It was a really great time at Safestay Athens. The location is great with an amazing view of acropolis from the rooftop bar and not to forget the beautiful cat on the ground floor 😀😍. Supermarket, metro, and all other things are at just walking distance from the hostel. They offer rooms at affordable rates. The only problem for me was the cold water in the morning, especially for two days. However, the problem was resolved on the third day after complaining about it. I would definitely recommend them for all in one pack kind of stay when you are in Athens, when you are solo traveling. 😀

I had a private room with balcony. Perfect location, nice rooftop terrace, clean. Lockers aren't free but convenient and safe.

The positive: - location, room looked like photos, lockers to hold luggage The negative: - the internet barely worked. It was down our first day, and became usable only in the lobby vs our room for the rest of the trip. - On our last day, the water stopped working? After 12+ hours it turned back on, but was brown :( very nasty. We resorted to using bottled water to brush our teeth and hands. We were disappointed that basic amenities like running water and internet were lacking during our stay (10/29 weekend).

3 years ago it was called athens style hostel and I was harassed by a man in the rooftop bar who was rejected by another woman then he focused on me and police was informed because he was violent. The personal at the time, even was busy and did not observe him attacking me. I hope it's a safer place now back then it was not at least not for solo women.

Some tables have a view on the Acropolis, which is nice also on the evening when the lights turn on. Tables with good views also with loud music. As for the food, a huge disappointment. The "Mèze" plate contained about the same stuff I can buy at Lidl at home, cheap (instead of sheep) slices of cheese, canned olives, etc. Is that necessary?

Not the best hostel I've stayed in. They do have a fantastic service, though: daily covid testing for traveling! You come at 11am & get your results by email in the afternoon /evening of the same day. Very convenient. There also a reasonably priced large locker storage space .

This is probably one of the best and cleanest hostels I’ve ever stayed in. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing. The rooftop bar views are incredible. The staff, Nick, Tony, Phoebe and everyone who’s name I didn’t get are all fantastic people who really do well at their jobs and make you feel comfortable as possible. I would only stay here if I was in Athens. I stayed 2 weeks, and then came back a week and stayed. Thank you for the most wonderful stay and the comforting atmosphere! Cheers! 😊

Excellent hostel in the middle of the Psirri neighborhood, with heaps are bars/restos/clubs within 100m, a good common area for working/chilling, a rooftop bar with amazing views. a kitchen, a lift and 200m from a metro station. Plus, they play the best music all day. TIP: The kitchen lacks equipment (utensils, non-stick pans, etc.), so keep it simple if you self-cater.

Super bad ventilation in the 6 bed female dorm, the AC can’t do much, so much so that I couldn’t breathe properly through the night. If you open the window to get some air, it’s very noisy from the street. Pictures on the internet are not from the female dorm. Mine was a non refundable booking for 3 days, I had to leave after day 1 as I couldn’t sleep through the night. Requested the staff for a refund, but they couldn’t help much either in this case. Location is good. Bedsheets were clean. Good view from the rooftop bar. Poor vibes in the hostel. You get what you pay for in Europe

Our stay at Safestay was amazing! A clean, private room overlooking the street, combined with a very welcoming and a cozy lounge on the ground floor. I stayed here on the 8th of February. I had accidentally booked a room for the 8th of March instead!! But when I arrived and realized my mistake, Nur, the receptionist, was happy to change the dates at no extra charge - a great relief and a very understanding gesture. I would recommend Safestay to others who visit Athens, and will definitely be coming here again!

Really cool hotel for everyone who needs yust a room to sleep. Rooms are really essential and clean as well as bathroom. They aren't so beautiful but I don't even care. They have some common areas to surf net or smart work. They also have a stunning view to the acropolis and agora at the roof top where you can go to take a coffee/drink. The staff are really helpful to get info, they can also call a taxi for you at the hotel if you ask one hour before you need it.

