The Ministry of Health's premier facility for the diagnosis and ongoing care of cancer patients is the National Cancer Institute, popularly known as Apeksha Hospital. As the name suggests it really brings hope to all the cancer patients. It provides both the specialized care in surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, as well as the diagnostic procedures required to identify all forms of cancer including PET-CT Scans. Recently they have started Bone Marrow Transplants as well. Together with medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical physicists, laboratory technicians, and other minor employees, a group of skilled consultants manage the hospital's services. Almost all the staff members are super friendly towards the patients and their families. The Hospital is well maintained and organized. The new building named RAZAVI is especially clean and tidy. Everyone has free access to the services. The NCI not only offers high-quality medical services, but it also serves as a significant teaching ground for medical students and postgraduates. It features a range of amenities, including clinics, wards, and other outpatient sections that offer services 24/7. Via a variety of support services, they care about the patients' general wellbeing in addition to their medical care.

As many government services in Sri Lanka, this place is also under same scenario. Although Nurses and Doctors treat patients rather better than normal hospitals, it's not upto high standard as many are thinking or telling. Poor people have wait hours and hours to meet Doctors but some are coming around 11.00am for the session which schedule on 9.00am, while patients are waiting since 6.00am. If someone came for first time, you cnnot find which wy to begin untill find someone and ask.No any proper guidline displayed for even for the specific procedures . Even I'm with a patient since 8.00am and Now the time is 11.21am. Still more to wait.

If you want your sick loved ones to die, this is the place. The nurses are super rude. They don’t inform the family on any treatment or exams they are doing. Until we asked a nurse three times (they were always β€œbusy” so they couldn’t check a file), they didn’t tell us that the CT scan was scheduled in December! And my grandma didn’t have a bed to sleep on , which I totally get, there were other real serious patients. But if you told us about the scan, we would have taken her home. And the nurse was super rude and asked her to address her as β€œmiss” coz sure , that’s what’s more important here. I’ve had at least 10 bad experiences in the last 5 days. You maybe a government hospital but at least do you job for the pay you get, if not for humanity. Chik!

This is my 1st visit to Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama (Previously named as Cancer Hospital). And I couldn’t imagine that was an hospital, it’s architecture was so attractive. I visited here with my friends for almsgiving. If you have idea to give a treat, this is the best place. And please note that, Don’t take any photos of any patient. And also they don’t allowed.

Government own cancer hospital in the country. Whole staff providing excellent care and support all the patients. Multiple bus routes to reach the hospital and connecting roads are maintained well, easy access. Inside parking only for the staff. Outside parking available, for a nominal fee. Facility maintained well, and regularly cleaning can see.

Everybody better have a look before donating. Myself and my wife were going to hand over medicine worth around Rs 10,00000 to this hospital. Since we were busy, we were trying to call and get the Director contacted. But it is very sad that some local men and women from the exchange seldom answer the phone and tell that we cannot get the Director or any doctor contacted, instead we should hand it over to one of the nurses in donation unit. They do not care how worth this donation and how valuable it is. We care because that is our money. This is not the first time it happened like this. We donated two PICCLINES (each worth Rs 40000) by August 2021. Since we were busy, we sent them to the hospital through the pharmacist we bought them from. Just a nurse came to the phone and told us that they got it and god knows where they went. Even we were not given any proof that they were received correctly. Coming back to my donation this time, we thought why we were trying to help a hospital like this where the donors are looked upon and not cared at all! They have recommended those required medicines through an email and nobody is there even to confirm that we can import medicine from other countries. Other thing is that they did not tell for how many patients it is required. Even to tell that, somebody should come to the phone. God help the patients!

The main hospital in Sri Lanka dedicated for cancer patients. It has developed a lot from its early stages and provides a quality healthcare facility to thousands of cancer patients daily. It got the best oncology medical staff and has ample of facilities too. The staff is kind and attentive. The new 'Razavi' building is equipped with up-to-date technology and the environment gives a feeling of a private hospital. πŸ‘

Clean government hospital but very much crowded. People from all over country visits here for Cancer related treatments since this is the only place in Sri Lanka with all state of the art equipments and treatment methods. Helpful kind staff but some services may be not to the beat quality due to massive work load they are having. Need more staff at busy counters. Can see some staff just siting not having enough work.

