Black Dog Burger is more than a burger place, it’s to what many people have described as “home”. The burgers to which you are served are what Times Magazine has described as “passion on a plate”. To think you can get this delectable culinary delight for a mere $18 is to what Robin Hood did to the rich years before (stealing). I came to this establishment for a mere meal, and left with the power of love. If Spongebob was still with us, he too would admit this place is better than the Krabby Patty Formula.

The burger was delicious and the fries were cooked perfectly. I got the special that includes a premium burger, fries, and a beer for $21. I got the smokehouse burger which has onion rings and jalepenos. The beer I chose was Chomp, a New Zealand Pale Ale. I highly recommend this place.

The burgers were good and the staff were friendly, but the chips were a little bit disappointing. Overall it was a good experience.

Black Dog burger is a culinary experience. The burger is crafted with precision and excellence rarely seen in the restaurants without a Michelin star. The service is exemplary and it helps that the two workers look as if they have been carved out of marble by Michelangelo himself. Black dog burger offers a lively atmosphere akin to attending Woodstock in 1969 or a gladiator battle in Ancient Rome at the coliseum. At black dog burger you are not simply visiting a burger restaurant, you are having a life altering experience that will transform you into the person you were meant to be.

Located at the corner of Empire Hotel. Signage isn’t big so can be easy to miss. Portions are very generous. Smash burger was good but would have loved the option to add another patty. Would come back and try their fried chicken burger. Small seating area with 3 tables and a few counter seats.

The food is absolutely amazing. I came here 3 days in a row, and it would be more if I lived closer, but I live in the USA ;(. The fries were great, the smash burger was great, the chicken sandwich was great, the hours aren't great but that seems to be a thing in Auckland. Hope this place catches on and grows to more places.

This burger restaurant is attached to the Empire Tavern, where I regularly attend the weekly Tuesday Quiz Night. My favourite option (when considering price and taste) is to come here and get a burger and fries. The food is really good and prices cheap for what you get. The workers are always friendly, despite the fact that they're often rushed when I go (because there are lots of other people who like the burgers as much as I do).

Excellent Burgers. Had Brisket Burger and Double cheese Burger, and it was worth. Ordered Beer combo with it which came with tap DOG FATHER beer and chips. Tried this beer for the first time and it was great to go with burger. Friendly staff and good service. Definately going to come back again and highly recommended.

Fantastic establishment. I had the vege burger and it was absolutely delicious. Food was of the highest standard and being able to add the sauce for the fries ourselves was a real treat. Would definitely dine again. At first we sat at the table in the middle, the door was open and it was a brisk night. That wasn't great. But when some other customers left we moved over to the booths and had no further complaints.

Went in for two burgers and two beers after seeing the high ratings. The burgers were fresh, well prepared and delicious. There was a choice of only two draft beers. The area was fitted with heavy bench tables and we chose those over the very loud tavern and garden room adjoining. Counter ordering and self service pick up. $56. I guess inflation has also hit NZ.

As a coeliac, I've been really impressed with how attentive they've been to avoiding cross-contamination as much as possible (admittedly I'm taking on some risk). Great food - highly recommend the bacon double cheeseburger!

Great food, great prices. Little things could make it more polished, like napkins... salt and pepper other than that and perhaps staff asking if we need a menu. The place was great, amazing price for in CBD. Great place overall, would 100% go back.

I can't for the life of me figure out what set it apart from others, but this is in my top 5 best burgers. There's nothing fancy about the burger, it's just plain good. $25 for a burger, fries, and a soft drink is pretty hefty but it's at least worth it. Service has also been really friendly both times I've come here.

Great burger, everything was super fresh (like really fresh) pattie was very dense steaky and full of flavour, onion rings were crispy as, and was all served pretty much straight off the hotplate!! I got a beef smash burger, fries and coke combo for $25. Cheers team was a good feed, just what I needed after a long day of delayed flights :)

Used to be the best burger. We've eaten here as a weekly team lunch 4 times this month the burgers have gone SIGNIFICANTLY down hill. Meat patties are gristly (full of cartilage) and super rubbery. Avoid, just go next door for beer only.

Burgers are not bad not amazing either. Fries were very tasty and nailed that nice spot where they're crunchy but still soft inside. Prices are good only bad thing is the place is very noisy because of the big bar next door and the waiting was very long

Had to escape the rain and Black Dog was right across the street and on my to-try list. As far as my personal Best Burgers in AKL list goes, tbh this one isn't ranking that high, but still beats places like Better Burger. More than once I was getting nothing but bun in my bite, but at least it tasted okay. Surprisingly limited burger options than what I expected for some reason. Most aren't beef burgers but other sammies like pulled pork BBQ or chicken. The place is really clean though and the one big thing going for them is a $15 combo of ANY* burger + a beer + fries. Def hard to beat that w the beer addition. Sadly only 2 beer taps though from the Black Dog Brew Co so don't expect too much variation.

To me one of the best burger places here in Auckland. It’s small but the food is great! They have a tendency to be really busy which causes long wait times. Recommend the chicken tenders! (Quite hidden on the menu) it’s my favourite dish!
