Room card no work after I finished shower and I was locked outside the room around 30min and no one answer the assistance call. Somehow there’s some mistake caused there are 5 people arranged in one room so one of the people slept on the coach. Not to mention the odd smell in the hallway

Kitchen is so badly equipped, with only a handful of bowls, cutlery, glasses and literally ZERO mugs! Reception never available (sign always up saying “back in 15” but I waited an hour and no one showed up). No safe luggage storage (just an open room). Shower room horrendously mouldy (see video). Men’s toilets smelled like fish with 1 toilet out of order leaving only 2 cubicles working. No soap for at least 3 days as well. Rooms roasting hot even when cool outside. Could be a good hostel, but little effort has gone into maintaining it.

We had booked this room for 8 people. We booked two double rooms and then a 4-person bunk room. When we arrived, they had booked us into 4 separate rooms. 2 people in one bunk room, 2 people in another and then the two double rooms. During the check in process, the lady at reception listened to a voice message on her phone and then replied to it while I was standing their mid check-in. When I questioned about the room set up, I was shut down and nothing was done to try and make any accommodations towards our group whatsoever despite the fact we had booked it months in advance for the reason of being able to all be in one room. Not to mention the bathrooms were terrible and smelt terrible, there was no toilet paper in any of the toilet stalls. When we returned later in the evening, there was toilet roll in only one of the toilets. The space was dirty, and it had mold on shower curtain. We decided to not shower there and some of our party ended up booking secondary accommodation due to the way they had set up the beds as we had two kids to try and accommodate. Overall, wouldn't recommend. Very tired, not very clean and very unhelpful staff.

Badly maintained hostel, very little work has gone into making this a functioning hostel. The kitchen is at a very bad standard of cleanliness - partly because of the kitchen itself, the appliances and not enough bowls, cultlery and cups but also because of guests leaving out dirty dishes all the time with sinks being filled with food and dishes. Dishwashing liquid is also rarely there and the fridges are all full. The bathrooms are also quite disgusting and unclean. The key cards you are given to access the room often do not work and you are unable to get in. The many times this happened to me I have to go to reception and they simply said yes we know it’s a problem and would do a quick fix but many guests had this issue and it is unacceptable that they are aware of it and do not fix it. The rooms themselves are okay, comfy beds but very very hot even on cold days. I expected better from a YHA.

The worst accommodation and management I have ever experienced. The room was unclean, smelly and noisy. One window wouldn't open, one wouldn't close and they were both riddled with mould. I was advised by email that my booking had been canceled midway through my stay and after checkout I was threatened with police action for not paying my account, even though it had been paid in full prior to my arrival. No apologies were made for either of these mess ups. Highly not recommended.

The first time we had tried to book here, they immediately cancelled our booking due to overbooking on their end. This was fine because it gave us enough time to find alternative accommodation. However, the second time we booked, we had a booking confirmation come through, money was taken out of my account and then at 5pm of the day we were due to check in, they emailed me saying that again they had overbooked and were unable to offer the room we had originally booked. This meant that we ended up sharing a family room with another girl when we had booked a PRIVATE room. To top it off, we were promised a double bed, with ensuite, for the remaining two nights, but again they've messed up the booking and could only offer us a double bed without any bathroom. This was after waiting most of the morning to find out if they could offer us a bedroom at all despite reassurances from the previous night. The level of disorganization has basically ruined our weekend.

This place is quite organised, just the shower and toilets were a bit messy but you know, some people are just dirty and they mess anywhere they go. Beds are nice, a lot of plugs and even usb connection, WiFi is fast and bedding is clean. Nothing to complain really... Maybe the stoves... Anyway 4 stars.

The hostel itself was fine, But the receptionist (Who we later found out was the manager?) was rude and rolled her eyes at us When we asked her a question about luggage storage. The other staff had the same bad attitude, and seemed annoyed when we ‘interupted’ their chatting to ask them something. Would not recommend.

The room was ok. I had a double with an ensuite, which was nice. My main complaint was the kitchen. It was disgusting and filthy. I boiled the kettle to make some tea, but there were no mugs. The kitchen is unhygienic and so poorly stocked. I was locked out of my room when my card stopped working at one point and the reception was closed. I could see that someone was in the back room, but even though I called out and rang the bell, they ignored me. I finally had to go around and pound on the door to get their attention. The reception was often closed, even during normal business hours. They certainly weren't busy cleaning the kitchen!

