Horrible experience. I understand it's affordable but if you can stay anywhere else, I suggest you do so. The cleanliness was questionable in the room since the garbage was full when we arrived in our private room. Everything was dingy and felt unclean. The kitchen was cleaned but blocked off so you couldn't even get some water for tea at 10am. The service was deplorable. We got kicked out of the lobby while waiting for our taxi to take us to the airport home. Who kicks people out of a lobby when waiting for a taxi home? We weren't making any noise or disturbing anyone. Just sitting and waiting and they kicked us out. Such horrific service I've never seen before. If you can, choose another place to stay.

Stayed in one of the smaller dorms but it's still unbearably hot. People in the room had a difficult time sleeping because of the heat /humidity (real feel 28-29 degree days). Apparently the larger dorms are worse so good luck if you want to stay comfortably. Other that those issues, pretty solid Hostel.

I stayed here for a week in one of the private rooms hoping for a longer term stay, but it wasn't really appropriate for that. Short term stays would be fine. The place was very clean and the facilities were much better than what you'd get in a lot of other backpackers. Most of the staff were very friendly and professional! It's also in a very convenient location in the city, close to pretty much everything you'd need. My room was quite disappointing for the price, as it was essentially just a bed and a childrens desk and chair (super small and uncomfortable). No storage space as well. Not so suitable for long term stay if you are studying. The main thing that I didn't appreciate was noise levels at night, the man in the room next to me making........ inappropriate noises all night every night. Since the private rooms don't have a complete wall (theres a large gap at the top of the wall connecting to the hallway, pretty much everything you say can be heard. Obviously the loud guy wasn't the fault of the staff, but I reckon those walls need to be blocked off for more privacy. Bring earplugs! I also didn't appreciate coming out of the shower to see a male member of staff cleaning the bathroom. Maybe do it when there aren't any girls using the bathrooms, or hire a female staff? Overall I had a decent stay, however if you are looking for a private room longer term I would go elsewhere.

This was my first solo experience staying in a hostel and I could not have picked a better location to do so. I stayed for a week and felt that the space was clean, social, and safe. The guy working there was kind, helpful in terms of navigating and finding new opportunities in the city, and on top of it making sure it was tidy and no one made anyone else uncomfortable. All in all an awesome experience and I would recommend Attic to all travelers. 5/5

I only stayed here for a few days, but I really enjoyed it! The location is perfect – everything is within walking distance – and the facilities are nice and clean. Staff are chill and friendly. Only minor complaint might be the possibly thin walls which made sleeping difficult (the person in the room next to mine snored a lot!), but some earplugs solved the issue. Thank you so much for the overall pleasant experience!

First time at a hostel out of home, was greeted by the friendly Phil, he showed me around and got my bearings, place was incredibly well kept and the environment was pleasant and fun to be around! Thanks for making the place a really welcoming atmosphere and making me feel at home!

Cruisey vibe,, Phillip the house keeper, super friendly always ready to help out and make you feel welcome. Staying here was a great opportunity to meet all sorts of friendly people on the same traveling journey :))

Had a good stay at this hostel! It's very thoughtfully designed, with several different public areas including a roof deck, a chill room, and a more social lounge area. The kitchen was the nicest I've seen in a hostel with plenty of space for everyone. Showers, laundry and bedding were all fine and functional. The location is great. I wish the beds had been more solid and less rickety (when the person on the top bunk moved the whole thing shook).

I stayed here over the recent lockdown and was so relieved to find somewhere after just arriving in the city! The location is awesome, in the middle of the city, but also near Albert Park for an afternoon stroll. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and the facilities are great. Would definitely recommend staying here when travel is allowed again!

Just a really solid hostel. The whole place was clean and tidy, with a really nice atmosphere. Heaps of tips and recommendations on where to eat and what to do in the city, and the staff were super helpful and friendly. Some areas like the deck and the entrance were a bit run-down, as were the bathrooms, but still clean and perfectly fine to use. Would definitely stay here again!

Phill was amazing! Such a nice bloke who made everyone feel at home and willing to help out with anything you need regardless of the time. The other people staying were awesome and Phill/Fred had organised nights out where everyone got to mingle! The best hostel in Auckland!

We were in a big group and booked two rooms for two nights. The place itself is nice, clean and tidy. However the customer service was not great as we had problems with: - The amount of keys they gave it to us. We were in 18 people with 6 keys. - They did not even let us stay at reception while waiting for our flights back to Wellington (We only needed to wait for two hours). - The receptionist was rude with us and kicked us out with no reason. Also she kept saying we lost one of the keys from a room that we did not even stay. - They charged us a $360 bond out of the blue. We were never informed about that in advance. Won't stay there again.

Attic is in a good location to the Main Street, supermarket and not a far walk from the Dock. The staff are excellent here - we arrived on a super early flight and were so accommodating, they helped us sort bits for our work holiday visa and were overall really friendly. The staff are definitely what make this place! You do have to pay for early check in and any documents you may need. They also provide lots of helpful posters with recommendations for food, coffee etc. they were very helpful! The facilities are very clean, lots of utensils in the kitchen and the communal spice rack is great! The bedrooms are nice and clean, but the one we were in was very cold even with a heater and a blanket. I do understand some of the other reviews as Other than this great stay!

