We had a lovely time at the family tree. The staff were lovely and the service was great! Food and sandwiches were nice, with unlimited tea and coffee included for those having afternoon tea. The cakes and scones were also nice. Thank you for a lovely time.

We stopped for a night whilst in the Peak District. The Family Tree is an impeccably well run B&B and cafe. Our room was beautiful. Classy, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. It was spacious with a large bathroom with quality towels and toiletries. Breakfast was high quality and plentiful. There was ample choice and lots of flexibility. The full English was really well cooked with quality produce. This is a great find and is very well worth a visit. Highly recommended!

We were looking for a hotel/B&B in the Alton Towers/Matlock Bath area and stumbled upon The Family Tree. Wow, what a find. It's a lovely family run B&B with beautifully decorated and appointed rooms in a grade 2 listed former coach house. The breakfast is outstanding, gorgeous cereal, fruit and pastry options followed by a cooked breakfast option. Service is first class and very friendly. There's a large courtyard garden filled with different seating options, all set in their own individual areas so each feels private. We will definitely return.

We found this great little cafe/restaurant by looking ahead on Google and reading previous customer reviews. It was easy to find, although it is on a junction but there is a good sized dedicated car park right across the road with a wide pull-in so that works really well! Parking is free. There is plenty of seating inside and the large garden area has lots of seating in differing areas allowing everybody some space without overcrowding :) The garden is full of quality planting with a lovely atmosphere and plenty of parasols for the hot weather :) There are toilets inside but also access to clean modern toilets from the garden which is handy. There is also a big climbing frame outside for the children and the play area is fenced. Hubby had beans on toast with two fried eggs as extra. It was hot fresh and delicious - a really good portion! I had Greek yoghurt with granola, sliced banana, mixed seeds and honey. It was a very pretty presentation and I really enjoyed it - although it would have been nice to have granola in the bottom of the dish too - that volume of yoghurt, once you’ve eaten the toppings, still leaves a lot of yoghurt to eat on its own. But it was good quality yoghurt and served well :) We also had a large pot of tea which came with a good jug of milk, perfect! This all came to just over £17 which we felt was good value for money :) Thank you to the lovely staff who were all very friendly and polite, sorry we had to dash at the end! I’ve saved you to my Google maps and we’ll definitely be back next time we’re passing :)

Doesn’t seem to be very organised, staff seemed overwhelmed and almost paranoid (as overheard by another customer). Left waiting for 15 minutes and other customers who had been seated after us where having their order taken immediately. We left after waiting 20 minutes total. I do want to stress the young members of staff seemed to be more “on it” the slightly older waitress sort of just pottered about and didn’t show a lot of urgency. There was no structure to their service and we were just left really disappointed. Such a shame as well because the food before has been really nice. We then went to a pub in Belper, who were extremely busy. They made room for us and we were sat down within 2 minutes and drinks order taken *immediately*. Within another 30 minutes the food we ordered had arrived. Staff were extremely lovely and attentive. Such a massive difference from the Family Tree.

Nice looking cafe. Unfortunately on this occasion we waited over an hour for a couple of sandwiches. When I went up the the till to ask how long it would be I did see a sign apologising for delays, this was partially hidden under other leaflets. It would have been good to have been told by the service staff seating us. We wouldn't have ordered food if this was known. When the food arrived the chips I had were cold and my vegan baguette was dry. Not worth the wait. Hopefully this was due to the cafe being busy. I live close by and this was my first visit so I will give it another chance. The young service staff were trying their best and were polite and pleasant.

The Family Tree is in a great position and from previous experience food is good. However on a recent visit we were initially advised there would be a forty minute wait for food. Being concerned that we might not have enough time left on our ticket at the car park we were walking back to we opted just to have coffee but this still took thirty minutes to arrive. The place was not full but staff seemed unable to cope. We then remembered that we had a similar experience on our last visit. We had put this down to a one off but on reflection we wonder if it is usual. Sad to say I don't think we'll be visiting again. Indeed I think several potential customers were lost during our visit.

We've been here a few times now and the service and food is always fantastic. They've got a lovely enclosed courtyard area with around ten tables which is great for eating outdoors. They do a lovely all day breakfast, but also the salads and Quiche is great too. Highly recommend stopping here if you're walking down the Cromford canal as it's just a minute off the route near Whatstandwell station. You won't be disappointed

Been here a few times and unfortunately I've had to change my review from 5 to 1. The service was appalling, so slow and didn't listen when taking the order, my daughter asked whether the veggie burger was a patty or made from veg, told her was made from veg but couldn't say what veg, it's mainly peas and very bland so she ended up leaving it. Food is good but my chicken sandwich was cold, think it was sat waiting for the rest of the plate to be cooked . What made me smile was the '4 in a bed' winner plaque proudly displayed but what that got to do with the cafe, maybe at the bottom of the stairs to to the rooms. Overall gone from a jewel of a cafe to an overpriced, slow run of the mill cafe and for us not worth the car ride, which is what we used to do when it was 5 stars.

