Best hostel I have stayed at during my 2 months of travels! The place has just been renovated so it is all brand new. The common areas and beds were pristine and very well maintained. The pod was so comfortable with a large bed, sliding door, charging ports, and storage space. The lounge spaces were gorgeous as well! The first floor women’s room was my favorite part! Beautifully decorated and featured swiveling makeup chairs! I hope the other locations open soon!

Rooms are pretty cramped with no windows. They also have DJs (extremely trash may I add) who play music throughout the night which can be heard throughout every room. I was on level 3 on the far end and could still hear it clearly. I can see from previous reviews they have “heard this feedback” however they have clearly done nothing about it and not do they really care. Would definitely not recommend if you are looking for a decent night sleep and a half acceptable room.

Absolutely gorgeous, I LOVE this hotel. Walked in and was shocked by the pretty interior design. Staff were super helpful, checked me in at midnight after a long battle with flights and airport delays. Rooms were beyond my expectations, the pods were very spacious and so cute! Shared bathrooms were clean and also aesthetically pleasing, which I couldn't complain about. They have a restaurant and bar downstairs as well as a kitchen that is open from 7am - 10pm. Cute laundry room and an outlook balcony over the city on the 2nd floor. Super close to Queen St and the city, really easy to find and can go in and out at any time easily (but make sure to keep quiet for your roommates sake!) Single and double rooms were also available and staff were super willing to shift things around for customers even late at night and early in the morning. Overall, what can I say? I'm obsessed. And I will be back.

Overall it was fine, but there was no toilet paper in our room and the lighting in the bathroom was pretty bad. I also personally find the internal rooms with no windows claustrophobic so probably won’t book one again. Nice central location and a good price

The place is nice enough and staff were helpful, but the pods are swelteringly hot with almost no ventilation. On top of this the cooling fan in my pod was absolutely caked in dust. It's a cheap place to stay, but don't expect to be comfortable while you're there.

Our room is small and has no window (something to consider) but it if perfectly functional. We have a shared bathroom which are also fairly standard. Downstairs there is a kitchen and a bar so different options for everyone. The only downside is that it does get warm in the night as there is no AC.

Lovely hostel, would highly recommend! The hostel is at a great location, and very easy to reach from the airport with a SkyDrive bus. The rooms and amenities were very clean and the pods gave a lot of privacy while also allowing you to socialize with roommates if you wish. The hostel is very social and a great place for solo travelers. It’s easy to meet new people, but also offers enough space to relax on your own.

Booked a pod for a night as too far / expensive to get back to my place later at night. Place is very clean, pods are quite big and lockers are spacious, pods can get quite warm and there is a fan to push cold air in but it's quite noisy. But for the price and location it's a good deal.

Private room (shared bathroom) was a great place to stay. Walking distance to everywhere I wanted to go. The staff were friendly and were able to help me check in and stored my backs after I checked out. Restaurant attached was a great option for a drink or meal if you didn’t want to leave the hostel. Would definitely stay here again

Stayed for 3 nights and was very impressed with everything from the helpful staff to the excellent facilities. The bar area is a nice spot to relax and has a nice vibe to it. I will definitely be recommending lylo to friends if/when they come to Auckland and would happily stay here again myself.

walking distance to most places within the city, and a great social atmosphere with attached bar and lounge areas. the pods are actually quite spacious and private, and bathrooms were fairly clean aswell. wish the private rooms included a window though.

The LyLo in Auckland is the best hostel in the world. Whether you are traveling for business or for vacation, this is an excellent choice and will be my first choice when I return to NZ. Rooms: I had the ensuite option with the shower inside. The fan works well so that if you shower, the room does not get humid at all. Each bed has a plug next to it, the lighting is good, and is kept very clean. The rooms are incredibly quiet, and quiet time is enforced after hours. 10/10. Kitchen: Three enormous industrial size fridges so that everyone can keep food and prepare their own meals. Seating can be limited, but no matter how many seats one adds, they will always be filled. I was very satisfied with the supplies that were communally available. Perfect hostel accommodations. Bar/Restaurant: on the ground floor! Very convenient. And yet, it's quiet on the floor above. Very nice to have. Laundry: 4 washers + 5 dryers, plenty of availability. Check in/out: Very easy to check in and out of this property. And staff was always available at the desk to help with any issues. Location: Within 2 miles of all of the tourist attractions. Perfect. Staff: Friendly, professional, courteous, prompt. Whether by email or in person, I appreciate their availability and helpfulness. Overall: You will not regret booking here; the cost/convenience ratio is exceptional. Among the best hostels in the world.

