their 3 training boards, circuit board or 3 wall spray to do that of course). Another issue is the slab setting that is a little uncomfortable/ injury prone at times, (although that is in the spirit of slab) it does mean the slab walls were visibly not as popular during my visit which I understood when I started climbing their slabs. The staff was very polite and even during peak hour in the afternoon of a weekday they clearly indicated the steps necessary for first timers. The community was sociable, welcoming and positive. Tips for newcomers: - Bring a lock for the lockers/cages - Sign the waiver online beforehand to save some time although it took only 5 mins - There are brushes you just need to look for them, might be a bit of a walk - Do not climb barefoot even for a couple moves, they are quite strict on the rules

Massive bouldering gym, and finally had some Wideboyz cracks in the training room! The training room is big, and it also has a massive overhang/cave thing that's great, especially with the big crash mats that follow you up. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Does good pizza if you need food too. I've had a few private instructor sessions here and they have been really helpful, would recommend. Parking can be an issue when it's busy though. [UPDATE] they added a pink route with a crack in it! I couldn't be more happy! Yeeeeaaahhh!!! Would give them six stars of I could for this

Huge expansive climbing space dedicated to bouldering. Routes are reset frequently so there is always something new to explore. The 1-2-1 lessons were a great help for accelerating my personal development. Dan and the team are super helpful and the community is really supportive. Highly recommend.

Brilliant boldering at the Depot. The staff are always happy to help and its very reasonably priced. The routes are reset regularly and are a good range of difficulties. There are three very big climbing areas, a cave area and a gym with a circuit wall. They serve food and have a nice range of refreshments including fresh ground coffees and cold drinks. There's also shoe hire and a shop for any additional climbing gear in the back including shoes, creams, chalk, Tshirts, ropes, pants and more. Definitely recommend for any climbers nearby of passing through with the time. Keep it up The Depot!!

It's safer and fun than l expected. They have different levels, the entry level is suitable for almost everyone even if you don't have experience. The service staffs were very kind. They provide storage space but you need to bring your own locker. Quite enjoyed it, will definitely visit again. Membership costs £5, and the entry fee will be £9 instead of £11.

This gym has the best training facility of all Manchester, the setting though was really bad. Maybe it’s the holds they use but it was no fun climbing there except for the comp walls. Also very hard to get to. Staff was nice tough.

Great service for a decent price compared to competitors. Also very understanding when I had to cut my membership short due to unexpected relocation. Highly recommend.

Best facility around in terms of variety and quality of problems. However, the ever increasing number of people can make the experience a bit grim at times and the parking is plainly problematic. It would be great if something could be worked out for either problem.

Excellent climbing centre, so much to try, lots of friendly staff and nice community spirit. The only disappointment is parking, it’s a bit tight that the local land owner has painted double yellow lines on every road around the centre. Singles with a restriction would surely be sufficient. I went on a Sunday and was unable to find a parking space that was on land belonging to the depot. Maybe you could strike up a deal with the local business on the same road to use their parking spaces when they’re not open?

Great bouldering venue. Hundreds of routes to have a crack at, a weights and training room together with a cave if you want to climb a roof. Only thing lacking is cake, but they more than make up for it with pizza! What’s not to love. Food is great value, climbing prices are standard, but pound per route they’re better than any other northwest venue. Lots of parking and masses of space inside.

Best climbing gym I’ve ever been to. Such a massive variety of routes and holds. The comp wall is amazing, the training area is the best I’ve seen in any gym, and the staff are lovely too. Can’t wait to go back!

Always a good atmosphere. I go weekly. £6.50 for students. Always seeing a familiar face in there. Great music so no need to bring headphones!

We went to The Depot today for my daughters 7th birthday! It was brilliant! The girls loved it, the staff were so helpful and it was hassle free for us as parents. The food was fantastic - we all agreed the best chips we have ever had! All in all a great experience!

Visited the depot Climbing centre this morning and was very impressed. I have been climbing a few times before in a local gym however this was a few years ago so have no real experience- my girlfriend and I decided to give it a go and were both quite anxious going to a big climbing gym. The staff were very friendly and helpful-putting us at ease instantly. The overall vibe in the gym is great - everyone was friendly and respectful. The gym is huge with loads of great stuff to suit all abilities. Couldn't recommend this place enough and will certainly be back often.

Best place to climb in Manchester. I started off as a beginner here and have been going for over a year. Everyone is incredibly friendly. For anyone wanting to visit by public transport, you can catch the 250 from the town centre and it drops you off only a few minutes walk from the climbing centre. Easy to access especially as sometimes it can be difficult to find parking when it gets busy.

I had never been bouldering before and Depot did an amazing job as a first experience. Extremely friendly and welcoming stuff who helped me with shoes. They also explained the grading system and where to start. I highly recommend it for beginners and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Definitely be going back.
