To start with, the building is beautiful, and so is the way it is decorated. Paintings, plants, and nice lights are everywhere. Really lovely kitchen facilities and spacious rooms. The staff are very kind and there is an ethos of generosity — loose leaf tea, good coffee, big bowl of fruit, honey, and granola are all offered freely. Overall it is one of the classiest hostels I’ve seen anywhere in Europe. I got used to the dank location. I think the area may even be improving. It’s not good, but I wasn’t even close to having any actual problems. It more makes you a bit sad than puts you in any danger. It’s not a violent area, just some homeless people and night ladies, and kinda grotty. A 10-minute walk in any direction gets you away from that. And inside this hostel is totally an oasis in the midst of that. Because of the area its in you get an 11/10 hostel for a great price. The wifi registered very poorly on a speed test but I found it to be really stable. I worked from here some days.

The hostel itself is very nice - clean, spacious, good common area. BUT the location is TERRIBLE! It was literally in the slums of Athens with people doing drugs on the sidewalk. I didn’t feel safe walking even in broad daylight. Unless you have a male friend with you or group of guys, you couldn’t pay me to stay there again.

I really enjoyed staying here, such a great clean hostel. Unfortunately my stuff got stolen from under the bed locker. Someone had made our way into our room while we were out sight seeing and broke the locks to our bags and the locker. Thomas was great and helped us throughout the process of reporting the theft. Could do with better security but the hostel was amazing nonetheless, the outside/bar area was beautiful. Was a scary area to walk through but I felt safe walking with others

This hostel is lovely, Evan was so lovely! He recommended great restaurants and shared what the culture in Athens was like. And even showed us good spots to eat. The location is in the heart of Athens. It’s easy to get around, close to the metro, good food, and has lots of life 💛 it’s not dangerous, it’s a city.

Great hostel with a super nice host Thomas who is very accommodating and gave us great recommendations for restaurants. The atmosphere in the hostel is very friendly and you just feel like home and everything is very new and clean. Would definitely recommend!

Stayed here for a week, one of the best hostels I’ve been in! Only just opened, however the rooms and facilities are great. Thomas and the team are great, and everyone staying here is amazing. Definitely worth the stay :)

Baloo is the coziest hostel I've ever stayed in! As soon as you come in the gate, you notice the special atmosphere of the outdoor bar/lounge area. Inside the building, you feel like you're in a good friend's home. There's great art everywhere, all made by the owner's father or his students. The interior design is unique and beautiful. There was free coffee and several great teas! The beds are all new and nice, lots of space. The place just opened recently, but the owner Thomas is already a natural at hospitality. It's truly an oasis in Athens. Five stars is not enough for such a welcoming place full of such character and ran with so much care.

Everything was great! Perfectly located, very clean, well designed and commuting throughout the city is made very easy. We had a great stay and also Thomas the host was such a good guy!

I loved my stay here. This hostle is a great beautiful old building but renovated in a very nice way and the magnificent artwork of the owner’s father Mr. Georges Skiloyannis who is a great local artist. I really loved them from very small ones but to very large scale wall-paintings. The kitchen and sitting area is very pleasantly decorated and the woodworking is very nice and practically perfect. The staff are great and friendly. Thomas, the owner, was very welcoming and nice and Evan, Alex and Dimitra were so nice and helpful and I really enjoyed getting to know them😍 Definitely love to stay here again👍🏼

shocked i never took the time to review after staying here two nights in september 2022. first off, the space is stunning and beautifully renovated, the washrooms are clean, bright, and tastefully outfitted. the common room/kitchen is airy with comfy seating that i could have fell asleep on and equipped with everything you could need to whip up a meal. the patio has an open air bar with natural shade covering provided by a huge beautiful tree. the staff are personable and lovely, during my first night staying there i asked the young woman working the desk for an evening walk recommendation - she suggested Dionysiou Areopagitou street, which would result in me chancing upon a once in a lifetime free concert from Nomcebo Zikode, an artist i was already a fan of, at the WORLD'S EXCELLENCE GALA🌠 all in all this is a 10/10 place to stay and i can't wait to visit again. on my second visit to this fantastic dream land of a city i'll be making a beeline straight to BALOO HOSTEL🖤 ATHENS, GREECE

Lovely hostel, not the best location but very authentic/real to some of the issues that Athens have. Never found it to be dangerous. My room had an ensuite (4 bdr all females) which was nice. It was slow and I had great conversations with the people that worked there. Ethan/Evan was lovely and very helpful. There was a woman that worked most mornings/afternoons (dark hair, used to live in Crete I think, fully Greek) and she is amazing! She convinced me to stay in Athens much longer than I intended to, gave me a daily itinerary and ultimately made me love the city. I literally woke up every morning and asked her, "What should I do today?" and she always provided me with the best things to see 😅😅. Overall would recommend, it's outside of the touristy areas like Psyri but a short walk there.

