This definitely gives the best view for Athens, the sunset and the Acropolis. The walk is also not that steep, you can be up there in 15-20 minutes conveniently. Just check out the pictures, marvellous 😊

This was right behind our hotel and it is a great walking spot...so many things to see and views are stunning. Go to the loo before you set off as there are no working loos on either side 😉 And yes, that is snow you can see...heaviest snow they'd had on seven years on the week we were there! 😂

This is a great place to walk when you need some fresh air and exercise. It's also a great place to snap some good photos of the city, and most importantly, the Acropolis. Also, keep an eye out for local wildlife. The turtles are especially fun to find if you're walking with your kids.

Climb up to get a great view of entire Athens. This hill is the highest of all 3 hills surrounding Acropoli. The trek is easy. On the way you can see the prison of socrates. The view from top is great.

This is a really great spot tucked away beyond the obvious tourist attractions and revered sites. This was an incredibly pleasant experience and site and filled with awe inspiring views of the Acropolis and Mars Hill, which dreamily feel just a mere breath away. This is a great spot for pictures and the walking paths are relatively easy-ish. The views are altogether staggering as is most of the enveloping vicinity. Great place and known also as ‘The Hill Of The Muses”.

Amazing walk not so far away from the Acropolis. The park is really nice, and it was not so crowded with people. I also chose to do a less know walking routes through park and was amazed how many turtles roam the park. It's a really gorgeous mediterranean park with beautiful views on Athens, and I will definitely have to return here to enjoy nature in the heart of the city.

A great place to get the view of Athens from different angles (you can see Acropolis, the sea and Lycabettus hill from there), in some places you will find no people and can enjoy the beauty of the city in complete quietness. Some of the stairs can be slippery so I would avoid coming here in the rainy weather.

Really nice place to get a comprehensive view of the city. Feels like an adventure in of itself and you get to see most of the city from this viewpoint, the whole place combines the idea of an archeological site and a walk through the park. Free access, nice views and you have descriptions of different elements. Definitely a nice place to get a view of the acropolis and for the sunset. At night it felt really safe as you could see people walking their dogs in the park or young people chatting.

A picturesque and moderately challenging climb (depending how hot it is outside) with many sights, beautiful foliage, and stone pathway. There are plenty of historic sights as you climb, such as Socrates' Prison and Philopappos monument. At the top, the view is spectacular from all 360 angles. Just below the monument is a large seating area to take a small break. While it is absolutely breathtaking at sunset, be sure to give yourself time to get back down as there is little lighting and many uneven stones.

Nice afternoon walk (with many places to sit and have a break if you need). The perfect place to sit and watch the sunset with a beautiful view of the sea, city and acropolis.

If you visit Athens, I recommend the hiking course here. From here, you can see all the Athens and also Parthenon overall views. Not too many people, and you can still see many of historical moments! Definitely want to go there again. One of the 'unforgettable' place.

Brilliant place to visit and get great view of the Parthenon and the Acropolis. No entry charges as it's a free park. Best time to go is sunset. You can even get a small picnic while enjoying the views. Can get a little busy, but you can always find a nice spot.

If you suffer from FEAR OF HEIGHTS, VERTIGO, then from here, you can get the best 360-degree view of the city without fear. The whole hill is a great place to admire the views and to walk in nature. The climb is moderate. There are wide, well maintained paths as well as dirt trails. It is peaceful and tranquil all around. Lots of locals.

A must visit spot for those who enjoy sunsets and absolutely stunning views all around from snow capped mountains to the Saronic Gulf and everything in between. Easy stroll from the busy parts of central Athens, but do bring water and a snack because you’ll want to stay for a while. There are multiple elevations and view points at the top, and it’s recommended visitors check out each spot to appreciate the different perspectives. From the top, trails head down in all directions, an opportunity to see something new on the way back down.

Loved the stroll up this easy to access hill. Sometimes you can smell the surrounding pine trees and it's so nice. The views are excellent, you can see pretty much all of Athens and of course the star of the show: the Acropolis.

The hike up to the hill and the view from the top summed up to these 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit. Don't miss the view point behind the monument. It's totally worth the climb up this hill.

If possible, you need to go there and enjoy the amazing view to Akropolis, Parthenon and the City of Athens. To watch the sundown from here is an awesome experience as well. But take care of slippery ground.

