Good food, but somehow rude to foreigners. I was presented the menu but did not understand some of it, so I checked my mobile to check what it meant. The waitress must have believed that I was distracted, so she told me to hurry up only a couple of minutes afterwards. I was next to the entrance, but they still opened the door wide, so I was freezing. At the end, I was presented the bill even though my plate wasn't finished. Way too much attitude and not enough taste.

Sanpei is a pretty small but really awesome and adorable Okonomiyaki restaurant. The food is great and the atmosphere is really authentic. If you have any special requests, like Okonomiyaki without meat, just ask the chef and he will make a custom Okonomiyaki for you. It is difficult to find, hidden inside a building with lots of other shops, but it's definitely worth searching for.

Since it's a bit hard to find, I'm uploading the pictures of the building, so I hope it will be easier for future guests to find it. Food is delicious, the place is cozy and quiet, English menu available.

The chef/owner is very focused and serious but does an amazing job, especially once the place fills up. We were his first clients of the day which was good since we had two little kiddos with us. The beef tendon with a little bit of kimchi was very tasty and tender. The seafood pork belly okonomiyaki was simply amazing. The chef helpfully cut it into 6 pieces to accommodate the kids without us even thinking to ask for, vs. the typical quarters. The seafood soy sauce butter yakisoba the best we have had yet, with delicately soft squid, octopus, and a meaty shrimp that isn't the standard fare one-it cooks red instead of orange and was fairly sense, almost like langostine tails. We liked that the place was a bit odd the touristy trail, tucked away down the hallway off the front (E/W st.) of the corner building (look for the red lantern) after Google Maps gets you close (there is another okonomiyaki place around the corner on the N/S Street side). Seemed frequented by locals during lunch when we went which can be a good sign. Nothing was too salty there, despite the hefty dribbles of "sauce", so you could taste all the ingredient, especially the sweet vegetables. Two dishes others got that looked interesting was an steak rolled in egg, and their green onion okonomiyaki. We will have to visit the best places when we return to Tokyo to see if they can even compare, but we won't hold our breath.

Waited for 1 hr to this. Boss and employee is nice and friendly. They dont force u to leave after your meal. They accommodate kids as well, so i gave full stars! Food served is good, scallop is a must order item. Cook food in front of you. Beer and alcohol are sold at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

An intimate shop with delicious food. We ordered the pork noodles cuttlefish okonomiyaki and the shrimp parilla. Great to watch it get assembled and cooked in front if you. The noodles and cuttlefish added a great texture and the pork was crispy! The shrimp okonomiyaki was much lighter and equally as tasty. Would recommend!

Simple and no nonsense restaurant! Very tasty omurice and gyoza. Very affordable too. Service was quick, you can order on your phone with a qr code, so English translation is available. Despite being in the busy Dotonbori area, not very expensive. Haven't tried the okonomiyaki though!

The okonomiyaki was fantastic! We had to wait for a brief period outside as the restaurant only has a few seats. Sitting at the bar and watching the chef cook was a great experience. The food was absolutely delicious. I am vegetarian and the mochi cheese okonomiyaki was amazing. I would eat here again and again if I could!!

Worth the wait once you are inside and seated at the bar area tucking in to the delicious Okonomiyaki whipped up by the incredible, hard-working Chef here. We opted for the Trio which was surprisingly generous when split between two. Very good value all considered too. They only accept cash and do be prepared for a wait due to the limited number of seats inside.

Small place with a single bar with about a dozen seat. They prepare your okonomiyaki on the grill right in front of you and you basically eat it right off the grill. Kinda fun. The okonomiyaki was good but the fried udon dish was forgettable. The entrance is about 15’ down a hallway from the street.

Good okonomiyaki in an unassuming location. Boss welcomed us and made a good meal for us. No reservations, one English menu, clean and cosy environment.

Visited here after I could not wait the line for other famous okonimiyaki restaurants. The restaurant is quite small and operated by 3 people. There are about 15 seats, so you might have to wait if there is no seat available. Also, there are only 1-2 people cooking, so you might have to wait a fair bit of time for your okonomiyaki to be cooked. However, the foods were worth the wait. It was very delicious, and the ingredients looked fresh.

A very popular Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) restaurant. They have very few seats and don't accept reservations so be prepared to wait. They will cook everything in front of you so the non-cooking experts can relax. The food was great, but not the best place if you want a relaxing meal. They won't accept any additional food orders to keep the pace up so make sure you get everything covered on the first try! Crowd Size: Very High (15min wait) Serving Speed: Average Payment Method: Cash Only (with coupon)

I do love this restaurant! It’s quite private and delicious! But it’s a little bit hard to find by the location. You have to walk inside the building. It’s located on the 1st floor.

Waited a bit in a line but it was worth it as you can watch your dish come to life right in front of you! Amazing experience and amazing food, thank you!

[American Tourist Review] English Menu: Available, by request English Speaking Staff: Somewhat Japanese Required: No The restaurant was a bit hard to find since there are so many tiny restaurants surrounding. We went for dinner and was met with a pretty long line, taking maybe 30 to 45 minutes before being brought in for a counter seat. An English menu was brought to us after the workers saw us Google Translating the full menu, and we were able to order after flagging down a staff member. Overall the staff seems to be available and happy to help when needed, but don't actively check up on you. After ordering, the Okonomiyaki is cooked on demand, which is why there is usually a wait at these places, since the restaurant even warns it takes about 20 minutes or so before its finished. Being at a counter was cool as you can see it being made in front of you, and if you happen to be at one of the middle counter seats, they drop it off right onto the area in front of you. We were on a side counter so they had to bring it to us. They do drop it off on the metal sheet so you can cut it while it's hot and put a slice on your own plate. A fun dish that definitely is very social and casual to eat! The restaurant is intimate and the staff was fairly young, making for a more relaxed and laid-back dinner. Check was given upon request and was able to pay up front with cash after it was given!

Hidden gem for okonomiyaki, cosy place with just around 12 seats. Popular amongst locals

Food was really good! Okonomiyaki was very special and cooked perfectly by the chef in front of us. Yummy! Could be on the salty side tho.

We had the 3 small okonomiyaki set, each was delicious in its own way but the best in my opinion was the kimchi pork. The shop is tucked away in a building and the one man army/chef was awesome.

Meals prepared in front of you, very fresh and tasty! I recommend the shrimp okononiyaki with double cheese, so delicious! Super nice staff, unfortunately the restaurant is a bit hidden, you have to turn from the main street inside small corridor. Location on Google Maps was not so accurate.

Excellent okonomiyaki! I highly recommend it! The chef will prepare it in front of you, english menus available & the staff speaks basic English. You will be able to get around and order. I recommend the seafood okonmiyaki! Photos & video below! Enjoy! PS it’s a bit tricky to find the entrance, it’s on a corridor on the left (photo below).
