Found this place on Google maps since we just moved to Austin. Wanted somewhere with good frozen margaritas and flavorful dishes...Curra's didn't disappoint! The Mole Enchiladas and Pollo Chipotle were fantastic. The Avocado Margaritas were something different but I enjoyed them a lot. Would definitely go back for the laid back atmosphere and friendly wait staff!

Solid local stalwart I love coming back to. They say variety is the spice of life in this case life had a wonderful spicy variety: I LOVE the salsa sampler. I legit was embarrassing and ate a whole cup of the queso with licorice, guacamole, and piccadillo in it. I had the zucchini soup but it wasn’t for me. That mole stole the show for me. I will be back again and again for the chill, and even still, neighborhood vibe. Especially going back for the mole. (The manager is phenomenal)

Last Monday evening my friend & I walked to Curra’s for dinner from my house. Which is only two blocks away. It was almost 8:00pm. I am 67 years old and have never been treated so horrible. We wanted to eat outside on the patiI. A woman in a red baseball hat said we could not wait at the bar where there were 4 sits open, because that was for people eating inside. She pointed rudely outside across from the patio & told us to go outside & wait at these high top tables. So, we went to the bar & ordered 2 margaritas. We went out to the tables and the chairs were chained to the tables. We were not able to sit down. l went back to the door & the nasty red hat women was standing there. I asked her if she could unlock the chairs. She came at me and said “No Go Wait Outside“. Then she threatened to throw us out. Even though we were already outside. A very sweet woman sitting at the patio outside, could not believe how bad we were being treated. She gave me her phone number and said to contact her if I needed a witness to this abuse. At that point 3 Mexican men walked in and sat at the bar. The nasty red hat woman must be family. No one would act like that if they didn’t feel confident they could get away with it. Unprofessional, Unbelievably Rude Horrible Experience! if you’re looking for Mexican food. Go Somewhere Else!!!!!

“Queso” was the consistency of soup. It was very hard to enjoy as most of it would drip off the tortilla chips. It had maybe a teaspoon of avocado and it was hard to find any of the ground beef that was also supposed to be in it. It probably would be acceptable if it wasn’t so runny. As you can see in the picture, any ingredient added to the top immediately fell under the cheese soup

Curra's has been an Austin classic in Interior (Traditional) Mexican food for almost 30 years. If you haven't been yet, it's time to go now. The service has always been top notch for us. The food and drinks are always exactly what we're craving. First, start your meal off with an Avocado Margarita (not pictured) and the Salsa Sampler. Their Avocado Margaritas have a fun consistency with bright marg flavor. The salsa sampler is a really great way to experiment with many of the flavors on their menu. For this meal, my boyfriend got the Enchiladas con Chile Colorado. The pork tips on top of the enchiladas were tender and the sauce they were smothered in had a bold, guajillo flavor. I got the Cancun Relleno. It's a big poblano stuffed with shrimp, pineapple, and peppers then covered with a chipotle cream sauce. I really liked that the poblano wasn't fried as it would have taken away from the rest of the ingredients. I would definitely get it again. Next time you're craving Mexican, change it up from good 'ol Tex-Mex and come give Curra's a try!

We've all got that one friend who really loves a particular restaurant, and that's why I finally got the opportunity to go to Curra's with her. So glad I did - they have most of your traditional Tex-Mex favorites, plus a few that may lean towards interior MX cuisine. I had the Pollo Pablano, and she had the Vegetarian soft Tacos. We both selected the Red Corn tortillas, with their classic thick-ish corn texture and so delicious. This is a fairly small restaurant and everyone is likely to greet you as you enter. I think our waiter may have been a bit new, and just a bit baked but he was a hoot and got the job done. The Queso and our entrées were all hot & delicious. The salsa is thick & chunky, with just the right amount of heat. Great place!

Came here because I was there prior before pandemic. Brought my wife and wanted to have her enjoy. Instead I felt nickel and dimed, we ordered chilaquiles mine red and hers green. After waiting forever for water, coffee came without sugar and asked 3 people for sugar, none of this was a big deal. She asked for her meal without cheese and it had cheese and needed fixed. The meal was so dry we asked for more sauce to add and explained it was dry, they charged us for each sauce. For 2 coffee and 2 chilaquiles it was a total of $48 including 18% tip. Never again, there are much nicer places In a better budget range.

We're local in the neighborhood since 2019 and have always loved going to Curra's; this colorful, south Austin staple is a gem. My review is simply some feedback to the restaurant about our experience there yesterday. It seems like after their big refurbishment this year, a couple of things might have changed? The bar menu doesn't have any prices listed on them. I can understand posting a bar menu online without the prices, but when you're already sitting at the bar, I think it's better for a casual, family-style restaurant to go ahead and share the prices with their customers. We had ordered 2 regular frozen lime margaritas and our waitress kindly suggested that we upgrade to the special margaritas which we took her advice and ordered. They were delicious. We ordered a 3rd margarita to share and chips and salsa. When she told us the total at the end however, we were both shocked...$45 for 3 drinks and chips/salsa only! Turns out each drink was $13 and chips/salsa was $3. My feedback that is that the drink prices seemed steep for a family-owned, family-style restaurant. While wonderful, the margaritas glasses are not big, especially for $13. I probably would feel better about this if there was more transparency from the start! I can understand why a restaurant wants to charge for chips & salsa to cover some of its costs, but as a born and bred Texan, I guess being charged for a TexMex staple feels a little nickel & dimed. We will continue to support Curra's going forward but hoping to see more transparency on the menus.

