A serene place to spend time with family and friends while enjoying watching the sea. The fort is well maintained and overall clean. On one side, there was an isolated beach. Whereas on the other side was a beach with some tourists. We could also see the windmills far away. There's nothing much to see otherwise. We were hoping to catch the sunset from this, but unfortunately, it closes by 5 pm. It's better to go there early when it opens around 10 am or just before it closes in the evening to avoid the peak sun. Entry Fee: Rs 25/- They have enough dedicated parking spaces, and vehicles can be parked on the roadsides as well.

Fort is well maintained and nothing much for sight seeing. If you have a plan to visit this place,I would recommend to visit there in the morning and evening time, so you could enjoy great scenarios from the top of the fort. Lawns are very well maintained. They collect entrance fees. It would be a good place for family picnic as kids can play in the broad lawn.

Perfect tourist spot and historical location. From kanyakumari around 5km to reach this destination. Many films were taken here. Perfect spot for photographers. You can see many windmill and kudamkulam atomic power station from this Fort. Entry tickets for adult is 25 INR and free for children below 15 years. Inside the Fort large pond is available, once upon a time it used for military purpose. RO water available inside the Fort. If you are going along with your family, then it would be perfect spot. There are huge green lawns which so good to see. Be careful while taking photo near Fort top location, it may slippery. Don't walk in the Fort edge and don't do any stunt near the wall. You can see Large neem tree while enter and also in upstairs. The two tree is perfect spot for releax and photography. Note: This place is meeting point for lovers, when we enter along with family lot of pairs in and around in the Fort. Which make us embarrassed and discomfort while seeing the architecture.

Vattakottai Fort or 'Circular Fort' is a seaside fort near Kanyakumari , Tamilnadu the southern tip of India. It was built in the 18th century as a coastal defence-fortification and barracks in the erstwhile Travancore kingdom. It was constructed in the 18th century by the kings of Travancore, Later it was modified under the supervision of Captain De Lannoy, an ex-Dutch naval officer of the Dutch East India Company, who became commander of the Travancore Army (the very army that defeated him in the Battle of Colachel) in the 18th century, after he earned the trust of the Travancore King Marthanda Varma. De Lannoy reconstructed Vattakottai, as part of the defence-fortifications he undertook throughout Travancore. The fort is made of granite blocks and, today, a part of the fort extends into the sea. It is a protected site under the Indian archaeological department. A major renovation of the fort was undertaken recently by the department, and the site is now a popular tourist spot. Vattakottai Fort commands a picturesque view of both the sea on the one side, and the hills (Western ghats) on the other. Another interesting feature near the site is a beach of black sands. It is about 7 km (4.3 mi) from Kanyakumari town.

Fantastic view of the roaring seas. Well maintained. Sturdy granites, green trees, waves crashing against the shore and clear blue sky creates a peaceful atmosphere. You can also see the wind farm at a distance along the Bay of Bengal coast.

A good place to visit in morning or evening. Not recommended on afternoon. The sea view from fort is breathtaking. There is entry fee and parking fee. There is also vattakottai beach which is near by. Need to climb steps and walk to visit the views. It is 10 minutes away from Sunrise point.

Very nice scene. We can enjoy the beauty of ocean from this fort nicely. Before going to Kanyakumari , if enough time is there, have a look here... Not a very big place. But the scenic beauty is good.......nice photo you can take here❤️

The place gives great views of the Sea and Windmills farms. Entry fee is 25rs per person and has parking space with an extra 25rs per vehicle. The ground floor has some greenery and pond. The top floor gives the awesome views. It's not a typical fort, more of an enclosed area with high walls. Also these days it seems to be more of a space for couples, than a tourist place.

Such a beautiful and peaceful place along the shores 💕💕 Please keep in mind to reserve an auto or go by personal vehicle. Ask the driver to wait and return accordingly because it's not as huge as normal forts are ... So it hardly requires around 30 mins of your time and no auto is available in that particular place. You have to walk around 900m to reach the main road where plenty of bus and auto are available.

A calm and serene place. No crowd but just the noise of sea waters and breeze. Good stress buster. Since it is under an archeological site, they collect entrance fees which are a little high for this small location. However, the place is well maintained. We can spend 1 hour enjoying and taking excellent snaps.

Nice one near to kanyakumari. Well maintained. Good place to visit in the evening. Near to the sea. Vattakottai Fort is the last sea fort which was built by Travancore kingdom during 18th century during. It was constructed for coastal defense. It's near to Kanyakumari beach. The stunning view of ocean on one side and the mystical Western Ghats on the other side is the attraction of Vattakottai.

It's a really great place to chill out with. Nothing much in terms of amusements inside the fort. I would say it's a perfect photo spot and your kids will love to run and play there (Maintain caution near the steps though). Sadly the closing time is very soon. I would recommend them to be open atleast till 6:30pm or till sunset as visiting this place during day time in summer will be inconvenient. Pro tip: The rocks doesn't absorb heat and you can sit on them freely even when the sun is high👍🏻

Just a barren fort built by King Marthanda Varma. Was amazed to see the rocks cut and stacked perfectly. Wonder how they cut the stones that time without any machinery.

