I recently visited Koggala beach in down south Sri Lanka and was thoroughly impressed by its peaceful and pristine atmosphere. The beach was relatively uncrowded, making it easy to find a spot to relax and take in the stunning views. The water was crystal clear and the sand was soft and clean. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Koggala beach and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a calm and clean beach destination.

Tucked away in the south western corner of the country, Sri Lanka’s Koggala beach is a serene Paradise for beach lovers, far away from the busy bustle of city life. The unexplored and pristine beach of Koggala, with palm trees dotting the wide stretch of sand, is the longest beach of Sri Lanka. The open blue waters at Koggala Beach is one of the most popular destinations for watersports in Sri Lanka. Apart from a number of fish species, the waters of Koggala also abound in sea turtles and white sea sharks. The reef break in this region makes it a perfect spot for surfing enthusiasts. The rich marine life of the Sri Lankan waters in this region also provides a perfect diving and snorkeling opportunity. Windsurfing and Kitesurfing activities can also be enjoyed here. A number of small food shacks and restaurants line the beach, catering to the necessary requirements of its visitors. Hammocks and beachside chairs that line the place allows Koggala’s guests to simply lounge under the open sun and enjoy the rolling blue waters of the Indian Ocean. The scenic beach is an ideal locale to observe the stilt fisherman at work. These traditional fishermen, indeginous to the country, practice their art in a unique method and style, and are a sight to behold if never seen before.

Stayed in koggala beach hotel. Where it had a great private beach and nice rooms. The pool was nice and clean. The food could be improved. The welcome drink was nice. This hotel was the longest hotel in Sri Lanka, which at preset time it has been divided 4 hotels and extended. Amazing place to visit. Koggala was a beautiful location with many hotels and motels, small cafes mix boutiques, street food vendors along the roads. The entire journey is along the beach, where you could see the beautiful beaches and the wildlife.

This is also a beautiful beach situated in the southern coastline . A good place to relax watching the sunset and feeling the sea breeze. There is a kids park near the beach. There are fallen coconut trunks which I personally love to sit on 🤭 .

Very quite and beautiful beach. The Beach is very long and wide. Co parking to Negombo, this one is cleaner (Kogala Beach us very clean) and the send color is closer to white. If you are looking for a quite place for a family vacation, this choice is very good. If, on the other hand, you want to meet more people, go to Mirissa Beach.

Very calm & quite beach in the Down South. One of the best places to be relaxed with the view of the sunset and the sounds of the sea waves. Can reach the place very easy as it’s nearby the main road.( Matara-Colombo) Beach is very clean comparing with the other ones. It’s our duty to keep the place more undisturbed.

The beach is so beautiful. There are shallow areas with less strong sea waves so can have a bath even. There are so many beautiful scenes you can enjoy. Lovely place

Koggala beach is full of picture-perfect scenery and quiet coastal paths. Relatively uncrowded palm lined beaches, quaint temples and the islet dotted Koggala Lake mesmerize those seeking to escape the humdrum of city life.

Koggala has one of the longest beaches in Sri Lanka, and is located in close proximity to the popular tourist resort of Unawatuna, Koggala in comparison is relatively uncluttered as a tourist destination and mostly unexplored. Koggala was significantly affected by the tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, where the waters measured 9.3 metres high. It is the birthplace of noted Sri Lankan author Martin Wickramasinghe and there is a museum, Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum, dedicated to his arts and popular traditions in the town. Approximately 5 kilometres east of Koggala is the Kataluva Purvarama Maha Viharaya temple, which was originally built in the 13th century and has some late 19th century additions. The temple is renowned for its Kandyan-style paintings in the main shrine, dating from the late 19th century. The paintings of musicians, dancers and European figures illustrates an interesting piece of social history. Some of the Jatake tales (episodes from the Buddha's series of 550 previous lives) are painted here, and purportedly are 200 years old. There are also some cameo-style paintings of Queen Victoria and the Queen Mother, done in gratitude of Queen Victoria's role in ensuring the free practice of Buddhism outlined in the Kandyan capitulation of Lanka in 1815. Koggala is also the home to the Giniwella Kathaluwa and the ancient Temples. The Kathaluwa Buddhist temple is known for its murals and for the preserved first printing press, brought by the Dutch to Sri Lanka.

I went there with one of my friends. When we were traveling along the road, we have noticed the place and stopped our vehicle then we went there and took pictures. When we were leaving one of the strangers came and said "you have to pay for taking pictures" we said "we were not informed by anyone" so he let us go. When you are visiting this place be aware of this matter ✌️
