We were recommended Terry Blacks BBQ for our visit to Austin and it did not disappoint! When we went, it was a relatively early weekday dinner so the line wasn’t too long, though my cousin said at its peak the line extends out the door. We ordered sides first and then proceeded to the meats, which are sold by the pound. Indoor seating was filled so we headed outdoors and it was pretty comfortable despite the summer heat. The brisket and beef ribs were very tender, seasoned well with a rich, hearty flavor. Sausage was flavorful as well. As for sides, the mac and cheese tasted good. Cornbread was alright, didn’t stand out. Bread and pickles came complimentary with the meal, and the staff was very generous with getting them for us. The bread was especially essential, as the food—especially the green beans and meats—could taste a bit too salty by themselves. Overall, the price was on the higher side, but nonetheless worth the experience.

Super solid BBQ experience! We came on a Friday morning and got in at 11ish without too much of a line and got our food super quick. Good: Fun experience going through the ordering and so much food! Portions are huge for the price you pay. We got 1 lbs of both the pork ribs and the brisket - I liked the pork ribs more since they had a lot of flavor but also both were good and they even give you complimentary bread to soak up some of the flavor. I also really liked the side dishes - my fave were probably the creamed corn and the mac and cheese - just overall already so solid dishes. The cornbread muffin was good too, but it crumbled super easily so it was hard to eat. The seating area is huge so no problem in finding a place to sit. The staff was also really nice. Bad: Just really noisy place so you can't hear people too well over all the chatter. Overall super fun place and will definitely come back! Loved how much the experience was made efficient and the lines went by so quick.

Lived up to all the hype!! Expect a line, but it moves quickly and is definitely worth the wait. Once inside, you move through the line cafeteria style. First you order your sides, then you will order your meats and drinks. Everything we ordered was delicious but our favorites were the brisket and the beef rib. I have never had BBQ so tender it will melt in your mouth. It isn't cheap but it is worth the cost. My husband wants to fly back to Texas just to eat at Terry Black's again it was that good!!

It was a delicious and great experience. The employees were kind, attentive to make sure you received everything you want. I ordered 1/2 pound of brisket, 1/2 pound of sausage (one link), 5 oz of Mac and cheese, and 5 oz of cream corn. You could also ask for pickels, onions, and bread as you walked up to ask for sides. We were lucky enough to get to the restaurant when it wasn't too busy allowing us to pass through the line rather quickly. I would definitely visit again for more of that brisket, sausage, and Mac and cheese.

This is a fun experience and probably my favorite meal of the whole trip. Take your time to really read through the menus and signs in the restaurant before you go up to order. The price is determined by the weight of the meat. You start by picking up your sites first and these are a flat rate based on size pint quart etc. I recommend not skipping the macaroni it was excellent. We started with a brisket and I added a jalapeno cheddar sausage and was not disappointed. My colleague had the rib it was massive but so good. We all upgraded our sides to a quart and we're able to share the sides with each other that would be one recommendation.

Best BBQ I’ve ever had, period. We were fortunate to get there when the line was relatively short on the Monday following Formula 1 weekend at about 11:30. Staff kept the line moving and we grabbed a few nice helpings of sides, brisket and pork ribs. The food was so good, pork fell off the bone and the brisket could be pulled about with your fork, Mac and cheese and potato salad were also outstanding. Really cool place to eat in general with great seating both indoors and outdoors. Next to the restaurant hey have the outdoor smoke pit visible for your viewing delight. Happy we stopped by this time and looking forward to going back. Last picture is the line that formed at about 12:30 during the lunch hour, mix of Formula 1 fans and locals that extended around the BBQ pits and out to the street, get their early!

Hey, listen. Are you listening?! This place is so so SO good! I was just here, minding my own business, visiting Austin for something else, when this place came into my life. I saw the reviews and knew in my heart that I needed to try it out. Like many of the reviews mentioned, parking is a little difficult. The line looks long and wraps around the side of the building but it moves pretty quickly. We waited about 30 minutes total, and let me just say that it was worth it! I tried the brisket, turkey, and a ton of sides. People...I felt the barbecue spirit enter my body. I almost cried in front of everyone. I felt the tender mercy of smokiness bless my soul. It was incredible. I would definitely come back and recommend this place to anyone who appreciates good solid BBQ. It helps to know what you want ahead of time (the line moves fast), and it can be a little pricey (depending on how much food you get) but the experience is great and the food is amazing!