I can't believe I hadn't visited this area of Athens earlier. Gorgeous views, ancient ruins and nature at a stone's throw from the very centre of Athens and yet far from the crowds. It's a grove, not a forest, so don't expect much shade. Ideal for easy walks or just to chill (Don't you dare litter such a place!)

Visited several times, on a clear day, the sunset is a must see. It's a similar height to the Acropolis, and you can see the whole of Athens all around you. It's super peaceful and usually not too busy.

Not so tall hill but really worth the walk up. From here you can see really good 360° views of Athens including the Acropolis, the city, sea and surrounding mountains. Amazing sunset views here too! See attached pictures.

Absolutely incredibly point of view for the acropolis. Super light hike (walk) to get to the main points and it's a very interesting place. There are turtles in the hill by the way. Found that to be very interesting. Come here for sunset as the sun light shines directly on the temple and its more beautiful.

Check this out whenever you’re in Athens. The stairs make the hill hill is easy to climb. They’re well maintained and not steep making it easy to use. Also, there are stone benches along the way to the submit where the monument is. The benches provide some respite along the climb.

Probably the best place to go for an incredible view of 360° of all of Athens, including Acropolis.. the walk is easy and the view breathtaking.. and no line no waiting nor entrance fee. All gratis ! Anywhere else there was hours of waiting in crowds of people place is private. It’s amazing and definitely worth the little hike ..

Not may tourists there. If you plan to get there, study the way carefully because there are not many signs up there and no Internet connection. Anyway, the way is not too complicated. Finally you will get spectacular view of the whole acropolis! Worth the climbing! Actually, the one before called pnyx is also good point to take photos.

Great view from philipapops monument both towards the acropolis and on the other side towards the seafront of Athens. Great sunset spot (for seaview). Came to watch fireworks from here for new year's. The park was well lit and very easily hikable in the dark. The entrance is the north east connecting with the walk ways from the acropolis. We did not find any other entrancez open despite the Google map walking directions.

Great place to have view on the Acropolis hill. Especially in the evening once Acropolis is illuminated. That's hilly garden/park well lighted in the evening. There are avaliable points with drinkable water. Wonderfull place to have a walk with spectacular views.

The best view on Acropolis in my opinion. Also an incredible view on Athens. Also the walk to the top and around the park is a quite nice experience itself.

  • 5/5 alessandro m. 3 years ago on Google
The hill is located nearby the Acropolis and it definitely deserves to be visited as well. On the top of it you'll find a monument, but the most beautiful thing is the view of the Acropolis that you'll be able to enjoy in several points while climbing up the hill, and of course from the top of it. Moreover, at the very bottom, turning left after few meters you'll find what is believed to be the old prison of Socrates. Strongly recommended.

One of Athens' gems. Can't afford to go to the Acropolis and still want fantastic views and cute scenery? Filopappou hill is your place. The only thing to be careful of is that there is no light sources during the night so you better bring a flashlight or your phone.

  • 5/5 Norbert B. 4 years ago on Google
If you want to find and look at a nice view of Athens you need to reach this place. You can take good photos here. And there is also a good view on Acropolis. I was at this place in the afternoon. So maybe it is much better to be here at night/ in the evening. But you should be ready for walking up to the hill:) it is not so easy as it seems to be

A good place to watch a sunset. I somehow thought that I would have been able to see a sunset with the acropolis, but realised that they are in the opposite directions. Beware of pickpockets and robberies. Warned by a cab driver that the place could be dangerous.

A must in our visit to Athens. Its a nice walk outside of the busy city and has one of the best sunsets. With the perfect light and point of view for the Akropolis.

  • 4/5 Marcin G. 4 years ago on Google
Great viewpoint. The Acropolis and the whole of Athens are perfectly visible. You can take amazing photos. You have to climb a bit to the top, but it's definitely worth it. I recommend it especially in the evening when the Acropolis is backlit - it leaves indelible memories for a lifetime. In the evening I advise you to take a flashlight or at least have it on your phone - a lot of the approach to the top is not illuminated.

If you fancy a walk around Athens, don't forget to visit the Filopappou hill - during the day at least. A wonderful view of Athens awaits with the extra bonus of a unique view of the Acropolis and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus!