It was our last night in New Zealand before flying home so we decided to treat ourselves and stay a Super King En-suite when staying at Lylo. The Cons: - The only way we could check into our room earlier was to pay $15, even though we were told it was cleaned and ready. We arrived at 2pm so not even super early. Never been asked to pay a fee at any other hostel or hotel that we’ve ever stayed in. It just felt like a way for them to take money from us even though we’ve already paid for one of their most expensive rooms. - There was no shower gel in the bottle in our en-suite. Luckily we had bought our own. - Late check out is a no, even though it says it may be possible on the welcoming email, receptionist straight up said no, didn’t even ask for our room number to check. - There was no light in the en suite, so difficult to go to the bathroom in the night without waking the other person up. - One of the plug sockets was behind the pillow so could not charge anything over night on one side of the bed. - The restaurant/bar downstairs, Miss Lucy’s, was not worth it. They didn’t have what we originally wanted to order, they had ran out of burgers. We ordered something else but ended up waiting over 30 minutes for our food and to was cold. The Pros - Nice and clean, it has a very modern interior. - Room was nice and spacious and the bed was comfy. - Lots of space and work areas in the hostel. - Good location- fairly central to everything. I’m glad we were only staying here one night, the price we paid was not worth it. Maybe the dorms would have been different. This place has potential but still needs some work.

I was really surprised how great the hostel was for the price. You have all the privacy with the pod beds but with the social life a regular hostel. The bathrooms/ showers were always clean. My only issue was with the kitchen. Unfortunately it was not well equipped. Also, for the size of the hostel, there was definitely not enough seating place to eat. Same for the kitchen space to cook. But over, all I think it is the best place, price and confort wise to stay in Auckland.

I was a bit surprised to find a hostel like this in Auckland. The pod was clean and very comfy, most of the places I have been to at this hostel are relatively clean and look new. The female bathroom at level 1 can be improved a bit more with better drainage for the showers, and need more toilet paper available (it was all out at night). But apart from that, my experience there was amazing. The price is very reasonable with the quality this place offered. The staff were very helpful to me as well. I highly recommend you this hostel if you are travelling on a limited budget and need a good, safe hostel to stay.

Looks brand new. Everything is organized, tidy, and extremely clean. The kitchen is a little short on storage space, but that’s the only letdown I’ve experienced here. The pods give you a great sense of privacy, there’s also lockers in the room to put your bag, a nice restaurant/cafe/bar IN the hostel, and staff do their best to help you!! This luxury hostel feels like a hotel. definitely recommend!

Best hostel I’ve been to so far yet. Great location. Great bar in the hostel. The key card for room entry and locker entry just makes it’s so much easier. My entire suitcase and backpack fit inside the locker. The pods were awesome lots of space. I felt really safe staying here. Lovely staff and other travelers would definitely recommend.

Great place to stay over on a budget. It's well located and it's very very clean. I enjoyed the pods this hotel offers. The nicest pods I've had in a pod hotel. The bathrooms are the best I've had in hundreds of hostel stays. Really well worth it.

The room and bathroom were cream, but there was no window. There was an outside view displayed on tv with sound but kinda wired to wake up not being able to feel what it was like outside and the temperature outside. The location was great, and I have no complaints about it! Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for their customer service though. No welcome feeling or helpful vibe.

