W O N D E R F U L! The staff is really friendly, quick service, great location, good price. The food was sooo delicious. We had Thanasis Kebab, it was great! Additionally, they are dog-friendly. We had the best lunch here during this trip. 100% recommended!

Have been here a few times many years ago and always have had good experiences. Brought new friends to eat here - food was great (although the gyro was a bit dry so we asked for more tzatziki). Staff were very busy so not as attentive as one would like. Atmosphere was great as it is in the bustling heart of Athens. Would definitely return as it is very close to my heart ❤️

First time in Athens and stumbled across this place. Highly recommend to place. ⛔WARNING to new tourists visiting Athens ; Stay away from places where they AGGRESSIVELY CAT CALL you to come and eat at their restaurant. ⛔ If you see tourists only and no locals at any restaurant stay far away. Its like going to a Japanese restaurant where the people eating are all white folks.

We were recommended here by a local. We were seated right away at an outside table. The walking path between the resturants was very busy with a lot of people walking so we were right in the middle of the action. The food came out quick and hot and delicious. The portions were large. The tzatziki was the best I've ever had. I wish we would had gotten two orders. Overall, this restaurant was a great experience for our meal in Athens.

This came highly recommended from our tour guide as it has a very long tradition. We saw the founder still working there supervising the workers. It is a touristy place but it is worth trying their food as it does feel special due to it's history. We tried the gyros which was nice, but the Thanasis kebab was truly impressive, very juicy and very tasty. Service was quick, staff was nice, the wine was decently priced. Pro tip is to get some tzatziki on the side as it makes life better.

Nice place with the Greek food and atmosphere. It is just near Monastiraki square. The meals were really good and tasty. Service was good at well. Consider the rush hours of the lunch when you visit. Overall it a good choice to have your lunch or dinner in the area.

Clean, fast-paced restaurant. Great staff, all polite with proficient English. Good prices for location, and 10/10 gyros 🤌🏼 Also recommend the green salad, delicious! Been many times, and will go many more. Only wish they had a vegetarian option for the wraps, halloumi or falafel for example.

We googled gyros and this restaurant came up with good reviews. It was pretty busy but we got seated straight away. Order was taken within 5-7 minutes and it arrived within 10 minutes. Food was yummy and service was excellent. We ate here due to chicken being halal. Will definitely be visiting again.

Excellent and busy place for authentic kebabs and souvlaki. The service was very good. Every morsel of food is very tasty. Watching the unending crowds go by was also amazing! This part of Athens (Monasteraki) never sleeps. This place was recommended to us by a local we met earlier who worked there at younger age.

Oh my gosh the food was amazing!!! I had ….; which could easily feed two people (I didn’t get to finish it but it was delicious beginning to end) I sat a four person table all by myself, they were very attentive but not when I wanted them to be. This was the most delicious thing I’ve ever had. I also got a bottle of wine to myself which may have influenced the review; BUT still! This place was amazing! Highly recommend. If you go past 9:00pm good luck finding a table!

Our first time visiting Greece and we were super hungry. We saw this place had 8k reviews and knew we had to try. I can’t even begin to describe how phenomenally delicious and affordable the food is. Not to mention a generous portion size. Love this place and would 10000000% recommend eating here.

Safe to say that I ate here several times during my trip to Athens. The service was quick and efficient. The food was good and affordable. The gyros were tasty, the meat was well cooked and flavorful and the pita was soft and fluffy. The salad was so fresh! This would be my first stop if and when I do return to Athens!

O Thanasis is a huge multi-building restaurant located on “souvlaki row” off Monastiraki Square with a small menu of grilled meats, salads, and dips. We started with the Greek Salad, a combination of cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, red onions, and red/yellow/green bell peppers, all topped with a block of feta cheese, oregano, capers, and olive oil. The star dish, however, was the Thanasis Kebab, which were super juicy, flavorful ground meat kebabs served over slightly crispy grilled pita and topped with grilled tomatoes and marinated red onions. Though this was a touristy spot, everything we had here was flavorful, prepared quickly, and came at a good value too!