This charming and delightful place treats you like family. The owner and staff makes you feel as home and their effort to make the best out of your stay really shows wether it’s just a stop for a coffee or like us a stay for a few nights. Rooms are well kept and very cozy. Food is better than what you pay for. Service and atmosphere is fantastic.

We came to The Family Tree cafe for breakfast/brunch. We were really impressed with the setting, it is a beautiful place to be. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food we ordered was delicious and they have a yummy selection of home baked treats. Would very much recommend a visit here.

We had an absolute wonderful stay at The Family Tree! My now husband booked the entire place for my bridal party to stay in the night before as a surprise and even the private function room the following morning for us to use for getting ready. If that wasn’t enough, the breakfast spread that they put on was just out of this world! We all felt so looked after and really added something special to our wedding. Christine and the whole team really went above and beyond to make the start to our wedding celebrations truly memorable. Thank you!

Tasty and nicely presented toasties, sandwiches and ciabatta bread with a reasonable choice of fillings. Chips and fries are crispy. Good choice of cakes and bakes, looked delicious, though we were too full to try them. The setting was comfortable with a choice of comfy sofas, traditional tables or to sit outside. After being seated, service could have been quicker to take the orders but when she did come over the lady was pleasant and drinks and food arrived in a timely manner thereafter. Overall, a good place for a coffee and a bite to eat.

A superb location, great rooms ,comfy beds, & everything you need. The service was superb, lovely friendly staff who saw to our every need. The breakfasts were amazing , plentiful , great quality of ingredients, beautifully cooked and plenty of options. The best feature in our stay was how relaxed and at ease you felt, you were never rushed ,even the checking out time was a generous midday , leaving you plenty of time to have breakfast, pack and checkout without rushing. The owners are a young couple who really are going out of their way to make The Family Tree a success. I would whole heartily recommend and would certainly visit again.

Always a warm welcome here , great coffee and lovely cakes especially the scones . Service can be a bit slow sometimes. Prices are competitive. Closes at 4pm so don't leave it too late ! Parking can be a problem at busy times .

What a brilliant find. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated and the food is delicious....but even better is simply the wonderful and welcoming service. Above and beyond. Great place.

Wonderful tea rooms and cafe! The staff are friendly and happy to adapt orders to suit! Menu is extremely varied and delicious! The tea isn't the best although I am used to strong Yorkshire tea! Fab place to take her family and dog friendly!

Enjoyed a lovely night's stay. The room was cosy with a comfortable bed and good shower. Very quiet at night despite the busy road nearby. Close to the canal so had a nice walk toward Cromford in the evening after we arrived. The highlight was the large and delicious breakfast. Would happily stay here again.

We’ve only been here nearly an hour and I’m completely overwhelmed with how beautiful this place is and how thoughtful the owners are, we don’t drink tea and coffee, but they have our favourite, hot chocolate! Everything down to the little detail has had so much thought put into it so that guests have the best stay! As I say the owners are so warm and welcoming, I couldn’t find a single bad thing to say. We will 100% come back, we’ve already FaceTimed family members who are eager to come and visit. What a wonderful place. We booked as a last minute decision to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, I wish we were staying for longer than just one night. Beds, bathroom, the room itself, all perfect!

A wonderful find, I booked afternoon tea here for my birthday. After arriving in Matlock earlier than planned, I rang the Family Tree to ask if we could come earlier than booked. And even though they had parties booked in, it seemed to be no trouble to them at all that we went earlier. When we arrived we were greeted with a friendly smile and shown to our table in the window seats. The afternoon tea was absolutely gorgeous and even had some extra freshly made vegetarian sausage rolls on the side. The staff were so attentive and friendly and I cannot recommend The Family Tree highly enough. Everything about or visit was lovely - a special place to spend my birthday. Also, dogs are allowed inside too. Amazing. 😊 and thank you to all the lovely, hard working staff.

Come here regularly with partner and pooch, I love that you can either sit inside or out in the beautiful terrace with the dog. Service is always great, and the breakfast is always spot on. The milkshakes are lovely and huge too!

Stayed at the Family Inn during an interview trip in March. An excellent local feel, with a real family feel. Staff (mostly family) are warm and welcoming, willing to go out of their way to help where ever possible. Room was spotless, and they were prepared to serve me breakfast in the café at 7am to accommodate my interview. The food was both delicious and plentiful (although I was too nervous to eat much). It's a short walk (around 1 mile) to the local village, which stretches out into vast regions of countryside - The views are tremendous! I highly recommend The Family Tree as it has absolutely everything you would want, and need, from a weekend getaway.

Thought it would be good as it has a vegan menu. Ordered a decaf coffee and a vegan cheese toastie. I was wrong, not worth the time, though the waiting staff were really helpful. Kitchen/manager couldn't care less after 30 minute wait time despite others ordering after me, and getting food actually brought out. No issue at all if food (or my order specifically) has a delay due to number of tickets, but at least inform the wait staff so that they can pass that along.