Baloo was an extremely peaceful hostel within a not so peaceful area. If you're willing to walk 5-10 min, you can get into other parts of Athens easily. It's a ~20-25 min walk to some of the main tourist attractions. 10/10 would recommend Baloo!

Awesome place! Open and giving people, with good understanding of travelling reality! Free to use herbs and tee, a full basket of fruits, cotton swabs etc. Very nice building and facilities. It smells new! And you get the impression that it is still being modelled. I am pretty sure that every comment leads to an improvement! The area comes very handy, at the center of everything, but maybe solo travelling girls should avoid.

Awesome stay in Athens and at Baloo Hostel! Beautiful place : nicely decorated, brand new, clean and safe. Cherry on the sundae, Thomas, the host is very welcoming and gives a lot of local tips and secrets! Finally, coup de coeur for the interior court with a beautiful bamboo bar. I highly recommend this great place to anyone looking for a simple and chilly spot to meet new people.

Awesome hostel! Great rooms and a pleasant atmosphere. The location is a bit dodgy but I felt fine walking around. Close by to the metro station and square. The staff were friendly and helpful. Would stay here again!

The hostel itself is amazing. Clean, well designed with nice atmosphere and service. The location on the other hand is terrible, with lots of people smoking crack and injecting heroin right outside the front gate and in neighbouring streets. Although I didn’t feel unsafe, I would not recommend people to walk here alone.

Baloo hostel is home away from home! The atmosphere is relaxing and earthy. Road may seem a lil uneasy but I can honestly say I never felt uncomfortable nor unsafe. Highly recommend and it’s very central!

This might be the best hostel I’ve stayed in. Lovely and clean rooms with en-suite toilet/shower. There were separate showers and toilets if you needed. Their AC was a lifesaver in the record breaking heat we experienced as well. I’d definitely come back!

This hostel is so amazing. Everything about it was wonderful. The dorms were so nice, clean, and comfortable. The kitchen area was fully stocked and always clean with very nice appliances. The outside bar area is so cute and great for meeting others staying at the hostel. The hostel owner Thomas is such a nice guy and takes very good care of his place. If I find myself in Athens again I will 100% be staying here again.

Welcoming, spotless, comfortable, beautiful, trendy. Thomas, the owner is extremely helpful and sweet. We traveled as a family and booked all the beds in a 5-bed en-suite dorm room. Couldn’t ask for more. 🙏🏻❤️

A comfortable, clean hostel in an unassuming spot in Athens with kind service. Appreciated the quiet rooms and large lockers. Beds were fairly comfortable and they are adding curtains to them which will make it better. The area does have a couple “sketchy” spots but more unpleasant than dangerous, and they advised on what street to avoid. The metro is very convenient (5 min walk or so) and makes it easy to get to airport or Piraeus port for ferries. Wifi was generally good but could be spotty. Bathrooms, especially counter space, were limited & on the small side. Probably would be best for a few nights and not many more.

i made some great connections at this hostel -- and appreciated the personality of the space; a lot of attention was put into it's design by the owner and his family. its a small building, and all the rooms are minimal, which is something to keep in mind, but it's filled with good energy and is a calm respite from the busy city.

Probably the best hostel I have ever stayed at! Thomas is wonderful as are the whole team at Baloo. Really cannot recommend staying here enough. I met some lovely fellow travellers too - this hostel has such good vibes that it seems to attract good people.

As a resident of Athens. I know Baloo Hostel due to the special events that take place in the bar lounge there. Thomas and the team are great...! I highly recommend Baloo, whether indeed for a drink in the bar or for anyone looking for hostel accommodation.

We were one of the first guests at Baloo Hostel and we loved our stay here! The hostel is like a little oasis in the big city. The old house itself is beautiful, but it has been lovingly renovated and furnished. I particularly liked the common room with the great kitchen. You feel at home and the staff are all very welcoming

My first experience at a hostel could not have picked a better place. Super nice host and great atmosphere. There a nice kitchen available to use for cooking dinner and preparing breakfast. The mattress was quite firm, but okay for a week. There are some parts in the neighbourhood you might want to avoid, but otherwise great location with easy access to busses and a short walk to a metro hub (Omonia). Would definitely recommend!

Absolutely the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at and I have a lot of experience living in and working in hostels in Europe. The owner and staff are lovely and welcoming, the amenities are clean and modern, the building, bar, and artwork are all beautiful, and it is reasonably priced and in a great area.

Incredible place! Baloo hostel is the most beautiful hostel I’ve ever stayed at, the facilities are super modern, everything is clean and the house has a warm welcoming flair. You can tell that there is a lot of work and thought put into this gem of a hostel, for such a fair price! The staff was super nice and accommodating and the hostel bar is the perfect place to meet other travellers. If you’re planing to go to Athens, this is your place to stay!

I had a great stay here. The space itself is an inspired modern venue that infuses rich classical aesthetics with abstract cosmopolitan art. The art pieces that adorn the wall are something to behold. The hospitality and kindness of the team was notable. I will be back to Baloo, my time here was sublime.
