I’ve
been
looking
forward
to
writing
this
because
I
really
enjoyed
my
short
stay
at
Carob,
it
was
the
first
place
we
stayed
at
and
remained
the
gold
standard
for
our
trip
around
Jordan.
I’ll
break
down
the
review
into:
• Location
• Staff/People
• Accommodation/Utilities
• Incidentals/Intangibles/Vibe
Location
⭐️⭐️⭐️:
We
arrived
from
the
airport
and
into
Amman
early
on
a
Saturday
morning,
at
about
2:30AM.
Driving
to
the
Hostel
was
complicated
by
poor
instructions
from
Google
Maps
and
the
poor
driving
of
most
Ammanians.
The
hostel
is
in
a
quiet
area,
on
top
a
hill,
with
on
street
parking
in
front.
It
is
quite
a
walk
from
the
town,
downhill.
Taxis
congregate
nearby,
otherwise
sites
like
the
Roman
theatre,
Wild
Jordan
and
Rainbow
Street
are
no
more
than
20
minutes
walk.
This
had
benefits
beyond
the
exercise
I
was
getting
in.
Views
from
the
hostel
are
remarkable,
the
quiet
of
the
location
meant
we
were
not
disturbed
by
the
mosques
(during
Ramadan
2022).
Staff/People
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
We
got
such
a
kind
welcome
to
Carob.
We
arrived
tired
after
a
very
long
day
&
the
staff
who
greeted
us
were
sympathetic
to
this.
They
checked
us
in
quickly,
answered
some
questions
&
offered
to
carry
our
bags.
The
breakfast
of
a
morning
was
served
with
a
smile
and
quickly,
questions
answered
by
very
knowledgeable
and
friendly
staff.
My
observation
of
the
staff
led
me
to
believe
that
they
were
busy
but
not
stressed
or
overwhelmed
or
unduly
put
upon.
Carob
has
a
notice
board
with
lots
of
opportunities
to
share
tours
and
rides.
Other
guests
will
start
conversations
with
you
&
share
tips
&
their
own
experiences.
Take
advantage
of
this,
be
flexible
and
open
to
changing
your
plans.
Accommodation/Utilities
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
Carob
has
a
large
outdoor
space
with
chairs
&
table
tennis
tables.
Then
there
is
the
hallway
that
leads
to
the
rooms
and
dormitories.
We
had
a
private
room,
I
believe
they
all
have
shared
showers
and
toilets.
Our
room
with
large,
very
comfortable,
with
well
positioned
power
points.
Carob
has
good
acoustic
design;
room
doors
do
not
slam,
corridors
have
lots
of
soft
materials
that
dampen
voices,
footsteps
&
closing
doors.
As
you’d
expect
from
a
hostel
there’s
a
well
appointed
kitchen
that
has
filtered
water,
cooking
and
storage
facilities.
The
showers
were
warm
and
powerful
enough.
The
toilets
were
always
clean.
Toilets
have
a
bidet
which
is
good,
but
also
have
very
thin
toilet
roll,
which
is
a
bad
combination
(not
worth
docking
a
star
in
itself,
but
worth
noting)…
I
felt
that
I
was
using
more
paper
than
usual
with
a
bidet,
as
I
would
need
to
wrap
up
my
used
tissue
to
throw
it
in
the
bin,
as
flushing
it
is
not
allowed.
The
toilets
were
European
style,
I
didn’t
see
any
Asian
style
alternatives.
The
Carob
owners
can
correct
me
if
I’m
wrong
but
the
hostel
doesn’t
have
its
own
solar
panels
(save
for
some
small
ones
on
some
outdoor
lighting).
This
struck
me
as
odd,
it
seems
that
most
Amman
rooftops
do
not
have
solar,
so
maybe
it
isn’t
culturally
normalised
at
the
moment.
That
said,
there
were
signs
in
each
room
asking
guests
to
conserve
energy
because
the
KWH
cost
is
one
of
the
highest
in
the
world.
As
an
aside,
Jordan
is
almost
98%
reliant
on
its
neighbours
for
its
energy
needs,
but
has
an
aim
to
provide
40%
of
its
energy
by
2050
and
a
real
drive
toward
renewables.
I
factored
in
the
accommodations
reliance
upon
fossil
fuel
into
my
Carbon
offsetting
calculation.
I
have
to
mention
the
outdoor
dining
area
which
is
great,
with
long
couches
and
large
tables
and
parts
in
shade.
I
really
enjoyed
eating
out
here.
Incidentals/Intangibles/Vibe
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️:
As
stated
earlier
I
felt
very
welcomed
here,
loved
the
views
and
outdoor
spaces,
liked
the
room,
the
other
guests
and
staff.
We
stayed
in
Amman
for
three
nights
but
only
stayed
in
Carob
for
two,
our
other
hostel
was
a
real
disappointment
in
comparison.
We
returned
to
Carob
at
the
end
of
our
holiday
as
we
needed
to
return
the
WiFi
dongle
we
rented.
Even
in
that
short
interaction
I
was
reminded
of
everything
I
liked
about
the
place
and
of
the
shortcomings
of
so
many
other
places
o
stayed
in
across
Jordan.