  • 5/5 Mariya P. 3 years ago on Google
My all time favorite place to see Acropolis hill and city panorama. Filopappou hill seems to be underrated, as it’s hard to imagine that on top of what it seems to be “just a park” next to the Acropolis hill you can have stunning view of the city. The path upward is not most obvious (also, more comfortable shoes are recommended), but if you just keep going up, following one of the multiple pathways, eventually you will arrive at Filopappou hill top and monument. Wander around a bit, there are a few nice places to admire Parthenon. I like that most of the times it is quite empty. Which is surprising, given that just below is the area buzzing with tourists.

  • 4/5 Dani W. 3 years ago on Google
It's a nice walk up the hill to the Filopappou monument with great views. If you want to see the other archaeological sites scattered around the hill, it's a bit confusing, because it's a maze of small paths. But it's worth a visit and a good option to get away from the crowds.

  • 5/5 Alistair M. 3 years ago on Google
Great views of the Acropolis and the city spread out all around. Didn't explore much else about the hill as we were on a mission to get there for the sunset. Climb up and down would be reasonably hard going for those who are more unsteady on their feet but there are a few ways of getting up and others may be better than the way we went! The actual Roman monument at the top doesn't get much of a look-in compared to the views but is impressive in its own right, unless, like so many of us, you become blasé about ancient monuments - there are just so many in amazing Athens!

  • 5/5 Wik L. 3 years ago on Google

The best place to see all of Athens. Its a bit of a climb, with many steps, but if your fit will be an easy walk. Nice way to start the day really. In winter when I went it was cool in the mor ing air then you get views of all of athens. A must do! Be carful though! There are clif edges on some paths and also when you get to the top, so keep a stead footing at the top and dont run, as you might miss where the clif ends. This is esspecially notice if you have kids. Not good for those with small kids or babies.

When in a city I love to get up high so here is a free opportunity. Great views of the Parthenon & indeed most of the rest of the city of Athens from up here!

Nice walking trails. Pretty clean. Fabulous views. Could've used some more directional markers, but I'm not good with directions anyway so I won't judge it for that lol

Also known as the Hill of the Muses it can be a bit of a trek for some but not too exerting and well worth it with fabulous views of the Acropolis and beyond. We walked up quite early one Sunday morning with hardly a soul about it was breathtaking

Great little hike! Do bring water with you cuz it’s out in the open! It is nice and pretty easy to walk around there. A lot shorter than I thought. The view is gorgeous from the top. You can see 360 of Athens!

When visiting Acropolis, be sure to visit the near-by Filopappou hill. Breathtaking view of the city, with its 4,5 million population. No entrance fee. Ascend to the top through the pine forest roughly 15 minutes.

AMAZING VIEWS!!!!!! If you’re in the area it’s a must see. It does require uphill walking but it’s manageable. Surrounding flora is lots of pines and dirt, arid landscape. People walk their dogs here and jog as well. The monument is interesting but the view from the top is the ultimate payoff. Skip the monument if you’re short on time, you’re not missing a critical piece of history.

Amazing, incredible!!! Unbelievably beautiful. The existence of the Roman empire ruins brings a lot of history. The place requires your vaccination certificate. Not suitable for persons with walking difficulty. Coble stones and marble steps could be slippery.

Quiet, green place in the middle of Athens. Accessible park with gorgeous views and nature around. Visited in winter sunny day, there was not so many people, great for peace and taking pictures without someone in.

I discovered this place by accident while walking past the Acropolis one evening. I noticed people veering off onto paths leading up the hill. There are signposts indicating sights like the Prison of Socrates and Philopappos Monument so it is difficult to get lost but most people go to sit and watch the sunset over the Acropolis to the north and the Mediterranean to the south. Just head for the highest point and soak up the views. It's an easy walk but sturdy shoes recommended.

This is the best park and hill in Athens. There are others and they have their advantage, but this one is the best and it keeps getting better because of renovation. I suspect at some point it may require entrance fee, but for now it's free and it's the best place to rest after visiting the Acropolis. There are benches, shade, historical sites, a view towards the city and Acropolis, public restrooms etc.

You can overlook the hillside of the Acropolis, and it takes about half an hour to get to the top of the mountain. Each height has a variety of scenery. We went up the hill from the back, but the only drawback was that there were no water selling places and toilets.

  • 5/5 Palak R. 1 year ago on Google
This and the other hills in the vicinity are not something shared as the top things to do in Athens, but I would highly recommend visiting it. You get a 360 view of the whole Athens, wonderful sunset, beautiful view and the walking trail is enjoyable. Best part, all of this with no entry cost!

