Have been hearing lots about this place, this is my first time actually eating here. Order some typical yamchar dimsum, honestly, not very impressive. I think the biggest advantage is the location so they have very good market demand during weekdays. Don't get me wrong, tastes good, just not impressed to me that's all.

We had lunch in this restaurant with friends. The waiter with a pony tail was very unfriendly, and ignored us when calling service. The young waitress was a lot nicer. We had an awful soup and we ended up being charged $76 for one bowl of soup without being informed! The pony tail waiter calculated 8*$9.5 for one big bowl soup. It was ridiculous! At the end, he refunded us half the price but it was still too expensive for a single serving of soup. Do not go to this restaurant. They have very bad service and charge you wrong. Also he was very rude when we were against the charge.

Dragon boat’s yumchar was pretty average compared to other places. Got really disappointed after my first visit and thought gave it another try this time. Although the taste improved just a bit, it’s still the worst pineapple bun, BBQ pork pastries that I’ve ever had... not gonna come again for their dim sum.

Possibly one of the very few places open on Christmas Day. Typical Chinese joint with overworked and angry workers who couldn’t seem to care less about service. However, they do their job and that’s all. It took them 5 mins to notice our presence and another 10 mins to order. The 15% extra charge was clearly stated at the entrance which we have no objections. Had the venison ginger and spring onion (it was okay but lack of ginger), sweet sour pork (delicious crunchy pork but tad bit too sweet), veggie which was just greens anyway, sour spicy soup. It was more of the comfort food than anything else... I was super thirsty though after dinner. Drank so much water so I suspect the MSG and sugar used is really, really high. For that, I can’t rate them more than 3 (including the average service).

Tasty food but very expensive. Half a roast duck is $44 , it consisted of 10 small pieces.. total rip off

My FIRST EVER bad review. I was hungry and cold on this rainy day and ordered a congee which supposed to be warm and comforting. Unfortunately the congee was extremely SALTY and I couldn't even finish one spoon of it. I asked for some plain congee to dilute the saltiness and they could only offer hot water. Still too salty after adding water so I gave up. It's salty to the point that it's getting bitter. Cost me $11 for a very small bowl of congee which I couldn't eat at all. Very disappointed.

I have been coming to this place so many years. The owner is very honest and friendly. Especially the food is sensational. You will be amazed how fast the service is. I would recommend all to my relatives and friends.

This restaurant was one of the few that were open late on Elliot Street which was convenient. The waiter was very attentive and the food was pretty good but lacked flavour. There were a few vegetarian options on the menu but vegan ones weren’t labeled clearly. One thing that was not ideal is that we were charged an extra $2.50 for rice that would have normally come with a Lo Han Jai (monk’s dish) at other restaurants. The price is also a bit too steep for a restaurant of this quality. Though the venue is quite nice the portion sizes and quality of food served does not quite match the high end dining prices. Actually the first thing I noticed was that this restaurant serves shark fin and the live lobster tank was at the front of the restaurant so right off the bat I was a little bit repelled. I didn’t ask the staff about these dishes so I can’t comment further on how ethically these were sourced. Normally I wouldn’t give 4 stars but all things considered this is the most accurate rating I can give.

Overall the food is very good - spring rolls were crunchy and not too oily, the roast duck is flavorsome but had too much skin & bones compared to meat, the bbq pork buns could be of better quality, and the mushroom rice rolls were mainly carrots which was disappointing. Was very impressed with their extensive opening hours, relaxed & clean restaurant, good customer service and didn't have to wait long at all for food to arrive, so worth coming back to in the future :)

Lady working from the food court section probably needs a holiday. Quick to correct me when all I asked was, "can I dine in the restaurant?." She said, "No. You can't take food from food court in there." ?? Then took offense when I told her, "I know that." Anyhoo, siumai was okay. A bit rubbery from sitting too long, including the prawn and coriander dumplings. Pork ribs in blackbean sauce was okay. Dim sum not as flavorful as the ones I've tasted around the South Auckland area.