It was clean and comfortable throughout the entire facility. The bed was not very comfortable but it was bug free with clean sheets. I like the cabinets they had in the room; You can charge your phone while keeping it secure. Location is great. The staff were professional and helpful. And the price was comparable to the area.

Stay was so tragic Manger on reception was so unhelpful and rude after booking an 8 bed dorm room our friends were split over 2 rooms after confirming we could have the full room. It smelt bad and so unclean beds were unsafe with top banks not secured safely and held together with wire and duck tape after one night we couldn't stand the vibe and moved out only to be told there would b a cancelation fee after we had already payed the full 2 night cost and weren't asking for a refund. Rude untidy and bad management

Checked into our room to find it hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests stay and was absolutely filthy! Staff there were extremely rude and made us feel like we were an inconvenience to them.

Great hostel, prime location and the most friendly staff. Granted it’s the time of Covid, pre-Tasman bubble, so things are relatively quiet and the place is clean and lacks a real hostel vibe with activities to meet new people and such, but I loved it. Cannot beat the location, felt safe at night and easy to walk to everything on Queen Street or the nearby bus. Bed was really comfortable, bunk beds are solid and don’t make heaps of noise when the top bunk mate gets down in the middle of the night. Stayed in a 4-bed dorm and there was ample space. Really appreciate the power plug in each locker so you could safely charge your devices while away from the room. Kitchen is well stocked with cutlery and cookware, and super impressed they provide cling wrap for guests! Very considerate. Lastly worth noting, big selection of books for exchange (take one, leave one) and good wifi throughout the building. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend.

Rooms, freshly renewed, were very clean and had good storage. Good electrical power and bedlight at each bunk and good privacy curtain. Kitchen is great: it is easy to get people to wash their dishes, EXCEPT. It is very difficult to get people to dry them when there are only 5 small towels. It would be much more efficient if dish draining racks were wall mounted, then no countertop space would be lost. As summer moves in, going to need good room fans. Good security system.close to K-Road, not close to grocery. Still, a good job overall by the Haka Group.

Wonderful stay, great staff and facilities! What a great stay I had in this hostel! First the location is great in the center of the city, very easy to walk anywhere. Parking spaces available for a decent fee if needed. All the staff is amazing, always very helpful and friendly! Great vibe in the hostel, quite social! Good facilities, 4$ laundry, free pool, chess and more. Clean kitchen, spacious enough for all the guest, everything is in great conditions, and good showers. Good wifi speed. About the rooms, the beds are amazing with the curtains and usb A/C sockets, and storage under the bed. Only bad thing is that it was too hot (really need AC or at least a big fan), particularly as my room for 6 was small. But overall I’d recommend 100% and it’s easily one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in!

Nice place for a fear rate night. Eventhough there are some facilities details, it is a nice place to stay. I'll be back again if necessary

Run down hostel with its location being the best thing. Rooms were OK, decent beds but limited storage. Bathrooms never felt clean. Rooms at back of hostel next to very noisy generator that came on around 7pm each night. Kitchen was poor - no freezer, most gas hobs didn't work, old/broken pots and pans and often no washing up liquid. Common area / kitchen have no windows so absolutely boiling during the day but it was large with plenty of space. Some receptionists very helpful others very rude and passive aggressive. They gave keys to our room to new guests who were checking in who walked in on us one evening which should not have happened. Luggage storage available but anyone could walk in off the street into it. Building itself is old and run down. Didn't feel too noisy which was nice. The best thing going for this hostel is its location - really central and close to everything you need in Auckland including trains and buses. You pay for the location not the facilities. Overall probably wouldn't book again.

I had a great experience in yha back in 2018. Is was so cozy and heartwarming place. Well, now the sanitation is not pleasant and they lack of facilities in the kitchen. But the staff are still super nice! I would give them 3.5 of 5

Very clean and super big kitchen very well equipped. The private room isn't the best because the windows are little and there are at the top of the wall, just serve for brighten. The wifi is mediocre. It is a quiet hostel and the staff is nice. The location could be better, because when you are coming back of the center, the last 2 block are very way up.