Philopappos Hill is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Athens. As an avid traveler, I am always on the lookout for unique and picturesque destinations, and Philopappos Hill exceeded all my expectations. This magnificent hill offers an unparalleled combination of natural beauty, historical significance, and stunning panoramic views. The ascent to the top of Philopappos Hill was an adventure in itself. The winding paths, lined with lush greenery and blooming flowers, created a serene atmosphere that immediately transported me away from the bustling city below. Along the way, I encountered several ancient ruins and monuments, adding a touch of antiquity to the entire experience. Once I reached the summit, I was rewarded with a breathtaking panorama of Athens. The Acropolis, with its iconic Parthenon, stood majestically in the distance, while the sprawling cityscape unfolded beneath me. The sight was nothing short of awe-inspiring, especially during sunset when the sky painted vibrant hues of orange and pink. What impressed me the most about Philopappos Hill was its perfect blend of history and nature. The monument dedicated to Gaius Julius Antiochus Philopappos, a prince from the Roman era, stands proudly atop the hill. It serves as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of Athens and adds an air of mystique to the surroundings. I highly recommend exploring the various walking trails that crisscross the hill. Each path unveils new surprises, such as hidden caves and vantage points offering different perspectives of the city. It's an ideal place for a leisurely stroll, a picnic, or even a romantic rendezvous. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply seeking tranquility amidst urban chaos, Philopappos Hill is an absolute must-visit. The captivating blend of ancient ruins, lush greenery, and panoramic views make it an unforgettable destination. I can't wait to return to this serene sanctuary and create more lasting memories.

You get great views from here. It's not hard to get there either, you can go for a hike. You can go from The main road, it's around 15 min walk up the hill but it's worth it.

Such a beautiful place to hike to in Athens. Another high point of view of the city of Athens, as well as another view of the Acropolis. There are many routes to get here, but u recommend starting from the observatory and making your way up the hill. You don't have to see everything and Google Maps is your friend, as it will guide and direct you to the points of interests you can visit on the hill. Another surreal historic site in Athens, view beautiful scenic views of the city to be found on the hill!

I would highly recommend taking a walk here at night! Beautiful view of the city and lovely nature. Truly the perfect place to relax and wind down after a long and tiring day in the city! The views are breathtaking and the lighting on the Acropolis really adds to the atmosphere.

Loved this park, it's huge but told the great sort of Athens and the surrounding area. If you love walking and going off piste, this is the place for you. The views are great. If you want to visit the observatory check the opening times as it's only open a few days a week at wired time.

Philopappos Hill is an absolute treasure in Athens, offering a remarkable blend of history, nature, and breathtaking views. This serene oasis is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Greece and a must-visit for anyone exploring the city. The ascent to the hill is an enjoyable hike, with well-maintained paths that wind through lush greenery. As you make your way to the top, you'll encounter various ancient ruins and historical sites, including the Philopappos Monument itself, which stands as a majestic sentinel overlooking Athens. The panoramic views from the summit are simply awe-inspiring. You'll be treated to a bird's-eye perspective of Athens, with iconic landmarks like the Acropolis and the Parthenon dominating the skyline. It's a photographer's dream come true, especially during sunset when the warm hues bathe the city in a magical light. Beyond its natural and historical significance, Philopappos Hill offers a sense of tranquility that's a stark contrast to the bustling city below. Whether you're seeking a peaceful retreat, a place for a leisurely picnic, or simply a spot to take in the beauty of Athens, this hill delivers on all fronts. I highly recommend taking the time to explore Philopappos Hill during your visit to Athens. It's a place where the past meets the present, and where the city's vibrant energy harmonizes with its ancient heritage. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a nature lover, or someone in search of breathtaking vistas, Philopappos Hill has something to offer for everyone. Don't miss out on this remarkable gem in the heart of Athens.

Not the most difficult mountain to climb in the Athens. Totally worth it to see the sunset from this hill. You can see all of the city and the sea from up here.

  • 5/5 Fabrizio O. 4 months ago on Google
Unrivalled views, nearly flat path that takes max 10 minutes' walk from the park (signage is hidden, stairs are a few meters ahead of the arrow for Socrates's prisons). No artificial lights and flat stones, so it may not be safe to go on a dark wet night (although I didn't try).
