Shepherds
Park
is
on
the
Northshore
region
of
Auckland
in
Beach
Haven
and
is
named
after
the
Shepherd
family
who
farmed
there
for
several
generations.
This
large
park
consists
of
a
native
bush,
bike
riding
tracks
and
sports
facilities
such
as
tennis
courts.
It
provides
multiple
recreation
facilities
including
tramping,
walking,
fitness
equipment,
learn
to
ride
bike
trail,
sports
fields
and
facilities
for
football,
futsal,
squash
and
tennis.
The
park
is
home
to
the
Birkenhead
United
AFC,
Beach
Haven
Bowling
Club,
Beach
Haven
Tennis
Club
and
Shepherds
Park
Squash
Club.
There
are
occasional
campaigns
in
the
bush
where
locals
come
together
for
native
re-generation,
planting
and
cleaning
programmes
on
a
voluntary
basis.
There
are
also
structured
environmental
programmes
for
kids
and
adults
which
take
place
frequently
at
the
park.
A
large
playground,
toilets,
a
barbecue,
picnic
tables
and
seats,
and
a
great
network
of
paths
are
inside
the
park.
Follow
Shepherds
Park
Path
for
a
short
run
under
30
mins
or
bike
ride
around
the
park.
There's
a
short
'learn
to
ride'
path
that
loops
around
the
playground.
It's
ideal
for
kids
developing
their
confidence
on
bikes
or
scooters.
