An easy ascent, the steps are in good repair and quite even. Worth the climb and the small fee. I'm certain Basho didn't climb the mountain with thousands of tourists. The sense of inspiration was spoiled slightly by the clamour of iPhone shutter sound effects. Try to visit midweek, or out of season, although the autumn colours are spectacular.

It is recommended to reserve more than two hours for a more leisurely visit. If you only want to take pictures in the Fifth Hall, it will take about an hour.

The main attraction of a complex of temples collectively referred to as Yamadera. Had been looking forward to visiting and was not disappointed, but ... Went very early on a holiday weekend, and it was pretty busy. The scale somewhat limits crowding, but it was starting to get crazy when we left and we passed a huge traffic jam, so consider the season when planning a visit. Also, it could be quite a climb for some and the weather can be a factor. There are many interesting things to see along the way to the top, but not many English explanations.

Absolutely stunning in the winters, and takes barely a 30 min hike to reach up here.

Power spot✨ It takes about 30 minutes for adults to climb the mountain, and the temples and spectacular views that appear are wonderful ^_^

A beautiful temple complex on a cliff of a mountain. The scenery from the observation deck is gorgeous. It was worth the effort to climb the 1000 stairs.

Nice view after a short hike. It closes by 17:30 so sunset can or cannot be viewed depending on the season

It's like being in an ink painting, it's so beautiful and it's worth the trip. The stairs all the way up the mountain to worship are super slippery, so be careful and walk slowly without nail claws. There are also an endless stream of tourists from Taiwan and Hong Kong, and it is famous.

Breathtaking views of the town below and the Vally. You can really take in the scenery that inspired Basho.

I’ve been to a lot of temples in Japan but I can say that this one tops them all, the view from the top is stunning and the small village at the top is unexpectedly beautiful, the most Japanese temple I’ve seen with a lot of concrete figures I can’t determine but its amazing, there are lot of sealing paper that was attached in every corners in the buildings and some on the big trees. I got pretty nervous since I didn’t wear snow shoes and most of the stairs are covered with snow but I did explore most of the areas. You must go back to the entrance at 4pm it’s not really a hard climb since you will enjoy the scenery while walking up.

It's such a wonderful place. You will be sweating until you reach the highest point. The view is amazing. Park your car nearby for 300-500 yen. The admission fee is 300 yen. There wasn't much snow this year, and today's view was especially spectacular.

An absolutely breathtaking place to see the entire valley down below. It is worth the 1015 steps for sure.

Shoking view that change its appearance rapidly in windy days. At particular angle, visitors can take a photo that include shrine, town, mountain, sky, snow and amazing cloud at once.