This hostel really could have gotten 5 stars but there are some fundamental problems. So let's start with the good things. Firstly, the rooftop bar has some of the best views of the city and is the perfect place to make new friends (Made many), the staff running the bar (Eman & Philip) were lovely hosts and always nice to chat to. The location was also perfect as it was right within the city center and 1 minute walk from the airport Metroline. Rooftop bar is open to the public, so you don't need to stay at the hostel to use it! One really bad thing was their lack of key cards, as on my last night there (had a single night on my way back home) they ran out and someone from the lobby had to come up and open the door for me and many guests, its not difficult to have enough key cards, especially since it's low season so the hostel is half empty. Now the rooms, although the beds were fine, on my last night they forgot to put a pillow on my bed, so that was a hassle, especially because of the key card situation. Towels/locks are understandably not included but the worst part were the bathrooms. If they would hang up a simple shower curtain this would be no issue but basically every single bathroom (room doesn't matter, stayed in 3 different ones) was flooded with water from the shower. This made it absolutely disgusting to do anything in them, as the water was mixed with hairs and such. 100% the worst hostel bathroom I have ever used. Now I have one more negative thing to say about this hostel, 1 staff member. The old guy doing part of the night shifts, clearly doesnt like his job and probably shouldn't work there. When on the first night I Mentioned that I had a broken locker, he told me that was my problem and not the hostels and that he couldn't fix anything. When I mentioned this again the next morning, the kind lady immediately took her toolbox to go and look at it, clearly showing the guy was just lazy. Then on the last night when I tried to get in but had to let him open the door as I had no key card, he thought I wasn't a guest and wouldn't let me in at first. Really just awful customer service. Overall I still really enjoyed my time here because the social life was great, the rooftop bar was out of this world and most of the staff was amazing, it's important to note that one of the staff members helped me when I got pickpocketed and lost my wallet. So will I stay here again? I do think so, But I really hope they fix the Bathrooms/key cards and the night staff situation

Amazing hostel with a great terrace where you can see the Acropolis :) Affordable and comfortable. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. Great value for money!

Excellent location. Stuff to see and do available in every direction. Friendly staff, who offered a warm welcome and helped with any questions we had. Happy to accommodate a vegan breakfast request. The view from the rooftop bar is amazing, they offer breakfast up there at the weekends, for some reason do it in a rather depressing front room during the week. Rooms are satisfactory. The beds are okay and the hot showers were good.

Very good experience. BUT The kitchen is VERY SMALL for a place that big. Having it the size it is right now, won't force travellers to buy food from you guys. Lol. If the kitchen was bigger, WOW, the place would be the best of the best, considering the rates.

A comfortable stay in a super central location. Staff are really friendly and helpful and the view from the rooftop bar is beautiful. Whole place has a really nice feel. Ensuites in dorms are pretty small, and it's a bit annoying that they don't shower curtains as the water gets on the floor, and the kitchen is small enough that it can be hard to cook in. But I'd recommend it anyway, the location is so central with cheap food not even 5 minutes away

The bartenders think it’s normal to sit outside or downstairs on the phone, you have to ask them every time if they don’t mind doing their job, and it’s just as expensive as every other tourist trap. Nice rooftop, and I know the company pays the bartenders almost nothing, but the attitude of the bartenders is bad

Wanted to cancel our second night. Wasn't able to sleep due to a kitten outside window crying all night. Aditionally, the fact that the room had no soap upon arrival & internet was spotty + slow. Kitten not their fault but would expect sympathy. Got 0. not even a partial refund was offered. Instead got attitude from receptionist. Also, breakfast kitchen water tasted like bad tap water. And I'm not the spoiled type BOO

location is really good its in the center, But our room is on the 3rd floor opposite of the building so NO Elevator if you have suitcases you need to carry them to the top I THINK all the ROOM there was for couple or family room. so if you are a family and you have suitcases you need to walk to the stairs. BUT its so noisy here in our room we can hear everything like the door was open its too loud outside when someone is talking outside you can hear everything like he is in front of you. you cannot sleep its like open door all the sounds you can hear it. its impossible to sleep at night incase you are super tired haha. but the staff they are nice very helpful and friendly. And bring your own HAIR DRYER they have only ONE HAIR DRYER. so you need to wait if someone is using it.