I love this hostel, friendly staff, large clean, easy to understand kitchen. Good Laundry services ($5.50 per wash, $5.50 to dry, no charge for powder) I’ve stayed in a smaller 4 bed male room and an 8 bed male room, both are pleasant, comfortable beds with lockers and power provided. It’s not as social as some but that’s what I like about it. YHA is also accredited as Carbon Zero. One of the best ones on my travels! Recommended.

The card key didn't work for my door, another group were unable to get out of their room. A bit shoddy tbh. Bed was comfortable though.

Rooms very nice, clean Service very helpful There's street with Asian food right around the corner Kitchen was not that clean and tidy - it was hard to find any mugs/bowls The showers were indeed disgusting - no ventilation, mold growing on the ceiling and shower and the floor was wet and sticky For sleepover okay

Friendly and helpful people. Very good price to stay a night. Just a street off Queen St. So very close to the action. Awesome. I enjoyed my stay, so thank you.

Rooms were mixed up, beds held together with tape and an electric cord, carpet in rooms stuck to your feet. After deciding we couldn't stay here another night we were spoken to so rudely and charged an extra cancelation fee. Avoid at all cost.. Dirty and terrible management!

Stayed for a week in a 4 bed dorm for a conference. The hostel itself is nice, and the staff are very nice! I do have a few minor gripes, but that's all - the pillows were dusty in both rooms I stayed in (I am particularly sensitive to dust as I have an allergy); and the toilets appear clean but rather old and worn out. The hostel itself is very central, and it's easy to catch an uber or taxi from outside. I was impressed with the place overall for what it is, and I will return for the same conference next year.

I was most impressed with this Youth Hostel - where I stayed for the first time. Many thanks to Blake for amazing telephone service booking my accommodation and he happened to be on reception at the same time - easy sign in & completion of the details regarding accommodation and parking. Well done YHA Auckland International - it was a delight to stay there. You cannot be held liable for the interesting neighbourhood sounds, but within your facility - all was very much pleasing to me. I also met beautiful people whilst staying there. Keep it up - Elizabeth P

I booked a room with ensuite which was ok, small as I expected, but adequate for one night. There was a large wooden unit along one side with a clothes rail but no clothes hangers provided. The bathroom had a modern toilet and handbasin, but old fashioned shower. No soap dispenser provided which I kind of expected in this type of room. The bed was comfortable. Cleanliness was ok, although a bit of mould on the shower curtain. Service is poor. The staff were slow and sullen at checkin, not at all welcoming. There is supposed to be wifi, with signs all around giving the password, but it really only works in the communal area downstairs. When you sign in it tells you there is a limit of 5GB per day, but due to the difficult access, I bet nobody uses even near that allowance. The location is good and central, and it's a pity this place isn't better. Overall it was poor value for the price charged.

If you need a lovely central place to stay in Auckland CBD I highly recommended this fantastic Hostel. Friendly, cultural, cheap, hygienic and comfortable. A must for all tourists.

The staff were really helpful and sweet. I had stayed in a four sharing room and had a pleasant stay. I don’t use the kitchen area but seemed to be alright. For the price and location seems pretty worth it.

Only there one night. Comfortable bottom bunk Bed. Much better than i expected or had in the past, at this Hostel. I had female room mates in my Dorm. Maybe the Female dorms are nicer? I was on Second Floor. I am Male and NOT Complaining.

Stayed 3 nights in a twin room with shared bathroom. Linens and room were clean. The light and charge points on the headboards were a nice touch. Blackout curtains were great. No air conditioning, but a fan is provided. WiFi was strong in the common area but didn’t work in our room. Shared bathroom was fine. Kitchen was also ok, mostly clean but disorganized, difficult to find a burner that works, and not much useable cookware or utensils. The facilities are tired, but you get a clean bed and hot showers. I’d still recommend it to travelers on a budget.

The room I got was completely damp and damaged from the rain, the staff didn’t apologize or had an alternative, just gave me wet towels to walk on. The staff was incredibly rude and downright inappropriate and unprofessional, and the facilities, especially the kitchen, were severely lacking

  • 3/5 Leilani H. 4 months ago on Google • 2 reviews
rooms themselves were fine but construction ongoing during my stay. i wish we had gotten a warning or maybe a discount- construction early in morning literally right outside your window and in the kitchen. nice that they’re renovating but they could have let us know :/ other than that, rooms are nice with good wifi and chargers at each bed & bathrooms fine. staff were nice & let me keep my luggage there during the day!
