The ambience itself is not that great, but the food is really delicious. It was unfortunate that the kebab was kinda charred because the meat was so good. There's no menu, but the prices are very reasonable. They don't impose the water bottle on you.

The place looks like they're cutting out organs, and mostly locals eat there - a sign that you're going to eat great food here. The waiter invited us into the kitchen and helped us choose our dishes. Everything was delicious, especially the kofta with tahina. Here you can feel the real local Jordanian atmosphere! 🇯🇴

I loved it. Delicious local food (minced meat in bread) for 1.5 EUR. You can get it for take away and you can eat on the spot (extra 0.7EUR) Fresh and quick service. The restaurant is clean. Card is not accepted.

We decided to try this restaurant for dinner one day and we certainly don't regret it!! It is full of locals and you won't usually find a lot of tourists eating at this place, which is always a good sign. One of their specialities is some sort of round "casserole" of lamb meat (look at my picture). Following the advice of some local customers sitting next to us we ordered one of those "casseroles" cooked with tomato and another one with a white sauce that was for sure made out of milk or cheese. Both were incredibly tasty. We also ordered a "sandwich" of 2 pita breads with ground meet inside. It was not bad but I enjoyed the casseroles more. We paid a total of 8 JD for this amazing dinner.

One of Amman’s finest - and best described as Hashem’s meatier twin brother. A proper “no frills” locals spot. No menu, friendly service, plastic table cloths, no plates (just a bread), insanely cheap. Every dish was excellent. from the grilled Chicken Shish and Lamb, to the kofte drowning in Tahini. Make sure to order the spicy Ezme Salad!

Absolutely delicious place that came highly recommended. The service is extremely friendly and fast, and the food is definitely worth it! The arayes is hot, crispy, meaty, greasy, and packed with flavour. Their kofta with tomatoes are equally juicy and well spiced served with some soft fresh bread and pickles. The kofta with tahini also comes highly recommended but will have to keep that to try for the next time. It's also extremely great value for money - the arayes, kofta, and a pepsi together came in at 5 JOD

We shared the mixed grill, chicken grill and mixed vegetables. - both were delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, with fresh bread. There is menu and some people speak English. The ambience is good, typical local environment, loud music, people shout and many waitresses are stressing. Prices are reasonable, we paid 13 JOD total including soft drinks.

Very nice restaurant based around barbequed meats in Jordanian cuisine. The food was very well made with large portions and the service was friendly. The cost of one person's meal is between 3 and 4 JOD, which is very much worth it.

Super cheap food in Amman. Local informed me the restaurant had been around for 25 years. Very basic interior they line your table with plastic as you’re seated and at the end everything gets rolled up in the plastic and disposed of. Service was slow but I think that was because only one server spoken English. Hygiene standards are questionable but food was delicious

It’s not my first time here in Shahrazad, it’s we’ll known restaurant in Amman down town, worth trying , the best Araies in the town and their Kofta is the best, with very good quality and friendly prices. Highly recommended to everyone who would like to try decent food in Amman down town. We have paid 14JD , highly recommended.

While this branch offers good prices and tasty food, there were a couple of areas where they fell short. Firstly, the preparation time for our order was disappointingly long, taking over an hour. This delay can be frustrating, especially when you're hungry and eager to enjoy your meal. It would be great if they could work on improving their efficiency in order preparation to minimize wait times. Furthermore, the environment at this branch left much to be desired. Unfortunately, we were given a spot that was not up to par with the rest of the dining area. The seating arrangement or the ambiance of the assigned spot may have been uncomfortable or lacking in aesthetics. It's important for the establishment to ensure that all customers are seated in pleasant and comfortable areas, as it contributes to the overall dining experience. Despite these shortcomings, the prices and taste of the food were still commendable. The affordability and delicious flavors are certainly positive aspects that deserve recognition. It would be beneficial if the management addressed the issues of order preparation time and seating arrangements to enhance the overall experience for their customers. In summary, while the branch offers good prices and tasty food, improvements are needed in terms of order preparation time and seating arrangements. By addressing these areas, the establishment can create a more satisfying and enjoyable dining environment for their customers.