Had yum char dine inside the restaurant. Ordered chicken feet, beef rice roll and pork millennial egg congee + tea. Food is authentic and great taste how ever on the expensive side. My lunch came to around $35. When I walked past the food court side where they also sell dim sum the price seemed a little cheaper. Would only recommend if you craving yum cha and your wallet is happy!

We ducked into this restaurant after the restaurant that we planned to dine at was closed. However, the experience was just fine, the food was tasty and healthful, and it filled a perfect niche at the end of a full day of touring Auckland. This place can handle large groups, but the two of us felt just fine as the large space swallows up noise. The service was excellent, the food arrived hot and quickly, and we departed knowing that The Dragon Boat has fulfilled our expectations.

In central CBD great Chinese restaurant. It's great that Dragon boat survived COVID. Dragon continues with fine food, authentic taste , good range of yum cha , very good service.

The restaurant was just across the street from our hotel. We weren't supposed to have lunch there but we saw that they served dim sum and we wanted to try it. Have eaten better dim sum in Auckland. Prawn dumpling, jellyfish salad and Roast duck were delicious. On the other hand fried crab dumpling and roast porc were a bit dry. Depending on who brought our food, some of the waiters/waitress were really friendly, welcoming and tried to make you enjoy your food and some couldn't be bothered.

The service was average. It seemed like the young waitresses were under immense pressure. The food was good, nothing over the top. Spring rolls were big servings that was a surprise.

We ordered the peking duck wraps but not best. The wrap was uncooked and with a different taste, also their duck skin was not crunchy and it was cold. The rest of their dish was okay. We went here for dinner but the first time we went here for lunch, their dumplings was good. Price is reasonable.

Amazing food, the dim sims are amazing like I’ve never had before. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Nice and clean, highly recommend, have been eating in or getting takeaways for the last 20 years, definitely a hidden gem. The yum cha is also very good, during the day.

Ordered it from the food court section. Apparently the restaurant has dine in option (more expensive I presume) and the cheaper version in food court. They are adjoining. However I believe they come from same kitchen. We were utterly disappointed with the food. Paid almost $20 per plate of roast duck rice , roast chicken rice for dog food lookalike. Wilted vege, dry meat and served on a paper plate. Very unappetizing. Portion were big but we literally only ate few scoops and gave up. Worst Chinese food I've had in the past decade.

We have just had an amazing meal of sweet and sour pork and a combination of fried rice. The food was excellent and fresh. Highly recommend. Great service and nice wines. Thank you Sandra Lamb Nelson

You have to order yum cha dishes as opposed to picking ones you like when dishes are brought to your table. Staff are friendly. The food were OK, not excellent.

Enjoy traditional Chinese cuisine. Too bad some vegetables are not available in NZ. (e.g. capsicum is used instead of bell peppers). Up to 10 people can dine at a round table. It is more enjoyable than a regular square table because you can talk while seeing each other's faces and talk together as one group.

I have tasted and sampled food from various countries in Auckland but this one caught my attention, as it is considered one of the best Chinese eatery in the city. Located in the heart of CBD, this one I went is an extension to the fine dining restaurant tucked behind this food court facing joint. The mini joint is haven for someone looking for quick lunch and authentic taste of China. My review of the place: Oh boy! I am happy I made the right decision, the food was scrumptious 😋 and affordable( cuz it is part of the food court). I have changed my mind with regards to Chinese food (the ones I ate in Mumbai, India is Indian Chinese which caters to the Indian palate). If this is what Chinese food taste like, my next dream destination is Shanghai! (IF we overcome the pandemic ;) PS: The lady who serves there is absolutely courteous and knows the food business!

Outstanding Restaurant! We have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. We love this restaurant so much. The food is consistently delicious! We are treated like members of the family! The staff and owners greet us by name, the staff rarely change, they remember what we like on the menu. The best spicy Szechuan style salt and pepper chili dishes: squid, prawns and tofu, and mixed Chinese vegetable dishes. Feeds vegans and meat eaters alike. Great for little kids, families and fussy eaters! Converted our brother who was little Macdonalds Kid at the time to a Chinese Foodie! Highly recommended! A+

Service was okay. I find it expensive and servings was small. But the taste especially the beef pepper was really nice.
