Ghanta Ghar, also known as Clock Tower, is a prominent landmark situated in the heart of Anantnag town in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This iconic structure stands tall at the bustling intersection of the town, commonly known as "Lol Chowk." The Ghanta Ghar and its surroundings hold historical, cultural, and commercial significance, making it a central hub of activity in Anantnag. The Ghanta Ghar is a splendid architectural marvel, characterized by its imposing height, intricate design, and a clock adorning its pinnacle. The tower serves as a timekeeper for the town, its rhythmic chimes resonating through the streets, marking the passage of time and captivating the attention of both locals and visitors alike. The history of Ghanta Ghar dates back to the early 20th century when it was constructed during the reign of the Dogra Maharajas. The tower was built to commemorate the coronation of Maharaja Pratap Singh and to honor his rule. Over the years, it has witnessed numerous historical events, serving as a silent observer of the town's transformation. Surrounding the Ghanta Ghar, Lol Chowk is a vibrant and bustling intersection, where the old and new worlds of Anantnag coexist. The area is a confluence of diverse cultures, traditions, and communities. It is a hub of commercial activities, with a plethora of shops, markets, and businesses lining the streets around the clock tower. Here, one can find a variety of local goods, including traditional handicrafts, clothing, spices, and delicious street food, attracting tourists and locals alike. As the day unfolds, the streets around Ghanta Ghar become alive with the hustle and bustle of daily life. The sounds of honking horns, vendors calling out their wares, and the chatter of people create a lively atmosphere that embodies the essence of Anantnag. The clock tower stands tall amidst this vibrant chaos, a constant reminder of the town's history and an anchor for the community. Besides its commercial importance, Ghanta Ghar holds sentimental value for the residents of Anantnag. It has become a meeting point, a landmark for giving directions, and a gathering spot for social interactions. Families and friends often gather near the tower, enjoying the pleasant ambience and taking in the panoramic view of the surrounding area. Ghanta Ghar, with its timeless elegance, serves as a symbol of Anantnag's rich heritage and resilience. It stands as a testament to the town's enduring spirit, having withstood the test of time and witnessed the ups and downs of history. It has become an integral part of the town's identity, an icon that residents and visitors proudly associate with Anantnag. Visiting Ghanta Ghar and experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of Lol Chowk is an enchanting journey into the heart and soul of Anantnag. It offers a glimpse into the town's past, present, and future, all encapsulated within the walls of this magnificent structure. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a shopaholic, or simply a curious traveler, Ghanta Ghar and its surroundings are sure to leave an indelible mark on your memory. Published by :- Khaaksar

First of its kind in anantnag. Tri-colored lights have been installed representing the Indian National Flag. 4 big clocks have also been put in place on four sides. It looks stunning during the late hours as the lights shine bright.

Anantnag is always right place to visit as it is known by the name "city of springs". Peace, hospitality and love is the signature of natives. I strongly recommend this place for visitors to visit.