Nice place to stay while visiting Athens on a budget with great location. Rooms/toilets were cleaned everyday and staff was nice. Only problem was that there was no lock in the bathroom. Definitely worth the price

Very nice location, nice view of the Acropolis from the rooftop, all the rest is negatif, uncomfortable mattresses, old decoration, nothing practical, staff not freindely, dead vibe in general, yhe cleansing need to be improved !

The hotel is in a good location but the rooms are in a terrible condition. A fungus on the wall, dust everywhere, the ventilation grille is dusty and the air conditioning does not work. And the worst are the bed bugs in room 303!!! we spent 20 days in this hostel and it was an unpleasant feeling, the service does nothing about the fact that bedbugs were found in the room.

It's a good hostel, especially if you're very interested in the social experience of it. This place also has a nice roof-top bar, and with a very personable bartender. (I can't remember his name, but I met him in his fourth day on the job. He's already good at it.) It lost a star on the rooms because of water closet issues. The shower design wasn't great. While the hostel had a drain in the water closer floor, much of the water didn't reach it. The result was an unfortunate pooling of water between the toilet and shower. Some ick-factor there. Otherwise, solid dormitory rooms. Travelers are given lots of opportunity to interact and forge new friendships. The staff was generally helpful. It felt very safe, too, as its name suggests.

I spent around 5 days in this hotel. It was a very good experience. The hotel offers plenty, spa, pool, gym etc. and it is a very good value for money. The location of the hotel is perfect, close to many amenities. I found the staff members to be very polite and helpful.

Thought I had booked a free cancellation / flexible room but then one of our flights got cancelled and I emailed to try and change the dates we are staying and they refused. They then quoted me double the price for a bed for the new dates and then I checked their website and it's cheaper online than their quoted price. Really disappointed that they aren't slightly willing to help out.

My first ever experience of racism maybe. Was not expecting this from a backpacker hostel. Took all my information through online checkin but apparently cancelled(without any reason) my booking because of my country of origin. No refund obviously. Piece of advice, you guys are in the wrong business.

While I didn’t stay here, I did use it as a bag store on my last day and had breakfast. The rooftop terrace is a hidden gem and the breakfast is great value for €5 - coffee/tea, juice, yogurt and honey, peaches and other fruit, cake, toast, eggs, ham and cheese. The staff were so lovely and friendly too.

Rooftop bar really does have great views. At checkin, they give you a voucher for a shot of mastic, liquor made from tree sap. Friendly bartender.

Super social hostels with a great atmosphere. The rooftop bar makes meeting people super easy. I wish the breakfast had a vegan option though :( plant milk, vegan yoghurt and margarine would all be super easy to add to the breakfast.

It was pretty good. Staff was good but the hostel was not the most social environment and did not have the friendliest vibe in my opinion. It was clean and felt safe otherwise.

The neighborhood doesn't look so good because it's really in the center of the city. In the other hand, I only had to take subway to go to the beach, you can walk everywhere else from the hostel. All the staff was really helpful with the hostel itself and giving tips about Athens. My room had a balcony with a nice view to the Acropolis. You need to use your room card to turn on the energy in the room. It might save some energy, but it also means that if you put your card at night and leave before your roommates wake, the AC will turn off. The shower could have a curtain, because it's impossible to not wet the bathroom and not everyone has the decency to dry it before others use it. Everything else was perfect, it's clean, organized, safe, well located.

