Steady and steep walk to the summit. The view is exquisite. Worth the 2 hours up and down. Not much info in the middle of the walk,.... but keep going!

Great lookout! We went on a weekday and there was no one at the Donald McLean carpark or where we parked (Karamatura carpark) and also no one on the lookout itself. If the sky is clear, you can even see Auckland and the sky tower far away which gives a "lost in the clouds" kind of vibe to the city. But that doesn't top up the view of the sea and mountains surrounding. It's a 15min walk from the carpark or if you start at Karamatura carpark, it's a hike of 1.5-2h with a lot of stairs (500+) but under the trees (don't do that if you have a heart condition, it's a lot of cardio).

I climbed to the lookout from Huia / Karamatura fall and trail. This is a challenging hike with a trail that climbs up to the crest of the mountains straight forward and direct with stairs as in Asia. Height is near 500 m. Once you arrive at the crest, it is all done. The hike is much easier and worth the difficult climb. I put only a 4 stars. It is not as peaceful as the place deserves. It was not crowded but the few NZ I passed by were talking loudly and even had music with them. It was like being in China, where they also speak loudly when hiking.

Stunning views, plenty of car parks at the bottom. The walk up to the lookout takes about 10 minutes only and it is not very steep.

Our walk started from the bottom of the mountain (wharf carperk) its a 1.5hr return, easy to moderate walk. Mountain top offers 2 lookout platforms.

Easy walk. Even though the signs at the entrance of the carpark says 20 minutes. But it actually takes less. My 3-year-old boy walks all the way up and runs all the way down. Amazing view at the look out.

Amazing place! Fantastic views! Hills, trees, valleys, sea and unsealed road for short distance. Short distance to walk and climb but access is really nice. People who love greenery must visit.

Absolutely stunning walk and track! Soo worth it. There will be lots of steps but very doable. It was a good mix of going up then going down. I didn't find it very challenging. It looked dreadful but it was sooo sooo beautiful and totally worth it. Would definitely do this walk again. Take caution on your way up and down as the road turns into gravel road. Slow down and be considerate of other cars.

Short, steep but nice walk up to summit view point. Great views if a clear day. Can see the city, beautiful Waitakere ranges and Manukau Harbour Lighthouse. There are two view points at the top.

Outstanding view, not too much of a hike.

Started at the Donald McLean Lookout car park. It's a nice easy walk to the summit. The sign says 20 minutes, but definitely doesn't take that long to get there.

Just a few minutes walk from the carpark to the summit and there are two Lookout platforms. One looking into Manukau Harbor where you can see the city and airport, and the other looking out to Whatipu and the sea.

The walk and track is worth the try. It's my 3rd time hiking and this will be the memorable one because I was able to finish and reach the summit of Mt. Donald Mclean. I was fascinated by the scenery and the trails.

Great walk and really enjoy it. Have done Karamatura car park to Donald McLean a couple times. Decent length (and stairs!) but a great combo. Great view too

👍👍 Some of the best falls in Auckland with a short 5 min walk from the beach carpark (parking is very limited) just some helpful notes are that the road to the Falls are very narrow and you will have to stop and allow cars to pass in places.
