Spent 2 weeks at the hostel at the beginning of my 1 year trip : I had such a good time, met some great people I'll no doubt see again ; the perfect way to start my journey. The staff was so friendly and helful whenever we needed help or advice ; the room comfortable and peaceful ; the kitchen big and well furnished ; everything very clean. Would 100% recommend !

Really nice and peaceful. No constant music playing! 💚 The best night’s sleep I’ve had in NZ. Good, clean facilities. Especially liked the massive kitchen/dining room – loads of space to cook and eat. My only suggestion would be to maybe fit some shelves in the bathrooms to place your things; that’d be pretty handy.

The best hostel for me in New Zealand. The rooms are large and beautiful. All common areas are very clean. And the price is very reasonable! I really recommend it and will be happy to come back if I go back to New Zealand. Thank you for everything.

A friendly hostel in lovely old buildings. Staff were very helpful and beds were comfy. Great kitchen and lounge areas. The room smelled a bit like feet but otherwise a great stay

Nice small and calm hostel, walking distance 5 min to Cafes and shops, 20 min to citycenter. Hostel provides kitchen, living room, garden, and laundry. Very friendly staff. I especially like that they have a collection bin for clothes to go to charity, that is very sustainable.

Would give 10 stars if it was possible! We really enjoyed our stay here. It's really well located, just 20 minute walk to the city centre, and with a beautiful park just behind that you can also enjoy from the backyard. The hostel is so welcoming and the staff too. Everything is clean and tidy, the kitchen is very well equipped and has lots of storage to keep food. It has a friendly vibe and you meet people from everywhere but still quiet and nice at night to get proper rest. We loved it. Will definitely come again anytime soon 😊

The best hostels I have stayed in! It’s super clean the fridge has enough space even if the hostel is full, the bathrooms are really updated and clean the backpackers who clean here are super friendly and really care for the hostel standards it’s an amazing hostel and just attracts good people. The receptionist and hostel owner are super nice and really care for you, give you great tips for your time in Auckland. If you in Auckland add this hostel to your bucket list it’s an experience it self! Thank you we will be back

One of the best hostels Ive stayed in! Relaxed atmosphere, well kept buildings, comfy beds, everything is kept very clean, nice garden overlooking the city and park, friendly staff and owner... Place to stay when you're in town

Clean, quiet, wonderful. Great facilities. Close to local shops. Not to far out of town. The owner is super helpful. Lounge and kitchen are excellent. If you keep a top 5 hostels list, you will be adjusting it after staying here

Great place to stay, nice people, super affordable! They have bathrooms/showers (bring your own toiletries and towel) and laundry machines for guests to use. Nice kitchen too. Short walk to Ponsonby shops, food, and grocery store.

Absolutely lovely. Gorgeous hostel in two spacious villas within Ponsonby. Large and clean rooms, with a great kitchen/lounge area downstairs. By far the best hostel in Auckland.

The best hostel in Auckland. Campbell and Donna and very kind and helpful. The guests are all kind of ages. Very quiet and with a huge garden

I had to share a room with staff. I didn't think it was fair on me as I wanted to meet fellow travellers, nor was it fair on the staff having to share with different guests every night. Otherwise stay would have been a genuinely good backpacker hostel.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms feature a tall ceiling and beautiful architecture. The bathrooms are individual and they're super clean. Note that there are 2 buildings and if your room is a "C" or alphabet then it's not in the building where the office is but the other one. Super quiet. Street parking and felt safe. Would stay again.

I loved this hostel! Rooms and bathrooms were clean and the communal areas felt very homely. I met some lovely people whilst I was there so it gave me the impression that people wanting to be sociable and friendly 🥰 would deffo stay again!

Easily the nicest hostel me and my partner have stayed at in Auckland. Gutted we've only managed to book 3 nights here so far. Photos don't do the place justice.

Great location, close to all the essentials, cheap rooms with a homely feel, friendly helpful owner, highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay in the middle of Auckland, will definitely be my go to whenever I'm up here

The location was amazing we never had to wait for a bathroom. Loved the park next door. Staff was really nice. Good kitchen and love that they compost. Rooms are very basic and it wasn’t very social. Biggest issue was definitely the wifi always stopped working.

