Such a peaceful experience to roam around this magnificent forest. There are two hiking paths - one that takes you to the top for magnificent views and one called water way to see the lakes and steps with creaks. You can see magnificent redwoods and ancient eucalyptus trees .

Explore the national park botanical gardens and Buçaco Palace. The palace is now a hotel, so you can only see the interior if you are a checked in guest. Take a hike up to Cruz Alta (High Cross). The views are breathtaking.

such a magical place, lots of plants and waterfalls and trails for tracking. and the palace (which is a hotel now) also amazing. also a lot of spots for picnic, so you can take something with you and have a lunch break surrounded with exotic forest 🤌

Gorgeous palace in the middle of a forest near Luso. The main building itself is a hotel, and they said we could only enter with a reservation. We spent about an hour touring the grounds full of ancient foundations and gardens, although you could probably spend a full day exploring the scenic trails through the surrounding forest. 6€ to enter by car, or try to park outside and walk in for free.

Beautiful place, a must visit area if you are near by. The landscape and the surrounding areas are incredible. You can also appreciate some of the style used by the Portuguese artists during the monarchy days. This place is also being proposed to be one of the UNESCO world heritage site, so this also says it all.

Gorgeous forest walks of different duration and difficulty levels. Would recommend footware with good grip, especially in damp conditions. Make sure you get a map in a tourist centre. Paths and trails are marked well.

This palace is a hidden gem of Portugal. Lots of lovely shady paths to wander. The palace is spectacular. It has a basic cafe with toilets. The hotel is also there if you want something more fancy. There are interesting birds to see, for example a firecrest

I'm not that interested in viewing religious sites, but this place was super weird and cool! Beautiful gardens, and old monestary that has a lot of artwork for burials and dead people. I've never really seen a religious site quite like it! It's 6 euros to get into the park with a car, and 3 euros to go into the monetary! Totally worth it! You need to pay with cash, so come prepared! Also, the I got to ring to old church bells on top of the monestary, which was a unique experience!

So pretty! There are several different trails you can choose from. There were also parking and WCs throughout the trail too which was super convenient. Definitely worth exploring!

This forest and castle are gorgeous. The whole place looks like something out of a movie. Definitely a must see when in Portugal.

Visited on a very gloomy and rainy December day. Unfortunately, visibility was bad, footpaths were covered in water and wet fallen leaves, so we paid a full 6€ entrance (for 1 car, pedestrians pay less, bigger vehicles pay more) for only a couple hours visit, as it wasn't very enjoyable. It's a shame, as the forest looked thick and lush but we couldn't get to visit all iconic spots. However we glimpsed how quirky and interesting the architecture is: the ornate gothic/romantic building of the hotel is right at the back of a much simpler looking monastery and church, decorated with peculiar mosaics made of stones. Definitely worth a stop, especially as it's conveniently placed between Porto and Lisbon, making it a great detour on a road trip like we did.

We’ll worth the trip. The monastery is very interesting and the trails seem to be very popular. The highlight for me were the tiled scenes in the hotel. Do not miss those!

😐 Very informative museum but it’s outdated and could use a major revamp. Possibility to pay with card, new coat of paint on the walls, new mannequins, a couple projectors playing something to grab the interest of the patrons, redo the battlefield examples with new tools (3D printing, leds, stepper mo...
