A great Park for public and tourism. Perfect place for spending time in Summer, and spring seasons. So close to Roman Theater which you don't have to start your car to get the Roman Theater. When you go there , like you hit 2 birds by one stone. Really a very good chance to visit two great places so close together. There are a several parts for sitting and relax after walking around. Free entry no payment.

A great roman Nymphaeum that is in a good situation until today even if a full part no longer exist. A must visit for locals and tourists and it is only few meters away from the roman theater so you can't really skip it. Enjoy the magic of this place.

A small historical monument nested between the city’s buildings. The visit should be quick but it is nice to marvel at the architecture. You need the roman amphitheater ticket in order to get in the place. A nice stop along the way if discovering amman

Its a very old roman building in the heart of amman. Still renovating. Cant go inside but can look from outside. Just a walking distance from great roman theater at amman downtown . Niceolace but need to read to read before you go there. No guide to ask .

You can see the best part from outside. So even if it's closed is worth it to go anyway... Just 5 min and then you can go to the next stop.

Another remarkable remnant of old Roman Decapolis city of Philadelphia, the Nymphaeum of Amman is the largest in the region of its kind. Even in its partial preservation state, it is larger than the public fountains in Jerash, Umm Qays (Gadara) and Petra. It was built in 191 AD next to a river that now lies under the modern road behind. It was dedicated to the water nymphs. A paved plaza was laid in front of it for public access and gatherings. Architectural decorative elements are laid around that testify of the former grandeur of the edifice. You can appreciate animal and human figures including a lion, lioness and a male bust (the head of which is displayed inside the Jordan Archaeological Museum at the Citadel). One of the small niches still have some original marble cladding next to the ground. The site was under restoration and preservation from 1993 until October 2018 when the site was reopened as the Nymphaeum Archaeological Park in Amman. There are nine informative signboards and a small 3D model of the Nymphaeum as it would have looked like in its glory days. The site metal door might be closed during business hours, but a guard is usually inside. If so, draw his attention to open it and enjoy this new renovated addition to the bustling historic center of Amman. A must see with the added bonus of being free of charge.

The way of the nymphs is a nymphium located on the side of the torrent of Amman in the center of the Jordanian capital. [1] [2] [3] It dates back to the Roman period the second century AD and the building in general is considered aesthetic construction. It is one of the important and public buildings in Roman cities, and the Jordanian Antiquities Department is conducting archaeological techniques at the site to show it properly.

I managed to enter without any ticket. The gate was locked but the attendant arrived and opened it for me and a few other tourists. The place is not well kept and is not very clean with a lot of feral cats present. The nearby shops and hotels distracts from the grandeur of the Nymphaeum. A number of carts used by sellers of meat and vegetables are parked outside of the gate. It would be good if the authorities pay some attention to keeping the place clean and the front of the gate cleared.

Gorgeous historic place.. it wasn't open when I got there, but the guide opened the gates for me so i could have a real quick look around.. something to note, the surrounding areas are quite dirty because it is situated opposite a busy market.i feel the authorities should look into enforcing cleanliness in the area

The Roman Nymphaeum was closed but since we had our guide from the walking tour he knows the guy securing the doors inside the area. The place is such a bizarre spot because it is in the bustling city of Amman. I like how they still preserve the remaining remnants of the Nympheaum and you can have a closer look on how it was made. Great spot during Amman historic exploration.

Nice place in the heart of Amman! In the center of old down town of Amman, close to the Roman Theatre, museums, old shops, restaurants, and many souvenirs shops. Free car parkings are available but not the whole day, other parkings are available for cheap waves. Recommended.

This is an amazing monument. You breathe history while walking.

  • 4/5 Noud F. 4 years ago on Google
Magnificent plaza with the famous Roman theatre. Right at the center of the capital, a small walk down from the citadel and included in the Jordan pass. You should always try to visit this one even if you're only in Amman for a day. There is a small museum on-site but don't expect the same extent as the one in the citadel itself. Be cautious though, when raining or just after the stone floors and steps of the plaza and theatre can be deceivingly slippery. If you're really into it you could probably spend one or multiple hours here discovering the little details but most people only spend about 30 minutes here so traffic is high unfortunately.

The Nymphaeum is a partially preserved Roman public fountain in Amman, Jordan. It is located a short distance from the Hashemite Plaza, the Roman Theater and the Odeon, at the crossing of Ibn al-Atheer and Quraysh streets in al-Balad. Such fountains were very popular in Roman cities, and Philadelphia, as Amman was known by ancient Greeks and Romans, was no exception. This nymphaeum is believed to have contained a 600 square meters pool which was three meters deep and was continuously refilled with water.

We were walking past when the ruins caught our eye. The gate was locked, but the guard came and ushered us in. He then was both friendly and determined to guide us to all the highlights and help us pose for pictures. We did leave a small tip but didn't feel pressured to do so, rather we enjoyed the tour we received!
