Just an amazing museum with a wonderful collection. Essential spot to visit on your trip to Lebanon. Impressive collection and very nicely organized. Excellent gift shop as well selling a wonderful collection of things from Lebanon and Lebanese artisans. Note though it’s closing at 2pm these days (not 5pm) because of the power outages. It’s a shame though that the Ministry of Culture hasn’t raised the admission price, it’s only 5,000LL which is the equivalent right now of only 0.25 cents USD!! Keep it that price for Lebanese citizens, but it should be immediately increased for all others. Also there should be tour guides on-site always (you have to book them ahead). I would have gladly paid for a tour guide to take me around the museum as I’m sure many other tourists would as well.

Very interesting, definitely worth a visit but has mostly Greek and Roman findings and not Middle East ones. Ticket at 5 dollars I think and takes around 1,5 hours to go through it

This is a small museum, 3 floors of things found in Lebanon. The most interesting was the basement coffins and 3 mummies. The funeral jewelry and a tomb from Tyre that was moved. Our family enjoyed it, but we all felt warm at the end on a September day.

The National Museum of Beirut, located in Lebanon, stands as a cultural treasure showcasing the country's rich history. Established in 1937, it underwent extensive renovations after the Lebanese Civil War. The museum boasts an extensive collection of artifacts spanning prehistoric, Phoenician, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman periods. Exhibits include ancient sculptures, mosaics, ceramics, and the renowned Phoenician Gold. As a symbol of resilience, the museum serves to preserve Lebanon's cultural heritage, offering visitors a captivating journey through time. It's organized and affordable for Arab visitors, and the staff there were very polite. It was an excellent visit

The National Museum of Beirut is a captivating cultural treasure. It houses an extensive collection of Phoenician artifacts, providing an immersive journey through ancient history. The exhibits are well-curated, showcasing intricate pottery, sculptures, and jewelry, each piece a testament to Phoenician craftsmanship. The museum's architecture is awe-inspiring, complementing the historical significance of its contents. A visit here is a delightful blend of heritage and artistry, and it's a must for history enthusiasts. The National Museum of Beirut truly brings the Phoenician era to life.

It’s beautiful that they kept all these ancient artifacts even thousands of years BC. It gave me all the feels and I really felt like a part of history. The only downside is that they close by 2pm. If you’re into history then this is a must visit for you!

Maybe post your correct hours so tourists don’t spend $30 traveling across the city to see your old paper sign attached to the museum hours sign on the building. It’s not difficult to change your hours in Google. Give it a try. Note to travelers-they close at 2pm, NOT 5pm.

It's okay, the building is nice although it was leaking water because of rain. There is not a lot of variety: we know many civilizations were in Lebanon, but the museum only focuses on one or two. Potentially could be so much better.

A grand museum of discovery. The heroic deeds carried out to save and restore the museum and it's contents is a Hollywood thriller waiting to be made. The collection is downright jaw dropping. There are not just pieces from different eras but penultimate examples. The basement is a little tricky to find....The entrance is below the main grand stairwell and what a collection awaits you there, including the Phonecian script and the sarcophagi. The stunning Tyre tomb art is a lesson in mythology. Not a single piece is to be missed. Watch the film at the beginning and restore your hope in man kind. There was no charge the day I was there. The feeling was priceless.

Worth checking out. But note, you can’t get a guide at the door, you must book one in advance. Regretted not having one, since the artifacts are not explained well. But still happy we went. They have a new pricing scheme, where it is 40,000LL if you’re Lebanese/Syrian. 80,000LL if you’re visiting from another Arabic region. And 280,000LL if you’re from anywhere else.

Its history begins in 1930, construction was completed in 1937 but was inaugurated in 1942, 1975 to 1998 was closed due to the civil war with much damage during this period by the national guards. It reopened after major repairs in 1999. (Original) Αξιόλογα τα εκθέματα του μουσείου, μου άρεσαν ιδιαίτερα τα εκθέματα της Ελληνιστικής και Ρωμαϊκής εποχής. Arrived at Museum at 1pm, during the Museum visit the electricity turned off and then at 2pm get rudely asked to leave because the museum has to close even though their closing time is officially 5pm. Staff member outside the door smoking, disregard for peoples health who are entering the museum. Great museum horrible staff and service.

  • 2/5 A N. 2 years ago on Google
Two stars for the most interesting objects. Although there is almost none information on the objects. Read about the history before you get here because you can't just come and read about it. Also the staff is not friendly. We notified them about missing toilet papers and they refused to get more papertowels. Almost got the feeling as they just wanted us to leave. Overall unprofessional. Get here very early because there is no parking and the driving to the museum could take a lot of time because of traffic. If you are not a hard-core fan of history of lebanon you should not go. My family just went for the sake of knowing more about history and just "this stone is from Tyre, 1500" did not do anything for better understanding of the history....

Remarkable museum! Definitely a must see for all visitors to Beirut. It is spread over several floors and its souvenir shop located at the entrance is the best place to buy cards and souvenirs in all of Lebanon. It is worth the entrance fee is not high. The only thing missing is a cafe/bisto for such a nice place.