This place is amazing! were we staying in an awful backpackers over Christmas and we checked out early and this place took us in, made us feel comfortable and just went beyond. The staffing is excellent and the amenities are immaculate. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

Really disappointed in my experience. The pod was boiling hot - no air whatsoever. Stayed in many pods, they all have multiple features normally a screen, audio and air. This one had a fan that didn’t work and was covered in dust. I went down to ask for help and to see if I could move to a private room but they were booked out. The only advice I received was to try again in the morning for any availabilities. Found it strange that they weren’t able to see bookings for the foreseeable future? He was nice but didn’t have any suggestions for me or send up anyone to look at the fan or at least clean it. I went back upstairs and tried again but I couldn’t cope it was too hot. My bunk mates agreed that the pods were boiling. I then went downstairs to check out. He took the card from me and that’s it. The next day I emailed Lylo to relay my experience and to discuss refund/compensation of some kind as I was unable to stay one night of the four that I had booked. I had paid in full but standard business practice ensures if a quality standard is viewed as unacceptable and the service is not used by the payer, then a refund is appropriate. Their response was confusion: they didn’t know I had checked out and asked me to come downstairs to the lobby to discuss the issue. I explained that I had checked out the night before. I have waited four days and have received no response. I really didn’t want to leave a bad review as it’s not my style but not getting back to me has forced my hand. They were nice people but thats pretty appalling customer service and it looks like there’s a lot of internal issues with communication. So disappointed. Level 1 floor where I was staying was also completely open to the public including the bathrooms.

Nothing to say about the property, which is brand new and of course it looks good. Pods, facilities, bar and lobby, they all look nice and clean and cool. If the place doesn't get a proper maintenance it will get worse in just a couple of years. Regarding the Front Office staff, they deserve a 1/10 rate. Very lazy, they're always annoyed when you ask them something or you need help. I'm a FO Supervisor in a big 5 star hotel and make an average of 150 check ins a day, trying to give and unique and friendly experience to the customer, and here in this hostel they have automated check ins and still they look like they hate you by asking something, and they just stand and work on their laptop without looking you in the eyes when someone's talking. I really saw that most of the other customer had the same opinion about that and some of them complained really bad. On the other side, Bar staff is way friendlier and works good.

Amazing lovely clean hostel lots of bathrooms, showers etc. nice clean comfy pod bed which is very different to any other hostel I've stayed in - means you get a quiet dark place to sleep which is great. My one gripe about the pod is the lighting is very bright and quite harsh if you turn it on in the night. Big loud bar when I stayed there on a Friday night but it's easily avoided as it's a big place with plenty of seating

It's got what you need! My husband and I stayed here for one night before our flight. Staff was helpful, fun spaces to hang out or relax, and there is a bar/restaurant right there. They kept our bags in storage while we explored the next day. We would definitely return here next time we are in Auckland!

Lived in pod of 4, comes with individual lockers. Lockers are big enough to store my 28" luggage but I just don't have the strength to push it up/in (my locker is stacked over the lower bunker one's) gotta find a lock and tie it to the ladders. Toilet is clean but often without tissue paper. Shower is also clean but could have a bench or more hangers to put clothes Comes with big shared kitchen (free) and laundry (charged)

Thoughs who are looking for a reasonably cheap place (depends on how close you book), a bed to stay or to make friends, LyLo is the place. As soon as I walled in, I was incredibly surprised. The vibe and atmosphere were warm, welcoming, and full of life. Staff were great, check-in was easy, and all communal areas were clean and organized. They offer a restaurant or kitchen for your own meals. Bit of a walk to bus stops on a somewhat steep incline. Great shops around if you explore. Can get shared sleeping quarters or your own private one (more expensive)

So close to bus stop, very walkable distance to town. On-site restaurant/bar. Very clean, very quiet. Beautiful bathrooms, a great place to relax on 2nd floor. Totally recommend it

We went there 2 times. Once in double private room and the second time in a 4 pods room. Easily in the top 3 of the accommodations we had in NZ, maybe even in the first place (we sleeped in 30 different places in the country). It is a bit more expensive than other accommodations, but the extras dollars are worth it. The doubles room are huge and really silent (after they cut off the music in the corridors after 9:30pm). The pods are a great concept, but sadly the implementation has a slight issue. As you are totally insulated from the room, it gets quickly hot. You then have three choices. Either live with the heat, or turn on a little fan to bring fresh air (but it is quite loud) or you open the door of the pod (but you get light from the floor lamps, that you can't turn off). If this issue can be fixed, it will be perfect. Ther is more than enough toilets and showers. Kitchen is clean and practical. Would definitely go there again if I go back to Auckland.