The best BBQ ever! I was told to try Terry Blacks BBQ while visiting Austin Texas and boy they do not disappoint!! You wait in line, pick your sides ,then your meat, check out and chow down! It was a very cozy & clean environment and the staff was really nice. I definitely recommend the brisket and Mac n’ cheese paired with a cold local brewed beer.

Overall the food was good. If you are expecting to be overwhelmed with the strong smell of delicious smoke that makes your mouth water as soon as you open the door... this isn't the place. The brisket was pretty salty. The meat was super tender and had a good flavor. It wasn't very sweet. The pork ribs were sweet. Almost too sweet. Not a lot of smoke flavor, so I was a little disappointed in that. On to the sides! The green beans were delicious! They have an amazing garlic flavor and were perfectly cooked. The Mac and cheese was good, not thick, but the sauce was tasty. The coleslaw was pretty typical, not too sweet nor too much sauce. The Pinto Beans had a good flavor, too. If I'm being honest, the price was too steep for what I'm looking for. It is worth going for the experience, but I wasn't blown away by the food at all. It was very crowded and they could use door monitors. Expect a long line! But don't worry, there are two stations to buy drinks while you wait. Check it out and see what you think.

Stopped by for lunch and grabbed it to go. The line went by pretty quick and ordering was easy. If you are familiar with Texas bbq, then the look and feel of Black's is right on point. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor patio seating and even then this location always seems busy. Normally I'll see a line out the door. I tried the brisket sandwich and it was great. My only complaint was that it seemed greasier compared to other places. I'll definitely recommend it to my family and friends

On vacation and this BBQ place came highly recommended. I'm very happy I went because this had to be some of the best BBQ I have ever had. They were very friendly and helpful, provided me with suggestions and guidance on what I should try and how to order. I have never had sweet tea and it was great. I had the sausage, pork ribs, brisket, corn bread and beans. Everything was absolutely delicious! My only complaint would be that the bbq sauce labels are not on the bottles, as someone who is color blind I had to ask someone from another table for help as I was not able to match the card to the bottles. (Not a big deal though) They provided me with a tour of the smokers and also explained how everything is cooked. I would strongly recommend this place.

Best barbecue experience in downtown Austin. It is high quality meats and sides at a reasonable price and quick service times. I went on a Sunday midday, and it only took about 15 minutes to get the food! Sides are excellent, especially the cream corn, and the ribs and brisket are great. Lots of seating, would highly recommend dining in.

True Texas BBQ. Worth the price. Great staff and unbelievable brisket! Best slaw I have ever had. Might be the best ribs I have ever had. The pit master gave me a tour of the pits which was interesting. These folks don’t hide their pits, they are proud of what the make and will show you what they are cooking. Just all around great Texas BBQ. You won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely amazing BBQ. The brisket was borderline perfect, I've only had better once in my life. As for the pork ribs? They might actually BE the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, peppery, delicious. Turkey was also great. The potato salad was much better than I usually get at BBQ places, so that was a nice surprise. Heavily recommend the peach cobbler, as well. The line was long but moved hilariously fast.

Hands down BEST brisket I’ve ever had and I have tried several BBQ spots… all of their meat is tender, rich in flavor, and tastes fresh, also their seasoning and bbq sauces are amazing. Plus, I love the fact that you get the food right away… you order, they prepare and serve you on the spot. Staff is super friendly.

Best bbq I've ever had! Efficient service, great sides, fantastic meats. Smoked perfectly, not too smokey, and a fantastic flavor in the rub. I got the green beans, Mac and cheese, and corn bread, as well as the lean and regular brisket, plus a HUGE beef rib. The regular brisket was the star for sure, but everything was good and the rib was falling off the bone tender. The sides were delicious, and the Mac and cheese even tasted good the next day when I reheated it. Only nitpicks I have are the salt levels are pretty high overall, but manageable. Cornbread was on the sweet side.

Delicious BBQ served cafeteria style. You select your sides (single, pint, family sizes) and then your meats by the pound. I had the Mac and cheese, typical BBQ Mac and cheese, Pinto beans which were a little too salty but still good, and peach cobbler. For meats, we had ribs which were so tender, brisket, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. Everything was delicious. My companion said the sweet tea was as good as mommas. Alcohol can be purchased here. Seating was plentiful, indoor and outdoor.