The must of the must try in Athens! It is one of those spots that are emblematic in the city. Our waiter was surprisingly very very welcoming and nice. I tried nearly every main on the menu and they were all amazing! My favorite was the kebab but all of them were delicious. You can’t be more central and it’s quite a busy area. However it’s refreshing to find such a “touristic” location having such good food and service. Will definitely return.

We found this place with a recommendation from our hotel and also we checked the information on google maps. They really have a good point, and I think they deserve that. This place is on my must go list is Athens. My recommendation is to have a pork gyros wrap. And also they have very good kebab.

great lunch! the dishes are delicious and the location of the restaurant is very pretty. i had some feta and pita bread, the green salad and the kebab plate. the meat was tender and delicious. reasonable prices, the portions were big and we payed only 23€ for two people.

The kebabs with yogurt were delicious! Chicken and pork souvlaki was good but not the best we’ve had in Athens. Prices were ok and service was quick - a little overpriced for souvlaki. Overall, a great spot to stop for a quick and relatively good meal if you’re in the mood for people-watching.

This was the first place that we visited in Athens. The service is super professional, super quick, food is very delicious, portions are huge. We recommend to take medium sweet ‘Our wine’, one bottle might not be enough 😅 We visited it before leaving Athens too. Take it slow, relax and enjoy. We arrived at the restaurant when it was almost empty, we asked to sit inside because it was very cold. They tried to convince us to sit outside and that the oven was there enough despite the extreme cold claiming that all the tables were booked in advance. We were finally put in a corner that was not inside the restaurant, and a torn nylon cover was its wall, it was very cold! The waiter was not kind and when he realized that overall we wanted to eat a few small portions he was impatient with us. We ordered a Greek salad and fried zucchini. The salad arrived in less than a minute! And that did not surprise us after we tasted ... large chunks of tomatoes and cucumbers that had no doubt been cut a few hours earlier and just looked like a squeezed rag. The fried zucchini was the complete opposite of a crispy dish. It was soaked in oil and depleted like jelly. When we went to pay the waiter asked us if we wanted to leave him a tip? Absolutely real!

The best Kebab I had while in Athens, the pita underneath are drenched in meat juices, and the yogurt and sauce are here to complete the dish. Don't be afraid of the price, this dish will fill your belly to the point you won't be needing anything else. 5/5. Outstanding.

Excellent iconic gyros/kebab restaurant in a very animated area with local music. The place is great for a quick meal, to eat in or to go. The hosts speak English, menus are English, so it’s easy to order and get around. We went for a chicken souvlaki, tomato salad and beer. Prices are wow, especially for take away (kebab wrap 3€!). This place is usually quite busy, but for good reason. Service is quick and professional and the food is really good. The pita with gyro seems to be an off menu item (not listed on the menu), but they definitely have it. It’s definitely a good choice if you’re in the area and hungry.

Perfect place for a casual dining or takeaway quick bite! If you are not that keen to have Souvlaki, their wrap is really a good deal €2,9 (kebab cannot be replaced with Souvlaki) If order plates - All grills are very juicy - there’s one plate with Joghurt is really tasty!

Hands down the best kebab and souvlaki we’ve had in Athens. The service was quick, helpful and warm. The location was also perfect, right in the center of all of the action near the acropolis. I would highly recommend checking this place out when in Athens.

Large establishment with plenty of seating that manages to stay full pretty much all the time … tells you that this is a popular spot. We specifically sought this place out in our itinerary and it did not disappoint! We had their two most popular choices and both were excellent. The meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful, and all the non-meat elements supplemented the dishes wonderfully as well. It’s fast food, sure, but fast food cooked extremely well. Service was prompt and personable despite the lunchtime crowds that had gathered when we got there.