Great location, clean rooms & bathrooms, comfortable beds and with a nice garden little garden just next to a park. The kitchen is well equipped, the lounges are cozy and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I can really recommend it for travelers that want to be close to the center but not on the noisy big roads. Great for solo travellers.

Multiple fellow travelers said that this is the best Hostel in Auckland. The service is so friendly, the facilities are very good, and together with the location and the great places to chill in the hostel - I really had a great experience here

A really nice place for starting or ending a trip to New Zealand. The friend is very friendly and helps a lot with everything. The rooms don't have bunk beds and some are really big which is nice. When you sit outside you have a nice look into the park so it doesn't feel like being in a big city at all. The facilities are very clean and the kitchen has a decent size for the number of beds. The bus stop is just around the corner and it is only a 15 minute bus ride to town.

One of the best Backpackers I've stayed in so far. Really professional staff, modern and sophisticated house, always cleaned, beautiful view on the park and the sky tower from the balcony. There have a car park and it's close to everything (Auckland central, bar, restaurant, Countdown...).

  • 5/5 Bernice Kathryn F. 4 years ago on Google
Very good location with a nice view of the city (sky tower) from the veranda. Cozy lounge areas, good size kitchen and clean bathrooms. Some parts of the house are under repair possibly due to expansion. The lodge is just next to Western Park and trendy Ponsonby. There's Countdown (grocery), food hall nearby and restaurants along Ponsonby. One of the best hostels to stay at if you want to be close enough to the city without being in the overly crowded city centre. Excellent customer service as well.

Really nice hostel close to the central of Auckland but not too close. It's not as busy as on Queen Street which I really liked. Nice view and easy access to a park. Rooms are small and clean as well as the bathrooms. Stuff is nice and there is also a big countdown nearby.

Best place to stay in Auckland. Clean and comfortable with the loveliest atmosphere, and excellently located in terms of local conveniences (loooads of great cafes, shops, bars, bus stops nearby, and a supermarket around the corner), but far enough away from the CBD. And beautiful views across the park! Several social areas and a big, sociable (and well kitted out) kitchen and dining room which is great for getting to know other guests (and Campbell and Lorraine who are true legends!). I've stayed in hostels with great facilities and hostels with a warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and Verandahs is one of those rare and magical unicorns which has both.

Such a great hostel. Let's first talk about the obvious. It is so well located, the cod is in close reach with the bus, the hostel is quiet but still not "off grid", bars etc. are in short reach by foot. The rooms also are very nice, spacious and most importantly clean. The bathrooms are also clean and in pleasant quantity. Additionally the showers have a good temperature and water pressure. Having experienced that everyone around this hostel is super nice contributed to this hostel having a very nice atmosphere. This is amplified by the fact that the hostel has a big communal kitchen where many people are hanging around which makes making friends very easy. Additionally the owner is also nice and always willing to help if you have any questions. The one thing I could point out as a negative is the missing lockers for personal valuables, but I didn't really feel like they were missing because the hostel felt very safe. Another thing I would have pointed out as negative is the fact that it was very cold in the hostel because of the missing heating and missing double- glassed windows. Note that the rooms do have heaters but they are electric and portable and not the permanently installed like it is common in e.g Germany. But finding out that this seems to be a common thing in New Zealand I can't really mention this as a negative, just something one should keep in mind when they are arriving in New Zealand in the Winter.

Great Hostel. For the price you will not get a 5-Star-Hotel but the place is great, friendly and helpful owner, amazing neighborhood (especially regarding restaurants and nightlife). A supermarket is close by, and you can walk to the waterfront in roughly 20 minutes. All shared facilities were clean and well usable, a big garden is part of the place and can be used as well. I would absolutely go again.

Good hostel. It’s clean, well organized, facilities are good and beds are comfy. Kitchen a bit small and quite noisy in the night because of the big windows. And pricy as well. Also, not very nice that people put the blinds open at 8 am when they wake up…think of others who still want to sleep please. Staff is friendly, but a map of where the things are would’ve been use-full for late arrivals (not only the key).