One of the greatest Hospitals for Cancer located in Maharagama close proximity to the Town run by the Ministry of Health of the government of Sri Lanka doing an yeoman service to humanity. It was called National Cancer Hospital earlier and now renamed Apeksha meaning Hope in Singhala language because of the social stigma people had as it was sort of thought a point of no return. There were private funeral parlours nearby and those too were removed. My sister lost out yo Cancer and I had the privilage of installing Window Tats for the Children's Ward Play House few years back by organizing gunding and I myself personally did the installation for the World Childrens Day. The Director was Dr Kanishka Karunaratna and he issued a letter of appreciation to me. Hats off to all the Staff there.

Its really a beyond just a hospital. Despite some more developments needed to this hospital its like a re-birth place to most of the patients. All basic infrastucture facilities available inside the hospital and waiting areas too available for the visitors. Government SLTB bus services too available from the hospital prenises to outstating areas like polonnaruwa, kandy, katarama etc. Play are for inhouse children (patients) too available inside the premises.

Hospital quality for patients is an important aspect of healthcare. It refers to the level of care and services provided by a hospital that directly impact patients' outcomes, experiences, and overall satisfaction. Several factors contribute to hospital quality for patients, including: 1. Patient Safety: Hospitals should prioritize patient safety by implementing measures to prevent medical errors, infections, and other adverse events. This includes following best practices for medication administration, surgical procedures, and infection control protocols. 2. Clinical Outcomes: The quality of clinical outcomes, such as mortality rates, readmission rates, and complication rates, is a crucial indicator of hospital quality. Lower mortality rates and better outcomes generally indicate higher quality care. 3. Patient Satisfaction: Hospitals should strive to provide a positive patient experience. This includes factors like effective communication, responsiveness to patient needs and preferences, cleanliness, comfort, and overall patient satisfaction surveys. 4. Staffing and Expertise: The qualifications and experience of healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, and support staff, are vital for delivering high-quality care. Sufficient staffing levels and appropriate skill sets contribute to patient safety and positive outcomes. 5. Technology and Infrastructure: Hospitals equipped with modern technology and infrastructure can enhance patient care, diagnosis, and treatment. Advanced medical equipment, electronic health records (EHRs), and efficient communication systems can improve the accuracy and efficiency of healthcare delivery. 6. Care Coordination: Effective care coordination between different healthcare providers, departments, and transitions of care (such as from hospital to home or rehabilitation centers) is essential. This ensures seamless continuity of care and reduces the risk of medical errors or gaps in treatment. 7. Accreditation and Certifications: Hospitals that have achieved accreditation from reputable organizations, such as The Joint Commission or other regional accrediting bodies, demonstrate a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. Certifications in specific areas of expertise (e.g., stroke center certification) can also indicate specialized care quality. 8. Transparent Reporting: Hospitals that publicly report their quality metrics and outcomes demonstrate transparency and accountability. Publicly available data, such as Hospital Compare in the United States, can help patients make informed decisions about their healthcare providers. 9. Patient Education and Engagement: Hospitals that prioritize patient education and engagement empower patients to actively participate in their healthcare decisions. Providing understandable information, involving patients in care planning, and encouraging shared decision-making contribute to better patient outcomes. 10. Continual Quality Improvement: Hospitals committed to continuous quality improvement monitor outcomes, analyze data, and implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient care. Regular performance assessments and feedback mechanisms help identify areas for improvement and drive positive change. It's worth noting that different hospitals may excel in different areas, and patients' needs and preferences can vary. Thus, it's important for individuals to consider their specific healthcare requirements when assessing hospital quality and choose a facility that aligns with their needs. Additionally, local regulations and healthcare systems may influence the standards and measurement of hospital quality in different regions.

Im very dissapointed with the service provided by the hospital. Since its a pulblic service and everything is given in free the hospital. The employees are so hectic and dont know how to speak to the patients properly with sincerely. When there is required to get thebtest have to walk around hospital like hell everything is not on one place and this is a issure for the patients health walking here and there. And to get dates for the tests they dont even care about it. They just watch tv. Just taking their own time and doing their job. Peaple who come from 7.00 clock have to go for clinic but some cannot even meet the doctor till 1 even. it should have good process to maintain the time without wasting patients time since these patients just not patients they are CANCER SPECIAL PATIENTS. And specially attendents should respect each and every patient with good manner. This is not the way how cancer hospital should be treated. It should have a good sincere manner. Please consider on this. Thank you

This is a place that I have visited so many times which is treating for cancer patients mainly in Sri Lanka. It is unbelievable how a staff help patients and all the other visitors in a friendly manner. They are like gods who were born to help those people. We should appreciate it very much. Because in the other hospitals in Sri Lanka I have very rarely seen this kind of caring about all the humans. As health care professionals patience and kindness are the thing that should developed within themselves. It was very clearly seen in this hospital staff. Nice service and great job. May all the gods protect you.
