Made it to the 9 o’clock gun! πŸ’£πŸ•˜ Be there at 9pm and watch the gun fire, is something really cool to see. Nine O'Clock Gun History Originally, the Nine O'Clock Gun was located at the Brockton Point Lighthouse in Stanley Park. It was manually fired nightly by the lighthouse keeper exactly at 9pm so that people could set their timepieces. It was moved to the south side of Brockton Point in 1954. In 1986 the cannon was restored and a new secure building was built for it. On a few occasions, people have put rocks into the barrel and they were fired out. On one occasion a rock hit the sign of the floating gas station. The new building is meant to prevent this from happening. In 1969, the UBC Engineers 'kidnapped' the cannon in a stunt to raise money for the Children's Hospital. The Nine O'Clock gun also has its own parody Twitter account that goes 'Boom' at 9pm every night! @the9oclockgun The plaque on the gun says: NINE O'CLOCK GUN This gun is a naval-type twelve-pound muzzle-loader. Cast in 1816 at Woolwich, England. It was brought to Vancouver about 1894. The crests of King George III and of the Earl of Mulgrave Master General of Ordnance are on the barrel. The firing of the Nine O'Clock Gun is one of Vancouver's oldest traditions. With few exceptions, the gun has been fired every day at 9:00 PM for nearly a century.

This is an awesome and unique experience in Vancouver which is a hidden gem. I got to know about it from Downie Live YouTube videos and was lucky enough to meet the man himself as he is taking care of firing the nine o clock gun for a month. The view of the city downtown from this place is very amazing.

Be careful when walking the trail in the evening. I didn't know there would be a cannon that makes a super huge noise at 9 pm. Unfortunately, I was stopping by the cannon at that time, not knowing what it was. I was so surprised when I suddenly heard the sound. Anyway, this cannon was super cool since it looks antique, but it actually works.

2100 everyday this will fire, it does have warning lights to announce that you should stand back. Have seen people that haven’t and seen them shook. You genuinely should have hearing protection if you’re going to stand close. Definitely something unique and cool, especially in a public park.

I love visiting and photographing the 9 o'clock gun, it's one of my favorite little projects to shoot. It's both easy and complicated to photograph. You only have one chance a night to get the perfect photograph and then you have to come back another night to do it all again. I've shot it from underneath at low tide, from up close, from afar, from all different angles, and I still enjoy going back to photograph it. I highly recommend visiting this place, even if you're a local. It's amazing and really loud. It goes off every night at 9, so make sure to get there early as the parking lot fills up. I just can't say enough good about the 9 o'clock gun, I love it so much! And then after I like to go around the park taking night shots of the city and the Lions Gate bridge.

Nice scenic view of downtown from this spot. It’s located in the middle of Stanley park. This gun is fired daily at 09:00 PM with loud noise.

It went off at 8:57 and I feel like the echo throughout the city was more impressive than the cannon blast itself. Overall I really enjoyed it!

The clock is located inside the Stanley Park and it’s one of the best places in the Park to see the city skyline, both day and night. If you want good pictures of Vancouver that’s definitely a good choice. Everyday at 9PM the Gun Fires. As it’s a really quick event it’s recommend to arrive on site some minutes prior to 9PM and get a good spot to watch and record it.

This was pretty cool! The gun goes off every night at nine o'clock. We were lucky enough to see this every night from our hotel room. And we rode bikes around the seawall to see it close up.

Sadly we came, we saw, we did not hear. Stood waiting from 840 to 920 for a cannon blast that was shot off at 7 in support of Covid workers 😞

It's awesome to stay here and watch the gun go off. It can be very loud so be careful if you have children. We love to stand with our coffees and watch this go off. There is plenty of parking so do not worry about that. Also it's not busy, I would recommend this once atleast, if you live in Vancouver.

We had no idea this existed, and as we sat at the convention center enjoying a beautiful sunset - BANG! Scared us half to death, but once we found out what this is, it was interesting to learn the history.

Despite knowing It fire earlier still caught by surprise it's a full minute earlier now and the amount of powder charge it have now. The warning is now 10 second before. Instead of the 1 minute or 30 seconds I don' remember flashing yellow warning as before. Something makes me think the manager did this on purpose to surprise and mess with people especially seems to put more powder inside the canon bag now it's summer and tourist season.

An explosive charge in the gun goes off at 9am and 9pm. It's a Vancouver landmark and has a great view. My friends and I watched the Canada Day fireworks from right behind it.

A piece of Canadian history while enjoying a walk in the park. Wait at 9pm for a short Ka-Boom entertainment. Set your camera timer for 3 seconds aligned with your mobile phone time and you might just get the perfect shot.

Being from the UK you see a lot of wartime guns and cannons mounted across the country. However I was amazed to learn that they still fire this gun every night at 9pm.