I had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at Attic. It’s thoroughly designed with considering privacy while providing comfortable areas for communication like Lubby and a big kitchen. The rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were clean and the staff was super friendly. The location is also great and walkable to Queen St and Harbour. I highly recommend this hostel.

Highly recommend! Most obvious great thing about the place is the great location. The accomodation is big and the service has been great, both online and in person. It is obvious that they value cleanliness as the staff cleans daily, and it shows. Both the bedrooms and the common areas such as kitchen and bathroom are and feel very clean! They also have a great terrace where you can enjoy the sun or warm nights outside. A great stay when going to Auckland!

All in all, it's an average hostel. They have a nice big kitchen and the central location is very convenient. On the other hand, the whole place is a bit dated (try to guess the original color of that brown carpet they have in almost the whole place). Furthermore, the rules, that they enforce, just feel weird: no luggage storage after 2 pm? Why? The new guests will have checked in by then, so the storage room is just empty for the rest of the day. You cannot stay in the common area before check in or after check out - unless, of course, you pay for an extra night, then it is no problem. So it seems more like a way to make some extra money.

Just hands down great! Highly recommended! The bundle bed might be noisy but all good, the whole environment is very friendly and cozy and exceptionally CLEAN!! Nothing scratchy or weird. Guests are all respectful and polite. And no need to mention the great location for easy access to everything touristy. Thank you for running this place with love ❤️

A really great hostel ! It is located in the middle of Auckland, only 10 mins walk from the train station ! The staff is so nice and it's very clean ! Do not hesitate, pay 10$ more than the cheapest hostel, but you will be in a good place to stay and will meet a lot of nice people ! Perfect to start your trip in NZ !

Pros It's a social hostel in a good location. Cons I didn't find the hostel particularly clean, and the staff were unhelpful/quite rude when I asked to leave bags and use the washroom slightly before check-in time.

From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable. Great vibe and environment. Will definitely stay again. Very clean too.

Good location and really really friendly and helpful staff. The staff are, largely, what make this place. Kitchen is decent - appreciate the communal spice shelf! Only downsides are the building and rooms are very cold, and there were a few odd characters staying and hanging around in the hostel that made me feel a bit uncomfortable. Other than these few point. Decent hostel

Reception was extremely friendly and the central location was superb! The lift was godsend and I would definitely book again. Just one thing, there were quite a few pieces of hair that was on the blanket, hope that doesn't happen again next time 😆

Great location, very clean , is a hostel world wide people from everywhere good spot to start and they do working for accomodation! If you want to save a little bit 😜

The staff were friendly and helpful and were able to provide me a good accommodation in a pinch at very short notice (within the hour!) The eatery recommendations were also very handy, and I was very grateful for my stay. It would have been nice a have a space heater provided in the room upon arrival, but I suppose I should have thought to ask for one at reception while it was still open. Still, excellent backpacker/s.

Affordable. Great location. The building its self has a lift that needs to be repaired. Panel is coming off on top of the lift. Also strong smell of fish and rubbish. I would give this place 10/10 if they fixed these two things..the manager is very welcoming.

The reviews were right, such a nice hostel!! Great ambience, facilities and staff. There’s space to socialize but also to sit down quiet and work in your laptop. There’s so much space, it doesn’t feel crowded, it’s really comfortable. People backpacking there were also kind, lots of nationalities. Thanks for everything. Would definetly come back.

I was really happy with my stay at the Attic. The location was great, the staff was friendly, and the amenities were what I expected for a hostel. Overall there was some wear and tear and aging, but I thought the value was in line with what I paid for.

So glad I chose to stay at this hostel. Perfect location, clean rooms and awesome staff. Good vibe over the weekend too. Social spaces are far from bedrooms so you can still get a decent sleep!!! Highly reccommend this place :)

i stayed at the attic backpackers for a week and a half and oh my god it was AMAZING!!! this is the hostel you wanna stay at. i felt really safe and i met so many incredible people and had a great night out with people i had met. the rooms are all really lovely and get cleaned daily. all of the amenities at the attic are great too. there is a big outdoor area next to the kitchen and dining room. throughout the hostel there are posters of things to do, where to eat, where to go out and heaps of other things too. the attic is about a five minute walk the sky tower which is a great landmark for when you’re getting picked up for tours and meeting up with people. the hostel managers phil and fred were so incredibly amazing, two of the nicest blokes you’ll ever meet. great customer service and even better stories. i loved my time at the attic and i’ll definitely be back when i come back to auckland. thanks again for everything guys, miss partying with you!! p.s wish i could give 6 stars :)

Location is great, especially for intercity users, just near the skytower. The service is ok, staff are helpful. However, the room is kind of humid with low frequency noise from outside the window. It's quite annoying. The handle of door is loose, showering room's door would open by itself, kind of low quality of maintainence.

