Good one. There are two Makhan chickens in Amritsar. They both are brothers. This one doesn’t have the attached bar. The taste is better than the one on Majitha Road. The dishes to be tried here are - fish tikka, fish pakoda, chicken pakoda, tandoori chicken, chilly chicken and cheese chilly. And believe me these all are awesome. Outside liquor is allowed. It’s my preferred place to sit. A separate family hall is also available. Nice place. Parking is a problem here as you have to park the vehicles on the road. But it's not a tow-away zone. You will get a slot for the car anyhow. 👌👌

I was so surprised with so much good reviews.. we tried fish fry ( fish fried Sankara ) which is totally false hyped.. as I'm from South India these fries are not even upto the mark.. and we ordered rara chicken (half) which is actually good n it's more than enough for 4 people.. it's actually kind of resto bar.. we can dine as well as drink.. rest rooms are not that clean.. mostly they only accept cash and if it's credit card they charge 2% extra.. be aware of it ..

Horrible is the word which doesn’t fully describe this place. Don’t go just by the ratings like I did, its a full experience of what one doesn’t expect or deserve at a restaurant. Don’t go if you are hungry, waited 45 mins for coke and almost 70 mins for 1 fish fry, which was still pink (undercooked) from inside. Don’t go if you expect to be treated with respect. If you went and any big group (vip/shi ip) comes, forget getting any service and just walk away. Go if you want to hear the banters of waiters and if you wish to get bullied and preached by the owner for not showing patience, (after waiting for an hour and 30 minutes.) Just ruining the good name of their own franchise.

Old Makhan Fish and Chicken in Lawrence road. My friend had researched about them and daughter has seen review of some blogger. The place lived up to our expectations. The fish and mutton was too good. However, there is limited option for veg. The service was great even though it was extremely busy day since vacations started today. Highly recommended.

There are multiple levels to this lovely gem of a culinary delightful restaurant. The lower level is a quarter system place and the upper level is the family dining area. The food is fresh and simply outstanding. The fish is absolutely fresh and please don't miss the Amritsari Fish. There was something called chicken pakoras. The crunch and the softness of this absolutely brilliant dish is amazing. We also tried the mutton seekh kebabs. It was earth and rustic and full of flavour. A real relief from the plastic stuff you get outside normally. Unfortunately we were so hungry we didn't get a chance to get a pic of the dishes..... Sorry. We had the pleasure of sharing a few pleasantries with the son of the founder and it's amazing to hear the story.... We were lucky to get this small snippet of history. Kudos for maintaining the flavours of the food through the years. Well done and keep it up. Thank you for a splendid meal. I have to mention our waiter Mr. Rakesh, he was so pleasant and full of wisecracks. One wonders how he managed to get our order perfectly without writing down a single thing. One of my top meals in life I've got to say.

Despite the hype about this restaurant, we were a bit disappointed. Did not match up to the expectations. The food was basic. Incidentally there are two branches in Amritsar.

My most disappointing experience was when I attempted to place multiple orders at a restaurant. Initially, I ordered the mutton champ, followed by a second order for peanut masala. However, when I attempted to place a third order for peanut masala, both the server and the owner declined my request, displaying extremely discourteous behavior. Furthermore, I'd like to mention the owner's response to our situation. Despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't particularly busy during our visit, and we had left within 45-60 minutes, the owner's behavior and attitude towards customers were truly disappointing and shameful. I have dined at numerous establishments, and the treatment we received at your restaurant was by far the worst.

A group of 10 of us visited Makhan one chilly evening in December and had a fantastic dinner. We were seated upstairs in the family dining room, basic but very clean and cozy. Our waiter Rakesh asked us a couple of questions and then suggested the chapli kabab, tangdi chicken (?), Amritsar fish, fish singara, black dal and, of course, the butter chicken, and each one of his suggestions was spot on. The food came out steaming hot, the fish was flaky and buttery soft, the butter chicken was exactly what we had been craving, the garlic naan was the perfect accompaniment and we really enjoyed our Amritsari dinner. Highly recommend this restaurant and you can finish with a meetha paan from the little shop next door!

In a city like Amritsar finding fried fish isn’t difficult. The dish is after all named after the city itself…”Amritsari Fish”. For many years Makhan Fish Hut has been serving one of the best fried fish in the city. The quality of the fish, the filets with minimum bones, the great tasting batter, everything is just perfect. Dine-in options include a family friendly hall upstairs and a beer friendly hall downstairs.