We got the food very quickly! Although it looks like a spot mostly for tourists (and if you’re reading the review than probably you are), it’s a nice place to get lunch. The prices seem fare. The food was tasty; the wine not so much.

We are her for dinner and I see why it is the 42nd out of 150 most legendary restaurants. The service was great, the food came quickly and the servers were respectful and pleasant. We order the Greek salad which was seasoned to perfection and extremely fresh. We also ordered fries and spicy peppers for starters, I can’t stress how amazing these were as I did not need to season them. So good! For main we order the yogurt kebab, it was very filling. The flavours were what you expect from Greek cooking, salt, olive oil, and love.

The food here was sooo good that we ate here 3 nights in a row! While all the kebabs are great, the yogurt kebab was my favorite and we had it each time! The meat is also halal so a great place for Muslims. The vibes are amazing, with lots of people, shops and other food outlets nearby. It's also very central in Athens to all the major sites including the Monastiraki market. Highly recommend, the staff will take care of you!!

O Thanasis served up some delicious food. The yogurt kebab is a MUST try. They gyros was also incredible albeit also very unique as it was super juicy instead of having that crispy too it. Also, probably the fastest I have ever got food in Greece. Both exceptional!

Chickens and Kebabs platters are Halal here according to the waiters of the restaurant. Their platters are very delicious and cheap price.

The restaurant looks like a tourist trap, but it definitely isn't. We visited it due to many positive opinions and we were not disappointed - the food is delicious, the portions are large and the service is nice. I definitely recommend it!

The restaurant is touristy, but the food is good, prices fair, lots of patio seating, and big portions. On a hot day, it’s nice to sit down at their patio and relax while you watch all the tourists walk by. The staff were also super friendly and attentive.

Best pita in Athens to be honest. Everything is also really really reasonably priced and served quickly. Would definitely recommend!

O Thanasis was recommended to me by a friend who is from Athens. great recommendation for a first time visitor. there are better places out in some alleyways in Athens, but for tourists, it is an easy walk, always an open table (looks to have a million tables! lol). the food was good, not the best i had in Greece, once i ventured out of t Monistiraki area. want something fast and good? try O Thanasis. also, staff is super friendly (but Greeks in general, are very friendly people). Servings are HUGE!

I was in Athens for two days and I heard about this place down the street, so I went to check it out. I had the O Thanasis kebabs. Those kebabs were fire. I think they were lamb or mix of beef and lamb. Juicy and tender meat over pita with added onion and tomato. Their Greek salad was on point too. My gf had a classic pork gyro, she said it was decent but a bit on the dry side, maybe extra tzatziki was all that was needed. But I’m giving this spot 5 stars because it’s a kebab place. Quick service, long tradition, great location in the heart of the city. You can’t go wrong with this place!

Great place to visit, located in a crowded street in the city the busiest, but still worth a visit. The food was perfect well done kebabs were juicy and served directly hot. Everything was perfect and the atmosphere is amazing in the street nearly all day busy.

We highly recommend this restaurant. Every item we ordered were deliciously prepared - Kebobs, moussaka, Greek salad, French fries and tzatziki. All staff were very nice and efficient. We also ordered a bottle of Greek wine which they recommended to pair with our meal. Very reasonably priced menus as well. Thank you for an amazingly authentic Greek cuisine experience!

An excellent restaurant for any recommendation. The staff is friendly, and the selection of traditional Greek food (meat) is top with very reasonable prices. Very good local wine. After the meal, we were treated to a free dessert. Live music during dinner.

10/10 food and service. This place had air conditioning inside which was an incredibly nice experience! Cannot change the meat in the wrap but other than that we were pleased with service. Definitely cheaper and just as delicious places to eat but would reccomend here!

I loved this spot!! We came here for lunch and can’t wait to go back. The food was awesome, not too pricey, the service was ok, lots of seating and I can’t wait to go back. Heading back into Athens tomorrow and planning on going there for lunch. I highly recommend this spot
