What a cute little gem in Athens! This hostel is simple, VERY CLEAN and NICE. It has a great social area for meeting other travellers, enough washrooms and showers - all for an excellent price. The owner is pleasant, and he will remember your name, and will genuinely ask you how your day was when you're back at night! It's not at the heart of all attractions, but you can buy a transit pass ( metro, bus and tram) and get around very easily. There are lots of little shops around the hostels, including a small grocery store and delicious bakeries, so you start the day well. My boyfriend and I loved our stay here!

Service was awesome. They were all very kind. Rooms have fans, so it gets not too hot. If you want to lock your worthy stuff, you can use a locker in your room. Very pleasant atmosphere. Hostel has good location, because many bus stations are in walking distance. Price 100/10!

Great little hostel. Loved the staff they were super helpful and involved in helping you get the most out of ur stay. Hostel italic is a bit away from the cbd but there’s so many buses and we got to explore a different area. Clean amenities and common areas :) beds don’t have curtains though but I just hung a sheet from the above bunk. Super safe also in my experience!

A very unique place. Staff was super friendly, welcoming and warm. Facilities were very clean and well kept. Great hostel for „off-season backpacking“ because it wasn’t crowded at all but had just the right amount of people to still have a good time. It has a cute little kitchen and you can even do your laundry. You can easily get to the center of town by bus or by walking. Price is very reasonable. 11/10 would recommend to a friend ;)

I felt safe here as a young woman travelling. The amenities are not in the best shape but the manager Terry, is fantastic!! I look for safety first before anything else.

The hosts are nice. Late checkins are allowed. The rooms are very poor quality though. I understand that they are pretty cheap but I switched to a different hostel the next day which was only $6 more expensive and at least 50 times better. Bathrooms: very small. Not a single hook to place your things. It has a common area and a small private area for bath and small private area for toilet. Only the common area has any space to keep even a bottle, forget about your towel or clothes. If you are taller than 6’3, you might hit your head. Just one bathroom on the ground floor. Not sure about the upper floor. Location: Not that great. No metro nearby. Busses don’t connect hostel with tourist places that well. Rooms: Only one charging point. It has space for 3 but if someone has a bulky charger or adapter, it will block the other holes. Also the charging points are far from the beds. The hostel and rooms in general are not very clean. If you can spend slightly more, you will get hostels with much better location and comfort. This was not for me.

What a fantastic, clean and unique hostel! My brother and I stayed here for 8 days on the trot and both George and Terry were so accommodating. They both went above and beyond for us and we would both recommend the Pagrati Youth Hostel to any solo or group travellers. There are laundry services, WIFI and a kitchen. The hygiene is absolutely immaculate. If I could give 100 stars I honestly would, by far the best hostel I've ever stayed in.

The Pagrati Youth Hostel is a very welcoming place. I met so many nice people there. Thanks George and Terry for everything! You have there the possibility to cook, meet people from all over the world, play Chess and Jenga, hear music, I heard they even have "Mamamia" on DVD - maybe next time I will watch it there. Also there is a washing machine and a dryer. The busstation is about 2 minutes away from the hostel. So best place to stay, when you are in Athens and you would like to meet people.

Giorgos is a very kind and active host, he has a lot of local insight and is very communicative and fun to be around. This is exactly the kind of hostel that fosters new friendships and sharing of cultures. If you want to meet cool people from all over the world and actually bond outside of the hostel then this is the place.

This place is very insensitive about COVID precautions. I’m going to be the maid of honour at my friends wedding in two weeks so I’ve been wearing a mask to limit my risk to the BA.5 surge. The staff member who checked me in kept encouraging me to take it off even after I explaining my reason for wearing it, which made me uncomfortable. A second staff member made a big show of putting the mask on over his eyes when he saw me wearing mine, and after I explained that it was for the wedding he still mocked my concerns. I just don’t want to miss a childhood best friend’s wedding- I’ve made no requests of these staff members, all I’m doing is wearing a mask. I wish they’d act with a little more kindness.

