The
National
Museum
in
the
Yemeni
capital,
Sanaa:
It
dates
back
to
the
beginning
of
the
seventies
and
is
located
in
the
capital's
secretariat
near
Tahrir
Square.
History
of
the
museum
The
National
Museum
in
Sana'a,
Yemen,
was
established
in
1971
in
a
house
called
Dar
Al-Shukr,
which
is
one
of
the
Imami
palaces
and
is
located
near
Bab
Al-Sabah,
next
to
the
Dome
of
Al-Mutawakkil
Mosque
in
Tahrir
Square,
Sana'a
City
Center.
At
the
time,
the
museum
contained
two
main
sections,
one
for
antiquities
and
the
other
for
folklore,
then
a
section
for
Islamic
antiquities
was
prepared.
The
museum
recently
moved
to
the
House
of
Happiness,
located
next
to
the
House
of
Thanksgiving.
The
House
of
Happiness
was
chosen
to
be
a
national
museum
for
the
Republic
of
Yemen,
given
its
breadth
enough
to
accommodate
the
growing
archaeological
holdings
and
the
importance
of
its
location
as
it
was
restored
to
accommodate
the
effects
of
ancient
Yemeni
kingdoms
and
Islamic
states
and
their
stages
in
the
country,
and
plans
are
being
made
to
expand
it
in
a
modern
way.
As
for
the
House
of
Thanksgiving,
although
it
became
a
museum
for
the
popular
heritage
in
1991
AD,
it
has
been
closed
for
years
due
to
the
lack
of
adequate
support
and
equipment.
The
museum
underwent
extensive
restoration
and
maintenance
work
in
the
early
2000s.
The
museum
was
opened
again
on
May
28,
2006
after
the
restoration
was
completed,
many
rare
monuments
were
added,
and
the
museum
was
restructured.
