Just looking at these run-down buildings makes my heart skip a beat! The Shutter Town! The shutters of most stores are closed. A few stores are open, but more than 90% are closed! Was it because I visited on a Sunday? I'm not sure if it's because of the coronavirus pandemic or if there are other reasons. This shopping mall was built in 1985 when the Tsukuba Expo was held. A bypass called New Way runs over this. It must have been lively and bustling at the time it was built. This is the legacy left behind by the Tsukuba Expo. It feels like the rise and fall. I love run-down buildings like this, but what do the locals of Tsuchiura think? I don't know, but I feel like I want it to stay forever.

“This is a shutter town! ” The orange shutters are closed, giving off a pleasantly uniform look (lol). It seems like it was used as a filming location for a movie, so I pinpointed the location 📌 (lol). “Yo-kai Watch: A great adventure in the double world with the flying whale! ” appears around 1:03.

A three-story shopping mall built under the bypass that runs through the city of Tsuchiura. In Tokyo, it is a mall like the New Shinbashi Building or Jiyugaoka Department Store, which has many individual shops and each tenant is different, but there are almost no tenants, and even though it is in the city, it is a huge shuttered street. It was my first visit in about 25 years, and I was struck by the dystopian atmosphere where time has stopped. However, there is a lot of graffiti, and young people can be seen sitting on the ground even during the day. It's definitely unsafe at night, so it's best to avoid going there at night.

Shutter shopping street. There are few people and it is quiet.

It has been used as a filming location for numerous dramas and movies. A sacred spot. The road that hangs over the bridge girder and connects to Tsukuba City is a remnant from the 1985 Tsukuba Expo, and was intended to be used as a means of transportation similar to the Yurikamome, which was the latest at the time. Tsuchiura is a town with an atmosphere that retains a combination of old and new scenery from the Showa era to the first half of the Heisei era.

It's Sunday, but there's no one around and most of the shops are closed.

Nowadays, when huge shopping malls are in full swing, shopping malls made up of long, open-air buildings can't help but feel old. However, until recently it looked really deserted, but the number of shops has been increasing little by little, and it may be starting to come back to life. During Tsuchiura festivals and marathons, it becomes an event plaza and is crowded with booths.

Visit by getting off at Tsuchiura Station on the Cycle Train Joban Line. I have to say that the tenant occupancy rate is low and it is deserted. I wanted to experience the bustle of the past.

(Translated by Google) In the past (heyday) I feel that it was a great shopping mall with a lot of stores on 3 floors long and narrow ~ It's a pity that many stores are closed now (Original) 昔(全盛期)は 3階建で細長く店舗数も多いし凄いショッピングモールだったと感じる〜 今は閉店数も多くて残念

(Translated by Google) Originally, the area around Tsuchiura Station is a town with many vacant stores and few signs of people, but Kawaguchi Shopping Mall has more than half of the vacant stores. However, there is a movement to set up a store here recently. I would like to expect a little more.

Shutter Shopping Street is a sacred place for filming dramas and movies. Neighboring residents see it as a gathering place for delinquents and want it to be demolished as soon as possible. It is doubtful whether the management association is functioning at all.

👍 It's a store I quite like. I think supermarkets can be divided into two types: stores where you only have one item in your cart after two or three weeks, and stores where you have to bring another eco bag! This one is the latter.

👍 I think it looks very stylish in a station building. The first floor has a convenience store and cycle shop, and the second floor has a restaurant like a live house, a bakery, a bookstore, and a souvenir shop. On the 3rd floor, there were many shops such as Hoshino Resorts BEB5 Tsuchiura, Chinese fo...