I strongly recommend this hostel to anyone who is looking for a hostel in Athens. We stayed only for one night, but it was so lovely. Very clean and very friendly atmosphere. It was safe, has lockers to place all out valuables. George was a really helpful host, super friendly and accomodating and had great suggestions!

You get what you pay for. Shower is way to short (but free) Beds are clean. George is great and very helpful. A bit far from the city center.

It’s a very nice hostel where you will meet nice people, George is so cool and really here for any request you may have . I will definitely come here again. For the facilities and so I have what you paid for but there is no additional fees for the shower, the locker, the wifi, or the access to the kitchen. This is definitely the nicest hostel of Athens and it’s really close to the center (15min walk).

Its a Huge experience being here. The people is amazing and super cool. They received us super late and they didn’t have a problem with us. They are so kind and they help you with everything. Of course is not a luxury, but if you wanna to ding something cheaper and good energy is a must. The good part is that you feel like home. We made the check out early and they offer us let our luggage in a place, and we go back late. super kind. We want to go back. 💛

Loved the vibes. The owners are phenomenal and everyone I met was great. I love the decorations and atmosphere. I DID almost die in the sauna that was the room because there is no AC.

Decent room with a bunch of fans in case it got too hot but the staff were a bit weird and they also make you pay a deposit for the hostel key and your locker key but then the reception is only open from about 10:30am each day so if you have to leave before then they’ll try convince you to return the key the night before, even though you might want to go out and come back later (so need the hostel key) or keep your valuables in your locker overnight. If you beg for your deposit back the night before you leave they’ll take some convincing but eventually allow it. It’s annoying that they make every guest who needs to leave before 10:30 go through this.

George was friendly and helpful. It was difficult to pay with a card. Cash required for key deposit. Had to ask for a second sheet and towel. Showers were so tiny and squished and not very clean. Got water was hard to get working normally. Toilets also very tiny and squished. Kitchen tolerable. Limited communal spaces when raining. Room was hot even with fan on. Not much space to dry clothes. Advised not ok for over 40 year olds + , and that that was clearly stated in website but cannot see it written on website.

Recommended for budget stay. Note that the display board indicating the hostel name is missing. There is small green colour gate (as of May 2023), which is a bit difficult to recognise the hostel. Staff is charmful and supporting. Value for money stay.

Everyone was super nice and the place really encourages you to go out with the others from the hostel which is great. Everything was clean and the location absolutely prime. I wished we stayed for more than 2 nights.

Perfect location, great people and fantastic price! However, sleeping was difficult with the heat since there was no aircon, even though there were two big fans..

Hostel full of international people willing to meet and move around together. Helpful and talkative owners.

There is no AC in the room so you might die in heat That’s what I felt And the internet is almost broken Sometimes you need it for emergent however u just couldn’t find it in your Internet column Pretty horrible experience and staff is a little paranoid which made me more scared Facilities are almost broken but super cheap That’s why I have one star more but it shouldn’t be that broken as you are still a “HOSTEL” !!!

A nice hostel for budget traveler, the room is clean with a balcony and lockers but the WiFi is a bit weak. When I went there in May, it was still cold and I have enough warm blankets.

Pros: - The staff are super friendly and kind and working hard to have cool atmosphere around. - The location is very central. Cons: - It's super hot without AC. If you open the window it's super loud. - They claim that 10-11pm is quiet time, but they stay loud till +2am. - The bathroom lacks shampoo/soup/tissues.

We enjoyed staying at the hostel for a week. George (the manager) was very friendly and right up on our arrival he recommended us cheap places to have good food at. The Hostel itself got cleaned every day and even at the very hot days it was cool in the common areas. We will definitely come back!

Lovely inexpensive hostel not to far from the centre. It's very easy to meet people in the common area and the host has good tips for what to do in Athens and the region

They recived us late at night with a huge smile after a troubled day... We can relax on the main room while the papers are done, nice and chilling ambient on the shared area🥰 Nice music and everything was so clean and cozy I’m in love with these place we just have been 2 days. If I come back to Athens surely I will pass away again✨ Highly recommended, thank you very much!

Really nice place! Its located in calm neighbourhood, close to the center. Hostel has cool vibes and you can meet backpackers from every corner of the world. Also George, the manager, is really helpful and fun person (but I hope next time he will be much better at chess). Can recommend!