Kristina is THE BEST bartender we've ever had at a restaurant!! Friendly, attentive, outgoing and personable. She recommended the Jalapeno Cucumber marg and it was the best margarita we've ever had. And as always, the food was delicious 😋

I have heard about this place for years. My niece and I went last night. The food was amazing, and the margaritas were delicious! Due to the pandemic, they have become very short staffed so there was only one waitress for the whole place! She was awesome! I tipped her very generously because she deserved it. I highly recommend it!

Great place and great service. The lady that bar tenders is a pro.! She made me a delicious cocktail called "El madilon" - highly recommended

The food and drinks where so good! I got the Enchiladas con Chile Colorado and an a avocado margarita. The enchiladas where cheese covered in a unspicy guajillo & chipotle sauce. It was so tasty! The margarita was such a unique experience, in that it was really smooth, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

They have great avocado margaritas! Mole enchiladas were not amazing but my caldo Tlalpeno was AMaZIng, my boyfriend doesn’t usually eat soup but ate all of mine. I’ve been for lunch and dinner times. Most of their tacos are good. They entrees/plates are large and filling. Everyone who works here is really friendly and attentive. They are super busy weekends !

First time to try. Met family for breakfast. Service was spot on what you want from your waitress. Coffee was yummy. Wait was minimal and food was fresh and hot. I didn't get to take photos of everything we ordered because we couldn't wait to try it all. Had a great time because we had so much great food and we not rushed out by staff. I recommend this place if you are looking for good Mexican food with an interesting twist. Try it!

This restaurant is a gem! Their avocado margaritas are simply awesome, such a delightful twist on a classic. The bartender was super sweet and ready to give recommendations for dinner and around town. We really appreciated getting to chat. She was busy but ready to answer all our questions. This is a must-visit spot for unique drinks and a great atmosphere

Absolutely fantastic place, the interior was well decorated and super clean - service was great and the food was definitely on point! We got in right away and the service was fast. Super reasonable pricing as well, a definite recommendation if you’re anywhere near there, and looking for some authentic Mexican cuisine.

Best tamales ever. Not kidding, not trying to gas them up. My favorite was the veggie, but the chicken was also out of this world. Service was awesome. Our server clearly knew how to manage multiple tables and kept an eye on us.

Seated quickly, decent parking. Ordered a mango margarita which was pretty terrible..settled for a soft drink instead. Salsa and chips were pretty good. Queso was too. Ordered the Chile Colorado which was very tasty. My friend ordered what I think was the Curras Beef Tips. Both dishes tasted nice and flavorful. I wasn't impressed with the chocolate cake; beautiful presentation but, was devoid of flavor and pretty dry. Service wasn't very good. Our waitress was MIA a good portion of our visit.

I am so impressed with this place. I absolutely love the decor. The service was excellent from Samantha. She was the best server I've had in years. Julie was the manager on duty. Free parking. Food is super delicious. They're known for their avocado 🥑 margarita with tejin rim. They even let you sample it in case you don't like it. The murals are gorgeous. There's outdoor seating. I had 4 tamales. They let you choose from sweet, chicken, pork or beans. It came with a big scoop of rice. I picked chicken and beans. It came with salsa. It came on a beautiful platter. This is not tex mex. It is a different region such as michoacan. Highly recommended!

Had a margarita and beef tip entree for about $33 with tip. Both were fine. Nice atmosphere. Will come back and try tacos and see if I up the rating.

My guest and I did not feel welcomed. I asked the bartender people for assistance and rudely told me it wasn't their job to sit me, even tough there were 3 of them just chatting. However the food was average. Definitely never coming back.

The food was great! We got the avocado margaritas - they're delicious! The only thing we didn't enjoy was the price discrepancy. Apparently we were looking at a pre pandemic menu and the price of an entree had increased by $9, which is a huge amount.

Decided to try this out for the first time because I saw it was one of the best Mexican food restaurants in Austin to try out. I walked in and I was greeted after about a minute- it wasn't too busy. Then I sat down and told the lady what I wanted to drink. She wasn't very quick to get the drink which was an orange Juice. When I got the drink I noticed that it had a little bit of alcohol taste in it. So I asked for a water with lemon and she brought me a lime instead.. at that point I just was really hungry and decided to just wait for my food which came very fast. It was mildly warm but not hot at all. It was pretty tasty though. Then I got the check and noticed that the price was more higher than I expected. After I asked for a receipt to be emailed to me I noticed that the price was $2 higher than what it said online. At that point I had already left the restaurant. I called it in and spoke with somebody who had a hard time understanding me at first nor did she not apologize for the inconvenience and said the overcharged amount was credited back.. I give this a two-star just because the food was tasty enough and got to me pretty fast

This place rocks! We come to Austin from Chicago once a year and stop here at least once each time. Love this place. Austin is full of Mexican food places, but this one is the best. Fast, delicious, and great service.

Quick service, authentic food, and the avocado margarita is so good 👍 it is a small place so parking can be a pain. But that's what you get with a hole in the wall restaurant that serves great home cooked food. If you are looking for something spacious with ample parking than go to a chain restaurant 😄

This place is heavenly! Seriously the best Mexican restaurant in Austin, heck, the state of Texas. It's affordable, authentic, and every dish is top notch! The salsa is literally addicting, margaritas are heaven, and the salsa verde chicken enchiladas are my favorite. The service is also incredible. Very friendly, and everyone seems to pitch in to get the place running smoothly. Always a great experience!