The site is cleanly maintained inside...you can spend 30 minutes inside the facility and then if you want in beach. Parking area is limited to 20 cars and floors are severely damaged. ₹25 is collected for cars and again ₹25 for everyone who enters ... The site could be better maintained with a garden and some more trees , a snacks and tea shop etc. Lot other things can be done to attract tourists and facilities for them.

Beautiful views of the ocean from the walls of the fort. Very scenic and photogenic. If you are a foreign national, be ready to shell our 300₹ per ticket. In that case, if you ask me - it is not worth the money. Lucky for me, I had my Indian ID with me, so I got in by only paying 25₹👍 It's is quite a massive fort with many neem trees inside and a few little corners where one could sit and relax peacefully. Historically it is also quite interesting, built in 18th century (if my memory does not fail me) to protect the harbour of Kanyakumari, which was also known as the pearl harbour.

This fort was an outpost of the travancore rajas and used to accommodate the soldiers and their artillery. This was later occupied by the Dutch and stood the test of time mostly intact. Entry is 20rs per head and entry for children below 12 is free. However, be ready to face the distress of booking tickets through the process listed in the board that they have with a QR code. The network connection in the area is really weak to add on the this. You can snap wonderful photos in this place and they charge 250rs for allowing photo shoot sessions.

The 18th century Travancore kingdom's coastal defence fortification is a seaside fort. We can see huge walls made up of granite stones, and some huge steps to climb on the top region of the fort. There was nothing to see anything useful, since only huge walls and some trees. Not many sun shades for the tourists, we need to sit/stand under some random trees. And not to forget to mention that we can have a beautiful view of the sea. There is an entry fee for everyone, but it is free for children under 15. And lastly the steps are very huge and deep so elderly people need to care before arriving at this tourist place.

It's an immaculate fort resting on the beaches looking towards the blue fabric of sea and sky! Incredible views with beautiful beach on its sides. A must visit place

  • 5/5 Sattyam T. 6 months ago on Google
The fort is now in ruins. Very little can be found inside the fort but the view of the Indian Ocean is mesmerizing from the fort. One can spend hours looking at the ocean and clicking photos. Apart from that there is nothing inside the fort as it is a very small fort which was constructed as a outpost for protecting the main fort. There is a pond in the center of the lake for collecting the rainwater which is now used by ASI to maintain the greenery inside the fort. The fort is 8 Kms away from the Kanyakumari and hence it is recommended to hire an auto for the fort who will be waiting for you to return from the fort as there is no other option available to return from the fort. Entry fees is Rs 25 per person.

Vattakottai Fort is a well-preserved 18th-century coastal fortress that stands on a granite hill overlooking the Arabian Sea. The name "Vattakottai" translates to "circular fort" in the local language, Tamil. The fort is constructed in a circular shape and is made of granite blocks, giving it a unique and distinctive appearance. One of the notable features of Vattakottai Fort is its strategic location, which offers breathtaking views of the sea and the surrounding coastline. The fort is situated between the roaring sea and lush greenery, creating a picturesque setting that attracts tourists and history enthusiasts alike. The fort's architecture showcases a blend of European and Indian influences, reflecting its historical significance during the colonial era. It is believed to have been built by the Travancore kingdom as a coastal defense fortification against potential invasions. The sturdy walls, bastions, and watchtowers are testaments to its defensive capabilities. Inside the fort, there is a small temple dedicated to Lord Ganapathi, which adds a religious touch to the site. Visitors can explore the fort's interior, walk along the walls, and enjoy panoramic views of the sea. The fort's surrounding area also offers scenic spots for photography and relaxation. While Vattakottai Fort is a captivating place to visit, it's worth noting that the site is relatively small compared to some other forts in India. Visitors usually spend a short amount of time exploring the fort before moving on to other attractions in the region. It is recommended to combine a visit to Vattakottai Fort with other nearby tourist spots like Kanyakumari Beach, Vivekananda Rock Memorial, and Thiruvalluvar Statue for a more comprehensive experience. In conclusion, Vattakottai Fort is an intriguing historical site that offers a glimpse into India's past and provides stunning views of the Arabian Sea. Its unique circular design, beautiful surroundings, and historical significance make it a worthwhile destination for travelers interested in exploring the cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu.

A less famous spot near to Kanyakumari, but amazing ambience if there is no much sunlight. Very calm and peaceful atmosphere. Historical information available is very minimal. The aesthetics isn't maintained, or have lost that long back. Beautiful scene of southern most tip of western ghats, wind mills. The statue of Thiruvalluvar isn't so visible from here which was a surprise.

Huge disappointment. Took great pains to in include this is in the itinerary but was disappointed to see the place being closed evrn though I reached around 3.45pm. Every where it was mentioned it is open till 5pm so I was well within that time. Even local folks had mentioned you can reach by 4pm also. There is no mention of the revised timings anywhere. Might be because of covid but atleast info should have been updated. Also, I hit to know that it's actually not much of a Fort but a huge wall enclosure to act as deterrent from Tsunami like high waves.
