My partner and I were celebrating a special occasion tonight and decided to treat ourselves to a nice dinner. We picked Jervois as it’s been awhile since we had their A5 sirloin. Unfortunately the dinner was very disappointing. The A5 sirloin coming in at $160 odd dollars (see photo), was basically uneatable because of how salty it had been seasoned. We did manage to force down 1/3 of it at best because we didn’t want to waste our money. But considering how much we paid for the steak, it’s really quite disappointing. The Caesar salad was also incredibly salty which we couldn’t force ourselves to eat either. Perhaps a bit of consistent quality control is needed in the kitchen, as the fresh oysters and prawns entree came out fine. At the of the day, Jervois is a steak house and the steaks did not deliver (at all this time around). 😓 Update next morning: My partner had a bad stomach ache and the runs (I only had an mildly upset tummy). We’re assuming that it’s because he ate more of the steak than I did. Perhaps the excess salt was to cover the steak that had gone off? Really hope that wasn’t the case.

Overall was brilliant, the beef tasted good. Highly recommend having the wagyu series. The dessert was also good to try but not a must.

One of those places you'd go for a special occasion or for a nice dinner. Premium experience (pricey but the "value for money" here is the quality of food and service), what do they put in the onion rings man.. They're so crunchy 😍

Great staff, looked after the whole night with our Argentinian host. Ordered the A5 Wagu ($190) and $200 T-bone for 2. Lots of good sides too. Sauces were good, bearnaise, peppercorn, jalapeño hollandaise, red wine jus and garlic butter. First time at Jervois Steak House and will definitely be going again. Have been to lots of Steak Restaurants and should have been sooner. Food was very good and the host made the night. Table was upstairs. Recommended

Simply the best Steak there is. Tried the Wagyu Rump and Scotch Fillet and it was well worth it. Been there a few times and we always enjoy the experience.

Top 3 steaks in the NZ! Definitely recommend to anyone who wanna the best steak. Other foods are good but not as good as steaks. Love it! The only thing is waiting time is a little bit long, but it worth!

A good place to enjoy Kiwi-style steaks in a classy atmosphere. Crowded, so reservations are essential. Enjoy the huge T-bone steaks with a large group. (My favarite is beef tartar.) There are many kinds of wine, and those who like it will surely be satisfied.

If you are a Steak connoisseur and know your quality cuts, you will love it here! We had a work group of 6 take the chance at a very expensive steak dinner. And it was delicious. The decor, ambience and staff service was excellent!...Well done here team! We had a couple of starters of bread, tasty butter and oils. But basically we ordered Mains straight away. The menu is extensive but not too crazy. It's extensive for the meat range, which I love. My colleague went all out and ordered the A5 300gm Wagyu $163 and King Crab legs $54 atop the steak. My hubby and I both ordered the 300gm Carerra Scotch $90. I had the King crab legs and my hubby had the prawns atop his steak. It was FAB. We all ordered several side dishes which were all delicious as well. The drinks were lovely, I had a couple of mocktails and they tasted devine. We dropped some serious money on the night, but I was fully aware of what I was going into. It's not for everyone but if you want a great night, I highly recommend.

Came here for dinner with a group of friends for dinner. A vast selection of cuts of meat to choose from. I ordered the Wagyu Scotch and Kingfish for entrée. Had the pecan kumara as a side. The calamari and king crab entrée were also nice. Steak was perfectly cooked and Jervois Steak House lives up to it's name and reputation

We visit occasionally, beautiful steaks and their sauces are fantastic. Love their sides, portion is generous and will definitely fill you up. Their service is excellent and even though it’s not cheap but I find it to be good value given the quality of their food. A bit hard to park in the area, you may have to go a bit further and turn into the side roads.

Steaks tasted amazing and the truffle Mac and cheese were to die for! Quite pricey and portion size for sides much smaller than when I last came here so don’t expect to get full from sides. We also got the steaks medium rare but one steak was closer to rare side and the other closer to medium (so turned out a bit tough - a shame for wagyu). Good dining ambience and dishes were served promptly. Not a perfect experience so 4 stars.