Every other hostel we have stayed at in Auckland has been relaxed about us using the communal areas outside of our check in and check out times. What makes this hostel so special that they need to kick people out as soon as their time is up? The communal areas look disgusting despite the fact staff always seem to be in the process of cleaning the place. Maybe if you were running a 5 star hotel then you could be rude to your guests taking advantage of the facilities, but this is easily the worst hostel we've stayed at in Auckland so far - even LyLo is better than this place.

I've stayed in many hostel/backpackers and this one is by far the best. Clean, plenty space, plenty facilities and all round very convenient. The staff were very friendly and I always saw them cleaning or helping someone out. Kitchen space was huge with plenty cutlery and pottery, hot water and even free food. The environment was a bonus, everyone was so kind and as a solo female traveler I felt very safe here. Location is a bonus, close to the city so a 5 min walk or short bus trip would take you right there. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone...Thoroughly enjoyed myself here and my favorite spot was the roof top area and guest lounge.

We’ve stayed at numerous hostels in Auckland, but this is by far the worst. The location was decent but some major drawbacks meant we had a poor stay here: -The hostel overall is shabby and dirty. There was mould on the seating outside, duct tape held the roof together and the floors were disgusting. -Rules and guidelines are worded patronisingly, with passive-aggressive instructions on keeping tidy and being patient for the shower to get hot... but maybe that’s because many guests here can’t seem to wash up any dishes and fill the bins to the brim with alcohol bottles. Expect a throwback to all the worst parts of student accommodation. -Cleaning seem to happen whenever the staff feel like it- the kitchen randomly closed at 10am on our first day while we were making breakfast and we were chased out by an aggressive member of staff. Kitchen closing times are normal in hostels of course, but this was not mentioned anywhere in the hostel and had no consistency. Staff came into the clean the room before the 10am checkout time. -The room was too hot and poorly ventilated, making it difficult to sleep. -The hostel overall was over-crammed, with too many people stuffed into a small space. It felt claustrophobic. -We were not allowed to use any facilities after checkout, despite this been absolutely fine in all the other hostels we’ve stayed in. -The outside decking area could be a nice place to sit if they didn’t permit smoking there. If you’d like to keep your lungs it becomes an unpleasant place to sit and eat. Those who want to smoke should have to go downstairs onto the street. -Rooms were extremely basic compared to most other hostels available. No individual lights or plug sockets for the beds, doors don’t lock automatically, no storage lockers in the rooms. The above issues made this over-priced for what it was and a poor value for money compared to other hostels in the city.

Warm, friendly ,open atmosphere ! Everyone is super sweet and the place is kept pretty clean! Phil,Fred, and Felix go out of their way to make sure it’s a wonderful hostel to be a part of ! They are super friendly and accommodating and always want to get to know the people in the hostel . Makes it’s feel like a home away from home. Will return ! -shaida

Super easy to make new friends from over all the countries. Cheap price with shared room Before get in to the hostel, the elevator feel a little creepy.

  • 4/5 RASATA L. 1 year ago on Google
Clean and tidy. Probably the most acceptable and convenient hostel in Auckland CBD. I would totally recommend this one compared to other hostels in Auckland city centre only because other hostels I stayed in, were just a horrible experience. Been to better hostels in New Zealand though but this one has the basics you're probably looking for from a backpacker hostel experience

  • 2/5 Ella H. 1 year ago on Google
Definitely will not be staying here again. Pros: Good location Nice bedding Hot water Nice kitchen and common space Cons: No AC Rooms are musty and smell Fans in room (1 or 2 depending on # of people in the room) do nothing to help with the heat You will sweat almost constantly unless you stay very still and even then its humid... Service (you are served by work away people usually, they were very blunt and didn’t care or make you feel at home)

Great location for exploring Auckland by foot or bus. Everything was clean and functional. As a solo female traveller, I felt safe here. There was a good mix of ages and the spaces were great for socializing. Expect some noise as you are right down town, but totally manageable with ear plugs.

  • 2/5 Jay S. 1 year ago on Google
Very basic hostel. Kind of dim and outdated. Earplugs are an absolute essential, the walls are super thin and there's some sort or super loud generator that runs 24/7 right outside the building. The windows are also extremely thin yet the room gets very stuffy and hot. I can't open the window at night because of all the noise and the window is so thin that it's still very loud with it closed.

Not the most experienced in hostels. But this stay was a bless! The atmosphere was amazing, well organised, rooms were clean and common areas were also cleaned regularly.

  • 3/5 Kevin M. 1 year ago on Google
Attic is adequate hostel with a great location. The rooms were spacious & staff was friendly. My issue is the cleanliness of the bathrooms & kitchen were subpar & the atmosphere is very souless.

  • 5/5 Steve H. 1 year ago on Google
In my last two weeks that I was in Auckland, the Attic Backpackers felt like a home away from home. The bed was comfy as. The services and cleanliness is next to nothing, shout out to my man Felix and his dedication to the job. Fred and Phil on reception were beyond amazing, very helpful and easy to talk to. The ammenities were amazing, even down to having a chill room. The place made you feel like it was your whānau. Everyone was warm and welcoming. My only regret is leaving so soon. Next time I'm in Tamaki Makaurau I plan on staying at the Attic.
