This is a great option for a cheap meal with good quality product. It's counter service and has been in business since 1963. It lacks for nothing as the line moved steadily, and you most definitely can tell they have their regulars. My fiancé and I split a bbq and chicken breast plate for $12 & some change. It included baked beans, potato salad, and 3 hush puppies. We subbed fries in lieu of the potato salad. With the chicken, you get choice of fried thigh or breast + dark or white meat. This is self seating. She calls out your name for your order and you pay at a separate location than from where you place your order. BBQ sauces was really good and they have them for purchase if you wish to take it home. If you're wheelchair bound, please know the bathrooms are not exactly ADA accessible. The establishment has booths on one side and table on the other. Small parking lot, but still enough for you to park. We came in at peak lunch and there were spots available. Overall, solid experience for good cheap eats.

I had a bbq plate with hushpuppies and cole slaw. Then as a side, baked beans and a Broasted Chicken breast. The hushpuppies and Broasted chicken breast were the best. Furnelle was a great greeter, server and cashier. She made me feel right at home.

Best chicken in Asheville! While this old school true Asheville classic is the oldest running BBQ joint in Asheville, it is the broasted chicken that is the true draw. Don’t miss out! Coke products, plenty of free parking. Convenient to Mission Hospital & Biltmore Village.

Absolutely the best bbq sandwich with slaw and the best hot ff ever!!! Love the quaint atmosphere. Memories of eating their with my Mom growing up. Good service with a smile. Even came by our table to check on whether we needed anything. Wonderful place!

So the presentation needs some work, but the chicken, and pork were pretty decent. The bbq sauce was interesting, but worked with the pork. The potato salad was the highlight for me, while the beans, slaw, and ribs weren’t my preference. The staff was kind, and the service was quick. I’m mixed on if I’d return here, but it’s not a bad option if you’re in the area.

Fantastic old time BBQ. Surprised us how good the “broasted” chicken was. Sides also excellent — ESPECIALLY the hush puppies! Wow!! Get the combo bbq/chicken plate and leave with a smile. 👍🏻

Quick Summary The fried chicken is very good here and it's what I recommend to get. Good service in this fast food joint with plenty of parking Food- 4 stars BBQ combo plate- the fried chicken was very good and juicy (I ordered the thigh). I was a bit disappointed by the pulled pork though (not as much flavor as I expected). Hush puppies and coleslaw were good Service- 5 stars Pretty friendly throughout our fast food experience Bottom Line Highly recommend the fried chicken. Good spot for a quick meal

It wasn’t the worst bbq I’ve ever had, but it was close. There was no flavor. Even the sauce was bland. The coleslaw and potato salad were bland. It’s like they are afraid to use seasonings. If you want cheap and quick this is the place to go. If you want food that tastes good, hop on the freeway and go to Phil’s in Black Mountain.

Ordered a pulled pork tray with a side of onion rings. Hush puppies were fantastic. Slaw was okay. Onion rings had very little flavor. Pulled pork had great flavor, great smoke, but was barely warm, close to room temperature. Would hope it would be hotter; might be better as a to go order reheated at your destination.

While on my way back home to Charlotte from Asheville I decided to stop by here and grab something to go to have for dinner tonight. I was just driving by and I’m a sucker for an old school spot so I swerved in immediately to see what they had going on. Soon as I walked in, it was like taking a step back in time which I absolutely loved. Seems old school places are becoming a thing of the past in Charlotte, so I was beyond thrilled to walk in here. I got the chicken and rib meal with slaw and beans. It was absolutely delicious. You can tell they perfected their recipes years ago and that’s why they’re still in business now. My only regret is I didn’t find out abt them sooner during my time in Asheville because I would certainly love to dine in. The staff was very friendly and welcoming which I loved.

Broasted chicken is so tender and juicy. BBQ sauce is classic, not sweet. The coleslaw, and potato salad was home made and just right. Highly recommended if you like classic BBQ. No frills, just good.

Delicious! Regular BBQ plate was good amount. The BBQ sandwich was terrific. Chicken was also great. Service was great and fast. We(4)went for early dinner and not too busy ~3-4. I forgot to take a pic but ate everything on my plate.

Quick and friendly service. Mostly pulled pork and chicken. The pulled pork was moist and tender. Not much in the way of a smoke flavor. The sauce makes the meat interesting. The hush puppies were good and mildly sweet. The cole slaw was good. Overall it was good but not good enough to tempt me to try another dish.

EVERYTHING we ordered was GREAT...ESPECIALLY the hushpuppies & onion rings!! (I'd drive to JUST gets those!) Really good pulled pork & fried chicken too. We'll be BACK! 😋

The broasted chicken is delicious- perfectly seasoned. The bbq pork was dry and didn’t really taste like anything. The sides were okay, hush puppies very dense. Lemon pie- tasty. Very tarty. Service was fast.

Got the BBQ rib combo plate. The meat was tender and flavorful but the real star of the show were the hush puppies, I could’ve eaten an entire plate of them! Solid comfort BBQ at a great value!

Meh. Ok, but not good or great. I ordered the combo plate. The Hushpuppies were the best thing. The beans tasted like pork and beans from a can. Pork was flavorless and there was only one bbq sauce. Ribs were tender at least.

I decided to give this bbq place a try as I’ve driven past it numerous times. I don’t know if it was an off time (3:30pm) therefore the food wasn’t as good as it might normally have been. The worker behind the counter I ordered the food from was not friendly at all and seemed put out with my order. A chopped pork bbq sandwich. It came with coleslaw already on it and supposedly sauce. This is how I normally prefer my sandwich. The pork was tender and had a nice char to it but there wasn’t any smokiness to the taste and it was almost cold. The coleslaw was bland and the barely there sauce might have had some vinegar in it but that was the only obvious flavor. It was a good amount of meat and slaw for under $6.50. The cashier was a bright spot in that place and was very sweet and helpful.

The oldest BBQ restaurant in Asheville does not disappoint! They don't have a huge array of sauces, just the two classics, but they seem to be well loved. Meals start around $6 for a sandwich. With a side and drink, I'd plan on around $12 per person. The staff was friendly and the hush puppies were great.

I'm convinced the people who have eaten here and left good reviews have never had a good plate of bbq. BBQ was flavorless. The bbq sauce tasted like ketchup. No seasoning on the fries and beans straight out of the can. Although, the sweet tea was good.

Outstanding! This little place has been open since 1963 for good reason. The pork was so tender. The slaw chopped fine. The lemon pie was so good!

Went for lunch today, got the BBQ plate which included slaw, beans, pulled pork, hush puppies. Also had their hot dog with sauce, slaw, and onions. Dog was fantastic, plump and juicy with all the toppings, very good. The pork has good smokiness with a really juicy fall-apart tenderness. We used their brown bbq sauce with the vinegar and mustard style and wow did it make that pork sing! The hush puppies were on the sweet side, the beans were solid but I did add a bit of sauce to punch them up a tick, and the slaw was again solid with the plate.

Really good for the price and was very clean! Will definitely be back!