We actually choose this restaurant to celebrate my anniversary in NZ. My husband likes steak so thats why I thought it would be a good idea to try out this steakhouse. Its not your everyday steakhouse since its a bit expensive most especially for a bigger family. Eventhough we decided to order most of the menu as a shared plate, it is still pricey 😬💸. We ordered Angus rump medium rare + mushroom sauce and red wine jus. It was above my expectations. Will recommend this. We also ordered the fresh oyster, it was also yum. half a dozen is not enough for our hungry tummy 🤣. We also ordered the JSH classic beef tartare at first we were thinking why is it a bit salty on some part but then staff-Armin from JSH told us that it should be mix so you could actually appreciate the taste and texture of the menu. Staff Armin was actually an exceptional staff. Knowledgeable and has a pleasant personality. Job well done. 👌🥂

A disappointment! Return visit to a restaurant we enjoyed to celebrate my son’s 30th birthday only be let down by poor service and uninspired food. Food - Entrees good although unacceptably small bread portions to accompany liver parfait and burrata. Mains $87 for a finger thick flat almost minute steak. No plating effort at all. Just a slab of meat on a plate with some dribbles of jus. Service – Very poor, took over 1.5hrs to serve mains without any update from waiting staff. When inquired we were met with an excuse of a new chef instead of an apology (new chef shouldn’t be scheduled alone on a busy Friday night). Salt and pepper were not on the table and had to take it ourselves off the fireplace. Staff waiting other tables intentionally avoided eye contact further proving overall poor service. When leaving down the stairs was cutoff by a staff member who was performing closing duties (she apologised when we met at the top of the stairs however continued to cut us off and DIDN’T let us go first instead we have to follow behind her). When providing feedback to the manager, he seemed disengaged and impatient for us to leave so he could close the restaurant for the night a sign of poor management in addition to poor staff. Overall verdict 2/5 – Will not be returning. A booking for 8:30 we left the restaurant at 11pm without dessert after being rushed out by waiting staff. When paying for an upmarket meal I expect better service than would I get from pub.

My partner and I had come here for the past almost 8-9 years. Everytime we came in the past we always had the best experience, best food, best SERVICE most of all. One time years ago, my partner and I were in JANDALS, shorts and singlet and altho they had a dress code, they still agreed to serve us but outside. Now even though we weren't dressed for it (spontaneous lunch) they still treated us like humans and gave us great service. They didn't look down on us and treat us like we were a dumb, young couple. So we hadn't been in a few years bc of life (covid, settling into new jobs etc) and we are now both young professionals. My partner even owns his own business, yet when we decided to come back again the service was horrible. Firstly, the Filipino lady, manager, whatever was so condescending. Why even be in a customer facing, service based job if you hate people? Or maybe she just hated us bc we just finished work and weren't dressed as fancy as the other customers. Don't judge us on how we look, lady. Just bc we chose not to dress fancy you treat us like were below all the other customers? Not to mention she snatched my partners Christmas gift voucher out of his hand while paying bc it had $200 limit and she got mad and said we should have told her in the first place. OK.... lol. Yet the other customers she was so happy and smiling. Wth? Honestly. Why even be in a customer facing job then? Also, we hadn't been there in a few years so my partner asked if they still had the bone marrow on the menu and she SCOFFED, gave us a face like "omg look at these peasants" and said to us "ugh, no we don't have bone marrow" in a condescending tone. I wish I could make this up but I can't even stop thinking about how annoyed I am by her after 2 days. None of that experience was worth $230+ at all. And just bc we we used a gift voucher doesn't mean we don't have money, LADY. It was a Christmas gift and we DO have the money to spend. We've been spending it at Jervois steak house for 8-9 years thank you very much. You weren't even staff at rhe restaurant and we were going there so keep your snide looks and comments to yourself. Terrible experience. Have already told friends and family this place has gone down the toilet (which is extremely disappointing)

It's not cheap but you can't fault this place. Steak is perfect, you may as well be cutting it with light sabers. The sides were just as good. Very polished service, the best steaks in town.