Tried the Amritsari Fish Fried Singhara, Mutton Seekh Kebab, Butter Chicken. All good choices. Restaurant asks for cash payment. Alert! they charge 2 percent service fee on cards. Ground floor has BAR section, First floor has A/C Family room

The best Tandoori chicken I ever had. Now, I will visit amritsar again soon and will surely visit this place. The owner of the restaurant was really positive and was giving great gestures. The best experience I had so far. I'm surely going to share the views with my Delhi and Vancouver's friends.

Good food, we ordered Amritsar I fish, mutton chaamp, tandoori chicken and keema naan with gravy. Food was very good, must try. Keema naan was average. Mr Rakesh our server is very humble and his service is good.

Good food , small shop near trillion, Tasty juicy chicken and Fish . Does get crowded in the evening. The owners are humble soul. There are few Makhans in Amritsar. They all claim that they are original but what matters is the taste of food .

The fish was really good Other things were okaish ( expensive for the kind of taste) I would suggest Charming Chicken, Amritsar instead

When in Amritsar do visit this place, it has the best non vegetarian food. Their speciality is fish starters.

  • 1/5 Soumendu S. 9 months ago on Google
Worst experience, The taste of the food was horrible. Their special Amritsari fish didn’t taste good neither their chicken tandoor. Not a recommended places who like to enjoy non-veg. When you leave the restaurant you will turn into a vegan & forget what is non-veg.

Best food ever!! I was visiting Amritsar for the first time and heard wonderful stories about this restaurant and just had to try and I was not disappointed the food was beautiful it introduced flavours I’ve never had before in my life. Will be a place where we’d have to go every time we’re in the country.

The famous makhan fish and chicken is to be tried once in your lifetime. The taste of their fish fry is mouth watering. We had tandoori chicken also which was not unique but tasty. Overall this restaurant can be visited once for their fish fry.

Food taste is superb. The chicken tandoori and fish singhada..both fried n tandooriis v good. The dal taste is awesome

Just the hype. Don't bother going to this place or even the other Makhan Fish on Majitha road. The fish fry is very very average. They serve small portion size at a price which is absolutely not justified for the service. The washroom and dining room were dirty.

  • 3/5 J K. 1 year ago on Google
Although food was tasty but there was a drawback, every item we took was on higher salt that spoilet our taste. Owner must keep in mind otherwise it's clientile will go down defenitely. Also there seems to parking problem which requires considerable attention. Ambience was nice, service was prompt.

Had there been any rating above 5, I'd have given it for sure. What amazing taste and hospitality. Excellent blend of spices and heat to make the food really really tasty with a reasonable price range, this place is not to be missed when in Amritsar

We ordered amritsari fish, tandoori chicken and mutton keema nan with gravy. Everything was superbly tasty and freshly prepared. Generally not a big fan of fish but their fish was amazing. There was no fishy smell and taste so good. I have become a fan of their fish. Hats off to them.👌👌👌

We visited this restaurant last night opposite trillium mall. We ordered all their favourite snacks recommended by the owner, who was a wonderful guy. Never knew that roasted chicken could be that soft. The only set back was food came bit late, but i guess the kitchen was busy. Overall nice experience, would definately recommend to visit once in Amritsar Makhan Fish and Chicken Hut(from Lawrence road) Old jail road, near Taj hotel. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a really nice restaurant and has great food. The owner at the front desk is very pleasant and suggested that we should try tandoori chicken. We did and were not disappointed. We had tava chicken pulao and mutton tikka, and both of those dishes were great as well. The downside is the parking lot. Otherwise, a great experience

Amazing Amritsari food! As overseas visitors, we wanted a restaurant where we could sit and enjoy our meal. Its clean, has fantastic service and the quality of food is fantastic. It’s not to be missed! And be sure to try the mutton tikka

They have fish and tandoori chicken and few more as their signature dishes but i think all of their dishes were excellent. There was not even a single dish which we didn't like. Best for me was tandoori chicken and rara chicken with garlic nan.

We have been here 3 times in a row. Taste and quality is stil unbeaten after 3 weeks in India. The chicken is amazingly jucy but also the vegetarian dishes are spot on. Combined with good service and a clean restaurant I would definitely recommend everyone to eat here

Over rated. The Amritsari fish was bland and expensive. I bave had better fish in Mumbai, Kerala, Goa. Not worth a visit. Maybe a one time thing , just for the sake of it