Friendly people live there. They gave us a nice room and told us where we can eat delicious food and told what they know about the busses.

The good: Guys at the hostel are great, nice! I had a warm welcome from the staff. I had a late night check in at 1am and it wasn't a problem. The guys really are nice, very friendly. They are good at dealing with problems and creating a great social atmosphere with the situation they have! Also, the neighborhood is nice. There are supermarkets (Lidl), restaurants and cafes nearby. There was a fruit market outside on Friday morning. However, the rest of my hostel experience left a lot to be desired: There was no AC, so we used these two fans for six people to manage summer heat. My room had one charger extension cord next to one bunk bed, and all other bunks had to leave their valuables charging on the other side of the room. The bed sheets given looked dirty, and the cover itself on the bed looked dirty. I was itching at night. I could barely fit into the bathroom stalls. I couldn't manage the hot water on the shower so I had to take a cold one. The wifi would not ever work properly on the second floor. There was almost no fridge space in kitchen. The common area for socializing was a crowded hallway and kitchen; personally I never felt totally comfortable there. It was difficult to walk back and forth to the kitchen due to limited space. The walk to the center is about 20-30 minutes—so arriving late, carrying heavy bags, rain, summer heat, all can really take their toll. I had a pair of shoes and a shirt destroyed by the rain during a brutal walk. Overall: if you are not looking for much comfort, then this is a good option. I think it is okay for a day or two. It's a good price. And you might just meet some amazing people!

Didn’t stay at other places in Athens, but there’s no need. This is the best place. Amazing host, amazing people, amazing atmosphere.

You don't have to pay to shower! They changed it to no paying a while ago. Probably best value for money hostel I've ever been to. Lovely host, lovely People, lovely place 10/10

The hostel is clean and front desk is super friendly, however it was incredibly hot in the rooms and I couldn't sleep ! 😩 Also 2 people had their stinky clothes all over the room. Come on people, have some common sense and decency towards fellow travelers

An amazing place to stay especially for solo travellers. George and Terry are legends and help create an amazing atmosphere in the hostel. Best tour guides in Athens

Pagration youth hostel is too far from Monastraki. Monastraki is the place which usually pubs have been. Hostel is far away from metro. But hostel is warm and funny place. You will love its different theme.

Has the perfect "hostel" vibe. Lacks AC in the rooms, no big deal for one or two nights but might be a deal breaker for some.

  • 5/5 Sarah D. 2 years ago on Google
Great experience! George definitely has what it takes to work in hospitality. The hostel is clean and very worth it regarding the cheap prices. Located in the center, it is perfect for a trip in the Greek capital city! Do not hesitate to ask George for local tips, whether you want to eat out, or go for a drink! He knows some great places and will be more than happy to share some of his favourite places with you. Would recommend 100%

If you are looking for a place to socialize with other travelers then this may be the place for you. If you are looking for a place to relax and get a good nights sleep then you need to keep looking. I was given a key to my dorm, but I got the impression that people would have been surprised if I actually locked the door to my room. People were walking into my room and other rooms at will even while I was trying to nap or get dressed. The implied open door policy was not the reason that I ultimately left in the middle of the night, though. The rooms were so dangerously hot at night that I worried about heat stroke. My friend and I got so sick that we had to leave at 1am to find a room elsewhere. The heat was a serious issue, but the owners' reactions to our concerns were bizarre to say the least. They basically begged us to stay, and one owner even implied that we had to stay because it was late and there was nowhere for us to go. I'm unsure what their motivations were for desperately trying to convince us to stay, but it was off putting to say the least. My friend and I did end up finding another room without the help of the owners. The owners only refunded our deposit. Without investing in window units, the dorm rooms just aren't safe in the summer. There is no fresh airflow even with upwards of five fans going in one room, and with five people to a room it is impossible to cool down. The owners offered ridiculous solutions like standing in the cold shower, but none of their ideas got me any closer to getting a night of sleep which was my sole reason for being there. If you are looking for a comfortable and safe place to sleep while you stay in Athens I highly recommend staying somewhere else.