The hostel is very nice, the kitchen is surprisingly clean, the only downside is the noise from the street inside the rooms (especially when the pub crawl comes by). The facilities are great, but what really makes the place worth it are the rooftop and the amazing staff! Big thank you to you all for making my two months here really enjoyable :)

  • 5/5 Kris B. 1 year ago on Google
My favourite Hostel of all time! Clean, Airco in everywhere, nice reception and lobby area, kitchen, laundry, big lockers( 2 EU for 24h), a bar on the rooftop with a beautiful view over the city with premium location. Only showers were too small or without a curtain so the water would end up on the floor outside the shower cabin. It is not exactly the cheapest hostel but generally, you get what you are paying for. Definitely worth it!!

Safestay Athens have my warmest recommendations. Great location, rooftop bar and view’s of Athens aside, the staff made my time at this place an absolute joy. In particular, Phoebe and Panos deserves mention. Two awesome locals who know Athens inside out and who went out of their way to give me recommendations with regards to my stay in Greece (bonus; they’ll serve you a well made drink as well). 5/5 💫

Bad beds. Bad mattress; soft ones (cheapest). No curtains; no privacy. They charge for everything. Towels, lockers, breakfast. And expensive. Some blocks away you have hawks hostel, way better.

We did not stay here, just visited the rooftop patio. They had the best Greek salad and moussaka we had in Greece. The view is also great. A hidden gem.

GREAT rooftop open until 1am. Incredible view. Service at front desk was wonderful and helpful. Especially the lady who was very compassionate with my situation (stranded in Athens due to delays and cancelled flights). I booked last minute so missed out on a private room. Only availability was mixed dorm rooms, and personally, I hate these in general, hence the 3 stars for the rooms.

  • 2/5 Selini B. 1 year ago on Google
First off, location and rooftop of this place are incredible. To the point I’m gutted to leave a not so great review, but honestly it should be illegal to have those rooms so hot. The AC in our private twin room was dreadful. Also the beds are way too uncomfortable. Every time I took a breath the frame would creak. I slept on the tile floor one night (which was also the only way for my body to get a slight chance at cooling down!) Shame really as this has the potential to be something really great but truth is it was the worst hostel I’ve stayed in personally :( hope the hotel sorts it’s AC out or at least let’s you open the windows/doors whilst having it on so the circulation is better

We were pleasantly surprised with a fantastic view of the acropolis from our balcony. Only downside, the walls are paper thin so we could hear word from word our neighbors phone call and the roof bar was above us so we heard a lot of chairs scrapping etc. But the location is fantastic, less than 1 minute walk from Monisteraki Square.

  • 4/5 Karen 1 year ago on Google
The rooftop bar is really cool! The location was good too. There was one nice guy who gave me great tips on where to go for food when I asked him :) But I arrived before check in time so I came back at 15:00, but my room was still not ready. When I finally could check in the room had clearly not been cleaned, the sheets were dirty and bathroom was a mess. Reception told me to get housekeeping myself and show them what was wrong. It was after 17:00 until the room was finally cleaned and we could properly check in.

Cheers! 😊

Great hostel with amazing rooftop views that can see the Parthenon. Friendly staff and special shout out to Panayotis for a great specialty mixed drink from the bar. I stayed in the all girls four bed door and didn’t have much of a problem with street noise (however I do usually wear earplugs just in case). They do host the drunk tour so you can hear those guests as they come and leave the hostel (or join in yourself) but this noise only lasts a few minutes as they come in a group. Definitely would stay again. Thank you 😄

Not a good experience just because of the other people in our dorm room being 40+ and no bathroom door locks. I went to reception to tell them the lock was broken because it clearly was, and she told me none of the bathroom doors had locks for safety reasons. My friends were staying in another dorm of the same style the same weekend and had a lock on their bathroom door, so it was just a little weird to me that she said none of them had locks. One of the older men in my dorm tried to come in while I was showering after watching me enter the bathroom and my friend had to stop him.