Came in for lunch today and was warmly greeted by Alex who was incredible throughout our whole experience, showing us the cuts of steak on offer and coming to check to make sure everything was good. The steaks and sides were fantastic and the whole staff were so welcoming and kind. Would come back here in a heartbeat! 10/10

My mom and I had the pleasure of dining here while we were visiting for the World Cup. Both of us left super impressed by the quality of service and food. The Chef's Board is perfect to share among two and all the sauces (especially the Green Peppercorn and Jalapeno Hollandaise) were delicious. Great sides as well! Don't hesitate to come here.

You can't beat the steak here, you will end up comparing all other restaurants to this. Top shelf service, top shelf wine and top shelf food. Great for lunch and dinner, keep an eye on their website for specials and special occasions

Had a wonderful steak dinner on Sunday night. The service is very attentive and friendly while the scotch steak was nicely marbled and perfectly cooked to medium rare for my liking. The burrata salad was delicious as well. Highly recommend this for meat lovers.

Such a great experience! All 6 steaks were beautifully cooked and the wine pairing was perfect. Our waiter Armin (hope we got that right) provided incredible service, an integral part of our experience here. We hope to be back again soon!

Great service from the waiter/manager, showed us the selection of steaks we could order. Food came promptly and water was always topped up, dessert was also offered. Quiet vibe on a Sunday night, I enjoyed it. Would come back for special occassions.

From handcrafted and perfected cocktails to perfectly selected cuts of meat, this place was AMAZING! We celebrated my husband's 35th birthday at the Auckland location, and our experience was nothing short of perfection. The apps were delicious and the steaks were cooked EXACTLY how they should be. My Dad had the petit filet, my husband the Scotch filet, and I took down the 800g T-bone. The meat sweats afterwards were totally worth it. The sides came in hearty portions and were very tasty. I wish we lived in NZ because we'd definitely go back!

The Jervious Steak House sits right at the top of the price range. Steak prices at well over the $100.00+ point. They were extremely busy, and the service was extremely slow, to the point of:- "what's happening"!!. Extras, Small side dishes at $12.00 were expensive, especially for example a small side of chips. I ordered a blue Wagyu Scotch fillet steak at $95.00. This was blue, however only just blue in the very middle, the rest ranged from medium/well done, because the steak was unevenly cut across, being thin on one side, tapering off to thick on the other side. Evidence of the steaks cross section can be seen in the first photo, together with the degree of cooking to the left. I queryed the waiter about the cooking of this at the time, but was assured it would not a problem😕. Another issue with this, it was too heavily salted, which was a shock in the first mouthful. Quite frankly we have had far better cooked steaks at the old Angus Steak House, and for a fraction of the price! I should have sent it back but then, I would have waited a very long time for a replacement. Wines, Good choice of wines on the wine list, prices around $20+ a glass. Would I go back, more than likely not.

Welcome back JSH! Sirloin perfectly cooked to medium rare, tasty truffle fries and creamed spinach. Not sure about the mushrooms. Overall very nice for a work lunch.

Service was impeccable. Food was incredible.... it's a must try for a gathering or a date night! Will definitely be returning!

  • 5/5 Ali A. 1 year ago on Google
Wonderful restaurant that knows a thing about their steaks. From rib eyes to wagyu, JSH know how to cook an amazing steak and simplistic presentation putting the full focus on the main aspect of the meal. We were sitting upstairs in a dimly lit room with a great atmosphere. Only thing that was a damper on the mood was a server dumping utensils into the caddy as hard as he could. I highly recommend it to anyone keen for a well cooked steak.

One of the best steaks houses in Auckland. In addition, the oysters, the beef tartare, the raw fish, Alaskan King Crab, the best truffle Mac n Cheese...a fantastic dining experience!!

Worth a visit! Between two people we ordered two steaks, three sides and one dessert. We were very full and satisfied. The service was attentive and the food was served timely.