We shared the mixed grill and spicy tomato dip - both were absolutely delicious. The meat was tender and juicy, with fresh bread. There is no menu so go there open minded and get immersed with locals. Prices are really reasonable, we paid 10JOD total including soft drinks

Fantastic arais - 1jd, very crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Guy serving me was cool and explained everything on the menu. Not sure which restaurant I was at though as I was sitting in the Shahrazad but after the meal they told me to pay part of the bill at Abu Zaghleh. I assume they work together.

Amazing place! It’s the traditional old school you don’t need plates restaurant! Can’t stop thinking about their Kufta! When it comes to prices you’ll be suprised how cheap the place is ! We paid 15,5 jd for 4 people! And it was plenty! Staff is also nice so I wouldn’t skip this place !

Arayes was absolutely amazing and really cheap (1JOD). It’s not a turistic or glam place, but they do amazing food and they’re super nice

If you are a tourist, EAT HERE! Some of the best food I’ve eaten in the Middle East, most definitely the best food we had in Amman. Ordering is a little tricky but some waiters come by with photos of the food, and majority speak more than enough English to where you can understand what you’re ordering. Absolutely try the kofta tahini. This is by far the best dish we had, I still think about it to this day. The shish tawook was also delicious- a very smoky and rich taste to the chicken. Arayes are also good, but not a must. And of course the pita, hummus, and baba ganoush given with the food really made the meal. Just so delicious! And EXTREMELY affordable.

Five stars for the food. The place is very crowded though. If you are concerned about COVID no measures what so ever. If food is what matters that your place.

A traditional restaurant right in the center of Downtown Amman. It’s comparable with other places in style and service, so you won’t in for a surprise when your table is covered in plastic and there’s no real menu. However, Google Maps has all the options for you along the photos if your Arabic is sub-par, as mine definitely is. We had the tomato köfte and the “arayes” (a kind of lamencun, served pizza-style). Both were outstanding. It’s worth the wait out front, for sure.

They treat you like a local and this is very important in Jordan. Good prices, good quality and good location. Try especially the Arais, they are very good, a kind of double pita bread stuffed with meat and crunchy spices

We didn't like It. We tried this restaurant because of the fame amongst locals which should be a good sign. We ordered 3 arayes (the meat inside seemed not cooked enough), grilled chicken which came very dry and kofte in a kind of tomato sauce which was way to greasy. It was cheap but It was not worth It.

Cheap and good food. It is quite slow service but the food was good. Two meals and two drinks for 8JD, I think it is good value. We were only tourists there so I guess that is good

As always , one of the best grills and kufta you can get in amman + its quite cheap. Interesting location in downtown and always a memorable experience.

  • 4/5 Anika A. 2 years ago on Google
The reason this is not 5 star is because of the VERY SLOW service, other than this, I’d say this was THE BEST FOOD IN AMMAN. totally authentic, no tourists, EXTREMELY CHEAP (if you’re coming from Europe/US) and omg so tasty. The lamb kebab with tahini - wow. I’ve never tasted any kebab like that before. The chicken was also so nicely grilled with smell of charcoal. I would definitely go back and recommend everyone to try this - they really apologised for the wait so it made it a bit better. We waited about 40-50 mins for your food just fyi but honestly if you go a bit earlier than eating time it will probably be quicker. We ate at hashem restaurant as well but honestly felt this was better and the other too touristy.

If you would like to have delicious meat-based meals, this is the place to go. It is a traditional, family-owned restaurant, opened since the 1960’s at the center of Downtown Amman (Al-Balad). I recommend to try the tomato Kofta, the Tahini Kofta and the Arayes. They were delecious!!! It reminded me of my grandma’s cooking ♥️

Friendly people but limited English and no menu, but no worries just show them pictures and they will help you. We went three times it was amazing and very cheap, 7 JOD for two dishes, two drinks and a yoghurt