Literally the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at and I’ve stayed at a lot. It’s clean, massive kitchen space, great wifi, private bed pods, clean, and the bathrooms are amazing. Highly recommend!!

It’s been a few years since I last stayed at a hostel and I can’t believe how far things have moved along. Absolutely top rate - the facilities were all excellent (fast free WiFi (works well on each floor), kitchen area, bar area (Miss Lucy’s - with events such as comedy evenings) and chill out areas). Self check-in/out was also very convenient and a real time saver. I also thought the location was great - it was very centrally located. I would absolutely stay here again.

Very nice! Staff very helpful, they let you leave your bags in the luggage room. Communal kitchen is very spacious. Bed construction could have been more solid. It would have also been great to have soap in the showers.

  • 5/5 Ramiarasoa M. 7 months ago on Google
Great location, great staffs and great rooms! you have you privacy with the slide curtain, showers and toilets are clean. Maybe the only downside is that there is very little mixing between nationalities, but it's not because of the hostel.

  • 5/5 Brady E. 7 months ago on Google
I had a great stay! I was in a 4 pod room and it was nice and private. The bathrooms are really clean and the staff is really helpful. There's also an adjoined restaurant which makes things easy! Great location too, quick walk to the shops and the downtown area.

This 72 year old backpacker loved her stay at the LyLo. Mine was a private room with the comfiest bed ever with an excellent bathroom. The shared kitchen and chill out or communal areas were buzzing with the young and active, I felt right at home!. Easy online check-in and -out, and always someone there to help with directions. Spotlessly clean, great vibe, relaxing. The pod accommodation spaces looked spacious and well set up, with excellent bathrooms. Each has a TV for streaming, watching or for a rooftop view to see how the weather is outside. Located near the Skytower, this is as central as it gets, and an easy walk to Britomart Station to catch my train. I'd happily return any time, and recommend the LyLo to the young at heart.

LyLo is a nice hostel, The Check-in was very easy and fast, The rooms, showers and toilets were clean. The Staff is very kind and helpful. There are a lot of spaces to chill out, or you can have a drink/snack at Miss Lucy's.

The hostel really exceeded my expectations. I stayed in a female 4 pod room, and despite being a shared room, it was really quiet and private. The lockers in the room which you can lock/unlock with your room card was also a plus. The bathrooms were clean and the showers were hot and strong. I only stayed overnight so didn't get to use the other shared spaces but the whole check in/check out process was quick and easy.

If you want to spend 110 for a room with concrete ceiling with pipes going through and zero windows so you feel like you’re in a prison cell.. you’ve found the right place! Left within 10 minutes of seeing the room. Incredibly claustrophobic. Worst place I have ever encountered.

  • 5/5 Jejay S. 10 months ago on Google
Good location, staff were easy to deal with, room was a bit small but very clean and well kept. I would be happy if the TV was replaced by a fridge. Apart from that great spot 10/10 will be back.

  • 4/5 Jay B. 9 months ago on Google
The bed is comfortable, the female bathroom has hair driers, hostel is overall new and very clean if you are lucky to share the bedroom with clean people - which was not my case unfortunately. The room has a good sized locker for every bed, which you use your card to lock/unlock (that’s why I don’t understand why people can still be so messy) but not Lylo’s fault. The bar attached to the hostel helps a lot with $6 drinks from 4-6pm. I would stay there again. Just No window in the bedrooms, there’s a fan which helps, because it gets quite hot. My flight to Akl got canceled twice and I lost 2 nights that I paid for the room, they were not very flexible on helping me out on that, lost money

  • 5/5 Sheree H. 9 months ago on Google
This place is really good!! I stayed in one of the rooms at sky city casino recently and this place is by far so much better and cleaner! The staff are super helpful as well. The rooms were so clean! Our shower was draining away a bit slow but they instantly offered to change our room no problem but to me it’s wasn’t worth making them clean another room when they had been so helpful and it wasn’t really that big of a deal. I definitely would highly recommend this place with out a doubt!

Super clean and zero fuss. Easy check in and out, everything you need and nothing you don’t for a short overnight stay. Feels super safe and welcoming. Appreciate late checkout too, and central location. Thank you for having me :)