We came here because this is the number one Barbecue place all of Austin. I will say that the food was great, but be prepared for a long wait. Parking was also a nightmare because it’s a busy part of town. We ended up finding side street parking for free. The line to get in took about 30 to 40 minutes. I do love their menu and as you stand in a cafeteria type line, you can pick out how much meat you want. They charge you by weight but I just asked for four or five slices of the brisket and four pork ribs. We got macaroni and cheese, potato salad, cornbread, and the sausage. Definitely a great experience but to me, it’s the one of those things you only do once or whenever you have a visitor in town. Wouldn’t make it my regular barbecue place because it’s really expensive and a bit of a hassle, but definitely a must do experience. It’s pricy FYI: For two small sides of Mac and cheese, one small potato salad, one cornbread, 4 slices of brisket and 4 pieces of pork ribs was $97 before tip. You can see the food in my photo. That was all we ordered.

The best Barbecue ever - it simply melts in your mouth. Extremely tender. I am a foodie and tried many bbq and my husband can cook very good brisket but this is far the best. The cafeteria style set up makes the line move fast It was not busy at 330 pm. But at 4 pm it became so busy. We had the brisket and pork rib. The beef rib looked good too. Go for a tour in the back and see how they cook it. The person was showing us how we cook it. It takes dedication and passion to cook the meats.

Hugely popular BBQ restaurant right in the heart of Austin. Be prepared for a line, but it moves quickly and while in line you can pick up a beer or soda to tide you over until you actually get the your food. As for the food the meats and sides are excellent. The meat comes right off the bone for both the pork and beef ribs. The sides are delicious too!!! Plenty of seating both inside and out. Definitely worth trying, if you’ve got a hankering for BBQ.

Wow it lived up to the hype! My colleagues and I were on a work trip and decided to go. The line was long but worth the wait. It moved at a great pace. The food was amazing! The brisket was so soft and flavorful. The sausage and ribs were my fave! And the sauces were a great complement The sides - the Mexican rice and potato salad took it for me! Nice place to chill after work I would say and price point reflects the quality

Amazing BBQ and sides. Only disappointing part was not having enough appetite to try everything. The macaroni and cheese was amazing. Beef rib amazing. Brisket amazing. Banana pudding amazing. Sausage amazing. All the other meat looked great too and we will have to get back here again soon to try it all. It’s a busy place but very well organized and moves fast.

Great BBQ. On a Saturday afternoon the line took 45 minutes. Good part of line is they were selling cold beer and water 3 different times. Once inside you order sides 1st then move on to selecting meats. We had brisket, pork ribs and beef ribs. This is an expensive restaurant for BBQ. All meats were top notch

When in Texas you have to go to a barbecue place. This place is a great traditional Texas barbecue restaurant. All the meats are delicious and so are the sides… My favorite was the coleslaw and the spicy sausage. Only downside is the parking lot is extremely small. We weren’t the only one circling for a spot. Once inside, it’s well worth it.

  • 4/5 Lena C. 5 months ago on Google
Brisket is delicious! Meat is tender, flavorful and juicy. We also ordered the rib, sausage, turkey, green beans and banana pudding, which were all good, but nothing worth waiting in the line for. We ordered ahead online, our food was ready when we arrived at the establishment. The tables are first come first serve. We chose to sit at a table outside to eat or meal. Inside would've been a better choice for seating because there were quite a few flies everywhere which made the experience a little annoying. All in all, a great experience. Staff was friendly, food was good and the crowd made it feel like the southern Texas BBQ experience that we came for.

Meat eaters heaven. Difficult to find parking, the lot is big but the popularity of this place means cars queue on the road to get in. I imagine sometimes there are arguments over parking. Once inside however, a great atmosphere. This is old time Texas foodie heaven, eating like you owned the ranch. The meat is smoked on site and cooked to perfection. Here you can cut your steak with the plastic knife provided, no problem

A very busy, but organized place. It is a real well oiled machine. Nice staff and awesome BBQ. Absolutely loved the Brisket which was moist, tender and full of flavor! The sides were terrific as well. Loved the Mac and Cheese as well as the Cole Slaw. They also had interesting Margheritas. This is a must stop for BBQ if you are visiting Austin!

We were just in town for a few hours go we placed a pickup order. Parking is a straight up nightmare. Cost us 10 to park nearby for 10 minutes. We take the short walk to get in a pretty long line but that's OK indicTes the food must be good.my boyfriend went ahead to see if there was a pickup window we were early but they got our order together real quick. The line moved fast and everyone was In a friendly mood so that was actually pleasant. The food was of course delicious but I don't think any rib,1 Rib, is worth 54 dollars. I also didn't like the way the cobbler was packaged. The BBQ sauce was spicy and amazing, loved it! Brisket was perfect. Definitely recommend the food but it will be pricey!
